(The Blaze/AP) Police in Vermont say a woman who might have been angry about a dead raccoon left on a street took its bloody carcass to City Hall and angrily slammed it against the building’s doors.
Burlington police say the woman left the raccoon’s body outside City Hall before walking off one morning two weeks ago.
Witnesses have told the Burlington Free Press the animal might have been hit on a nearby street and that the woman might have been upset no one from the city had come to collect it.
Police say the woman faces a possible vandalism charge. They also say her actions created a public health hazard.
They‘re seeking the public’s help in identifying the woman and have released a description and surveillance photo of her.

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 6:32pmSo its ok for the dead carcuss to rot on the street, but to rot in the city offices oh my! thats a public health hazard! I have had the same problem with the city in which i live re: picking up leaves on the street. i call them and the woman on the phone says ” we will pick them up, but you should not blow them in the street.” I told her i dont own a blower, which i dont ” we will take care of it.” rude as H#$$ attitute, i called her back and told her “gee i wish i had a city job.” they finally cleaned up the mess.

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 4:48pmHey, if they weren’t coming out and removing it I can actually see her anger and frustration.
Report Post »Probably not the best way to handle it but IF the city didn’t respond to telephone calls( a big assumption on my part) she has a right to be mad.

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 3:21pmI live in a city with a population of nearly one million, so my neighborhood is definitely not out in the country. A neighbor two doors down decided that she no longer needed to take her trash out, but rather stockpiled it in her garage. This caused the neighborhood to be over run with rats.
After calls to rodent control (yes my city has a division for that) and to the “Mayor’s Action Center” where citizens can file concerns, I was given the run around as to how to get the problem solved. One department saying to call the other etc. I came home for lunch one day and found a dead rat in my driveway. I had enough, and double bagging the rat in two Ziploc bags took it to city hall and the mayor’s action center. When I tried to explain my problem to the woman at the desk she again referred me to rodent control. That is when I dropped the bagged rat on her desk, and told her that someone had better do something or I was taking the rat to the local media.
That afternoon I got a call from rodent control and within 48 ours they had baited the entire neighborhood and ordered the garbage removed from the property two doors down.
Some times citizens need to stir up the pot to get anything done.
On an interesting note, shortly after my visit the Action Center was moved to a part of city hall where citizens cannot have access to it.

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 11:56amHow is a dead raccoon at the City Hall door any more of a health hazard than one in the road? Or for that matter, any more of a health hazard than most politicians and their policies?

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 10:56amYeah, you can’t hunt them anymore due to PETA. So it’s much better just letting them get hit by vehicles. DUH!

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 1:01amFor what? What about this makes sense? There are hundreds of dead animals on the roads and streets. I wish that she would have the same determination to complain about what’s going on in Washington or in her own state. There are allot more important issues in this country than failure to pick up a dead animal off the street.

And there are city employees that get paid very well to make sure those dead animals get cleaned up. It‘s illegal in most states for private citizens to remove dead animals from the streets so if they don’t get removed by the city they sit there and rot.
