Angry Frenchman Sues Google for ‘Street View’ Image Showing Him Urinating on His Front Lawn

A Frenchman is suing Google for 10,000 euros after the tech giant posted an image of him urinating on the flowerbeds of his front lawn.  Visible in the “Street Views” section of “Maps,” the man only became aware of the photo after he became an object of ridicule in his small town of 3,000.  Though his face was blurred out, neighbors identified him “almost immediately.”

“Everyone has the right to a degree of secrecy,” said his lawyer, Jean-Noel Bouillard.  ”In this particular case, it’s more amusing than serious. But if he’d been caught kissing a woman other than his wife, he would have had the same issue.”

So, how far is too far?  If you’re performing embarrassing actions in full view of the road, is it fair game?  Or does Google have a responsibility to monitor for such photos before posting them?

Only a frenchman would think it was OK to pee in public but think it was wrong for people to see it.

If he urinated in public view, why is he attacking Google for taking his picture? They didn’t get it by peeping in his bathroom window. He should be charged with public indecency and the streetview used as evidence.

Personally I hate street view, satellite view’s because it gives criminals a perfect view of every exit and entry of your property, escape routes ect….and they know what my land looks like !! Privacey is gone !

I agree with you completely. I am shocked that the public does not consider how a stalker or a robber could case someone’s home from the internet. Doesn’t privacy mean anything any more. Google has no business publishing photos of one’s private property.

Actually, France smells like urine most of the time. People urinate all over the place there.

I find it amusing that his face was blocked out but his neighbors recognized him instantly!
In America he would be charged as a sexual offender and probably denied a gun even though we used to have 2 hole outhouses. People are too freaked out nowadays. I do not like what Google is doing though, and have cancelled my accounts and stopped using the search unless its a last resort.

Sooooooo, this guy….who is peeing outside…I repeat….OUTSIDE…is concerned about privacy? I’d say “only in France” but this type of lunacy is becoming more and more common.

And just for the record, I do believe that our privacy is being invaded in more and more ways. I just think that if you decide to do something like that, outside, you run the risk of someone catching you. This is just common sense.

@ Edubble21: “This is just common sense” Sorry, but “just” common sense is an oxymoronic term nowadays as common sense is none too common — especially in Europe (were are, of course, getting there on the Obama Express).

a sure way to keep your privacy – bring a lawsuit, make it news. I’m guessing he either wants this publicity or is very dumb.

I have no idea what the laws are in France concerning privacy. But if Google knows enough to blank out a person’s face then they should at least have the courtesy to blank out his dingus.

TEchnically what I see through your window is also viewable from a public street…should we presume that unless your shades are drawn you have no right to privacy in your own home? Use those last remaining brain cells of yours and think for a minute would you?

Did anyone break any laws? Not sure if they even have any “decency laws” in France as they do in the USA. If not, then no law was broken, but if he doesn’t want his “stuff” to be seen, then he ought not be displaying it in public. . just sayin’.

His neighbors probably wouldn‘t want to see that goin’ on. . I really don’t wish to see my neighbors “watering their flowers!” lol

And not sure Google broke any laws either, so the guy may just need to be tough and use his private indoor bathroom next time. Life is rough, I know. . . but this guy should be ok. . lol

“When you gotta go, you gotta go.”………………….LOL!!!!! Funny but I pity him……That’s why when “I gotta go?“ I do it inside in a room designated ”the bathroom” or when I’m on the road in the city, I practiced “mind over matter” “I think I can” thinking till I get to a restaurant or even a Gas Station. On the rural highways? I pulled over locked up my car, activate the alarm and do my “two mile hike” into the forest and greet the call of nature, away from the views of cameras or from outer space zooming in on your ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh colon and bladder relief episode………..LMAO!!!!! You never know these days, who might be click watching……

As much as I think this guy is a complete and utter boob, the truth is that he should win the case. Being primitive is not the same as being criminal by any means. So if he mugged somebody on camera, that hurts somebody so crosses the line, but peeing on his own garden, I don’t care. If he pee’ed on my garden, I would care. Peeing on his garden is a primiitive person’s way of marking his territory, so OK. Peeing on my garden, to such a mind, indicates that he considers this territory his too. I would find this offensive, and alert the authorities.

If I was in my yard and my next-door neighbor decided to pee on his property, in my sight, I’d call the cops. If I peed in public, I’d expect whoever saw me to do the same. You have to EXPOSE YOURSELF to relieve yourself. Your property or not, you’re IN PUBLIC when you leave your front door. Expect consequences for bad behavior accordingly. It’s 2012 A.D., not 2012 B.C.

Let us all come up to speed–it seems to me you have to pick your battles. Is this guy a primitive a–hole?. Absolutely. Is it worth my attention given the bigger political arguments going on in the world?, No, I don’t think so. It does give me pause however because if the middle class people like me take to peeing on things to declare themselves then maybe things are worse than I even imagined. Maybe his primitivity is deserving of respect–disturbing. Maybe in a good way.
