Conservative website publisher and author Andrew Breitbart has died. He was 43.

“With a terrible feeling of pain and loss we announce the passing of Andrew Breitbart,” a statement on Breitbart’s BigJournalism.com said early Thursday. “Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles.”

“We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior,” the statement said.

Joel Pollak, editor in chief and in-house for Breitbart.com, confirmed the news to The Blaze in an email.

The Associated Press reported Breitbart was walking near his house in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles shortly after midnight when he collapsed.

Someone saw him fall and called paramedics, who tried to revive him, his father-in-law Orson Bean said. He was rushed to the emergency room at UCLA Medical Center where he died.

Breitbart had suffered heart problems a year earlier, Bean said, though he could not determine what happened.

“I don’t know what to say. It’s devastating,” he told The Associated Press.

Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office told the AP a cause of death was unknown and an autopsy would “more than likely” be conducted.

Breitbart is survived by his wife Susannah Bean Breitbart, 41, and four children.

Condolences immediately began pouring in on Twitter, a favorite social media tool of Breitbart’s.

Politicians, including some of the Republican candidates for president, weighed in as well.

“RIP ‘O Mighty Warrior!” Texas Gov. Rick Perry wrote on Twitter.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) wrote he was “stunned to hear about the passing of Andrew Breitbart” and offered his condolences to “his wife Susie, his children, and his friends.”

Mitt Romney wrote: “Ann and I are deeply saddened by the passing of @AndrewBreitbart: brilliant entrepreneur, fearless conservative, loving husband and father.”

Rick Santorum, hearing the news from reporters while on the campaign trail, called Breitbart’s death “a huge loss, in my opinion for our country and certainly for the conservative movement.”

Newt Gingrich called Breitbart’s death “a tragedy for his family and for conservatism.”

“Andrew Breitbart was the most innovative pioneer in conservative activist social media in America. He had great courage and creativity,” Gingrich tweeted.

Breitbart, an outspoken critic of the mainstream media, was known for taking on his critics on Twitter and frequently re-posted their expletive-laden insults. His final tweet, posted at 11:25 p.m., was part of a similar back-and-forth discussion on the micro-blogging site.

Breitbart became well-known for his work with the Drudge Report. Shortly after the news of his death, Matt Drudge posted a personal tribute to him on his website:

DEAR READER: In the first decade of the DRUDGEREPORT Andrew Breitbart was a constant source of energy, passion and commitment. We shared a love of headlines, a love of the news, an excitement about what’s happening. I don’t think there was a single day during that time when we did not flash each other or laugh with each other, or challenge each other. I still see him in my mind’s eye in Venice Beach, the sunny day I met him. He was in his mid 20′s. It was all there. He had a wonderful, loving family and we all feel great sadness for them today… MDRUDGE

Breitbart was also involved with the Huffington Post in its early stages. Editor in chief Arianna Huffington released a statement on his passing:

I was asked many times this morning for my thoughts on what Andrew meant to the political world, but all I can think of at the moment is what Andrew meant to me as a friend, starting from when we worked together — his passion, his exuberance, his fearlessness. And above all, what I’m thinking of at the moment is his amazing wife Susie and their four beautiful young children. My love and thoughts are with them right now.

  A strong voice in the conservative movement has been silenced – he was a brave man that often walked into the lion’s den. My prayers go to Breitbart’s family and his friends as well as to a nation that needs more of Andrew Breitbart, not less. He will be greatly missed by those that admired him.

  I had the pleasure of meeting the great Breitbart at the right-on-line conference in Minneapolis and followed him down Marquette Ave with his entourage to face off with Nut-Rats (NetRoots) at the convention center. Today, I fell to my knees sobbing when i heard this. I implored God to try to help me understand. We, as a socity, need him so very, very much–he gave so much when he found his way throught the BS. He worked 20 hour days and was a passionate, fearless leader of all that is good and true; as he saw it and showed it to be. I loved him and his boldness. I am heartbroken. May his STAR shine 1000000 times brighter and pierce forever more the dark corners and shadows he broke through so boldly. I Hope a Million more MEN of this USA will Stand UP and speak with even half of Andrew’s convictions. I also pray someone at his company will fulfill Andrew’s mission of BIGEDUCATION he picked as his next challenge. No words can lessen the pain they‘re feeling right now but I’d like them to take heart in the fact that Mr Breitbart had earned many peoples’ respect for his integrity, bravery and tenacity.   While the coroner slept it was determined that he died of natural causes at the YOUNG age of 43. Yes absolutely deffinetly no doubt about it WHILE THE CORONER SLEPT he died of natural causes at such a young age. Such a quick determination that they are shoving down our throats. Yea right.   It has been determined that he died SUDDENLY of natural causes, has anyone taken the time to realize that “while it has been determined” no one is saying WHAT CAUSED his death, but while the coroner slept in the middle of the night it “was determined” that is was “natural causes” that NOBODY WILL TALK ABOUT.

  I certainly feel for the family of Andrew and I’m entirely shocked by his untimely death.
  
  However, let’s not lose fact of the matter which is unfortunately that Andrew was just another Neo-Con pushing their Israel first policy down the throats of an unsuspecting and gullible America. Yes he was passionate and although I don’t know for certain I’d be surprised to learn that Andrew was also a social Conservative.
  
  That being said, I witnessed Andrew and the “Young Turks” guy having a debate last weekend. I don’t know when it was recorded it may have even been live; however, Andrew literally looked possessed. He was probably right on most of the issues that he was so animated over; however, I thought that he was very rude and inconsiderate during the interview. To be honest with you I suspected at the time Andrew was on drugs. I don’t know and I’d hate to cast aspersions upon the man but that is what came to mind in watching that interview.

  A good friend of mine had her father die suddenly from a heart problem at 42. Completely out of the nowhere. It happens, and it’s horrific.
  
  I don‘t agree with all of Breitbart’s methods or causes (as I’m sure many here do not), but it is a tragedy that he died so young. He did the country a service by shining a light into corners usually hidden by shadows. I’m sure someone will pick up his torch.

  the hate from the left is full blown today. they are celebrating. this country is lost. when people celebrate the death of somebody they disagree with, you have lost this country. there is no longer a political divide, this is a division of good vs. evil. evil celebrates like this. this is not the United States of America. this country is lost. people used to be reasonable. now, if somebody says something you disagree with, you wish death upon him? that is not America.

Also, thank you for that sense of humor that you were able to bring into serious debates.   I do not believe Breitbart died of natural causes any more than J.F. Kennedy died of natural causes. Coincidentally he drops dead of mysterious “natural” causes just a short time away from when he was supposed to begin releasing video footage and factual information about Obama’s past. Yeah.   Yup it’s a sign alright. The man was financially able to afford his meds, he was financially able to afford doctors, he was financially able to afford good foods, he was out walking for excercise to stay healthy. Died SUDDENLY while the coroner slept and it was determined VERY quickly that it was natural causes at the young age of 43. Nobody will say what those causes were though will they, oh of course he had a heart attack, while on meds, under a doctors care, while doing everything to stay healthy. Oh it happens. I know it does. Normally it happens to those that cannot afford proper care though. People who are poor, that cannot afford doctors, people that eat the wrong foods, people that dont take medicines, people that dont excercise. Like me. Even with me though the coroner would refrain from a cause of death till AFTER the autopsy. Not here. No autopsy, it was natural causes. I smell fish. Stinking rotten fish. Yup its a sign alright.

  He owed Andrew an apology, and now it is too late. When he still had his TV show, Beck stole Breitbart’s work and used it on the show as if he had done the research. Breitbart did not mind him using it, he minded Beck not giving him credit.

Furthermore it is not so much about fighting hate, it’s about fighting corruption and the hate BEHIND the corruption.   Anonymouse, this is not the time to go into a Glenn Beck hate session. We get you don’t like Glenn. Why you are here on his news site I have no idea. Why don’t you move to the HUFF PO or Media Matters sites where you belong? Anyway, my prayers and well wishes go out to the Breitbart family for their tragic loss. Andrew Breitbart was another of the many shining lights in the Conservative movement and will be greatly missed. I hope his company will continue with his work with the same gusto and joie de vivre that he showed in all that he did. We will miss you Andrew.

  I could care less about behind the scenes backbiting between two people working toward the same goal. Will it matter in November if Breitbart and Beck didn’t get along?
  
  The bottom line here is simple: you can continue to spread hatred over minor sleights and hamper the overall cause, or you can get over it and jump back into the team.
  
  As to the “Tea Party is racist” Breitbart piece, Andrew was wrong and I told him that on open forum on Twitter at least twice.
  
  The bottom line is, if the Tea Party is against Obama because of his policies they have no business supporting a Progressive Republican like either Mitt or Newt. If the end results are the same (with the lone exception of the speed you get there) then it really must come down to skin color, which is the very definition of racism.
  
  Breitbart never responded to those tweets like he did to several others from me, but I know he saw them and he had to know I was right.
  
  RIP Breitbart. We didn‘t always agree but we didn’t have to, so long as we were working at common purposes.

  My sincerest condolences to Andrew’s family, friends, and indeed, to the country he loved. He was doing great things.
  
  The “feud” between Breitbart and Beck was totally one-sided. It was said above that Glenn didn’t give Andrew the credit he deserved for his stories. That is just plain false. I’d never heard of Breitbart before Glenn talked about him in glowing ways, and I never heard Glenn say a derogatory thing about him. I did, however, see Brietbart try to take apart Glenn in the same ways the left always uses, and that saddened me to no end. Even after Andrew’s sites attacked Glenn, Glenn still lauded Andrew’s efforts and gave him great credit and publicity.
  
  We have a legitimate, hardcore fight on our hands to save this once-great nation from an evil that is destroying us in a thousand different ways. Those of us fighting to stay the course our founders laid out for us will disagree on fundamental issues from time to time, just as the great founding fathers did, but when we degrade to the point of slinging mud and personal attacks, we are no better than the gigantic machine we are fighting. Glenn has preached that from day one and, I believe, as followed that better than most mortal men. Disagree with others when necessary, and point out the flaws in their logic, but stop the baseless attacks and mudslinging. A house divided cannot stand, and the left/right divided nation is nowhere near as dangerous as the right divided into a thousand pieces.

However, if Glenn Beck should act as the liberal troglodytes have in spewing hatred after Breitbart’s death, he would owe an apology to God, not Andrew Breitbart. Though God does have joy in welcoming a believer home and regret at the death of the wicked, we are not at liberty to judge the difference. When Ted Kennedy’s cancer was revealed I prayed for him and when he died, I prayed for his family even though I knew that Kennedy had been a bane on American values his entire life.   I just got on the web and was greeted with news of Andrew’s death. I have made Breitbart.com a regular morning read since it’s inception. I will truly miss Andrew’s input. A great conservative American. Rest in peace.

  ICAREABOUTTHEUSA, I agree, I first read about this this am on my Yahoo home page, I immediately tried to post a comment on Huffington Post. I called Brietbart a true patriot who had the courage and determination to stand up to the progressive agenda of this administration, A man who believed in honoring our constitution and dedicated his life trying to restore this once great nation. They refused to post my comment and stated that I was BANNED from making any further comments. Whoa…. so I posted again knowing that they would not post it to their site and to let them have it verbally in no uncertain terms. It was actually funny that they would refuse any comment that was negative to BHO.

  When FOX was covering the very early death of Andrew—HLN called him a “blogger” and Chuck Todd announced what soup was being served in Capitol cafeteria. CNN was reporting that BHO would raise 4 million tonight in NY.
  
  Andrew was a GREAT voice and I’m saddened by his death.
  May he rest in peace and his voice remains to be heard by others who care about this country.

  I just recently lost my mother’s youngest brother (my uncle but he wasn’t much older than me) last year at 40! It is entirely possible. My uncle was an avid runner and seemingly in fabulous health. He passed away from the “Widow Maker.” Heart attack caused by a clot in a very common place and one that was probably genetic. Andrew will be deeply missed. I can only pray that God will send us another warrior to take up his torch. God Bless and Comfort his family during this time. I know what it did to mine to loose someone so suddenly and at such an unexpected age. All I can see people is tell your people how much they mean to you EVERY DAY!!! Show them all the affection you can muster each and every day. We are only promised today. And, even that is fleeting and moment to moment can be your time. Or, theirs. Make every minute count!

  Glenn better be careful. Probably the only reason he‘s still around is that he’s been pushed off into the “crazy zone” along with Alex Jones. But Breitbart had a big announcement coming with alleged videos of Obama’s college days, and the mainstream media would have covered it because Breitbart still had some MSM cache.
