Analysis in Jerusalem Post: Why Glenn Beck Is ‘Correct on the Middle East’

The Jerusalem Post has printed a bold op-ed by a distinguished Middle East analysis that may cause Beck critics to grit their teeth as they read it.
Barry Rubin is a long record in the region. He is director of the Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Center. He posts frequently as a columnist for PajamasMedia, and serves as editor of the Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA) Journal.
Rubin‘s analysis of Beck’s views was published in the Jerusalem Post — but best updated version online is on his own site RubinReports.
Here‘s how Rubin set’s up his analysis:
Having studied the Middle East professionally for 35 years and with a PhD in Middle East history, let me make it perfectly clear: Glenn Beck, who is holding several rallies in Israel this week, has a better grasp of Middle East politics than most Western experts, not to mention Western leaders.
Certainly, Beck makes silly mistakes on factual matters and details. Yet what’s important is that he comprehends the big picture. I don’t say this based on a superficial view or on his support for Israel. As part of the GLORIA Center’s project on understanding current American politics and debates I have monitored virtually every television and radio show Beck has done over the last two years. When people voice absurd and slanderous stereotypes about Beck, it turns out they haven’t actually listened to what he’s been saying.
Why has Beck gotten things right that so many others have missed or distorted? There are five key reasons: Common sense; courage; knowing the difference between right and wrong, willingness to learn, and readiness to admit when one has been wrong. These are virtues often lacking among those with more elegant reputations and impressive diplomas.
What has he gotten right?
Rubin then outlines ten key points. You can read the entire post here.
Rubin concludes:
Any criticism one can make of Beck regarding Middle East issues rather pales in comparison to all of the above points on which he is quite correct. But then, as Jews, and Israelis most of all, should know, to be falsely reviled and have one’s image smeared is not proof of being wrong or evil.

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 10:35amfrom the same newspaper:
Hawkish Likud activist tells ‘Post’ he objects to US Christian
broadcaster’s plan to hold Restoring Courage rally near Temple Mount.
American broadcaster Glenn Beck has faced criticism from left-wingers and Reform rabbis in the US and warnings from Arab MKs and Peace Now in Israel ahead of his Jerusalem mega
event set for Wednesday night at Jerusalem’s Southern Wall site.
But Beck has been welcomed warmly by the Israeli Right until Sunday, when hawkish Likud activist Moshe Feiglin denounced him in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.
Feiglin objected to the Christian broadcaster holding his Restoring Courage rally so close to Judaism’s holy site.
“Glenn Beck should do such an event in his court, not mine,”
Feiglin said. “Besides territorial sovereignty, there is also a concept of spiritual sovereignty. When he holds his event so close to the Temple Mount, he is supporting us physically but undermining us spiritually.”
Feiglin noted that Beck was purposely holding his event close to the site where, according to the New Testament, Jesus overturned the tables of the moneychangers where Jews on
pilgrimage to Jerusalem redeemed funds for sacrifices that
would be made in the Temple. He said this was problematic,
because the incident has been a source for anti-Semitism for
centuries.

Report Post »I’m not sure what point you are trying to make. Are you comparing one article against another? Do you really give more weight to the article you mention over the one written by Rubin? If so, you have got a lot of learning to do, my friend. The Rubin article is straight, hard facts. The article you keep bringing up has no facts within it. Just the authors prejudice. Posted on August 26, 2011 at 9:27amYes Sir, Glenn gave us all a history lesson on our country, our civil rights as Americans, and a renewed love for all people, that we stand together in the truth and defend her as our Founding Fathers gave their all for the sake of this country and our childrens’ lives. These men and women were standing on the Words of God,Jehovah, and our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Where are those that remember or were taught the history of our Great nation? Schools and higher learning(indoctranation in liberal bias) won’t teach the truth, that is written by the very people who were there, eye witnesses to preserve the truth, as Jesus, after the resurrection, was seen by over 500 most that were there at His death and knew Him. Beck has taught and put the truth on display and with evidence to back it all up,then said “Here is the truth, and each must decide for themselves what to do.Our children have been ‘dumb down by lies and distorted the truth to our kids and adults, and they will answer to God.We are blessed by Glenns stand to teach the truth and leave the rest to the ones who have the choice to deny or accept. One question we all must answer is “Who was this man Jesus, a liar,a lunatic or was He Lord and Savior?. Times running out!! Check out Matt 24. the 1st book in the New Testment. It‘s eternity we’re talking about. Those that bless Israel will be blessed and those that seek to divide Israel and Jerusalam are cursed. Its up to you now. God Bless/Shalom/A Christian Patriot

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 11:41amI have seen ten Presidents come and go in my lifetime. At the age of 11 I heard John F. Kennedy challenge citizens of the US with those famous words ” … ask what you can do for your country”. I have never felt the truth … the urgency in those words more than as I look at what we must do in November, 2012. Not since the election of Abraham Lincoln has there been a time in our nation’s history when choosing the next President will have such impact on the future of these dividing states and the world. Choose wisely, fellow Conservatives, because our choice for President and his chosen Vice-Presidential running mate must be strong and courageous enough to sustain our ideals for at least twelve and, hopefully, sixteen years. That is how important the 2012 elections will be … 12 to 16 sustained years of Conservative tough stances on fiscal responsibilities, additional (not lessened) support of our military and our true allies, restoration of our educational, medical and manufacturing institutions and absolutely, positively no compromising with the socialists, liberals, Marxist nor any radicalized religious factions any where on this earth.
Report Post »Learn about the candidates, question their intentions, vent them thoroughly and expose those from both aisles who strive to deceive us and lead us astray. Then choose wisely with the guidance of God. The future of Earth’s children are in our hands.

I’m not sure we are all that much mystified at the Administration over what they are doing. I firmly believe Obama and his cronies are purposefully running this country into the ground hoping for riots to start here like they are overseas. This way Obama can declare Martial Law and become the Dictator he always wanted to be.
Obama can’t stand England. Obama can’t stand Israel. Obama can’t stand The United States of America. His Muslim roots are kicking in, in my opinion.

It’s amazing and sad how much our news is filtered by the U.S. media! Where would we be if Glenn didn’t show us the truth!!!!! I don’t think I missed a show while he was at FOX over the past years! I must admit the hard turn worshiping Israel and saying that our fait is tied to theirs turn me off! The USA after the coming of the Messiah is where most of “The Chosen” who accept Jesus Christ live and the Israel of the bible is the Spiritual Israel and Jerusalem is the Heavenly Jerusalem!
