Another Bizarre Sesame Street Guest Star: Colin Farrell?

In what’s shaping up to be quite an interesting season of characters, Irish actor Colin Farrell is the latest Hollywood personality to drop in for a guest spot on Sesame Street.  Recently, the children’s television favorite pulled a risqué appearance by scantily-clad pop star Katy Perry.  Now, the Daily Mail is reporting that Farrell will appear on an upcoming episode.  Another Bizarre Sesame Street Guest Star: Colin Farrell?

Farrell is an interesting choice for the kid’s program, especially considering that he hasn’t made a single film in the last decade which the tots who watch Sesame Street could legally view without their parents.  In Hollywood, Farrell is widely known for his acting skills, but also for his rebellious hell-raiser attitude, colorful language and heavy drinking.

Farrell has two sons – seven-year-old James with former girlfriend, US model Kim Bordenave and one-year-old Henry from his relationship with current partner, his Ondine co-star Alicja Bachleda-Curus.

In December 2005, Farrell voluntarily checked into a rehabilitation treatment centre for addictions to recreational drugs and painkillers.

In addition, let‘s hope the kiddies don’t Google Farrell to discover he’s also battled in court with a former lover over the public distribution of a sex tape.

Farrell has said filming the guest spot was one of the high-points of his career.

“I did a scene with Elmo and a couple of the other characters,” he says.

“The word of the day was ‘investigation.’ We did a scene with a couple of talking carrots,” he explained, before adding, “and s**t. It was genius!”

Closing question: Why can’t Sesame Street seem to come up with a wholesome and decent Hollywood role model for kids?  Are there any left?  Let us know what you think.

I watched Sesame Street back in the 80s, and there was never this kind of filth on the show back then. They actually taught things on the show when I was a tyke. It‘s a shame what it’s turned in to. I will not let my children watch it. Shame on you Elmo and company!

Perhaps they could run Colin’s X Rated tape on the next show….since they are trying to degrade this long running TV institution ……..

I saw this coming long ago when they had Hilary Clinton and Jim Carey and such. I feel sad that my children don’t get the same Sesame Street as I did. But I won’t let my kids watch it, its riddled with Kool-aid. I won’t even let the kids HAVE anything with Elmo, he bugs the heck out of me.

20 years ago, kids were better prepared for the first grade if they watched an hour of Sesame Street a day than if they attended most 6 hour public kindergarten programs. I wonder if that is still true?

Time for a game of perspectives.

As a kid I watched a show called “Shining Time Station” that featured a character called “Mr. Conductor”. For the first season it was played by Ringo Starr, but for the majority of the show’s run it was played by this guy named George Carlin.

I knew nothing about his work and didn’t care, but my parents didn’t force me to listen to his stuff or freak out over someone like him being on a kids show since you have to start somewhere to branch into family friendly work.

And as an even happier ending for this story, when they felt I was mature enough NOT to repeat the 7 dirty words at school, let me listen to some of his albums. I’ve been a huge fan of his since.

If I were a father and my kid saw this, I would treat it the same way, sit them down when they’re mature enough and show them something like “Phone Booth” to show that not only can Farrell rock it with Muppets but also an amazing actor.

If he really has changed why haven‘t we seen any publicity of the good deeds he’s done and furthermore just because you father children does not make you a dad I don’t see any words of comittment ie. Married to either of the childrens mothers.

For his good deeds, he does them without promoting them. He was humble and shy when he got caught doing nice things for the homeless during the Toronto International Film Festival one year.

And the only comitment he needs to make is to the children, to be a part of their lifes and a positive influence on them.

Here’s a guy who went to rehap cleaned up his act, has two young children he is father to and that’s probably why he rehabed, realizing the important things in life, his kids thinking he’s probably the coolest dad in the world for being on one of thier favorite shows, ( I mean I can see that ) and everyone here speaks so badly of him due to his past.

I’m sure Glenn Beck understands that moment in life where you go, mmm, Maybe this isn’t the way to go ,and then change how you live your life.

I saw nothing distasteful about the clip. Most kids that age where they think Sesame street is cool don’t spend a lot of time looking up the guests on the computer. What? Colin can’t change?

Great post, I agree. If we don’t believe in second chances, we might as well hand in our American Cards today and be done with it. We’re a nation founded on the very notion of second chances.

I don’t see the problem with Farrell on SS.
Robin Williams was on the show 6 times. At one point in his life he was addicted to concaine and later beat the addiction. His stand-up material is definately not for kids. But his SS appearances were fine. Go to youtube and watch any of his Sesame Street videos. They are kid appropriate.
Now, if Matt Damon were on SS telling kids Howard Zinn stories, sure, that is a problem.

I suppose if you’re trying to improve your image to promote your insideous viewpoint more effectively, you appeal to the gullable, who would consider your appearance on a children’s show as a thoughtful, caring gesture.

Sesame Street has long been a Progressive/Liberal Media outlet. I don’t know why their recent “celebrity” guest are in question now. Either pay a babysitter or be engaged with your children/grandchildren… But don’t just plug them into poop like this !!

I would assume having a handsome actor on a program for children, helps to influence mom and dad to sit and watch it with them. Just watching puppets alone isn’t that entertaining for adults…..lol
If he keeps political views out of the equation, doesn’t push drugs, I feel no harm done. It isn’t my place to condemn him for past drug problems, and he sought help for it….good for him! Anyway, we have had presidents, past and present, whom I would be more concerned about,if my young children listened to….btw, I think this has already happened with that song about the current POTUS!! lol

The Left won’t be satisfied until we have K-6 whores who become little girls going to their abortion mills immediatley after the onset of puberty.

We do the same but it is the box office dollars I would like to go away, unless it it a movie that doesn’t go over the top, with a cast that doesn’t curse conservatives in their spare time. Most kids rely on their parents for movie $ and if parents are conservatives they shouldn’t support these twits at the box office.

Right on! We don’t have the soapbox to stand on that is often given to these idiots, so our choice is not to contribute to their wealth by going to their movies or buying their records.

How ’bout a boycott of Hollywood? Perhaps if they weren’t making millions and being supported by conservative viewers their attitude toward the movement and capitalism would change. They live in a fanasy world and need a reality check.

Great idea. I canceled public TV years ago and haven’t missed it. It’s funny…. We spend a lot of time playing board games, soccer and reading with the kids. Interestingly enough, our kids LOVE to be around their parents and my wife and I get along great. In fact… It’s kind of like how grandpa and grandma raised their kids and had a tight nit family. You can get your news online. There’s no need to for TV. Try it out and find out how much time you spend with your wife and kids.

the folks in Hollywood need to boycott sleazy scripts. They need to go back to the 50s & 60s definitions for PG, PG-13 etc. I wonder what sort of stuff Mr. Farrell allows his kids to watch?

I wanna see GLENN BECK host Sesame Street!!!! Now THERE’S a positive roll model. Of course they would have to edit out the blood shooting out of his eyes. Hahahaha…. But they would probably have the highest ratings they’ve had in YEARS. I say we start a Facebook Campaign… “Send Glen To Sesame Street!”

BTW….. My son and I watch Sesame Street on SPROUT. I don‘t know if it’s still on PBS or not. And…today’s Sesame Street episode was all about recycling and global warming. I turned it off and we went to the airport to watched the planes instead. MUCH more fun and a lot less propaganda.

I agree! The kids that watch Sesame Street are not going to have a clue who Farrell even is and what problems he has had with drugs, sex tapes or alcohol. They probably are not old enough to read People so I really don’t see what the big deal is!
But to someones earlier post……..it is PBS and they are a very liberal station also so that is how he and the others have gotten picked.
