CNBC:
In an effort to send a message to big banks, some organizers, who are supported by the protestors of the Occupy Wall Street movement, have organized an event to remove all funds from banks and into credit unions.
Organizers are calling the event “Bank Transfer Day” and are encouraging people nationwide to participate November 5.
The Facebook page for the event states the following:
“Together we can ensure that these banking institutions will ALWAYS remember the 5th of November!! If the 99% removes our funds from the major banking institutions on or by this date, we will send a clear message and give the 1% a taste of the fear that we experience every day when we aren’t able to pay for our rent, food, medication, utilities, student loans, etc.”
So far over 6,500 people have RSVP’ed for the event.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 3:16amLOL! The 99% pull their money? How is that 50% of Americans don’t even hold jobs and/or pay taxes, but yet 99% of Americans are going to pull their cash out of the bank?
I’m not a math major, but someone needs to teach these idiotic communists the basics of arithmetic since the public schools were too busy indoctrinating them with Marxist ideology instead of reading, writing, and arithmetic.
I think I finally figured what the 99% means. 20% of the American population consider themselves “liberals”. The 99% must be the 19.8% of the 20% of “liberals” who don’t actually have any brains.
Yep, that has to be it.

Wasn’t that something, but we let it slip by… along with spelling doesn’t count, showing no respect, wearing pajamas to school. What did WE expect would come out of that? They were groomed for this… where were we, their parents and grandparents, while it happened? It‘s not all their fault they’re the way they are… this 99% that can’t do math, I’m just sayin.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 3:06amThese lost souls want it to be on November 5th because it is ‘Guy Fawkes Day’. Nov. 5th 1605. He was one of thirteen Catholics involved in the ‘Gunpowder Plot’ to blow up the house of Parliment, aimed to kill all of Parliment as well as King James.
Report Post »Bloody Mary, a Catholic, was burning Protestants for 5 years, 1553-1558. Elizibeth 1st got in and started and continued to burn Catholics until 1603. King James, (son of Mary, Queen of Scotts, who litterally lost her head under the order of cousin Elizabeth), came into power. James was born Catholic, but was raised Protestant. All, Protestant and Catholic alike, agreed James to be the rightful blood heir of the whole Island. His crowning created ‘Great Britain’. Catholics hoped it would stop the persecutions. He didn’t.
For nine months, Guy and 12 others, secretly placed barrels of gunpowder topped with scraps of metal in Parliment’s basement. Fawkes drew the lot to set the fuse. One of the group had a wife, who convinced her husband to warn her brother not to be there. The brother got the note to the king, the wife’s huband was tortured, and Guy Fawkes was stopped. All 13 were executed. The expression, ‘the guy’ is coming to fix this or do that, is from ‘Guy’ Fawkes.
It’s celebrated in England every Nov. 5th. Holding a dummy of Fawkes, “Penny for the guy”, kids yell to adults. At night there is a bonfire of the dummies.
Thus, the Guy Fawkes masks on some protesters. Non-violent?
NOTAMUSHROOM
Posted on October 17, 2011 at 8:23amYup. But you forgot to add that Guy (AKA Guido) was tortured, gave up the other 12 conspirators, then broke his neck while leaping from the gallows, only to have his lifeless body drawn and quartered. LOSER! The celebration with bonfires was declared by Parliment, but has morphed into a modern day statement of with whom the public is annoyed, such as Margaret Thatcher in the recent past.
These tools of OWS don’t even understand real history, nor do they care that the institutions they protest are the same institutions that have given them the policies of serfdom BY THEIR OWN PERMISSION!!! And they protest for MORE OF THE SAME!!!

Just proves that they’re “useful idiots” some probably think they’re having a Big Halloween Party. Come to think of it, this is very like the druids used to use the kids to celebrate hallo’ een way back when, isn’t it? devils and zombies anyone!!!

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 3:04amI said in an earlier post that nobody is holding a gun to people’s heads making them use big corporate banks like Bank of America, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, etc. Credit unions are a great alternative since the members are also the owners. I think it’s a good idea if everybody did move their bank accounts (which report to stock holders) over to credit unions (which members own). The only problem I could foresee if this does happen, however, is our government will then give MORE bailout money to these big banks once again because they will still be “too big to fail” and will fail if everybody abandons them. Anyway, mutual companies where the members are also the owners are a viable alternative to giant corporations.
Also, any corporation that becomes so big that they can’t “fail” or they will take down the rest of the economy if they do fail, should be broken up before getting that big. That’s a way to hold our taxpayers hostage, which let’s corporations take unnecessary risks because they have nothing to lose. If GE blows $100 billion on an unsuccessful experiment, they won’t care because they know the government will bail them out. That’s not how the free market is supposed to work. Companies need to have failure as an option. So either these corporations don’t get any bailouts if they do fail, or they can’t get that big to begin with. That “too big to fail” premise was the wrong idea in that 2008 bailout.
Report Post »NOTAMUSHROOM
Posted on October 17, 2011 at 8:35am“That’s not how the free market is supposed to work.”
Correct. Because that is not a “free market.”. That is Keynesian hogwash.
Read “Keynes Hayek” by Nicholas Wapshott to better understand how economies work and don’t work when the government gets involved. Keynes was an elite professor of economics at Kings College, Cambridge, and Hayek was a young man of the real world who had to live with the results of Keynsian economic policies. He was determined to prove to Keynes that excessive government intervention in the economy not only lead to economic ruin, but to political tyranny.
Who do you think was right? I guess we aren’t called the “right” without reason.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 9:36amThere is no such thing as “too big to fail”. That’s a ruse fronted to allow the government/fascist/mercantilist guilds to fleece us wholesale.
So some big banks go under, big deal, smaller, more lean banks/credit unions would pop up very quickly to fill the void. It’s not a zero sum game, the market is dynamic, efficient and ruthless to non-competative businesses. Same with any other industry.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 2:09amThis won’t amount to a hill of beans. Most people don’t have very much in the bank. Their assets are their home, car, and 401K retirement fund which is not sitting in a bank account. If they got a million people (which would be a miracle) to transfer $10,000 each it only amounts to $10 billion which is peanuts in the world of finance. The real amount they will move will likely be much less. This is just another attention grabber to garner publicity. Don’t buy into the hype.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 1:41amWho’s the Boss?
When the Lord made man, all the parts of the body argued over who would be boss.
The brain explained that since he controlled all the parts of the body, he should be boss. The legs argued that since they took man wherever he wanted to go, they should be boss. The stomach countered with the explanation that since he digested all the food, he should be boss. The eyes said that without them man would be helpless, so they should be boss. Then the ******* applied for the job. The other parts of the body laughed so hard at this that the ******* became mad and closed up.
After a few days…
The brain went foggy, the legs got wobbly, the stomach got ill, and the eyes got crossed and unable to see. They all conceded and made the ******* boss.
This proved that you don’t have to be a brain to be boss…
Just an *******.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 1:34amGee, these guys are brilliant! Why don’t we all stomp at the same time on a balcony dance floor? Why don‘t we all have a ’sympathetic’ flush at the same moment and cause a tidal wave? (Or wipe out the plumbing in a high rise apartment building (it helps if you block the vents, first!) Why don‘t we all have a ’green moment’ and turn off all use of electricity–which would wreak havoc on the power grid! Why don’t we all refuse to vote and screw up an election? Why don’t we all pay our tolls with pennies every Monday? Why don’t we all eat eggs on the 1st of each month? Why don’t we all fart at the same time and blow the windows out of an airplane? It is luddite thinking beyond reason to try and stress our systems! Maybe they are robust enough to handle the discontinuity–maybe not! Why don’t we all run to one side of a ferry boat to see if we can tip it over? Why don’t we all run to the back of the plane at the moment of landing? Why don’t we all run traffic lights at the same time? Why don’t we all buy one size screw at Home Depot and then return them 10 days later? For what purpose? A childish prank? Idiots! If you don’t like your bank, start another one and beat them on the competitive playing field! Your ideas are disruptive and transient! They have no lasting value! They just break, but do not replace with something better! What if all the farmers refused to plant their crops one year! Haha! You guys remind me of the battle of the bod

The banks were just doing what Barney Frank wanted them to do…loan money to people who could not afford a home …simply because they deserved one. Banks don‘t loan money to people who can’t pay back
=======================================
Put the cap back on the glue bottle because you don’t have a clue…
Retail-level (mostly local) lenders created those mortgages then they turned around and sold them to the banks just as fast as they could…
Then the banks chopped those fraudulent mortgages up into smaller pieces and bundled them into instruments called mortgage-backed securities that they paid the ratings agencies to rate as AAA-rated securities.
Then the banks tried to dump those worthless securities on to the backs of unsuspecting investors all over the planet.
Nobody forced those banks to purchase those mortgages from the retail-level lenders.
