Anderson Cooper Has Frustrating Exchange With Nazi-Comparing Rep.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper became visibly frustrated last night while interviewing Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) about his comments comparing Republicans to a Nazi propagandist. Flummoxed, confused, and shocked might also sum up Cooper’s reaction.
In short, Cooper tried to explain to Cohen why his comments were unnecessary and over the line, and repeatedly tried to get Cohen to to see the hypocrisy of his words as Republicans are repeatedly ridiculed for theirs. But, alas, Cohen just could not, or would not, understand Cooper’s point. During the interview, you can almost imagine Cooper holding his head in his hands and rolling his eyes off camera.
It’s important to note, as Cooper does, that Cohen recently wrote an op-ed explaining “Reckless and hateful speech often has a terrible human cost.” Yet Cohen defends his comments by saying he was simply speaking “off the cuff.”
Mediate sums it up quite well:
Cohen again tried to make himself look better by saying Politifact (not him) that named the idea of a “government takeover of health care” as the lie of 2010. Cooper continued banging his head against the wall trying to get Cohen to realize what he was doing, but Cohen simply concluded, “I won’t say it again, but I was right.” Video of reason failing to get through to abject cluelessness, via CNN, below.

Report Post »TexasCommonSense
Posted on January 20, 2011 at 1:16pmTexas is a largely conservative state, and I am a conservative. Now, here’s some common sense for you.
Let’s start with the biggest lie. The Democrats saying it will lower the deficit. Do you really believe adding 30,000,000 more people to the healthcare, and increasing coverage for others, would not increase the deficit? Common Sense says “no”. The number coming out of the CBA saying otherwise are wrong. They can only score what was provided to them by the Democrats; garbage in, garbage out. It was also well documented the doc fix wasn’t included and savings were double counted. Then there are the thousands of new government employees and bureaucracies which will have to be created just to manage everything spelled out in the 2,000+ page bill. All of which will have to be paid for by either tax payer dollars or deficit spending. We recently increased our national debt by $1T in only seven months. That means we either raise taxes further, or increase this deficit spending to an even faster pace. Apparently cutting spending is out of the question or they would have done that in order to have paid for this monstrosity in the first place.
We already have Medicare, all of Medicare’s sub-parts, Medicaid, and CHIPS. How much more government healthcare are we expected to pay for with our taxes? By the way, the costs of the healthcare previously mentioned were greatly underestimated by the CBS. We currently spend more money on Medicare/Medicaid than we do Defense/Wars. $794.4B compared to $693.7B. http://usdebtclock.org/ We don’t need to spend even more.
They told this lie to everyone over and over again until enough people believed it and the representatives voted for it. That alone supports my above statement of the Democrats doing exactly what the Nazis did. Like the comparison or not, it’s true.
There’s also the lie about reducing healthcare costs. Mine, and everyone I know, has only increased and will continue to do so.
Don’t believe the lies; it will not lower the deficit!

Posted on January 20, 2011 at 12:00pmWe can leave the Nazi examples out of politics as long as we remember that Nazi’s and Fascists and Communists were the Progressives of their day, that they were all differing shades of Socialists, and that their policies of population control, selective genocide, abortion, state economic control, speech control and thought control are alive and well today in the modern Progressive movement. We can leave out the KKK examples too, as long as we remember that they were a powerful force in the Democrat party, because the Republican party was promoting integration and equality among the races. All of these are points Representative Cohen has clearly decided to forget and Anderson Cooper failed to point out.

Report Post »Well stated.
Now lets get to the point of rhetoric: Force the opposition to defend their tactics while tacitly accepting the presumed negetive motivation. You can present all of the defense you want of your tactics but you lose the argument.
An appropriate response to Cohen is: “If you wish to debate intellectually whether our ideas or yours will lead to better health care I am fully prepared for that. Otherwise, you can cede that debate and we can review all of the criticism you levelled at the left for their rhetoric in favor of Obamacare, against the Iraq war, against the welfare reforms of the 90′s etc. Okay, we’re done.”
By the way, kudos to Anderson Cooper. Maybe he has a sliver of character left. If he keeps this up he will be joining the Obama unemployment lines.

Posted on January 20, 2011 at 3:15pm“Reason is not automatic. Those who deny it cannot be conquered by it. Do not count on them. Leave them alone.” Ayn Rand
Ayn Rand delivered this lecture at the Ford Hall Forum in Boston in 1962
“We ask that the government undertake the obligation above all providing citizens with adequate opportunity for employment and earning a living”
“The activities of the individual must not be allowed to clash with the interests of the community, but must take place within its confines and be for the good of all. Therefore, we demand…an end to the power of the financial interest”
“We demand profit for sharing in big business.”
“We demand a broad extension of care for the aged.”
“We demand…the greatest possible consideration of small business in the purchases of the national, state, and municipal governments.”
“In order to make possible to every capable and industrious [citizen] the attainment of higher education and this the achievement of a post of leadership, the government must provide an all-around enlargement of our entire system of public education…We demand the education at government expense of gifted children of poor parents…”
“[We] combat the…materialistic spirit within and without us, and are convinced that a permanent recovery of our people and can only proceed from within on the foundation of
“The Common Good Before the Individual Good,”
Do you agree with this program and with its over-all intention and spirit? Would you be prepared to say that it is a fine, progressive, liberal program? Observe that all of its proposals are being advocated and most of them have been enacted into law in this country.
Ladies and gentlemen, these proposals are from the program of the National Socialist (Nazi) Party of Germany, adopted in Munich, on February 24, 1920.

The vast majority of progressives are anything but stupid regardless of how silly their arguments have become (in the face of the actual facts/truth). In their world image trumps truth, control the image (mesage) and you control the mob (or so the theroy goes). So, if a lib says something stupid, the assumption is always “well, we all know what he meant, so we’ll give him a pass”. If a conservative says anything at all, the assumption is always “we know what he really meant by that”, reading in a negative and hateful message that doesn’t exist simply because that is the template through which conservatives are viewed. Judge Victor Marrero said investigators must obtain court approval before ordering ISPs and phone companies to turn over confidential information without notifying customers, the AP reports.
Marrero said the Patriot Act still “offends fundamental constitutional principles,” even though Congress revised it in 2005 to allay concerns that it granted the FBI sweeping powers without a judge’s approval. The ACLU challenged the law and Marrero agreed, writing that it “reflects an attempt by Congress and the executive to infringe upon the judiciary’s designated role under the Constitution.”

Even when the demlibersocialcommies are caught in a lie with video and audio evidence they can still defend their actions. The DEUCHEPOCALYPSE is here and thriving!!!!

Posted on January 20, 2011 at 4:02pmI am proud to say that Cohen is not my representative though I live in Tennesse. But talk about the pot calling the kettle black!! Surprised to hear myself say this, but good job Anderson Cooper!

Posted on January 20, 2011 at 6:56pmListening to this guy makes me want to gas people and incinerate them, by the tens of thousands. Strangely, I feel helpless to supress these feelings, primarily toward registered Democrats in Tennessee. I have never had these feelings before listening to this man. This is the only political speaker I have paid any attention to.

Posted on January 20, 2011 at 10:29pmI just heard the whole interview, and Cooper is one smart, learned guy. I always thought CNN was ALMOST a respedctable, “we report, you decide” kind of news organization, but always leaned left, unlike MSDNC who are a straight up, propagandist machine. The fact that Ted Turner started this network always made me say “ahah”, but now, it seems their “talking heads” have gotten the memo to be fair and balanced.
Report Post »Good for them if this continues. We need more networks who are actually “jounalistically inclined”, and not just the big three ( sorry, CBS and ABC, you both are just epic fails) trying to push an agenda. But….i really don’t see fox “news” as politically charged when they report, but the do hire more right-thinking “pundit” types….that I agree with.

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 3:31amThis is great. I am sooooo happy the progressive initiated this hate speech war. They are the ones who are guilty of it. They always have been. Now in an attempt to score political points and to shut down conservative talk, they will be destroyed by friendly fire.
Report Post »Way to shoot yourselves in the foot libs.

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 3:40amI know we recently gave CNN grief for the “cross hair” apology. But CNN may very well become our ally in exposing Libs hypocracy.
Report Post »Because libs will continue to screw this up. It’s their M.O.
