Another ‘Oops’? Perry Names Three Departments He’d Cut…Just Not the Same Ones

Rick Perry struggled for 53 seconds to try to remember the third federal agency he would cut as president during a GOP presidential debate in Novemeber. (AP)
Rick Perry on Friday readily named three federal departments he’d eliminate as president — they just weren’t the same ones he listed during his now-infamous “oops” debate moment.
Asked during a radio interview which departments he would cut, the Texas governor either forgot the third or added a fourth.
“Three right off the bat, you know, commerce, interior and energy are three that you think,” Perry said on WTKS radio in Savannah, Ga., ABC News reported.
He made no mention of the Department of Education, an agency he frequently names on the stump, until the host asked him if he’d axe that one as well.
“Well, your common sense tells you that the citizens of South Carolina, your governor, the legislature, your school administrators and school board, parents, teachers know substantially better how to educate your children in South Carolina than some bureaucrat in Washington, D.C.,” Perry said, according to the National Journal.
During the debate in November, Perry named the Commerce and Education departments, forgetting the Department of Energy and struggling onstage for nearly a minute.
Asked Friday whether Perry meant to include the Department of the Interior in his radio answer, spokesman Mark Miner told reporters after the show: “It shouldn’t be surprising the governor’s talking about another agency that needs to be looked at and cut.”
“He’s serious when he talks about reforming Washington and going there,” Miner said.

Posted on January 13, 2012 at 2:35pmYou what is stupid about Ron Paul, he once said if he was president during WW II, he would not send American into the Europe to fight the Nazi’s. This guy is so anti jew he would let them die by the millions and not help. Perry has the best record in his race, and like Reagan people call him dumb, he does 50 different things in a day, and he adds a agencies and sites like this pounce. They want big government Republicans like Newt and Santorum, but not a real conservative who supports Israel. look at Santorums voting record, and my God Newt, really. Paul votes against earmarks but adds them to his state. Perry at least has built a state that is great to have Beck chose it as home. Now is the time to send congress home, not make for speakers het beat by Obama.

Posted on January 13, 2012 at 6:57pmJudge says Perry will likely prevail in Va. ballot challenge
By EMILY SCHULTHEIS
1/10/12
A federal judge in Virginia said today that he will issue a decision soon on Rick Perry‘s challenge to the state’s ballot access laws — and that the Texas governor is likely to prevail:
[T]here is a strong likelihood that the Court will find the residency requirement for petition circulators to be unconstitutional. The authorities make clear that circulating petitions for candidates is a form of protected speech, and that the Commonwealth has a heavy burden to justify the restriction on speech by showing not only that the limitation achieves a valid state interest but also that the limitation is no broader in scope than necessary to achieve that purpose. As in all strict scrutiny cases, the state has a difficult task to demonstrate the propriety of its limitation on protected speech. For this reason, the Court believes that the plaintiffs have a substantial likelihood of succeeding on the merits, at least on the issue of the validity of the residency requirement.
The judge also ordered the Virginia State Board of Elections to hold off printing ballots until the issue is resolved.

Newt? Newt is your second choice. He is a globalist. He will slowly push us to a world government. You say Ron Paul knows the economy and you are correct. Perry did take alot of his economic plan from Ron Paul. Where the two greatly differ is foreign affairs. I will ask it plainly here, would we have been in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afhganistan, and have 900 bases in 130 countries if the founding fathers were in charge right now?
Here is why I dont worry about bases around the world. We have the only real navy in the world. Our ships are so advanced the carrier battle groups are practically unhittable. International water starts from about 6 nautical miles out. Therefore we can park out carriers, destroyers, and cruisers 6 miles off any coast and hit practically every where in the world. Either with planes or cruise missiles. We have either 10 or 11 of these groups. There is no need for us to risk bases, troops, and equipment putting them on land. They cannot hit our navy or our air power.
A by product of not putting bases on the ground is you dont rebuild the country. You drop your payload and leave. Therefore, a country and did cause us to “declare war’ would then know, there is no reconstruction, bags of rice, candy bars, big new embassy, or hospitals about to be built by American tax dollars.
The old style wars are over. A billion Chinamen can be slaughtered with missiles and drones controlled from a bunker in Virginia. Who needs ba

Posted on January 13, 2012 at 11:44pmI’m tired of this idiotic line that newt and perry are engaging in the same class warfare as Obama. They are not criticizing Romney for having a few businesses fail and losing jobs. They are criticizing the fact that with some of these businesses Romney and his group still made profits while shutting the company down and laying off the workers. It’s one thing to have a failing business it is quite another to line your pockets while the business fails. I‘m tired of the way the media is framing it as the same thing instead of doing any actual investigating to see if it’s true or not.
As far as Obama and Ron Paul they both want Gingrich and Santorum out of the race asap. RP wants to run against just Romney cause that’s the only way he has anything resembling a shot at the nomination. Then even if Romney wins he may just run as a third party and screw us over that way. Meanwhile, Obama is salivating about running against the stereotypical politician in Romney. You want to know who Mitt Romney is? Take a fast and loose car salesman who will say anything to get you driving off the lot in something new, and smash it together with a TV commercial, ambulance chasing, and early settlement lawyer. Anyone other than the few “true believers” in Romney have to admit this is the truth.
And in all honesty I am wondering more and more about RP. His actions say that all he wants is another Obama Presidency. He is a weak, gloriously deluded, and hypocritical little

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the Citizen Legislators Act filed today by Illinois Congressman Timothy V. Johnson.
“I applaud Rep. Johnson for filing legislation to create a part-time, citizen congress that will restore the vision of our founding fathers. This bill aligns closely with my Uproot and Overhaul Washington plan, which calls for cutting congressional sessions, staffs and salaries in half.
“I support Rep. Johnson’s legislation because I believe members of Congress should spend less time in Washington and more time living at home under the laws they pass with the people they represent.
“Americans are tired of Washington politicians who are out of touch, spend all their time inside the beltway, and whose reckless spending and corrupt practices are endangering our great nation. It is time to send these politicians back home to get real jobs rather than spending all their time in Washington spending money we don’t have on programs we don’t need.

“Rick Perry I think has one of the best if not the best plans. He’s got a ‘Cut, Balance and Grow’ plan where he wants to institute a Balanced Budget Amendment and cap spending at 18 percent, and then he wants to cut taxes all over the place that would just really be a pro-growth boon. It’d be eliminating capital gains, lowering corporate tax rates and personal tax rates down to 20 percent. Very, very strong plan.”
Mr. Roth was also critical of Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney’s economic records and plans:
“With Santorum… if you looked at his record when he was in the Senate, he was a prolific earmarker , he supported adding trillions to Medicare, so it’s just not believable.”
“Newt Gingrich is kind of in the Santorum camp… his track record is just very, very weak. You know, he supported Medicare Part D, which expanded entitlements in a huge way, he supported cap and trade with Hillary Clinton, the list goes on and on…”
“Mitt Romney… actually deserves to be in last place on this because it’s very uninspired ideas that he has. He barely wants to tinker around with the tax code and he wants to lower spending to 20 percent of GDP from its current 24 percent. ”

Posted on January 13, 2012 at 2:27pmjust moved to TX 6 months ago…the residents here, even those that voted for him, don’t have a high opinion of his job performance. typical example of the lesser of two evils or a straight party line vote… and nobody of any quality runs against him for the GOP…
he is a tool..an absolute tool…and once you learn how Texas government works…you realise that the governor here has little to no duties other than signing bills into law and being the public spokeshole for the government decisions… the Lt. Gov runs the day to day operation of the State agencies.
Sort of like Great Britian…the Queen is still the figure head of the government but the Prime Minister runs it…the Queen can make appearances and initiate policy or law..but that is about it….it falls to the legislature and PM to make it work and handle the specifics…
Perry can take credit for all he likes in TX but it was those that came before him and the whole system in TX that is the reason…and while growing and having a positive job growth…90% of those jobs are at or below the Fed poverty line…because they are farm worker, migrant worker, or service oriented like waiters/waitress which only get paid $2.13/hr in TX plus tips.
i took a 28% pay cut to move here but I know that if the country goes under.. TX will be one of the last to fall..unlike CA which will be one of the first…

Posted on January 13, 2012 at 5:03pmGov Perry didn’t tell anyone but he had back surgery in July and started a campaign for President in Aug. He never complained or made excuses he showed up for those debates and stood on those stages in pain for 2 hours. To ME…that is NOT a weak person THAT is a person with STRENGTH.

Posted on January 13, 2012 at 2:00pmTrue. Look in Article 1, Section 8, and elsewhere in the Constitution, and you might find justification for only about 3 or 4 of the hundreds or thousands of agencies.
Interestingly enough, small parts of Commerce do pass muster. The Constitution explicitly mentions patents and copyrights (though not trademarks) as well as weights and measures, so the Patent office and NIST (formerly NBS) are among the very few constitutional agencies.

Report Post »Clara88
Posted on January 13, 2012 at 5:26pmWRONG…NOT on Perry’s payroll.
I love my country and out of the few we have to choose from Perry is the one who REALLY is a Washington outsider. It really shows during the debates too. Everyone else on the stage has grudges and attacks each other…because they ALL are Washington insiders. Like…Gov Perry says…if Washington IS the problem then WHY trust all of those who have been working IN Washington to FIX the problem?? I agree. We need NEW BLOOD in Washington and THAT is Gov Rick Perry
Report Post »jeffyg
Posted on January 13, 2012 at 1:26pmIt’s ok. We can cut those 3 as well. Perry is right on with both statements.
Perry is by far the best on the second amendment. And the part-time congress idea scores a lot of points!
Report Post »West Coast Patriot
Posted on January 13, 2012 at 2:10pm@ Jeff, I think, Perry gets a bad rap and think he is just trying to follow a little bit in Ron Pauls footsteps and that is why he forgets. I believe that Perry would be so much better than Romney, Santorum or Gingrich, but the best of the bunch is Ron Paul. As far as ratings on the 2nd amendment, Perry has an “A” but Paul has an “A+” therefore Paul is the best, but go figure since he is the most in tune to the Constitution. Santorum B-, Gingrich C and Romney D-. http://gunowners.org/2012presidential.htm
I hope that when deciding the next POTUS that people take the 2nd amendment issue seriously. We already have lost part of the 4th and 5th amendment rights from The Patriot Act and NDAA. If we lose more 2nd amendment rights, how will we, as citizens, be able to be a force against a takeover of our freedoms? They are trying to make the Constitution irrelevent and have succeeded in many ways.

Posted on January 13, 2012 at 1:58pmEnd the Federal Reserve By printing our OWN U.S. Treasury dollars based on Gold, Silver, titanium, Platinum, etc.
Quit the U.N. and tell the World Court in Hauge, that the UM and IMF DO NOT own us under a International U.C.C. Lein.
And if so….. This is Brilliant…..
WE the American PEOPLE ask the IMF what we owe, to absolve the Bankruptcy of 1933, and free ourselves once again.
If they say we owe them 400 trillion dollars. We simply print up 400 Trillion in worthless, Based on nothing Federal Reserve Notes, exactly like they do, to pay off our debt.
Then we never use those notes again.
Think I am kidding about the Social Security Card being a Bond for the Receivers of the bankruptcy?

Report Post »You are a Moron.
You know nothing of blowback. It actually means repercussions that occured due to classified operations that the PUBLIC had no idea about !!!!!
911 was payback for American Occupation in Saudia Arabia.
The CIA trained, Financed and Armed Al Qaeda to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan.
Rumsfeld and the U.S. Government were allies to Iraq and Hussein and supplied Iraq with weapons and money, right before we turned on them.
The Global Elite own the UN and NATO, and the Global Elite’s financial sectors make Money from wars and money from rebuilding war-torn countries.
You are of the Mind set that we are the World’s SUPERPOWER and we are obligated to be “freedom fighters” and “spead democracy abroad”. You are a NEOCON.
Let’s be glad China is not the Superpower. It would be their “Obligation” to Spread Communism.
Think that sniper that picked-off over 1000 “insurgents” in IRAQ killed 1 Taliban,1 Al Qaeda or any person who was a direct threat against America ???
I say 0 of the 1000 he picked off from 1000 were a threat.
The only threat to America are NEOCONS !!!!

Posted on January 13, 2012 at 4:55pm@Problemsolver…
um…you didn’t watch GBTV a while back did ya when Glenn had David (what’s his name) on talking about the economy and how bad it really was….there is NO way we could EVER go back onto a Gold/Silver standard….there isn’t enough gold on the planet to account for all the dollars floating around in all the banks of the world…
you would be looking at multiplying the price of EVERY good and service by a factor of 10-100X overnight….
if you look at history…even when we were on the gold standard, this was already taking place.. instead of having a gold or silver note which a bank had to give you an amount of gold or silver for upon your request, we had transitioned to a gold-backed reserve note. the Treasury Department knew that not everyone would ask for the gold or silver at the same time so they created a derivative market basically where they issued 4-5 times as many notes as there was stored gold. over time and issuing more and more notes…recalling all the notes or paying out the gold became physically impossible…
enter the FED system…and poof…now since the Treasury couldn’t create more gold derivatives, they decided to back the currency off of “the full faith and credit of the United States of America” which basically means the back of the taxpayer.
saying “return to a gold standard” is good and nice and all but it would crash the economy in the short term (decade or so) …you can’t just revert..it has to be staged in ov
