Another Romney Gaffe?: ‘I’ve Got a Lot of Good Friends‘ Who Are NFL ’Team Owners’

Attacks on Mitt Romney for his social class may be unfair. However, his critics would suggest that some of his conversations beg for those attacks to come. In the most recent iteration of this problem, Romney took to the Paul Finebaum Radio Network to discuss the Peyton Manning free agent sweepstakes. Romney is a strong Patriots fan, and made as much clear on the program. Unfortunately, he also did some awkward name dropping that will remind people of his previous NASCAR gaffe:

Here‘s the relevant part of Romney’s quote:

I’ve got a lot of good friends, the owner Miami Dolphins, and the New York Jets — both owners are friends of mine. But let’s keep him away from New England, so Tom Brady has a better chance of picking up a championship.

And this is what he said about NASCAR team owners, per the Huffington Post:

Asked Sunday if he follows racing Romney replied, “Not as closely as some of the most ardent fans, but I have some friends who are NASCAR team owners.”

Is Romney really out of touch, or does the media just like to obsess over his rich friends too much? Weigh in below.

WHO CARES!!! Our current president is friends with some pretty rich people too. Umm let me see Tom Hanks, Warren Buffet. I don’t see that making news. Really a lot of NFL owners are conservative anyway so why should be worrying about it. I don’t know if anyone has checked the gas prices but I have. And it is affecting my life big time. I am more worried about how I am going to pay for groceries and a bad tooth then what Romney is saying. I want a successful person being our president. And I want some one that is friends with people that actually help produce jobs, and are good people. I don’t know maybe i am missing something here. But I can’t remember when I saw a NASCAR owner or NFL owner calling others unamerican. Stop nitpicking and start working on solutions. There is no way our candidate is going to win if we keep doing this. As far as I see it is seems like the conservatives want Obama to win and so does the rest of the US. ABC poll over half of the us thinks Obama is going to win. Now that is something I want to know how we can stop. Not this.

I agree. How is it a “gaffe” if Romney is telling you the truth??? Beck drops names all the time and no one accuses him of committing a gaffe. I think the whole negative AND downright petty view of Romney on THE BLAZE has more to do with Beck’s SANTORUM PAC.

He is a wealthy business owner. Why is it a gaffe to know other wealthy business owners? He is not a wealthy, retired lineman from the New England Patriots or retired race car driver. Nor a retired union plumber. Our President is an ex community rabble rouser (man of the people). Now he is demagogue and chief of the U.S.

You have to understand, this has nothing to do with some conservatives not liking that he’s rich (if I’m not mistaken, pretty much all the candidates are “rich”) but everything to do with him being Mormon. Just look at this thread! Most of the attacks have to do with his ‘weird“ or ”unchristian” beliefs, and nothing to do with the topic.

It’s not WHO his friends are-
it’s how Willard chooses to drop names left & right, without thinking.
      NoBODY gives a flying fig,
      who‘s on Willard’s “Friends” list-
however, we should care, how many of those “friends” have Wall St. addresses
      & records prove, they do.

“Kid Rock” gets behind “Kid Romney”-
do you really believe Willard has ANYTHING in common with Kid Rock,
other than, the Detroit, MI ties ?

Willard boasts about Ted Nugent’s support-
How many Nugent concerts did the robotic Romney family attend ?

Love Ted, but he originally supported Perry-
      Perry, now supports Newt.
Doesn’t it make sense, to back the candidate, your original candidate is backing ?

      Same with Cain fans-
he supports Newt & yet, some aboard the Cain train, have transferred to the Willard connection.

Something is just so pretentious about all of that-
      follow your original candidate’s intent,
don’t jump on the bandwagon, because the biased polls, tell you to.
      Where is your conviction ?

Romney went bombastically NEGATIVE on Perry, Cain, Gingrich & Santorum.
It’s on record, he threw the FIRST, nasty punches.
Now, all those, who lack stamina, go with the political flow.

Willard will lose to Obama, then, all of you will cower & complain.
      Grow a pair, America-
Palin is for Newt and strong, wise LEADERSHIP,
listen to her & your heart & gut & get Gingrich nominated.

Willard wants the title, Gingrich wants the job !

I could care less who he knows, what he owns or how much he has as long as he can get our country out of debt. He’s wealthy, so what. He‘s successful which means he knows what he’s doing. What difference does it make that he doesn’t talk like the common man? Do we really want someone who is struggling with their own finances? He is not going to be perfect but then who is?

      Thanks for posting that link-
      it proves that “Sanctimonious Santorum”
is FOOLING no one, but himself, he’s as slimy, as Romney.

      America, BETTER wake up !
      Follow the Liberal breadcrumbs-
Obama has been quiet, as a Marxist mouse, regarding Gingrich.
Palin gives Gingrich, her confident nod, without “showboating”,
& tells America, she voted for Gingrich, last week in Alaska.

Now, just yesterday, Obama’s video, excoriating Palin is unleashed,
narrated by Commie-Tommy Hanks, who also PRODUCED the HBO Palin trash film.

Sarah’s strength is UNDENIABLE, her word is golden.
Even if she isn’t running, she can connect with the American people
& together, assume the coveted role of “Kingmaker”.
Obama, Romney, the RNC & Santorum know, she holds that power.

Gingrich is working, like a busy bee with Sarah’s blessing.
We need her, to start visibly, campaigning for Newt.
He’s the ONLY one who can beat Obama,
but in order to do that…he MUST be nominated !

America, there is NO way, you can be for Sarah & not back Newt-
he is HER guy, he is OUR guy.

      As far as Hanks goes,
he actually made THIS statement about Obama, “He’s a GREAT president” !
      Really ?
Look around, your boy-king is a miserable failure.
Say, he’s a great father or husband, but don’t DELUDE yourself, Producer Tom.

Roles of soldiers & astronauts, once, endeared you to America-
Time for America to write you, out of OUR script !

We are a peaceful people; we are a charitable people; we are a patriotic people – just like the Seventh Day Adventists I know, just like the Catholics I know, just like the Baptists I know, just like the Jewish people I know.

How about we all COMBINE our similar values to do some good in the world (just like with Prop 8 in Cali)? How about we agree to disagree on some theological issues and work TOGETHER to restore our great country to its founding roots? How about we work side by side as patriotic AMERICANS?

Stop apologizing and stop being fake. It is very unbecoming and it makes him into a liar.

I am extremely happy that he has acquired wealth and from all accounts he has done good with his money. He gives to charity and he seems devoted to his church and his family. However he has to lie and try to look like someone he is not, because he is an insider who will work to maintain the status quo. NEVER voted for an Earmark, NEVER voted to raise the debt ceiling, NEVER voted for a Congressional pay raise, NEVER voted to raise taxes, NEVER voted against your gun rights, and is the ONLY Congressmen to RELIGIOUSLY follow the Constitution as a WHOLE…not just the convienant parts.

RepubliCorp Oh…you must be talking about Delegates. You do know that for the most part, most Delegates are unbound don’t you? The Straw Polls are nothing more than a beauty contest. Straw polls are almost irrelevant…what is relevant is who’s smart enough to stick around AFTER the fictitious straw poll to become a DELEGATE.

I am ONE of those people. I am currently a DELEGATE in Colorado…we won’t know which Delegates support who till AFTER April 14th or so. DELEGATES are UNBOUND, the media is deceiving you. There is NO Delegate count because NOBODY KNOWS (the trouble I’ve seen). WAKE UP. NO DELEGATE COUNT, NO ONE CAN COUNT DELEGATES YET.

You know what? I’d rather have Romney saying things like this, than a guy who kicked off his campaign for Senate at Bill Ayer’s house, Sat in Rearend Wright’s Church for years upon years, say’s our law enforcement acts stupidly and a list that goes on and on to present. The guy’s rich and swims in a different pond than most of us do. Tough. I don’t want a guy I can have a beer with… I want a guy who is going to pull us out the gutter Obama has put us in. This is no endorement for Romney, but I may have to vote for him in the end and will support him against Obama.

      Obama and Romney support Romneycare
Obama and Romney support going to war with Iran
      Obama and Romney support NDAA
Both candidates are financially supported by Goldman sachs

It’s only a “gaffe” to people who hate the rich and hate people who are a success.

That being said, Romney needs to stop talking about his friends. He’s trying to win an election, and the media will pounce on everything he says, especially any talk of rich friends.

Maybe he needs a new speech coach or something.

So what if Mitt knows a few owners of NFL or NASCAR teams! These are the guys that can use their wealth to create jobs and make our country more productive without depending on a government handout. Since when was wealth so despised ? If we are discouraged by the U.S. government due to over taxation and excess regulation to be entrepreneurs and if we aren’t encouraged to be successful and create new jobs and opportunities for others, then where will the ideas, company’s and jobs go? Overseas? We need to encourage companies to stay here in the U.S. through lower taxes, less regulation and to quit disparaging those who have become successful. We should encourage success and achievement not disparage it and encourage regulation that will attract corporate re-patriotism and bring the money home. Incentives need to be created to keep innovation and manufacturing here in the U.S., thus increasing employment opportunities for the betterment of all.

It isn’t the fact that Romney has money that makes people feel uneasy, it’s the silver spoon hanging out of his mouth. In other words, it is great that he has money but the fact that Romney has always had money makes a person wonder if he could ever understand how an average person lives. Someone that started from the bottom and rose to the top actually understands what it is like to have to budget their money and everyday expenses.

The comments (gaffes) that Romney constantly makes, is a window into how he thinks. Romney would be a detached president. Just like now, he could never relate to the average Joe. He doesn’t have the life experience to do so.
