‘An Occasion for Shame’: NY Times‘ Paul Krugman Attacks ’Fake Heroes’ Bush, Giuliani in Stunning 9/11 Blog Post

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman has taken the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks as an opportunity to slam former President George W. Bush and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani as “fake heroes” who “raced to cash in” on 9/11.

As America mourns and honors its murdered citizens, Krugman said the memory of 9/11 has become “an occasion for shame” and “the nation knows it.”

Below is Krugman’s piece, reproduced in full:

An Occasion for Shame: NY Times Paul Krugman Attacks Fake Heroes Bush, Giuliani in Stunning 9/11 Blog Post

Is it just me, or are the 9/11 commemorations oddly subdued?

Actually, I don’t think it’s me, and it’s not really that odd.

What happened after 9/11 — and I think even people on the right know this, whether they admit it or not — was deeply shameful. Te atrocity should have been a unifying event, but instead it became a wedge issue. Fake heroes like Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani, and, yes, George W. Bush raced to cash in on the horror. And then the attack was used to justify an unrelated war the neocons wanted to fight, for all the wrong reasons.

A lot of other people behaved badly. How many of our professional pundits — people who should have understood very well what was happening — took the easy way out, turning a blind eye to the corruption and lending their support to the hijacking of the atrocity?

The memory of 9/11 has been irrevocably poisoned; it has become an occasion for shame. And in its heart, the nation knows it.

I’m not going to allow comments on this post, for obvious reasons.

Krugman said he is not allowing comments on his post. The Blaze is. Also, be sure to read writer Tom Engelhardt’s 9/11 post in which he say‘s it’s time to “bag” 9/11 commemorative ceremonies and asks, “haven’t we had enough of ourselves?”

Bush did what had to be done. We were attacked and the attack had to be answered. But for the first time we were attacked not by a recognized country, but by a movement scattered among various Muslim countries and going by different names in different places, but with the same source and the same goal. That was what Bush responded to. He had to show every Muslim despot that they would not be allowed to be a part of that movement, even if only through passivity. The weapons of mass destruction thing was only a sideshow, created when the Democrats insisted on going to the UN. The only dog the UN had in the fight was WMD.

So many people, but especially the supeior intellect elites, have a stunning ability to forget. People seem to have ignorantly forgotten how we lived prior to 911. How it was a time when people didn’t even strap bombs to themselves on a regular basis to kill innocent people in the name of their God, let alone fly planes hijack planes with the intention of being a supposed martyr. These intellects have truly lost their mind and soul. These literal morons forget the way they think today is not the way they thought in 2001. It is they who have become the dividers, who refused to allow this instance to unite us. Do they want proof, look at the votes when we went to war, both wars. That was a bipartisan effort, both sides voting to go.
Ignorant hate filled pigs such as Krugman don’t deserve to claim their American citizenry in public. People such as this man know nothing about what it is to be on a team or to come together. No, they are still angry that they were the first dork to have their glasses smashed against their head in that evil game of dodge ball. They make an effort to break and divide everything they can because of the humiliation of never being picked, or being the last to be picked, to play a game of football as a kid. I am telling you, it is revenge of he nerds in America. These intellects have never grown up and become adults. Instead, they are still in the days angry because their underwear got ripped from the wedgie they were given. Grow up boy, be a m

Consider the source! I will contribute to a one way ticket to the socialist/communist country of Krugman’s choice, and I am sure there are alot more of us out there. The last thing Krugman is is a hero so I guess that is why he doesn’t recognize the traits. The intelligence of NYT‘s readers must be at rock bottom if he thinks ’because he says it the public will buy it’. I think not. He is a joke by anyone’s standards.

Journalist and academia have been editing this historical event since the day it occurred. If we don’t change the dialogue, in ten more years, we will be the deserving culprit of this atrocity.

“For me personally, the events aboard Flight 93, that went down in a field in Shanksville, PA, are the things from which we must take heart concerning 9/11. That airliner was full of ordinary Americans who did on their own the most outrageous thing: Rather than wait for the inevitable, they took actions directed not only at the chance of saving their own lives, but with the knowledge that whatever the outcome, they would surely save others. That moment of decision, in appraisal of their immediate situation, should be considered carefully by every American as this clash of civilizations continues. What are the choices? Shall we fight, or wait to be slaughtered? Shall we pretend that if only we’ll huddle quietly, we will be left alone and alive? Shall we recognize that we are now the front line in a war between two civilizations, and act in the name of ours?”

Remember people…this is the stance of the progressive liberals and it is also the stance of Islam. The ones who know Obama’s background, knows by his own admission in his self written books, that he was schooled in a Madrasah in Indonesia and if you look it up on Wiki..he attended the Saint Francis of Assisi , a Catholic School. He also sat in the pews of Reverend Wright who espoused America’s chickens have come home to roost regarding 9/11. Reverend Wright..associated with Lous Farraken.. leader of the Islamic Nation in the US. Rose Ellen also claims to have a Catholic background, have US citizenship, and devoutly stands with Islam, and also quotes Reverend Wrights assertion that America’s chickens have come home to roost. Rose Ellen has also revealed in “his” posts that we should continue to help the Arab nations take down their dictatorships “one at a time..via the Arab Spring” and also stands with the Palestinians against Israel and wants the former 1967 (or whatever) borders. Rose Ellen has a whole lot in common with Obama.

Reading the comments (Thank you Blaze! This one “obviously” deserves to be responded to), I think you all underestimate and overestimate Krugman both at the same time.
You underestimate his ego and arrogance: he KNOWS the history, but thinks he’s BIG enough of an opinion leader that he can sway many to IGNORING the most salient points of the 9/11 situation in contributing to the re-writing of history he’s trying to accomplish. Bush HIMSELF never claimed to be a hero, and neither did Giuliani! But they DID happen to be the ELECTED leaders right BEFORE the attack, and were therefore in charge of DOING something in response to it. I for one think the first responders were heroic, and that the leaders were merely admirable.
I’m glad the majority of Americans still remember the way 9/11 made them remember God, family, and country more than they had in the past. I’m glad the majority of Americans still believe a small band of Islamic extremists are to blame, not America herself. I’m glad the majority of Americans still remember all the good their country does, and hold their heads high in righteous pride at the thought of belonging to this great country, beacon of liberty as she still is.
Krugman, the shame is yours, hypocrite, using 9/11 for a ratings spike rather than for an honest honoring of those lost.

Sorry, forgot the overestimating: and actually I take it back–you all pretty well understand that Krugman’s got less clout than he thinks (should I keep up with the maggot meme?). Really, I just mean to say I think Americans understand what this is about even if Krugman is trying to make us forget. Conservatism is founded on correct principles, and is thus will prevail, and Krugman’s liberalism will come to nought, as long as we keep choosing not to forget who we are and what we stand for. Our side is ultimately more attractive too.

      1 Do not keep silent,

      Have opened against me;
They have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
3 They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,

6 Set a wicked man over him,
And let an £accuser stand at his right hand.
7 When he is judged, let him be found guilty,
And let his prayer become sin.
8 Let his days be few,
And let another take his office.
9 Let his children be fatherless,
      And his wife a widow.
      10 Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg;
Let them £seek their bread also from their desolate places.
11 Let the creditor seize all that he has,
And let strangers plunder his labor.
12 Let there be none to extend mercy to him,
Nor let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
13 Let his posterity be cut off,
And in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

      17 As he loved cursing, so let it come to him;
As he did not delight in blessing, so let it be far from him.
18 As he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment,

Krugman isn‘t allowing comments because he knows he’s wrong and because he knows this article further exposes him as the anti-American Socialist Culture of Death Elitist we already knew him to be. The events of that day 10 years ago required those in office in New York and in the federal government to show immediate courage, decisiveness and integrity. Even the majority of the most Left Wing partisans have acknowledged that Mayor Giuliani and his team in New York did everything humanly possible to deal with the horrendous situation. President Bush made sure that “those who knocked these towers down” really did hear from all of us, and soon. Krugman is a moral, intellectual and physical coward. God Bless the America and protect all those who uphold and defend her Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Semper Fi.

And the reason Krugman isn’t allowing replies, so he can “take his ball and go home” and cash in as well with the NYT. That makes him just as low as the people he wants to vilify. the only obvious reason he isn’t allowing those comments is because people of all parties disagree with this clueless wonder.

Screw you, Krugman, for taking 9/11 and making it a political statement. You are lower than anyone who has ever attacked this country. Go back to the rock you crawled out from under and come up with more ideas on how to sink this economy.

Having been a horse person since childhood I was taught early on that the best way to judge a horses stability was to look into their eyes. Over the decades I found that was absolutely true AND it applied to all other species as well. Especially our human counterparts. Krugman and Obama are both prime examples. Their eyes give away their lack of stability and reveal a very scary inward spirit. If it weren’t so damn unsettling it would be almost funny!!! NOT

The most frightening and maddening thing about this garbage is that it has co-opted real worship — yesterday in church our minister lumped the hijackers in with the almost three hundred people they killed when praying for those “aboard the planes” — absolutely no talk of it being sin or evil, or even forgiveness because they’d done it — it was as if the terrorists were just another set of victims in a natural disaster! And the congregation was supposed to affirm this “prayer” as if it were a legitimate prayer that all intelligent people would agree with!

Very true. Bush could have very easily been like Obama and blamed Clinton for what happen. OH yes, he could have pointed to great many mistake Clinton made. He could have even blamed Clinton for the many deaths of our troops in the Iraqi war because our equipment being so outdated do to Clinton’s huge military funding cuts. No, he never even hinted at this. That is because men of honor and integrity take responsible for what is before them so that they can lead. Unlike the intellects such as Obama and Krugman, who are so ashamed of themselves and have been living such a lie their entire lives, they feel guilty the second anything goes wrong rather it was their fault or not, and automatically are compelled to blame somebody else. It never seizes to amaze me the degree of anger and hate found inside of these people. It is like they are constantly angry because they feel they were dealt a bad hand life, when it is the exact opposite. Us on the right just plain accept we are not the prettiest or richest or have the biggest house, but know many others are not as well. Instead, we are grateful for what we have, knowing things can always be worse. These ignorant pigs can‘t see they have more than most and can’t appreciate what they do have, because it is not the best. They can never understand the best is subjective. They want so bad to be popular and powerful and will go to any length to get there. In the end, they will be all alone in a sea of selfish pigs.

So In my opinion I give the times two more years of sustainability and they will be history. It’s good for packing things to ship but nothing else.

If anything, for a while, the tragic events of 9/11 unified a country divided after a very contentious presidential election – I’d dare say that the attacks on 9/11 were a wake-up call to remind many Americans what our country stood for.

I saw a pretty united Senate & Congress when we declared war on terror, then when we invaded Iraq because of WMD threats we were still united, and even when we invaded Afghanistan to seek out the Taliban & Al Queda camps insurgents were coming from into Iraq we were united. It was when Jihn Kerry decided it was his turn to be President that 9/11 became a wedge issue…

@MARINE25 I am so sorry for the loss of your son. Bush was not my favorite either. I didn’t like the fact that he was helping the agenda of the NWO, by building the super highway to Mexico and Canada. He sold our ports to the Arabs, he kissed Islams behind and he wouldn’t let Israel have her head with the Muslims. Although the NWO slowed on his watch and he didn’t raise taxes or try to disarm America, he shouldn’t have started that war. he could have gone in with special forces and accomplished what needed to be done. Just because they didn’t find anything, doesn‘t mean it hadn’t been there. After all, he got on the news media and announced to the world that “he was thinking about going to war.” That’s not reasoning of a good commander in chief. Reagan never did anything like that..he took care of business and didn’t announce it to the world. The only country that I am for supporting financially and militarily is Israel and that is because God says to stand with her. Again.. I am sorry for your loss.

Sure. But the man has done NOTHING but protect this country and insure the protection of its citizens … with dignity, grace and poise. I have an incredible admiration for President and Mrs. Bush.

Its tough to take an article seriously from a “fake reporter” Krugman is a useless POS… as is the NYT…

I quite frankly wish it would financially weaken to the point where Conservative backers could come in and buy the entire paper out and retool it to become a fair and balanced paper – the readership would skyrocket overnight and the entire of the propaganda paper would be mean that people would actually get a newspaper filled with truth and not liberal lies.

Its people like this that make modern economics into a charade. Economics is a science (a real science, not like poly-sci), there are particular rules to the way an economy works, Krugman instead destroys this science by advocating politically motivated solutions with little evidence to support his conclusions. If the man had any sense of self-decency he would return his nobel prize, crawl into a cave and never show his face again.

Your argument that there is “no real difference” between libertarians and liberals today is completely absurd and unsupported. There is not a libertarian on this earth that would agree with anything that spews from this man’s mouth. everything he says is counter to the libertarian philosophy, and in fact, much closer to the Bush Greenspan approach to economics, which was VERY keynsian (and how did that work out? ) The fact is, Krugman says absurd things like this everyday but it is so over the average american’s head that it never makes headlines.

So, Yepimaconservative, sorry… but your not a real conservative, you probably support crony capitalists like paul ryan (who voted for TARP and the Bailouts) and Rick Perry (who supported Hillarycare and Al Gore). You obviously don’t understand the issues, the fact is neo-cons are much closer aligned with the liberals and Paul Krugman than libertarians are.

      Look it for yourself.

Based on claims by the US government, the 47-story modern steel-framed WTC-7 was brought down by office fires.

Shyam Sunder, the lead investigator at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) — a state-run organization — had said, “World Center 7 collapsed because of fire fueled by office furnishings.” http://www.presstv.ir/detail/197821.html
