Another Leftist Religious Group With Alleged Ties to Soros, Secular Non ProfitsEditor’s note: This is the second part of a series The Blaze is doing on George Soros’ ties to various religious groups. Part one can be found here.

Back in 2004, atheist billionaire George Soros spoke to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, saying the following:

“There’s nothing wrong with religion. I think that there is something wrong with the fundamentalist view of the world, because the fact that your opponents are wrong doesn’t necessarily make you right.”

This quote is curious, considering that nearly every religious organization Soros funds would qualify as “fundamentalist.”  Each group embraces an extreme, leftist political agenda and is seems intent on dismantling or — at the least — working fervently against right-leaning perspective and policy.

Earlier this month, The Blaze began delving into atheist Soros’ ties to religious groups. The first organization we examined, Faithful America, has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from Soros’ Open Society Institute. Today, we will delve into the leftist agenda that the National Council of Churches (NCC) embraces. It is important to note that NCC founded Faithful America, turning it over to Faith in Public Life back in 2007.

NCC was founded in 1950 and describes itself as “…the leading force for ecumenical cooperation among Christians in the United States. The NCC’s member faith groups [are] from a wide spectrum of Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, Evangelical, historic African American and Living Peace churches…”

When the organization was founded, it absorbed the Federal Council of Churches, which DiscovertheNetworks.org refers to as a “communist front-group.” In recent years, NCC has been accused of having cozy ties with various organizations that exist on the far edges of the American left. The group’s activities and stances, without a doubt, mirror those of some of the most secular non-profit organizations in the United States.

Many accuse the NCC of spending the majority of its time confronting political and social issues, rather that preaching the Christian gospel it claims to hold as its main underpinning. According to a special report compiled by the The Institute on Religion & Democracy (IRD) back in 2006, NCC has not lived up to its spiritual commitments nor to its intended purposes:

The reality of the NCC has always fallen short of its high ideals. Articulating a “common faith in Jesus Christ” has not been a high priority for the council, as measured by its budgets, news releases, and publications. Instead the stress has fallen upon a “prophetic” social witness (i.e., taking positions on controversial political issues).

A brief look at the group’s task forces and activities expose its stances on illegal immigration, global warming and other “justice” issues. Last month, the NCC met in New York City to plan for the group’s upcoming fiscal year activities. Despite its need to cut down on staff and budget, NCC pushed forward, full throttle, with its leftist agenda. IRD writes:

Several left-leaning resolutions, including those aiming to promote relaxed immigration policies, were passed and other positions, such as its largely pacifist stance on the use of American military force and opposition to federal austerity measures, were affirmed.

IRD goes on to claim that NCC often looks to left-leaning organizations to sponsor its activities when member contributions (from its member denominations) run low. Thus, NCC is allegedly using grant money from the Soros’ Open Society Institute to advance liberal policies in Washington.

Last month, IRD reported that NCC will receive new monies from Soros to work on a criminal justice program:

The NCC’s Faith and Action Criminal Justice Working Group was awarded a grant from leftist billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Institute to advocate on behalf of a bill that would seek to restructure the current U.S. criminal justice system. The money would specifically be used to cover all expenses, including air travel, for faith activists to promote the legislation on Capitol Hill…

The working group also advocated for tighter control laws to cut down on domestic gun violence.

According to IRD, this isn’t the first time the group has had interest in partnering with Soros:

The 2003-2004 NCC foundation highlights document referred to seeking an unspecified amount of money from “OSI” for “Poverty and Voter Registration.” Similarly, the 2004-2005 foundation plans document indicated an intention of seeking a $75,000 grant from “OSI (Soros)” via the Connect US Network for purposes of “Multilateralism and Peace.” It is not known for certain whether these grants ever came through in any form.
DiscovertheNetworks.com reports that monies have come from the Sierra Club, TrueMajority, People for the American Way, MoveOn.org, and Connect US Network, which Soros’ Open Society Institute has also helped fund.
Considering some of the work the group has been engaged in this year alone, these purported ties aren’t surprising. Over the past year, the Justice and Advocacy Commission (JAC), NCC’s D.C. lobbying arm worked hard to push for START ratification (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty), condemned Israeli settlements and has called for the removal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. In March 2011, the group opposed Rep. Peter King’s Congressional hearings on radical Islam.

In November 2010, the NCC posted a press release on its site claiming that “top U.S. Christian leaders“ had met with President Obama to ”speak for Americans who are struggling.” The release, curiously written by Faith in Public Life, was devoted to praising the president:

Leaders with both the National Council of Churches and the global humanitarian agency Church World Service thanked President Obama for passage of historic health reform legislation and robust engagement with the faith community, while also pressing him to take a strong stance on behalf of families facing poverty and hunger…

Leaders of major Christian denominations joined NCC and CWS leaders to thank the President for his leadership and to urge him to prioritize a number of issues, including strengthening our fraying safety net, extending unemployment benefits as the economy continues to falter, and lifting people out of poverty with a focus on job creation for those in poverty, job training, and education.

In the past, the NCC has also stood firmly against both Iraq wars, has pushed for “due-process rights” for Guantanamo Bay detainees and has claimed the global warming is human-induced.

In the end, NCC has every right to engage in these activities. That said, the interconnections that organizations like NCC have with ultra-liberal non-profits showcase a pervasive, policy-driven use of religious cohesion. Furthermore, the interconnectedness of organizations like NCC, Faithful America, Faith in Public Life and others indicates a one-mindedness that seems more rooted in political gain than it is spiritual sustainability.

    For those of you who don’t actually read the Bible but just quote social justice verses, Jesus only fed the masses earthly bread two times…then He stopped to see who would stick around for the spiritual bread…THE BREAD OF LIFE. The crowds LEFT because his sayings were too hard…He wanted them to change their lives and their souls by believing in Him as the source of eternal life. Yes, He wanted all men to be poor in SPIRIT or humble in order to allow God to be their master. They did not want HIS bread that would fulfill them completely so they would hunger no more, spiritually or physically. When God changes you, you come out of your laziness, your addictions and your bondage to this world. You won’t be a beggar anymore, that’s a guarantee! Come freely! Feast on HIS word, not just a verse misquoted, and watch the scales fall from your eyes!

      that is what I am trying say. Jesus wanted us to follow and have spiriitual fullfillment. Not monetary or material.We all know that does not matter. It is the Service to the people of need, whether they neeed spiritual need or monetary need. We are asked to give freely, not manditory giving which these people seek. My sister always trashes me for having faith in god and his son. but I AM HUMBLED FOR MY MEEKNESS. I would not trade my life for anuthing. My sister relies ongovernment assistance and believes goverbment will always take care of her. I am the opposite. I know god wants us to provide for ourselves, no collective salvation here.

Soros et al will use these funded people to push a far left agenda under the guise of Christianity and to attack Christians who disagree with them. Apparently NCC has no problem taking the thirty pieces of silver.

    Mr.Butcher..In Acts 4:34 that was the Jerusalem church that sold their posessions and distributed their wealth.GOD was preparing them so they would not have lost everything when Titus destroyed Jerusalem.       Well Put BO!! God tells us to have a house of stotrage. Does that make us hoarders in our religion? No, he want sus to be prepared. I have a garden that I and proud of. I do not go to the store for vegetables because god says to help yourself. Make your house a house of storage. I have food storage. i love my church because we focus on service, food storage for a year(use to be at least 2 years), And the teaching and love of Jesus and the teaching of The prophets of old.I think if people want ot know that god wants us to be prepared for our houses read the story of Joesph and the Pharaoh of Egypt. Joesph was sold by his brother to slave drivers, they hated him because thier father saw holiness in him. He was in prison in the Egypt Jail for years. But you know, my 83 year old Dad can tell me stories about Soros way back in the day. We have survived so far…maybe we have ring side seats to the final good/evil battle.

    nowhere in the sermon does he say give all you have to the poor. Yes the kingdom is for the poor but it is also to the righteous. righteous people can have wealth. Most poor people have a harder time believing in god. They believe if there was a god he would provide more for them. My sister is poor like me and the difference is she is an athiest because god has not bestowed uponed her riches. I believe in god and hois son Jesus. My family of 5 people live on an income of 3400 a month. We embrace god and Jesus’s glory. we know we can depend on god for help. and we made not have a house(double-wide trailer), or a new car, we buy from good will and other second had store and all our shopping is done at dollar store and discounted stores. Jesus was talking to the poor to lift them up so they would not follow satan.that is what he was doing.

    Jesus did not say give everything you own to the poor. he also told the poor that they must help themselves. Also God says in the bible you can only help those so many times before they have to help themselves. Jesus said render what is ceasars ceasar and render what is god’s god. Not give all your riches to ceasar and have him distribute it out among the poor. Remember then story of the Good smaratain? It was the Smaratian who helped the beatened guy not the priest or the levite. Nowhere in the bible does it saying give all of you money or property away.     They say that a half truth is worse than a lie. You cannot solely reference God‘s desire for all to find freedom and general goodwill and omit God’s justice and forgiveness’ prerequisite: repentance. Speaking of full truth, even James recognizes that “the wisdom that comes from God is first of all pure, then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Even simple truth must pass the test or it becomes bias.

    I try very hard to get middle of the road liberals who may only be guilty of being naive and gullible to check out the stories on the blaze and listen to people like Glenn, Mark Levin,Hannity, and Rush (that’s a particularly hard sell with many of them…much like the Bush/Cheney syndrome)…and I really believe that some of them, when they start understanding the scope of the attack by the leftists, will start getting it.
    I pray that if they see a story like this and they have any belief system in God, they will read more with an open mind.
    It is so obvious to us, but so many people never hear anything other than the progressive propaganda being churned out by our “impartial media”.
    If each of us could awaken just one or two people…then maybe the fight will be a little easier.
    And if we can’t educate them…them maybe we should just play by their rules.

      Jesus also said that “the poor you will always have, but you will not always have me“ The word poor as in ”blessed are the poor, for they will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven” is better translated ‘blessed are the humble in pride’. Pride is a commodity that the liberal/atheist crowd has in abundance and is in fact the very thing that blinds their eyes.

      Yes, read Matthew 25:14-29 plus others re the “work ethic”, poor in spirit = humble. LOL – I heard the very same on Huffington Post libs – “Jesus was a liberal”. Well, I guess He did give “liberally”. The key word re all this giving to the poor is ….VOLUNTARY….nothing about it being taken without your permision (which = stealing) for them (Govnt) to decide what to do with it.       If God was a lefty, then the whole book of Exodus should be tossed out. God was angry with pharaoh(equlivalent to big government of today) who had enslaved(controlled) His people. He commanded they be set FREE so they could serve Him. Therefore, God is a proponent of liberty.

      Leftists have been attacking Christianity and Judaism for sometime and attempting to twist Biblical values. It’s laughable since they hate these two religions in particular BECAUSE they teach conservative values.

      The Bible ONLY ever speaks of people GIVING FREELY OF THEIR OWN ACCORD –

      So, how come you socialist democrat people are trying to stop the poor from inheriting the earth?

      The Bible is not a weapon, used selectively for people to FORCE others to “give unto caesar”, but God’s word.

      People should be ashamed for twisting God’s word for their own political purposes.

      The first one world government was under Nimrod, a Cushite, he was black. The people put thier trust in him to protect them from a future flood. They built the tower to go up into in case another flood was to come.It was also a landmark lest they venture too far away and spread out upon the face of the earth as GOD commanded them to do.They disobeyed the command and GOD changed their language to get them to spread out.Now we have Nimrod number two in office and he wants a one world government.GOD is going to stop this socialized system also.

      Think those of you who believe GOD is a socialist need to go back and read the entire context….the people voluntarily sold land and property to support the initial ministry of the apostles.
      Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Acts 5:4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
      We are supposed to be charitable and take care of the widows, orphans and needy….we are supposed to help people, but leave them with respect and dignity…which the government does not do!! We are not supposed to be taxed by the government and ABDICATE our duty to the needy. It does not work, as you can see from the mob violence starting up after 50 years of hand outs. GOD is MUCH smarter than we are and he knew it would not work…that is why he tells us it is OUR responsibility.

      Remember Jesus only fed those who sought His Words. He only fed those who followed Him. And they still had to work, because faith without works is dead. They did not rely on man made government but the kingdom of God. The one who became a traitor to Jesus was Judas Iscariot, the one who condemned Jesus for not selling the expensive perfume in order to feed the poor.

      Have you noticed that the largest, anti Jesus, anti Word of God, spirit of the anti Christ institution in the USA are the democrats? The democrats are aligned with union leadership, the ACLU, and others to remove the Bible and the history of Christianity from public discourse.

      Matthew 5, the “parable on the mount,” or the Beatitudes refer to the position of the FAITHFUL TO God NOT a person’s position “IN the world”! The “poor” are the “poor in spirit,“ those who ”mourn“ are those who ”mourn for their sins,“ and the ”meek” (in God) will “inherit the earth” when Jesus rules after the end times. Those who “hunger and search after righteousness” shall be filled with “righteousness,” and obviously, he was speaking to the faithful when he said, “Blessed are you when men shall revile you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my (Jesus/God’s) sake.” This is exactly the opposite from how liberals and progressive religious try to apply this text!

      Jesus also said, “You will have the poor with you always” and stressed a “heart after God’s own” rather than a heart after the world’s needs. We are to care about and for our neighbors, personally, but we are not to get inmeshed in the government‘s social action plans that are not directed to the rise of God’s Kingdom (”Thy kingdom come. . . “).

      If each understood the type of love that Jesus, God-on-earth, had for each of us, enough to lay down His life for you specifically and me specifically, we wouldn’t need government, we would be totally self-ruled and oriented toward righteousness have the Spirit of God, instead of the spirit of man!       Butterbean, Don’t complain about people misquoting and twisting Scripture and cite and twist Scripture yourself. “get behind me Satan.” was not spoken to Satan in the desert. It was spoken to Peter. Jesus had just told Peter, “that he was rock and upon this rock, I will build my Church.” Jesus then goes on to tell them that he (Jesus) must go to Jerusalem to suffer and die. Peter objects strenously, at which point Jesus tells Peter, “Get behind me Satan.”

      Just because people differ from you in how they approach their Christianity doesn’t mean they are evil. When Jesus talks about the last judgment, He says, “When I was hungry, you gave me to eat, when I was thirsty, you gave me to drink, when I was naked you clothed me…”

      The big disagreement comes as to whether that applies to just individuals, or governments as well. When you deal with the needs of impoverished people on a daily basis, money from large non-profits and the government can be very much desired. I cannot see the Council of Churches turning down money.

      I personally think, that it may shift some people’s dependence from God to the government, on the other hand paying for special education teachers and other supports for the handicapped and mentally disabled are hard to do without the economies of scale government brings.

      Our local Council of Churches are good folks.

      What I was pointing out was it does not have to be Satan himself but through his evil spirit he can influence man as he did with Peter. Read butchers next comment, he shows his true colors.

      Christianity is not a political party. God desired to be our King, but the people wanted and Earthly king and God relented. But explained the burdens that this king (government) would mean to the people.

      If someone thinks that giving all that money and power to a central government to take care of everyones needs is a good thing.,…….. How is that working? This un-holy system is broke

      But our Lord and Savior Yeshua Messiah (Jesus Christ) will be here soon to set things right again.

      BTW, Jesus was speaking of Himself as the Rock to build his church on.

      Sorry Butterbean, you are misquoting again. In Matthew 16: 13-20. Jesus asks all of his disciples first, “Who do people say that I am?” They give all sorts of wrong answers, then he asks them, “Who do you say that I am?” They give all sorts of wrong answers and then Peter says, “You are the Messiah, the son of the Living God.” Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And I say to YOU, YOU are Peter (which means rock) and upon this rock I will build my Church.” He is clearly speaking about Peter. Some people make a big out of the difference between “petra” and “Petros” they are the Greek masc and fem. for Rock. In John 1:42 you see Jesus call Peter , Cephas which is Aramaic for rock. He then talks about giving him the keys of the kingdom referencing Is 22:22.
      Isa 22:22 refers to a man who was not a king of Judah, but his “prime minister”. Prime ministers would rule the country in the king’s absence of with his authority. Joseph held such a position with Pharoah.

      Some food for thought.

      Matthew 16:18 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

      Now instead of calling Simon Bar-jone, Jesus has given him a new name, Peter. Peter means Rock. The Rock is the foundation that the church is built on; and that Rock is Jesus Christ. Jesus is telling Peter that it is on the Rock of Jesus Christ that His church is built, and even the gates, or powers of Hell, Satan and his systems can not prevail against Jesus Christ.

      Jesus Christ was foretold as the “foundation-stone” in Isaiah 28:16; “Therefore thus saith the Lord God, “Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.”

      Jesus is that corner stone, precious and tried, and those that know Him, will wait on Him, and His return at the appointed time, and not make haste to follow the fake that comes first. Jesus fulfilled the role to perfection, for He is the only begotten of the Father.

      There are many conflicts over this one verse, as one church states our church is built of Peter, who was the founder of our Church, which was true in the Smyrna and Philadelphia.       This is the same Rock from Deuteronomy 32:31 from the song of Moses.

      Deuteronomy 32:31 “For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.”

      Of course the small case “rock” is satan and all his little stones worn smooth over a long period of time.

      Revelation 13:18 “Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.”

      The point is is that those stones from the false rock are inching our gov’t closer to the one world beast system.

      “Poor in spirit” is in reference to the spirits of this world. There spirit is denying self, and given over to the Holy Spirit of God. Their spirit is part of, and in the kingdom of heaven. Blessed is better translated “happy”. From these beatitudes you will become very happy, if your are humble in spirit.

      5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

      To mourn is to not have a pity party for every negative thing that comes your way but to mourn for those that don’t have the truth.

      5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

      To be merciful is to show compassion. The Gov’t bankrolls a lot of sinful activity. Is that compassion. I say it is taking away our blessing.

      The heart or spirit the intellect of our soul. Our mind. Only God knows our hearts and if they are in the right place.

      Stand for what you believe in, let your yays be yays and your nays be nays. Be hot or cold but never lukewarm.

      It also says in the Bible that God helps those who help themselves…He does NOT exhort us to be FORCED to give all we work for to others through government intervention (Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar‘s and to God the things that are God’s!)

      God does not like those who lay around doing nothing expecting hard working folks to support them. Americans have been historically (and still are!) THE most charitable nation in the world….but with government taking more and more of our money, private charities will no longer be able to do as much….don‘t preach Bible if you can’t bother to do FOR YOURSELF!

      Jesus is not a lib. The BEATITUDES can not be turned so you can make a point that you would like others to believe. Good luck trying to get other people on this site to go along with you. The BEATITUDES is talking about the believers of Christ. Not the things of this world that you own or don’t own.
