Anti-Semitic? Nation’s Largest Presbyterian Group to Vote on Israel Divestment

(The Blaze/AP) — Once again, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) finds itself at the center of controversy over a potential anti-Israeli move the church may plan to make. The denomination, the largest Presbyterian group in the United States, is considering divesting from three companies over the Israeli military use of their products in the Palestinian territories.

(Related: Proposed Document Asks Presbyterian Denomination to Condemn Israel‘s ’Apartheid Against the Palestinian People’)

The proposal before the PC(USA) has outraged many Jewish groups who sent representatives to the church’s national assembly in Pittsburgh this week to lobby against the measure. Divestment supporters say the targeted companies – Caterpillar Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co. and Motorola – are profiting from Palestinian suffering. The American Jewish Committee, a public policy group, has said the proposal demonizes Israel and threatens Christian-Jewish relations.

Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to Vote on Israel Divestment

Debate and vote were scheduled for late Thursday.

Pro-Palestinian Presbyterians have been trying for years to persuade the denomination to divest. But the church has been dissuaded by U.S. Jewish groups and other Christians who argue that withdrawing investments will not contribute to peace in the region. At this year’s Presbyterian General Assembly, pro-divestment activists believe momentum is on their side.

Pension funds in Norway and Sweden have divested themselves of holdings in some firms involved in building in settlements or helping to erect Israel’s contentious West Bank separation barrier. European activists have stepped up pressure on companies by exposing their West Bank ties and picketing stores that sell goods produced in Israeli settlements.

Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to Vote on Israel Divestment

Last week, the U.S. investment firm MSCI Inc. announced it had removed Caterpillar from three of its popular indexes that track socially responsible investments, citing concerns about the Israeli military’s use of company bulldozers in the Palestinian territories. The MSCI decision led mutual fund giant TIAA-CREF to divest $72 million in Caterpillar stock.

Caterpillar has come under scrutiny because of the Israeli military’s use of armored-plated Caterpillar bulldozers. Caterpillar says it does not equip tractors with armor or sell directly to the Israeli military. Instead, equipment is first sold to the U.S. government and then resold to Israel and outfitted for military use.

Other major American Protestant denominations, including the United Methodist Church and the Episcopal Church, have rejected past divestment proposals.

The exact amount of money involved in the Presbyterian divestment is unclear. The funds are divided between the church Board of Pensions and the Presbyterian Foundation. The board investments are estimated to be around $16 million. However negligible the economic impact, pro-Palestinian activists consider the withdrawal of funds an act of social witness.

Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to Vote on Israel Divestment

The Rev. Walt Davis, of the Israel Palestine Mission Network, a pro-Palestinian Presbyterian group, argued the denomination would have divested years ago from the companies under church’s own socially responsible investment guidelines “were it not for the Israel lobby.”

“They said first that it’s anti-Semitic, then that it’s anti-Israel, then that it delegitimizes Israel. It’s none of those,” Davis said. “It’s us being true to our values.”

But the liberal-leaning Americans for Peace Now, which calls for the evacuation of Jewish settlements in the territories and supports a Palestinian state, said the Presbyterian effort was “misguided and counterproductive.”

“Divestment campaigns such as this therefore raise very real and understandable worries about global anti-Semitism and the perception that the campaigns are not truly (or only) about Israeli policies but rather reflect a deep-seated hatred for and rejection of Israel,” the group said in a statement ahead of the vote.

Those Presbyterians are descendant from the liberl theology movement of the 1900s that sought to remove spriritual and supernatural content and focus on the moral teaching of Jesus. They are in point of fact apostate and deny Holy Scripture.

I left that bunch for the Presbyterians who believe the Bible.

They deny the authority and inerrancy of Scripture the Apostle Peter accurately describes this false so christian church organization in .2 Peter 2:1-3 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. 2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; 3 and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.”.

It’s one thing to support an Israeli state and whole other thing entirely to support the oppression of the people of Palestine.

The current situation in the land of Palestine is unacceptable. Israel has Its state at the costs of palestinians living in large ghettos/internment camps which grow smaller each year with new Israeli development on those lands. They are kept fenced in by the Israeli military who use rifles and tanks suppress the Palestinians.

Being an American who cherishes my liberty and freedom, I am appalled by the actions of Israel to these people. We are constantly fed BS and propaganda that the Palestinians are an evil people who wish only to kill jews, and many Americans eat that crap and ask for more. Many who do support the oppression of Palestinians use the religious context of the Christian bible to justify these atrocities. It makes me sick every time I read that garbage. If your preacher, your church or your faith believes that these injustices are holy scripture, you are being deceived by a devil.

As Christians and proud Americans who cherish liberty and the word of Christ, we cannot stand by and allow the current situation in the holy land to continue. A change needs to happen that will make the land free for all men. Those great deceivers who will claim that freeing the palestinians will bring about the jewish destruction are selling you BS. The oppression of a group of people for the security of another is a grave injustice.

How in the he!! can a church boycott of a business be anti-Semitic? Anti-Israel does not mean anti-Semitic anymore than being anti-Iran makes you racist. Like “racist”, this is a communist (Trotsky) term that is used to shut down and win arguments. Jews use it all the time with great success just like Sharpton and Jackson use racist.

Liberalism is communism , This group are not Christians, they may think but in their hear they are not , you cannot say you love Christ who was born a Jew and hate the Jewish people who gave us the Bible both old and new testaments .But they along with all haters of God will stand in his judgment and be judged by their own words and deeds. Life is short but eternity is forever and I will choose the word of God over the false promises of man and false teachings as given by this group. The Jewish people were given the land by God , dispersed and now brought back into the land as the Bible told us. The Jewish people take care of those that call themselves Palestinians which are in reality the children of migrant workers that came to Israel for work. This is part of the liberal/communist work against Gods chosen people. Read your Bible and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

As part of a number of covenants with the Jews, God promised the scattering of His chosen and subsequent return to their homeland; including their protection through what we call the Tribulation. We are seeing prophecy unfold as we watch.
As a Christian I would both warn and remind the Presbyterian Church of what God stated in regard to the Jewish people in the OT:

Genesis 12:3 “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” KJV

May I also remind you that our Lord, Jesus Christ sprung from the Jewish people.

Sadly this is not the first time Christians have treated Jews abominably. As a ‘recent’ case, look how the Roman Catholic Church and many others treated them during WWII. This will not be forgotten. Let us (Christians) pray for the Jewish people and their homeland; Israel.

Yes there was a synagogue of Jews that were of satan that persecuted the Christian Church just as there are some who call themselves Christians that are of satan. These will not stay with that which is of Christ because they were not really part of it to begin with.
You will also notice in the Book of Revelation that in the Tribulation the Jews become the main witnesses for Jesus the Christ and will be martyred for it. You will also see that there are those of Jewish descent who have a major role in the Heavenly Jerusalem of which the earthly one is only a type and shadow of.

In addition, notice that Jesus did NOT say that Jews are of satan.

He said that those who say they are Jews, and are not (Jews), are of satan. In this case those who are not Jews are of the synagogue of satan.

Then one can extrapolate that there are those who say they are Christians, and are not (Christians), are of satan. In this case those who are not Christians are of the church of satan.

The PCUSA did, however, allow them to divert their funding away from the national PCUSA and keep it local as an expression of their disagreement with Prop 10 (allowing gay clergy). If they stay on track they will have their mortgage paid off in 2017 and hopefully can distance themselves more.

Exactly. That “some reason” crux of the biscuit you refer to is a broad reaching, extremely complex and well orchestrated strategy that Israel has effectively implemented since 1948 that incorporates denial, collective guilt trips, feigned outrage, oppression, cover-ups, provocation, media indifference, fairy tales, politics, religious extremism, terrorism, hypocrisy etc. etc.

And here I actually thought you were a Libertarian. Last I checked, being an American isn‘t defined as someone whose first loyalty is to their country’s government. Being an American in my book means being a productive worker who values freedom and respect for the individual. You however will only respect other Americans if they care about America and nothing else. Sorry Indy, but MY first loyalty is to my friends and family. If I feel Israel‘s continued prosperity is beneficial to me and my family I’ll support Israel. If you want America to be great, you need to convince those who can make it great that living in America is in THEIR best interests, not yours. You’re nothing but a selfish little OWS-type that wants everything to benefit you personally.

You can always write a check, tzion, don’t have to steal it from my wallet. Foreign aid to any country is wrong.

You cry about welfare in the usa, But we support israel socialized medicine and “abortions”.

      @RESME

Was foreign aid to Poland wrong during the Cold War? Foreign aid should be for our allies alone and under the conditions that:

      a) We can afford it.
      b) It advances our national interests

I find it funny that Libertarians only cry about foreign aid when it comes to Israel. Wonder why that is?

I have older brother that’s a part time Baptist preacher.. Uneducated ignorant as can be but he worships Israel John Hagee and the rest of the Zionist televangicals… He told me not to speak to his children about Israel… That it was Satanic to talk about Israel in a negative manner…. lol

Like I said,I’ve about had all that I can take out of these fools.. I never dreamed we such idiots in our country.. I really think they just need to get the hell out like you say.. If their interests in defending and supporting a foreign state then by God carry your ass over their and fight for them!

@squid, Ya it was wrong to give it to poland, It’s stealing from poor people to help rich dictators. I’d rather pay for socialized medicine here(jews included), then for israel’s healthcare.

Taxation is theft, If i come to your house point a gun to your head and give your money to your neighbor, would you be angry? After all, It’s so your neighbor can buy a new television for his palace.

      No foreign aid, FOR ANYONE.

If you knew anything about me you‘d know I’m against foreign aid even to Israel. The only kinds of foreign aid I might support are relief efforts following a disaster. I’m all for allowing companies to sell to Israel but I feel that government foreign aid acts as a lease by which the US politicians attempt to control other countries. All lot of people try to show foreign aid to Israel as proof that Jews control the US but in reality the US uses that aid in order to have a say in what Israel does. Notice how Netanyahu has to run his intentions on Iran past Obama first?

Presbos’ walk carefully on the ground in which you are currently afoot!!! Read your Bible and reflect on it!! As i recall those who turn their backs to God do not fare very well. Before you decide maybe you should consult with Jewish leadership on the decision before you, they may have some insight!!! Choose wisely, the fate of your denomination may depend on your decision.

I’ll buy some of the stock they sell!!! Boy these people are really off base.
FIRST OF ALL, the Presbyterians need to read ALL the tenets of Islam and realize that it’s the Palestinians who are trying to kill all the Jews and TAKE even the land given them in 1948. All the Jewish people want is to be left alone and co exist with their neighbors.
SECONDLY, It wasn’t the Isralei people who launched 3 wars in the area, it was the Palestinians along with various Arab countries whose intent was to EXECUTE every Jew, men, women and children.
THIRDLY, It is not the Israelis who are constantly launching rockets at the Jews, it is the Palestinians. How would you feel if your home town was under almost constant attack from rockets fired by the city next door?
FOURTHLY, It isn’t the Israelis who are strapping bombs to themselves and entering arab areas to kill and maim as many people as possible, it’s the Palestinians.
FIFTHLY, It isn’t the Israelis who, from kindergarden through high school, teach their children that martyrdom is an honor. It’s the Palestinians. The Israeli‘s don’t brainwash their children and teach military drills, tactics and manuvers from K thru grade 12, It’s the Palestinians who do that. The Israelis don’t have cartoon shows on TV teaching their kids to kill Palestinians, no, it’s the Palestinians who resort to those tactics.

These politically correct morons need to do some real research into the true conditions in the middle east. The conclusi

The Presbyterian Chruch, USA (PCUSA) is liberal progressive and an aberrant, PC, social justice, neoMarxist blend of New Ageism, while the Presbyterian Church, America (PCA) is a grounded, conservative, Bible-believing Judeo/Christian institution. The PCUSA has gone the way of the Episcopal Church, that is, to perdition. Most true ex-Episcopalian Bible-believing Christians broke away to the Anglican Church. So, all main-line denominations are not lost heretics. You just have to know the nomenclature to distinguish the truth.

That’s how they manipulate the masses.

A question for you Tech. one that i’m sure no one has asked you before. It is obvious to all you have no love for Jews, the Jewish People or the State of Israel. You see and reject all efforts of this community to have input over the decisions coming from Washington and the world stage in general.
So the question to you is in keeping to reality that someone some group will fill the vacuum left if your efforts bear fruit and Jewish voices are silenced … What groups influence would you replace Jewish influence with? What’s your preference? Who would you like to see whispering into high Government officials ears? And don’t insult us by saying no one

Your proof? Burden of proof is on you tech. First prove the ENTIRE media is Jewish. Second prove that this is by design. Third prove that this design is part of a somehow unseen conspiracy that hasn’t been revealed despite the fact that Jews are leaving Judaism on a daily basis. Jews have been converting to Christianity for centuries and somehow none of them have ever exposed this “conspiracy”?

Fact is tech, most conspiracies are run by a small group so as to avoid anything leaking out. Look at how Fast and Furious is going with the Justice dept. leaking information to investigators. Your conspiracy theory would have to include more people than 9/11 conspiracy theories and yet still not leak.

paperpushermj: Sure since I‘m Caucasian and given that America was founded by Caucasians I’d prefer that Caucasian’s be whispering into the ears of other Caucasians in DC… you know like it was the first 200-300 years of America’s history.. You know back when America was indeed the proverbial shining city on the hill… Back before the Jews came in with their Federal Reserve Bank and corrupted everyone and everything through their filthy money.

Is that too much to ask for? lol I know the Jew demands that we worship at the alter of Multiculturalism Diversity and Pluralism today but I prefer to go back in time before Jewish domination of America if that’s alright with everyone.

paperpushermj: Well that’s a very interesting comment. Let me try to respond by stating something that is not so obvious to everyone but will be.. Many of Beck supporters are pounded with this day in and day out so I know they understand but I don’t think they understand why.

First of all you mock 1910 life in rural America. Fair enough but I bet you sweet buns that you didn’t see the enormous amount of rape and murder back then as you do today in the land of the rich and wealthy? But I’m sure you ok with 15-20k homocides a year and 60-75 violent rapes as long as none of the perps were Arabs or Muslims… lol

Furhtermore the south was an agrarian society. That’s not loss upon any one. Who knows what it would look like today had the Yanks not won the War of Northern Agression and Tyranny.. Who knows what it would look like if there was no Federal Reserve Bank today and that people had to live on what they earned like they do in about 90% of the rest of the world… I‘m sure we wouldn’t have large houses and 3 autos and all the luxerys that goes with today’s lifestyles; however, as your master GB warns you this is built upon a facade! And it’s about to collapse just like it did in Germany and your Jewish heroes know it! They’ve propped it up as long as humanly possible and now they have all of their “rodeo clowns’ in place to protect their good name.. lol

But you love the Jewish printed fiat money don’t you paper? Life is grand… lol We’ll see how it

This isn’t about opposing Zionists. There opposing companies whose products have been used by Israel even if the company itself didn’t sell it to Israel. How does that get anything done? Do we boycott Mercedes because they sell to Israel? Or maybe Coca-cola?

I also find it very ironic that you would cite that website which is a collection of mostly extreme Ultra-Orthodox Jews oppositions to Zionism. Quite simply, these Jews have zero issue with Jews living in Israel but for some reason are against Jews actually governing themselves in Israel prior to the Messiah. Many opposed the movement simply because they opposed anything secular Jews supported on principle.

As for Zionists being Nazis, why don’t you start by demonstrating that Zionists as a rule believe they have the right to rule over and decide the fate of everybody else. The Nazis believed that as the “Aryan Race” they and they alone has the exclusive right to rule the world and purge it of all non-Aryans. Show me that such an idea exists as even mainstream ideology amongst any Zionist.
