BOSTON (The Blaze/AP) — State police say a Massachusetts man who tried to open an emergency door on a Delta flight from Orlando, Fla., to Boston has been arrested.
Logan International Airport spokesman Phil Orlandella says it’s unclear why 43-year-old Robert Hersey tried to open the door Tuesday night on the Airbus 320 out of Orlando International Airport.
Passengers say he had been drinking and appeared upset when the flight was late.
Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc. spokeswoman Susan Elliott says an off-duty police officer subdued the passenger.
Delta crew members called authorities in Boston to report the disorderly passenger aboard Flight 1102.
The incident comes just days after a Yemeni man on a San Francisco-bound flight stormed the cockpit door and banged on it while reportedly yelling “Allahu Akbar!”
Authorities say Hersey, of Arlington, was arrested by state police on a charge of interfering with a flight crew. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 2:08pmWhere are our sky marshalls when we need them? We need to install ejection tubes on all commercial aircraft for unruly passengers. Whenever some jerk gets out of hand, you shove him in and hit flush.
We also need to start profiling! Extra special TSA screening for all Bruins fans.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 2:03pmIf I’m on a plane and this happens, I swear I am going to beat the person over the head with anything I can grab. Perhaps TSA should think of ridding the plane of the food trays. Those are potential killers especially if stacked.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 1:42pmThey should have told everyone to fasten their safetly belts, allowed the man to open the door, and kicked him square in the middle of his back once he got it open. Then they could calmly close the door and return to normal flight without all this arraignment hassle.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 2:00pmBased on the type of plane, that would cause the engine to explode and kill everyone on the plane and ground where it crashed.
Glad to know you advocate murder.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 1:30pmI see a lot of suggestion here on how to treat offenders. Some may or may not work. But here is one that will: When some Muslim hot dog starts screaming Islamist chants on an airplane, the passengers should be encouraged to beat the crap out of them. Don‘t kill ’em, just beat the crap out of them. Then, brand the profile of a pig on their head.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 12:01pmIn a way it is too bad that the emergency doors weren’t part of some type of a pressure chamber where they open the cabin door, step in closing the door behind them, then open the door to the outside of the plane. That way if people wanted to do things like that, when flying over water or over unpopulated areas so that they wouldn’t actually land on someone else, they could let them. As a matter of fact, as soon as they opened the cabin door the crew could push them into the chamber, slam the cabin door, then the outer door opens automatically with the individual being sucked out of the plane. If that could happen my question is how long would that clown be able to yell “allah akbar” on the way down? Would the high altitude stop him immediately? Would he change his chant as soon as he realized what was happening to a high girlie scream? Or would be be cut off in mid allah when he splatted upon hitting the suffice? Just something I was wondering about.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 12:37pmHe’d be sucked straight into the jet engine causing it to explode and the plane to crash, killing everyone. Not a good idea to jump out in front of the engines, they suck in a lot of the nearby air.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 12:40pmI, too, was wondering why they didn’t put airlocks on airliners. That way, people cannot just open a door and depressurize the cabin. Make it so that both doors cannot be open at the same time.
Report Post »Not sure about throwing them from the airplane, but this would sure trap them until the plane lands.

FBI and airport police questioned the passenger. No charges have been filed.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 12:53pmThis story needs a LOT more information. What stage of the flight did he try to open the door? Were they on the ground? If they had already landed and he was impatient to get off the plane then this story takes on a very different tone than the Yemeni who tried to break into the cockpit while in flight.

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 3:32pmNo doubt there have been incidents like this in the past, but the valid fear about radical Muslims disrupting a flight brings it all to light. I think there should be armed air marshalls on all flights (not just some) to monitor the passengers. Travelers better be alert and ready to jump into defensive mode at all times.
