UPDATE: Hilary Rosen has apologized to Ann Romney
Ann Romney hit back Thursday morning at a Democratic strategist who said she had “never worked a day in her life,” saying she made the “career choice” to be a stay-at-home mom.
The flap started Wednesday night when Democratic consultant Hilary Rosen asserted on CNN that the wife of GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney had no business speaking about the economic concerns of women because she “never worked a day in her life.” Ann Romney raised five sons and has suffered from breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.
“She should have come to my house when those five boys were causing so much trouble. It wasn’t so easy,” Ann Romney said during an appearance on Fox News.
“My career choice was to be a mother and I think all of us need to know that we need to respect choices that women make,” she said. “Other women make choices to have a career and raise a family, which I think Hilary Rosen has actually done herself. I respect that, that’s wonderful. But you know, there are other people that have a choice, and we have to respect women and all those choices that they make.”
Calling it an “awesome responsibility” to raise children, she also gave a “shout-out to all the dads that are at home raising kids.”
Referencing her own hardships, Romney said she knows “what it’s like to struggle.”
“If maybe I haven’t struggled as much financially as some people have, I can tell you and promise you that I’ve had struggles in my life,” she said. “And I would love to have people understand that Mitt and I have compassion for people who are struggling.”
Blasting Rosen’s claims that her husband “doesn’t really see“ women ”as equals,“ Ann Romney said Mitt is a person who ”admires women and listens to them.”
“Now that does bother me,” she said. “That is not correct at all. You should see how many women he listens to, and that’s what I love about Mitt. He has so many women in his circle.”
Watch Ann Romney’s appearance below, via Fox News:
Rosen did not back down from her words when appeared on CNN earlier Thursday, but said she loves “stay-at-home moms“ and called being a mother ”the hardest job in the world.
“This really isn’t about stay-at-home moms vs. working moms, it’s about women in general,” she said. “I love stay-at-home moms and I have nothing against them and I support them all the time.”
First lady Michelle Obama also injected herself into the fray, tweeting Thursday afternoon: “Every mother works hard, and every woman deserves to be respected.”

Posted on April 12, 2012 at 1:56pmThere was a day when most Mom’s stayed home and raised their children. Remember in those days children grew up having little problems if any at all! Then along came MAN made war, and women were forced outside of the home to work! When dad came home, most women decided they liked working instead of raising children.. and this began the the downfall of families! First Satan got man all stirred up over war.. and then he enticed women to keep working instead of raising their children. They let other people raise their kids while they made a career! So came the breakdown of family! I will say this, by the looks of the Romney family she did a fine job as mother. And why should she have to work.. her husband made plenty of money.. she made her career motherhood and that is the finest job a woman can do! I am not condemning women who work.. but just how many would have rather stayed home and raised their own kids, but were forced to go out and work to help support the family!??? How many women missed the first steps of their children because they were at work? How many missed their childs first word, but their babysitter heard it.. And then the dark side.. how many children were abused at the hands of a babysitter, how many were sexually abused, or even murdered? Motherhood Mr. Obama is a sacred thing… and mothers work harder today than ever.. evil is everywhere. If my children were little today they would never see the inside of a school room! And I would raise them myself!

I think all Communists and Progressives (one and the same?) in the government should be publicly burned at the stake in full color and in prime time as an example to the rest of them to leave the private sector alone and quit meddling in what they have absolutely no clue about. They need to slither back behind closed doors where all inane, failed cults belong and leave the rest of us to live our lives in the sun, unmolested by their depraved, GLOBALLY FAILED and false ideology.
If the society has lost its stomach for such a wonderful and freedom affirming spectacle such as public burning of Communists then I pray for the present course to continue its inexorable march to their absolute collapse (along with society and its perversions) so that God can finally take HIS country back and return it to the playpen of the Constitution and the brilliant, inspired intent of the founding fathers whom we have all forgotten so much about. I am a blue collar guy and my wife, whom has a Psych degree, left her career willingly to be there for our kids. We both sacrifice, because it is what is best for our children. NO ONE will take as good care of your kids than their mother. We are talking about rearing the next generation, not just changing diapers. It is a godly and sacrificial choice to put one’s self aside for the needs of the family. These are the kind of women who deserve to be revered more than any other. There is no more important work than that of the family.
Indeed, such sacrifice by a woman is a far cry from the “me me me” mentality, where Uncle Sam effectively serves as surrogate husband, because some women CHOOSE to make babies with men not worthy of marrying. Any woman who buys into the lies and wants to take on the role of mama and daddy is selling her children and herself short. Ann Romney is one of the greatest role models for women ever to grace American politics.

By limo or did you drive yourself?” Ritter, acknowledged he drove himself. To which Senator Biden replied, “Then WHY should we even listen to you?”
Tthe current White House should have even worse problems than the Romneys who only spend from their personal assets while the people in the White House are taking million dollar vacations to Hawaii, Spain and, and even send their minor child on an international vacation with 25 Secret Service men. Bo’s handler is paid $108,000/Yr.
I could careless if the Romneys have dozens of homes nor a parking lot full of cars. I do want to know if he has read the US Constitution and does he respect it?
I had a problem with Rick Santorium because he once called into to Glenn Beck‘s program and in sum said that he had seven children to raise and he wasn’t “rich” like Glenn to donate more to charity. (I don’t care if he gives to charity or not). But he makes more than $1 million/year and seemed to think he needed it all for his seven kids. (Have friend with 8 kids and they live on $40

Posted on April 12, 2012 at 4:17pm“Nevermind”, a perfect handle for you! Because what you say about Romney “not connecting” is very misleading, unfair, and warrants a “nevermind” as if it had never been uttered……If you would spend time LISTENING to him at his town-hall meetings, he encourages random audience questions, pays close attention to the questioner and then directly gives his response. In fact, he recalls who asked what question and, sometimes later in his speech, may return to a particular person who asked a germane question about whatever topic. He is very empathetic and does connect. Admittedly it requires a listening skill that some people simply don’t exercise! Please reconsider your assertion, Nevermind, as it is damaging to a very erudite candidate who does not deserve it.

Posted on April 12, 2012 at 12:58pmI like your comment that she (Ann) probably has loved and has been proud of her country most of her life. That is a tremendous statement – since, most women are gracious and appreciative of the freedoms that they enjoy and grow on. Thanks!

Posted on April 12, 2012 at 12:26pmIt is the very actions of the Federal Government that has forced middle class American women to enter the workforce in an effort to simply feed their children. For them to now say that the experience of being forced to leave home to meet survival needs of your children is somehow enriching or empowering and comes with a special mantle of superiority is insanity itself.
Women were forced by the actions of the Federal Government to leave the house and family. To feed their kids. A thick layer of propaganda lent the destruction of motherhood an air of credibility.

Posted on April 12, 2012 at 1:01pmThat is the Marxist governmental goal – to have all work – and put the kids in the propagandized impersonal day care that they gave planned. That, is their utopia – not nurturing and teaching children one on one like only mothers and fathers can do.

Posted on April 12, 2012 at 12:23pmIn the bitter, uspide down little world of liberal-land…it’s not seen as “hard work” when a woman who’s been dealing with cancer and MS chooses to raise her five sons because her husband has the means to provide for them on his own. No..raising children is a piece of cake compared to clocking in at your cubicle and leaving at 5 pm.
