Another Oil Rig Explosion

USA Today has the story:

An oil rig has exploded in the Gulf of Louisiana, WDSU reports. Thirteen workers aboard the rig were reportedly thrown into the water, but have been accounted for. One person is reported injured.

More from The Hill.

UPDATE:

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs commented on the explosion during today’s press briefing. Via Politico:

The oil rig off the Louisiana coast that reported a fire is “not a deepwater facility” and “was not in active production,” Gibbs said. “We will continue to gather information as we respond,” he said, adding that he didn’t know if Obama, who was in a Situation Room meeting when the news broke, had been told.

With my tinfoil hat firmly in place, I refuse to believe that this or the first one were accidents and the Administration will not now, or in the future call this terrorist attack. Remember the Administrations mantra – “Never let a crisis go to waste.” It just has to last long enough to sway the electorate.

At some point, there is no reason to wait for a crisis. Why not enlist one of the many admistration greenies to informally “plant the idea” in the heads of one of their many radical enviro-fascists friends at ELF et al and just let them know about a vulnerable rig. (if the administration is doing a safety survey of all the rigs, wouldn’t they know the most vulnerable and the known problem areas)
Then all the admistration needs to do is play Sgt. Shultz (I know nothing).

Radical enviromentalists can carry a lot of the burden inre to drilling offshore and the risks involved. Too many laws/rules/regulations have been enacted to prevent the exploration and developement of resources in Alaska, Colorado and other protected lands. If an oil rig explosion occurs on land, resulting in an oil spill, it’s a lot easier to clean up and curtail damages to the enviroment.

Sort of suspicious that another rig blew up. Either it is from BP doing what they did on the other rig or else sabotage would be another guess. Is it not weird that 2 rigs blew in the matter of months and I have not heard of anything like this ever. I would guess it has been over 5 years since the last explosion.

A nearly perfect 40 year safety record and now two rigs explode within less than 9 months. Yeah, I’m going to buy that. They needed a reason to extend the drilling moratorium and now they have one. Imagine the odds of that one happening. The standard conspiracy theory thinking is starting to seem more like logical thinking with this crooked administration!

I wonder, when were the rigs set up? I mean, maybe… just maybe… maybe it’s like a couple people buy a new car in the same year. Maybe it’s the same kind of car, maybe they have the same driving habits and put roughly the same mileage on the cars, and maybe by some crazy coincidence they have the same bad part or just wear out at the same pace and break down at nearly the same time. Do I believe it? Not really. But, is it possible? Maybe. Have we seen a real report on the cause of the problems for each to compare? Maybe someone should check…

I see a lot of people feel as I do. Statistics just don’t seem to support another random accident. The first time with BP’s safety track record is believable, but a second just a few months later and in the same area. Sorry, I don’t buy it.

Perhaps the BP accident was just greed and/or very bad judgment. (I make repair decisions every day designing aircraft repairs and have seem a lot more of the company/corporate “bean counters” try to influence my decisions unsuccessfully these days) When they changed the mud to save money, the pressure and the amount of natural gas combined to create a perfect storm.

In this new situation, my guess would be someone or a group of someone’s decided another rig event in the Gulf would accomplish what was not accomplished by Obozo’s unsuccessful drilling moratorium that was overturned twice by the courts.
