Class Warfare Terrorists Strike NYC In Upcoming Video Game ‘Rainbow Six: Patriots’

The next installment of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Franchise will feature terrorists who strike New York City in “retaliation for the greed of Wall Street and the government that acts to protect them.”

It appears to have strong anti-capitalist, class warfare themes. Some bloggers are already saying this is Tom Clancy’s way of taking on Occupy Wall Street from a conservative point of view, but according to website Gameinformer.com, it’s actually more about right-wing extremists.

An ominous voice-over introduces the first official trailer of this homegrown terrorism game by saying:

“This is the day we’ve been waiting for. This is for the jobs you’ve streamlined, the debts you’ve collected, this is for the homes you foreclosed on, the bailouts you took. We are the true patriots. It’s time for a new balance of power. You may not answer to the government, but you will answer to us.”

In the released footage from the game, the story kicks off when a man with an attractive wife in a comfortable home is kidnapped by a gang of ruthless class warfare thugs who threaten to slit the throats of his wife and child if he doesn’t detonate a suicide vest in Times Square.

From there, a series of first-person shooter scenarios kick-in, and civilians are often targets. It gets brutal fast, and from the looks of things, is going to be the most controversial Rainbow Six entry in the series by far.

    One thing the game-makers get right: if OWS pushes America into another internal war – it will NOT be called Civil War 2. It will not be “civil” at all. All bets will be off, no holds barred. To think TIME magazine and the likes Pelosi are so smitten with Communist revolutionaries.

    Disheartening to see in the first few seconds of play that military and LE were pitted against each other. I suppose the game writers are going for maximum angst and disruption.

    Pick up a book or read online some of the letters from young soldiers of the Civil War era. Then compare their vocabulary and thought process to the mall-crawlers of today. Sure, we have iPads and Kindle, and Starbucks… but have we really improved?

      i think that civil in this case means of, pertaining to, or consisting of citizens. not the polite or courteous meaning.

    I’ve always been a fan of the Tom Clancy games. They are quality stuff. Fanatacism and terrorism by whatever name the groups call themselves are judged by there actions not by there group names.

    I don’t intend to read too much into why they chose this name or that name. There are actual terrorist groups, cults, and OWS even, that play on/act in the name of what they believe and want others to believe to be a “just” cause or a righteous cause for all. When there very actions/behaviors contradict what they stand for. Rainbow Six games are about swat tactics in hostile scenarios.

    As a gamer, I’m excited for this! The only issue I have is that the terrorists in this story do have one distinct difference from OWS: These terrorists are ORGANIZED! Of course, knowing Clancy, an accurate depiction of OWS attempting to commit these types of terrorist attacks wouldn’t have made for a good Rainbow Six game (it would have ended up being more like an arcade shooter).

    I think some people may be missing the point, this game is portraying the “Occupy” protesters as future potential terrorist threats, not unlike the weathermen in the ’60s, this is a bit of activism on Tom Clancy’s part. From what I see so far, it seems like its painting the anti-wall street folks badly. So whats wrong with that? I feel that the far left anti-capitalist sort have always been the more militant of extreme groups, this seems a grim but realistically plausible scenario. It certainly is something to think about, its no wonder many Americans have taken to better preparedness so as to not become victims. I believe, Americans that work for a living and make enough to pay the bills, and take little or no government aid are viewed as being part of the “elite” capitalist establishment to many of the occupy folks. Scary stuff, I really hope this game is not prophetic in nature. On a lighter note, it looks like a really well done piece, I may just have to pick up a copy for PS3.

    It should be noted that the “Patriots”/Anti-Wall Street terrorists in the game are the ANTAGONISTS, aka bad guys. The Rainbow Six Operatives are the anti-terrorist PROTAGONISTS. The game is about being an anti-terrorist special ops/SWAT mixture. Having played RB6 games, it’s always from the perspective of the good guys.

      Agreed, sick.
      I might expect a plot like this in a novel or even an R-rated movie with lots of drama and dialog, but this is a first-person shooter game where the whole point for both good and bad guy is to kill.

      Sick.

      Yes, LAUS DEO and CATB, this is how the OWS crowd could turn, but do they need to be given the ideas?
      And the other real issue is that these games are played by mostly adolescents whose brains aren’t always done baking. I’ve heard some try and counter that argument by saying that violence in video games acts as a safeguard against real life violence, but it sure seems to me that things have gotten exponentially worse over the past couple of decades.

    that game looks. AWESOME. Regardless of the political commentary and all that – video games keep getting cooler and cooler. I can’t wait until movies get replaced by video games as the primary source of story-based entertainment.

    These unwashed, perpetual College Student, unemployed, not looking for a job-although they put resumes on-line, lives in Mom’s basement, freewill defecators need SOMETHING to do over the Winter???
    Don’t worry though, they actually HAVE created jobs! Unions are paying homeless people to ‘occupy’ over the Winter.

    Looks fun, may also get rid of some built up rage against these ows fools if you got any. My only problem with it is it’s unrealistic, the ows people would of peed their pants and fainted when they were fired upon.
    Problem is the ows are on the side of evil and are by all standards dumb and crazy. They will look at this game side with the bad guys and let it influence how they think. While getting high they will let the worm slip into their mind and think of how cool it would be how grand they could become and start planning. Get ready guys 2012 is already gonna be nuts, 2013 might be Road Warrior times lol.

      On second thought, this game is almost a game about killing mentally challenged people…. I mean really ows people are dumb as dirt, one policy is in opposition to another one of their policies and they are to stupid to know it. Sure some understand what they are doing, but they are racist elitist that think they need to clean out the gene pool of all “unwanteds” but even they are morons because they couldn’t get a logical cover policy that you could apply across the board of what they advocate. sigh…..

    Although I’d consider the key players of OWS terrorists….I tend to think of the majority as misguided hooligans led astray….

    That being said…this game will only play right into the hands of the radicals who spawned this movement to claim that “the man” is “falsely portraying” them as terrorists, and will start nazi-ing up >.>

    That you have adopted some medieval concept towards a THING called wall street, is in itself an ideological world view. The Ancients often worshiped to appease the SUN god or Volcano. Today, your cult has picked a place to demonize, yes its a metaphor, but still it serves it’s purpose as the evil that eats soals for its nourishment. It is a quaint religion you have invented.       Games are more for adults than kids. That’s like saying movies and TV shows are only for kids. Tom Clancy is behind Rainbow Six and the people that make them are adults and are know how the world is. I play games and I am doing what I can to return our country to the way it should be.

      Maybe you should stop lumping people and that like certain things that don’t fit your view of the world and how it should be into the category of irresponsible.
