‘Anti-Gay Conspiracy Theorist’: Dems. Disavow Senate Nominee After He Appears to Be ‘Anything But’ a Democrat

The Tennessee Democratic Party is disavowing the man who won the party’s nomination to challenge Republican Sen. Bob Corker in November, saying the little-known candidate belongs to an anti-gay hate group.
Mark Clayton, 35, reported raising no money and campaigned little, but received more than 48,000 votes– twice the number of his nearest competitor in Thursday’s seven-candidate Democratic primary.
Clayton is vice president of the group “Public Advocate of the United States,” which says it “offers strong and vocal opposition to,” among other things, “same-sex marriage and the furtherance of so-called gay rights” on its website.
The Southern Poverty Law Center considers it a “hate group,“ and Rachel Maddow has declared the man to be an ”anti-gay conspiracy theorist.”
The Tennessean has more information:
Less than 24 hours after a man espousing conservative and libertarian views surprised the state’s political scene by winning the Democratic nomination, the Tennessee Democratic Party disavowed him, saying he’s part of an anti-gay hate group.
[...]
“The only time that Clayton has voted in a Democratic primary was when he was voting for himself,” the party said in a news release. “Many Democrats in Tennessee knew nothing about any of the candidates in the race, so they voted for the person at the top of the ticket. Unfortunately, none of the other Democratic candidates were able to run the race needed to gain statewide visibility or support.
[...]
Clayton campaign’s Facebook page champions three major positions: strict adherence to the U.S. Constitution, family stances that are pro-life, and keeping the country from turning into “AN ORWELLIAN SUPER STATE.” [Emphasis added]
However, the man’s campaign page is also littered with references to World War III, and “secret electronic tags” supposedly embedded in ID cards that the government uses to “hunt and track innocent Americans against our will.”
Here is a clip of Clayton explaining why he thinks the Democrats really dropped him, via the Tennessean:
Party spokesman Sean Braisted says officials are trying to figure out what the party can do beyond just condemning Clayton.
“We aren’t taking any options off the table at this time,” Braisted said in an email. “The only option we are taking off the table…is supporting Mark Clayton.”
At this point, they are urging Democrats to write-in another candidate at the ballot box.
“What a debacle in Tennessee,” the liberal website the Daily Kos concluded Friday. “It’s not like Democrats were ever going to have a shot at unseating freshman Sen. Bob Corker, but at least our preferred candidate, actress and activist Park Overall, is a real Democrat. The guy Dems did nominate seems to be anything but.”
Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney gloated on Twitter, writing: “Nice vetting job by the Dems.”
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Posted on August 4, 2012 at 8:06pm@ Smokey Bo…… It‘s really quite amusing isn’t it. The leaders of the Democrat party ADMITTING the abject ignorance of their constituents. Not only during the “hanging” chad fiasco in the 2000 election but the pathetic claim that voter I.D. laws were constructed to disenfranchise Democrat voters, as though they were too… what? Too stupid to access the available government assistance in procuring said I.D.’s? They have no trouble locating the welfare office no matter how far they must travel. Why is that I wonder? And now this. My question is at what point will the average Democrat realize they are being “dissed” by the party leaders? Probably never. I believe they really are that stupid.

Posted on August 5, 2012 at 6:13amWell, hang on, I not so sure that the democrat’s position is correct (that voters simply picked the name at the top of the ticket).
Could it be that the voters preferred his position? That is; “strict adherence to the U.S. Constitution, family stances that are pro-life, and keeping the country from turning into an orwellian superstate”.
Plenty of democrats voted against same-sex marriage in California for example, and most are Christian. Almost all Americans believe in the Constitution and rightly so. There are significant numbers of democrats in the Tea Party. And most people can see where Mr Obama is taking the USA and abhor the prospect.
Could it be that the patriotic democrat voters have seen the light, and it is the party machine that is out of step? And could it be that, in their conceit and arrogance, the party is implying that their supporter’s stupidity is responsible for this outcome?
Could it be that democratic voters fully understand the source of the problems that face your nation, and have voted accordingly?
I think that this is the more likely scenario.
“You can fool all of the people some of the time…”

Stupidity and ignorance are endemic to the sub-elite Democratic voter. That is why the require Masters. The Elites have failed. Also the silence from the Basement Dwelling Trolls only makes sense. They are waiting for their Masters to figure out how to spin this so they all don’t look incompetent. My thought is the DNC is too tapped out trying to support the collapse of Obama to have caught and stopped this guy.

The Tea Party isn’t just putting RINOS in office to screw things up like they did when Bush was in office. Having read your comments on this and the next pages, I have to say, in the kindest possible way, that you are sounding increasingly shrill and desperate.
It seems to me that, while democratic voters still wish to be democratic voters, they are walking away from the extreme left which has undoubtably captured your party.
Perhaps you should re-examine your position, do you think?
Blind, unthinking adherence only benefits tyrants, and even tyrants are contemptuous of such people. I‘m sure you’ve heard that Lenin refered to such types as “useful idiots”. Is how you want your country to be in the future really incompatible with the Tea Party’s ideals?
There are many democrats who don’t think so.
