Another Young Mom Arrested for Duct-Taping Baby

A 21-year-old Pennsylvania mother is being charged with child endangerment after gagging and binding her two-year-old daughter with duct tape.

Caira Ferguson was using photos to try and prove her identity had been stolen when she showed authorities a picture of herself posing next to the bound toddler.

According to Chester Township Police, Ferguson also posted the horrific image on the internet. The photo shows Ferguson’s diapered child tied to a blue plastic chair with duct tape around her arms, legs, chest and mouth.

Police were searching Ferguson’s home Wednesday because of outstanding warrants when they discovered the plastic chair with shreds of duct tape still stuck to it. The young mother was arrested shortly afterward.

In addition to child endangerment charges, prosecutors are also seeking false imprisonment and unlawful restraint charges.

As she was escorted from the courthouse Thursday, Ferguson told a local NBC affiliate that she was innocent. “I did not duct tape my daughter,” she said.

Ferguson’s father, Ira Ferguson, insists that his daughter is not abusive.  “My daughter is a very loving daughter, very loving mother, very loving friend to me and all her family,” he said.

Ferguson is currently being held without bail, and her daughter is in the custody of child welfare officers.

Last October, a teen mom and her boyfriend were arrested in Nebraska for child abuse after carrying out a similar scheme, affixing their 22-month-old child to a wall with duct tape. Both spent time in jail for the offense.

    It is terrible… she should go to jail. I’d like more details though…. my 3 yr old daughter would think it fun for about 30 seconds…. so was this a photo op for Facebook or a 3 hour punishment?.

    Either way she should go to jail. For how long however should be determined because of facts and legal discovery

    I got mixed feelings about this African American moment, on her behalf, didn’t Amercian Indians strap thier babies (papoose) to a board when they were toodlers? So where were was social justice then. Oh wait a minute they drove and scattered those Indians didn’t they? Now the gaggings a diffrent story. Just sayin..

      Try binging (I know google is evil now) LaShuan Harris’ , see what that womans reason for killing her kids was. and it was in 2006, so… does that mean that it was Bush’s fault under your rational?

    I used to make a stupid joke that the best baby sitters are rope and duct tape. I never in my wildest imagination thought anyone would do such a thing. It was a joke, something so absurdly outrageous that it gets a laugh. It’s not so funny anymore.

    They need to serve prison time – have their children taken away.

    A 23-year-old just had her request for a new trial – granted by a judge – after she was convicted of 1st degree murder – for throwing her newborn in Lake Ponchartrain – after hiding her pregnancy.

    The people at the lake – who saw her do it – were mortified – and tried to save the newborn – but they could not get to the baby in time enough – and it drowned.

    Reports were that she just drove up in her car, jumped out w the newborn – bundled up – and threw it in the lake.

    Five days before she was to be sentenced to life in prison, the judge decided to throw out the trial.

    People are outraged – bc she could have abandoned the baby at a hospital, church or fire station – instead of killing it.

    Her lawyer now claims that the baby was still-born – and she did not murder the baby – just disposed of a stillborn…….expecting everyone to forget that she admitted that she felt its heart beating – but did not want the baby – and that was why she stated she had thrown it in the lake.

    I hope her lawyer – and his client as a worthless pos – burn in hell.

    Everyone is claiming that the judge should recuse himself – since he does not have the courage – or the political fortitude – to sentence her – after an expensive trial by jury…………w a forensic expert proving that the cause of death was drowning = water in the lungs! .

    New trial is questionable…..since she is headed toward getting a very light sentence…….LYING about killing her baby.

    And to think this freak of nature will be on the streets – again – is maddening.

    Her family and church even have people working the phones for the talk shows – to get people to understand that she came from a very strict church-going family – and is the reason why she hid her pregnancy.

    Hiding a pregancy and drowning her newborn – has gained no sympathy.

    People brought up the fact that her booking photo – with a big smile on her face – indicates she was enjoying the attention.

    you’ll have some group of feminists take up for her and want for everyone to “understand” that she was stressed because “baby-mama-daddy” wasn’t in the picture and therefore all men should be held to account for the evils brought about by “enlightened ” liberals.
    remember….no death penalty for rapists and murderers…. but abortion on demand, even to the 9th month… because thats how “civalized” “well educated” democraps think it should be.

    At least the baby was only duct taped. Obama supporters like Caira here often do far worse to their children then just bind them. For example placing kids in microwaves, apparently is such a prevelant thing that the cops have a term for it…. “Ghetto Lobster”. Unfortunately, this is as real as it gets. Maybe these Obama supporters just need more ‘redistributive efforts’ to help themselves along. Then they could hire babysitters, instead of using tape, when they go on their crack runs.

      You are sick! how could you even think something like that?!? It is just sick to talk of abuse and murder of small children so freely and with humer. And where did it say anything about this womans political affiliation in this story.

      I voted for obama. I am a stay at home mom. I am on the board at his pre school and make him healthy dinners from scratch. I live and breathe for my child. We have a very nice college fund started for him. My husband works and makes good money to support us.

      I defy you to show me one story of a parent who murdered their child and claimed it was for a liberal agenda, or who even stated they were a democrat!

      Like everybody said, including myself, after that crazy man shot the democratic politician in Arizona, this was done by a disturbed person who deserves to be held accountable for it. How funny that you people cry about how everybody is saying conservatives are being blamed for the shooting but it is perfectly accaptable to blame child abuse on liberals. Hipocrit.

      I meant more along the lines of microwaving your child for liberal ideals as the poster suggested liberals do. I am against abortion, but there is still a big difference between that and taking a crying child and killing them. But I will be more specific, do you know of any mother who actually claimed they were liberal and killed there children for that reason.

      This woman has not given her political offiliation and she certainly has not stated she duct taped her child for a liberal agenda. The poster I was responding to simply jumped to liberals because she is a monirity. Because she is a minority it is assumed she is “Ghetto” his words, and because it is assumed she is a poor minority it is assumed liberal people would be for what she did. That is insane, Thatt is an insane jump. I am liberal, I am against abortion, I am against killing kids and I am against duct taping your child, There is no way in hell I would ever stand up for someone who duct taqped their child for any reason what so ever. You are assuming not only that every person in the United states is either for you or against you, you just go ahead and judge wether they are against you soley by the color of their skin. Here’s one, No one under 22 should be allowed to buy duct tape. here’s another; allow teachers to issue duct tape out to 1st graders so they can learn the proper way to use it.       Well, that’s generous of you, but it seriously irritates me.

      One would like to think that this is a forum for thoughtful opinion and some of the comments previously posted have caused me to change my view on things. Also sometimes one might succumb to the rush of righteous outrage without much thought applied and I don’t have a problem with that. Sometimes people are plain wrong – me included, I have to say. And then there are the humourous barbs that I’m rather partial to.

      But reading a pointlessly rude remark is grating.

      I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and it‘s been a while since I’ve been brought to tears but this is just horrible. No matter what my little girl did, I would never, could ever do this to her. I hope the mother receives the harshest punishment allowable by law.

      JZS, big difference between spanking and beating. A spank on the bum once in awhile gets a child‘s attention when 10 time outs didn’t. I only have to count to 1 and whatever he is doing, or not doing, is taken care of.
