Anthony Weiner Mocks Michelle Bachmann and Rep. Kelly During ‘Face the Nation’

Anthony Weiner pulled an Anthony Weiner.

On a CBS “Face the Nation” segment on Sunday, the fiery Democratic Rep. from New York known for his lapses in decorum lived up to his reputation while talking opposite Republican Reps. Michelle Bachmann (MN) and Mike Kelly (PA). Besides yelling and talking over others, Wiener even took some pot shots at his colleagues.

“Apparently my Republican friends believe the tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires – somehow the bill fairy pays for that,” he said at one point, and then sarcastically told Kelly he hopes the newly-elected Rep. has “more respect for his constituents.”

The disrespectful tone rubbed off on Weiner’s Democratic colleague Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She too took a cheap shot at Bachmann when she said everyone needs to “go beyond rehetoric,“ and ”Going beyond campaign slogans which is all I’ve heard today from Mr. Kelly and is all Ms. Bachmann really ever engages in.”

Mediaite cut the explosive part of the segment directly below, with the full 15 minute clip after that:

Weiner pulled a similar stunt, including the sarcasm and eye rolls, with Fox News’s Megyn Kelly.

Anytime this clown starts spilling that bilge one shoulds simply remind him that after a 1.8 Trillion dollar deficit in one year; neither he nor his party has any credibility to say one single word about fiscal responsibility. Not ever.

For the record, Bush’s deficits doubled in the final year of his Presidency. Why? Because the severe recession caused the government to start writing a lot of unemployment checks and other automatic stabilizers at the same time that tax revenues declined due to lower economic activity. The deficit nearly doubled again in ‘09 even though Obama’s budget did not control any of that year. So the biggest hikes in the deficit occurred under budgets that were signed by Bush, yet you blame Obama. And, in the context of the size of the deficits, even the entire stimulus package is dwarfed in size. Never mind that you ignore that most intelligent Republicans were in favor of the TARP and stimulus plans and the honest ones (e.g., Charlie Munger) defend it to this day, while others (e.g., Dick Cheney) were in favor publicly then and privately now. You have totally rewritten economic history, misplaced blame for the deficits and showed a lack of understanding of economics, the budget and a host of other issues. You have little credibility, in light of this, to make any comments on the subject that would be read, much less respected, by intelligent, informed people. Thanks for playing. Better luck next time…

I mean, your half-truths are presented so well, I bet you could get quite a few people to really believe you know what you were talking about. Those of us on here speak in terms of wisdom, so we can’t appreciate your great knowledge, but I know there are many intellect‘s in the Oblahblah administration who don’t know a darn thing about the reality of life and I bet my last dollar they would believe your B.S. ABC–
The Dems were running Congress the final two years of Bush’s presidency and thus controlled the purse strings and spending. If spending was out of control then, they were a huge part of that.

The ‘09 budget was stalled by the Democrats at the end of ’08 (including Obama as a still-then Senator) until the next Congress (111th — with a wider Dem majority) so they could take it out of Bush’s purview and add even more pet projects and tons of pork).
Similiarly, they also shirked their responsibility at the end of last year (’10) and punted the ‘11 budget by merely approving a ’continuing resolution’ to avoid being held accountable for another huge budget before the last mid-term election.

Looks like your credibility is also ‘in question’ when you leave out important facts like these.

Maybe and Starlite, I’m not sure what planet you are living on, but here on Earth the numbers will show that the big increases in the deficit related to expenditures to counter the recession. These are called automatic stabilizers by economists since they are not voted on by Congress but automatically deploy in response to unemployment rising. To blame any Congress–GOP or Democrat–for this is to reveal colossal stupidity on your part. My point in raising the deficit‘s doubling in Bush’s final year is not to indict Bush–the knee jerk reaction you would have since you only see things in fake partisan terms rather than in terms that comport with reality, which is not your fault but that of people like Beck who make money encouraging you to think so poorly–but rather, it was to highlight that you cannot ignorantly look at the deficit numbers in a vacuum. You need to understand the context to see where the spending problem lies, as opposed to rational responses to dire circumstances. If you see 1,000 US soldiers die in peacetime, that should be a graver concern than 2,000 US troops dying during a very serious war–that is the analogy that you fail to understand. So please stop making up stories about Democrats spending out of control when Congress didn’t even have discretion over that deficit, nor was it imprudent to throw a lifeline to people when the bottom fell out of the economy. You totally make up stuff and destroy your credibility. More importantly, you miss an opportunity to learn what the heck really happened. If you do this willfully, to preserve an ideology, then you are borderline crazy. people have to learn to live in reality, afterall.

Hobbs, I spoke no half-truths. Everything I wrote is true. And your ad-hominem attack on me doesn’t change the veracity of what I am saying at all. If you want to debate or rebut the substance of my argument, then feel free. Otherwise, understand that if you just want to name call and nothing else, then I will assume that you have nothing and have lost the argument. I am guessing you are not a third-grader, so expecting rational arguments from you is not asking too much.

I guess you can say they are appropriately represented. Can you guess which one of these three served their country in the military? Answer: none. Which of these ever three risked their lives, liberty, or property for their fellow citizens? Answer: none. Which of these three feeds at every government trough? Answer: … you know what I’m saying. Thankfully there are only a few of these morons in our country.

There is no difference between Kelly and Weiner now. They are both congressmen, not businessmen. The role of government is not profit maximization, so the responsibilities of Kelly are now the same as Weiner. Also, I have always worked in the private sector but I agree with Weiner, not Kelly. You cannot get by in Washington on rhetoric. You will need to cut spending AND raise taxes to solve the budget crisis and the sooner Kelly and others end their denial, the better we all will be. As a private sector guy, I can tell you that the numbers do not lie. But those (like Kelly) that choose to ignore them will do great damage to the US.

It ought to be fun in the 112 congress trying to deal with all those damn babies.. wahh wwaahh !! I want my milk and I you to pay for it…. You know , the funniest thing said on this panel was when douche bag shultz said that 26 year old children can stay on their parents health ins. 26 ? 26 ???? that’s a child ? Something wrong with the liberal mind if they think that at 26 your still a child..

It is very annoying that this blog never addresses the SUBSTANCE of these debates, but just the style–invariably focusing only the lack of decorum shown by the left, but never the equally rude right wing pundit or politician. Typical propaganda, but worth pointing out.

The substance of Weiner’s comment, however, is not in dispute. Our creditors do not care whether we do not pay them back because spending was too high or tax receipts were too low. A default will occur in either case. What this means is that when Michelle Bachmann says that spending hikes must be paid for but tax cuts need not be, she is living in a fantasy world in which our creditors will somehow forgive one type of default but not another. This is truly a land of fairies and gumdrop trees. So Weiner’s observation, while a little colorful (and a bit harsh if you like Bachmann) is nonetheless TRUE…

It is not a static world we live in. The consequences of raising taxes is the government usually expands government which has to be supported by the taxpayer (the government does not create wealth but consumes it). Taxes left in the private sector (at least some of it) can be used to create wealth, jobs, etc.

ABC, tell Art that after approx 10 years of stable tax rates, we would be at the top of the curve. I am surprised he stumbled on that one.
You do not have a PhD? You can still get one. Try Occidental. Dr. C Heldman has some interesting ideas. Free college, pay checks for all citizens, print money and do not be concerned with the deficit. Our foreign creditors are jumping with joy. Ha.
The rich folks you mention trade capital assets. Capital gains rates were reduced in order to encourage investment and capital formation. If their secretaries invest, and have gains, they too are taxed at 15% rate on that portion.

InTheKnow, your question about a flat tax is a non-sequitur, but I’ll answer it anyway. I am against the flat tax, as are most Americans, who favor a progressive tax structure. The reason for this is two-fold: 1) the marginal utility of each incremental goes down, so it is easier to part with, and 2) the move toward a more regressive tax structure since Reagan needs to be reversed to make up for the injustice of the last 20 years.

Seeker, I prefer to get my higher degrees at Ivy League schools. To imply that all higher education is on the level of one dimwit professor is beyond stupid. Thanks for playing, but you’ll have to try that illogical stuff somewhere else. Also, fixed capital formation in this country has grown at a lower pace since capital gains taxes were lowered, while the income gap was widened. Now, either the people you say who passed the lower rates are asleep or they had other reasons for doing what they did. I think it’s the latter reason. And equity in rates does matter. Especially when the secretaries you mention can barely pay the rent, much less funnel their wealth into stocks at the same rate as their hedge fund managing bosses. Get real. Think for yourself. Stop believing the propaganda when the facts point in a totally different direction.

ABC, that dimwit professor claims to have input to the White House.
You lost me with the fixed capital stuff. Current rates have been in effect for about 10 years.
I have better things to do than research what other people make, but my bet would be that hedge fund secretaries make quite a comfortable living. Point is that most any one can participate in the capital markets and hence, are elligible for cap gains tax rates.
The income gap is due largely due to unemployment rate. Capital formation has undoubtedly increased over the last few months, but was obliterated at the beginning of the financial crisis.

@ABC… You mentioned the economy during the Clinton administration as being better than both Regan and Bush, and your reasoning seems to be behind the higher tax rates under Clinton. This is a valid point, however Clinton was President during the “.com” boom and therefore reaped heavily as the bubble grew bigger and bigger. To compare the economic status we are in now to that of the Clinton administration is laughable. I don’t believe that if Clinton had been under similar economic circumstances he would have raised taxes (we are/were in a recession), but maybe I am giving Clinton too much credit. My feeling is we dont need to raise taxes, instead we need to cut spending across the board and make it a goal to eliminate wasteful spending wherever it exists. That includes, but is not limited to, the Pentagon and Army spending, social security and medicare, welfare, and others. After having eliminated the waste and overspending, we can then have a more concrete number to reach and we can figure out at that point whether raising taxes is necessary. Until that point however, I will continue to believe we have a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

@Blacksmith…I disagree that they should not shake hands. You can have an ardent disagreement with someone and still show respect. Did Weiner show respect? No, but that doesnt mean we should stoop to his level. People can disagree with you and still want whats best for this country (and in their mind they believe what they are doing is right just as much as you do).
We don’t need to see fights in congress and the senate as we see in some asian countries. We need to have a civil discourse, and if they stoop to a low level you can end the arguement, because that means you have won. I dont hate Weiner, I dont know him. What I do know about him are his beliefs, and I completly and utterly disagree with his beliefs. Other than that he may be a good father/brother/son whatever and ultimately a good man beside his beliefs. Our arguments are superior so we will win without resorting to the childish behavior Weiner exhibits in seemingly every interview.
