I knew what the phrase meant. I believe her when she says she didn’t, she probably just picked it up from a conservative columnist who used it to describe attacks on her. But, when people do use the phrase figuratively, it’s usually to denounce unfair persecution of somebody else, not of yourself.

The main reason this will hurt her, is that when you take four or five days to think of something smart to say, you should say something that’s actually smart, not something that you have to make excuses for the next day. Making a statement just about the tragedy, then a strong statement denouncing her attackers a couple days later, after the memorials are all over, that would have been smart. This makes her look self-righteous and self-centered.

Blaming an entire 60% of the country (those who share a common, non violent belief) for one nut’s behavior and suggesting that they have something to do with the massacre of innocent people is very like to blood libel, It is also vitriolic and could incite some nut to violence. Liberals really should feel shame at the rhetoric and hate-speech coming from the left following the tragedy in Tucson. It’s been 3-4 days of the most reckless, spittle-flecked poisonous spew I can remember in my lifetime–and it’s all coming from Democrats and their supporters. Believe me, the American people are not fooled by Democratic hysteria and hate. They see who’s doing the hate speech–Democrats. Take a look in the mirror and be ashamed, be very ashamed:

I find it interesting that in your post you state that

“blaming the Jews for the black death or other ills of Europe was a blood libel”

No if you replace Jews with Republicans/Conservatives then you would know what she is saying is correct, because Democrats/Liberals/Socialists are all blaming Republicans/Conservatives for what happened in AZ. Now with that out of the way I think that Liberals and the like need to stop blaming one group of people for a tragedy in order to gain public notoriety that what they think is the correct way to do things or that Republican/Conservatives will be the downfall to this country which is not the truth. On the Tonight Show Bill Maher or however the idiots name is spelled blamed everyone under the sun and equating “loving of guns” to drug habits, then calling everyone crazy. His people voted for the War in Iraq, his people have been trying to incite riots all over the country. Both sides of the fence have used some sort of violent context in their political says in order to push their ideas. Freedom of speech is what makes this country great and when we lose that freedom we will have nothing left.

      1. If you really believe Palin is a fool, how can you blame her for her words?
      2. “Bood” is spelled “Blood”
      3. I think you mean “persecution,“ not ”prosecution” — prosecution implies punishment for an actual crime.
      4. European is typically capitalized in English
      5. Noun/verb agreement, try it. You might find it improves your communication skills.
      6. Palin referred to “blood libel” as a negative. Calling her out for it is tantamount to claiming that “Don’t put peanuts on my Kung Pao chicken“ actually means ”Add extra peanuts to my Kung Pao chicken.”

Hey, now that I think of it, are you the idiot that works in the kitchen at the Chinese restaurant I frequent? When I say NO PEANUTS, I mean none, not extra!

She’s a star; the very spirit of America, our guardian angel we used to call ‘Columbia’.

Capehart is an absolute race-baiting, hater. His “work” speaks for itself. The Progressives are terrified more than before about Sarah. They mocked and poked at her while she has been silent…..now she comes out speaking reason and truth and they are terrified. Andra Mitchell just tried tying the “anti-semetic’ remarks to sarah on her show. I am not a fan of Pat Buchanon but he put her and David Shrum in their places. He explained how the term “blood libel” applied with the Progressive attacks on Palin. The Progressives are reeling in horror that their attacks on Conservatives are back-firing in a very big way….watch as their little, shrill voices raise in alarm all across Obama-world…..get the popcorn ready.

Ok lets set the dam record straight. How can you all (dumb ass lefties) think is means only JEWS. The context she was using the term was not to have the shooting be blamed on a “group” as it was originally used against the ALMOST ALWAYS JEWS-NOT 100% OF THE TIME HOWEVER. The following is from WIKIPEDIA

Blood libel (also blood accusation[1][2]) refers to a false accusation or claim[3][4][5] that religious minorities, almost always Jews[citation needed], murder children to use their blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays.[1][2][6] Historically, these claims have–alongside those of well poisoning and host desecration–been a major theme in European persecution of Jews.[4]

The libels typically allege that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos for Passover. The accusations often assert that the blood of Christian children is especially coveted, and historically blood libel claims have often been made to account for otherwise unexplained deaths of children. In some cases, the alleged victim of human sacrifice has become venerated as a martyr, a holy figure around whom a martyr cult might arise. A few of these have been even canonized as saints.[citation needed]

In Jewish lore, blood libels were the impetus for the creation in the 16th century of the Golem of Prague by Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel. Many popes have either directly or indirectly condemned the blood accusation, and no pope has ever sanctioned it.[7] These libels have persisted among some segments of Christians to the present time

For anyone to really think she was being anti-Jew is looking for a reason to make up something that just is not there………………………….VICTORY OR DEATH

July 27, 2008 — Jim Adkisson shoots and kills two people at a progressive church in Knoxville, Tennessee, wounding two. Adkisson calls it “a symbolic killing” because he really ‘wanted to kill…every Democrat in the Senate & House’ but was unable to gain access to them.

April 4, 2009 — Neo-Nazi Richard Poplawski shoots and kills three police officers in Pittsburgh. His friend Edward Perkovic tells reporters that Poplawski feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on its way“ and ”didn’t like our rights being infringed upon.“ Perkovic also commented that Poplawski carried out the shooting because ”if anyone tried to take his firearms, he was gonna’ stand by what his forefathers told him to do.”

May 31, 2009 — Scott P. Roeder shoots and kills Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider, in the foyer of Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas. The FBI lists Roeder as a member of the Montana Freemen, a radical anti-government group.

June 10, 2009 — James W. von Brunn walks into the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. and shoots and kills a security guard. Von Brunn believed that Western civilization was going to be replaced with a “ONE WORLD ILLUMINATI GOVERNMENT” that would “confiscate private weapons” in order to accomplish its goals.

February 18, 2010 — Joseph Stack of Austin, Texas, flies a single-engine plane into an office building containing nearly 200 IRS employees, killing one and wounding 13. In a suicide note, Stack lays out his grievances with the federal tax agency, stating, “The law ‘requires’ a signature on the bottom of a tax filing; yet no one can say truthfully that they understand what they are signing; if that‘s not ’duress’ than what is. If this is not the measure of a totalitarian regime, nothing is … Violence not only is the answer, it is the only answer.”

Bravo MSNBC for trying to piece together segments not based on news, but based on the conservatives who actually stand for something. Maybe one day journalism will return and MSNBC will have to actually go out and create a story based on FACTS and noteworthy news….pigs won’t fly anytime soon. And why should she have to apologize for posting cross-hairs on a map? Is supermarket Target going to have to change the bullseye on all their stores because Walmart might get offended and kill Target employees. This is exactly what stupid liberals think is relevant in today’s society. Liberals sure do elect some stupid people who are experts at knee jerking and less likely to use common sense.

No one said one word about “tonight down the rhetoric” when Bush was called everything but the President of The United States. It is clear in this case, that the left is grabbing for anything that can make them look better in the publics’ eyes. It is amazing to me that even thought English is not my first language and my education is not form Ivy League schools I still have a better knowledge and understanding for the English language then most libs. In the media
Here is a short history lesson
“Blood libel” was coined and used during the holocaust due to propaganda by the Nazis and the German media to spread lies (events that couldn’t be backed by facts) to smear the Jewish community. Is has the word “blood” in the phrase because some of the stronger twisted claims were that Jews kidnapped and killed German kids to use their blood to perform ritual services hence the word blood
So…… it is very appropriate for Sarah Palin to use the phase since some do argue that she was responsible for the shooting

      Oh hey, look at this:

“Additionally, one of Adkisson’s former wives had been a member (in the 1990s) of the church where the attack occurred.[11]

Adkisson’s manifesto[12] also cited the inability to find a job, and that his food stamps were being cut.”

Nazis are from the Left. The left always fights the left. But thanks for showing us this. :)

Which doesn’t indicate his politics left/right actually. Last check, lots of leftists are against one world “illuminati” government (in fact, they are who I normally hear this charge from).

In an exclusive statement, famed attorney and Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz defended Sarah Palin’s use of the term “blood libel” from multiple detractors. As the Media Matters/MSM/Democrat narrative on the Tucson tragedy unravels, they are getting a lot more desperate in their attacks on Palin. Fortunately, there are still plenty of honest liberals around:

“The term “blood libel” has taken on a broad metaphorical meaning in public discourse. Although its historical origins were in theologically based false accusations against the Jews and the Jewish People, its current usage is far broader. I myself have used it to describe false accusations against the State of Israel by the Goldstone Report. There is nothing improper and certainly nothing anti-Semitic in Sarah Palin using the term to characterize what she reasonably believes are false accusations that her words or images may have caused a mentally disturbed individual to kill and maim. The fact that two of the victims are Jewish is utterly irrelevant to the propriety of using this widely used term.” – Alan Dershowitz

Palin is not in the hot seat…at least not with thinking individuals. Anyone who blames Palin, Rush, Beck or anyone else for the action of this lunatic is just as nutty as the shooter…period.

And if progressives are socialist or communist, so what. Have you no shame, or do you not know your constitution? There is no constitutional prohibit from belonging to any political group.

No Beck hates the Constitution, so does Palin and the Tea Baggers, they hate the fact that the Constitution does not outlaw ideas they do not like.

Palin was the first named target (word use intended) in this smear campaign…. within hours of the shooting happening…how is it Beck’s fault for something the left has hatched and pushed (in the face of no evidence to support their ridiculous accustations) ?

Your logic doesn’t match the dictionarys meaning of the term “logic”. In fact your logic is a well formulated as the campaign to smear those that have zero to do with the tragedy whatsoever. I suggest your efforts vis a vie critical thinking should commence BEFORE posting (if possible).

Frankly, Pat Buchanan, is not someone Palin would want supporting her. It’s a little like getting support from David Duke, former head of the KKK. You can be sure she won’t be giving a shout out for him or asking for his support in the future. He’s making money, but Palin in cringing.

The progressives shoot from the hip and shoot off their mouth every day. The word “shoot” sticks to them like glue. Progressives constantly use a method that is the same a the centuries old term “Blood Libel” to condemn conservatives. It is so descriptive of the liberal dialog that the Muslims, who use this method every day in the Middle East, join together with liberals at every turn.

Members of the media have declared that Sarah Palin has “blood on her hands” for using target symbols to identify candidates she opposes. These declarations are libelous. Hence the term, blood libel. They make wild accusations against her and when she attempts to defend herself, they chastise her for doing so. For a person they continue to characterize as mentally challenged, the media seems to be so very threatened by Sara Palin. I wonder why.

I wonder what he would say if Palin were shot tomorrow. Will he point finger at himself? These shameless hypocrites are practicing exactly what they are preaching against.

The worst is that whatever they preach against is conjured out of thin air. The risks they bought on is real.

Johnathan looks a little uncomfortable in the hot seat there doesn’t he? The fact that we are still talking about Palin is testament to how desperate the left is for someone to blame any and every thing on. The latest Gallup poll is showing that people are not buying the MSM’s blame game.

@sha44ss, My family immigrated from Poland and my Grandfather fought Socialism and Communism. The younger people today have the wool pulled over their eyes and they don’t know it. Look at MSNBC‘s host O’Donnell, close friend of Olbermann and Maddow, and O’Donnell has admitted on live TV that he is a Socialist. It doesn’t get any easier than that to identify them. “Socialism & Communism is NOT cool !”
