Another War? U.S. Pushing for U.N. Resolution in Libya

Another War? U.S. Pushing for U.N. Resolution in LibyaAs reports surfaced Thursday that Moammar Gadhafi used bombers to attack a rebel stronghold in Tobruk, it looks like U.N.-sanctioned air strikes in response are not out of the question.

According to reports by both the Associated Press and Reuters, The U.S. is pushing for a U.N. resolution against Libya that could authorize a variety of military actions, including the use of planes and ground troops.

“Gadhafi’s rapid advance on the rebels appears to have spurred the United States to leave behind weeks of doubts about a no-fly zone in Libya, and start advocating for broader U.N. authorization for international air, sea and land forces,” the Associated Press reports. “The Obama administration and other supporters of action against Gadhafi were pushing for a Thursday vote on a draft resolution. Russia and China have expressed doubts about the U.N. and other outside powers getting involved.”

“We are discussing very seriously and leading efforts in the [U.N. Security] Council around a range of actions that we believe could be effective in protecting civilians,” U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice told Reuters in New York. “The U.S. view is that we need to be prepared to contemplate steps that include but perhaps go beyond a no-fly zone.”

Another War? U.S. Pushing for U.N. Resolution in Libya

Sec. of State Hillary Clinton said she hoped the Security Council would vote on action “no later than Thursday.”

Libyan rebels shot down at least two bomber planes that attacked the airport in their main stronghold on Thursday, according to residents who witnessed the rare success in the struggle against Moammar Gadhafi’s superior air power.

The rebels used three of their own seized planes and some helicopters to attack government troops fighting to advance on the city of Benghazi, said Mustafa Gheriani, a spokesman in the rebel base.

The rebels were unable, however, to keep Gadhafi forces from surrounding Ajdabiya, the last major city between Gadhafi’s forces and Benghazi 100 miles to the north, rebels and residents said. The opposition said it was hoping for help from the U.N. Security Council before government troops move in.

A senior hospital official told The Associated Press that 30 people had been killed and at least 80 wounded in fighting in and around Ajdabiya since Tuesday night. Many more of the injured couldn’t reach the hospital, according to the official there, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of official retaliation.

Libya’s armed forces told Benghazi residents in a scrolling message on state television that, “We are on the edges of the city and we are coming to help you and to cleanse your city of the armed gangs.”

We have two other wars where the people we supposedly liberated do just that (and even moreso after being liberated). It’d be a nice trifecta.

Just because THE AMERICAN PEOPLE VOTED IN A COMMUNIST PRESIDENT or allowed A MINORITY to do so doesn’t mean that the leader of LYBIA[ or any other country] should allow the same to happen to HIS COUNTRY. I am glad HE [MOHAMMAR GADHAFI] is refusing to give up HIS COUNTRY. I refuse to give up my country and some of you better decide to do the same thing. You don’t see a reason why neither of those two countries should, at this time, be expected to perform military operations? Even Israel enacting a no-fly zone would be more realistic and might actually help the country finally gain some friends in the middle east.

Spot on. For example, as one of the Wikileaks documents revealed, those two-faced Arab countries have been SECRETLY begging the U.S. to denuke Iran, while officially warning that an attack on Iran by Israel would ignite an all-out war in the ME.

Something to think about: We (the US, because when the POTUS speaks for better or worse it is US) encouraged an uprising in Egypt, which led to ones in Bahrain and Libya, et. al. However, these two are being resisted by the governments, one Qaddafi deserves to go. However, has anyone bothered to think what Saudi Arabia will say if we lead this attack? What happens when their oil fields get attacks or the majority rise up against the prince there and he stomps on them? Which he will, because it is his troops in Bahrain doing the crowd control. Have we just been duped into a no win situation? We should just do as Jefferson suggested and stay out of foreign affairs, because like all affairs, they just screw up a good thing.

Libyan rebellion has Islamic supremacist flavor
      http://www.jihadwatch.org/2011/03/libyan-rebellion-has-islamic-supremacist-flavor.html

“Well known to the United States policymakers in Obama White House and Clinton State Department along with the National Security Council but not widely known to American mainstream media, the U.S. West Point Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Center document reveals that Libya sent more fighters to Iraq’s Islamic militancy on a per-capita basis than any other Muslim country, including Saudi Arabia.”

““Libyans were more fired up to travel to Iraq to kill Americans than anyone else in the Arabic-speaking world,” Andrew Exum, a counterinsurgency specialist and former Army Ranger noted in a blog posting recently. “This might explain why those rebels from Libya’s eastern provinces are not too excited about U.S. military intervention. It might also give some pause to those in the United States so eager to arm Libya’s rebels.””

““The Obama administration and other supporters of action against Gadhafi were pushing for a Thursday vote on a draft resolution.”
      —————————————————
Look folks, this is all BS. Obama is taking a calculated chance that Qadhaffi will have the uprising squashed by the time they can actually do anything about a no-fly zone. He knows that all they now have to do is stall for a few more days and tens of thousands of Libyans will be dead and buried. Then Obam can just continue with his very important vacation. But now he can claim to all Veterans, Republicans, etc, that he was tough on Qadhaffi. It’s all play-acting!

Who do you want to run for POTUS in 2012?

While I truly feel for those in Libya and their uprising, the U.S. is simply in no position to open up a third war, and it will become one, and the blame will be laid at our feet.

If you don’t comply, we will bring in alot of folks in blue helmets, and hide indoors within various compounds around your nation until you stop.

That ought to do the trick… if we were dealing with Mr. Rogers or Kermit the Frog.

“The U.S. is pushing for a U.N. resolution against Libya that could authorize a variety of military actions”

U.N Resolution? U.N Resolution? Reagan didn‘t need no stinkin’ U.N Resolution!

Anyhow, there isn‘t a compelling national interest for attacking Jeremia Wright’s good buddy Muhammar.
