Anti-Semitic Incidents Increase in America for the First Time Since 2004

Number of Antisemitic Incidents in America Increases for the First Time Since 2004Anti-Semitism is, unfortunately, still alive and well here in America. According to the Anti-Defamation League’s “Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents,” the number of anti-Jewish incidents in the United States increased last year for the first time since 2004.

According to the Jewish Forward, “The audit tracks assaults, vandalism and harassment reported during the calendar year in 45 states and the District of Columbia.” Studying these issues provides insight on the discrimination that this particular group faces in modern-day society.

This most recent ADL audit shows that there were 1,239 reported incidents in 2010, which is up slightly from the 1,211 that were reported in 2009. The current report claims that there were 22 physical assaults, 900 instances of harassment and 317 cases of vandalism last year.

According to a press release, “Continuing a longtime trend, the states with the highest totals were those with large Jewish populations.” Thus, California (297), New York (205) and New Jersey (130) led in terms of the highest number of incidents.

Of course, it’s important to note that the aforementioned numbers only include the incidents that were reported. It’s possible that there were many more crimes that simply went unreported.

While these numbers are certainly concerning, it was back in 2004 that the record high — 1,821 incidents — was reached. Even considering the current rise, the 2010 number is much lower.

In speaking about the numbers Abraham Foxman, national director of the ADL, said:

“While we have come a long way in society as Jews have been accepted into the mainstream, America is still not immune to anti-Semitism and bigotry.

The good news is that we have continued to enjoy a period of relative calm, where the overall numbers are mostly unchanged and the incidents isolated. But the bad news is that for all our efforts to educate, to raise awareness and to legislate, anti-Jewish incidents remain a disturbing part of the American Jewish experience.”

Amanda Susskind, who is the regional director for the Anti-Defamation League’s Los Angeles Office, explains:

“Honestly, one of the things we do see in terms of trends is a lot of, surprising number of incidents happening in schools and even elementary schools. We are kind of surprised about that.”

Certainly, these numbers could be worse. But considering the ongoing issues that are happening across the globe, the increase, although slight, should caution educators and community leaders, alike, to continue monitoring the situation. You can read the entire report here.

      Obama himself proves that he is anti semite by his words and behavior. Otherwise we have little proof of anything about this man because he was never vetted and has been protected by the left and by the MSM since he was a candidate for President. We can’t prove he is an American or a Kenyen. We can’t prove he is a Christian or a Muslim. We can’t prove he ever graduated from college or what his GPA was. We can’t prove anything about this man except that he is destroying this country.

      As the Muslim population increases in this country, Anti-Jewish sentiment will increase.

      And, since it is Muslims who are involved in about 99% of it all, calling it “anti-semitism” isn’t correct, because most all Muslims are semites themselves,

      Unless the ethnicity of the perpetrators change the press is going to have to call it anti-Jewish instead of anti-semitic.

      And, I’m pretty sure it will get far worse than it is right now, because the activity picks up everytime Israel bombs or attacks the Palestinians and other Middle Easterners, and it looks like that’s not going to abate any time soon.

    the bible specifically said there would be a grace period for the Jews to leave all the countries they have been scattered to (IE Russia America Europe etc) to go back to Israel, and then there would be “hunters,” the book of Jeremiah said, who would chase them out of the countries they are/where in.

    not that its Gods will, just the time appointed has come.

    with that said God is still the God of the Jews. PRAISE GOD the bible says the church isn’t appointed unto wrath. the bible says the Jews have been gathered back to Israel for wrath. (7 year tribulation, “Jacobs troubles”).

      Please stop being so deliberately obtuse. Who was the first person Obama called when he won his presidency? Obama has openly stated that he would negotiate with Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah. He supported the Arab spring even after there have been several events held in Egypt that were anti semitic. Did you not even watch any of the Obama and Netanyahu discussions? Obama said Israel must go back to pre 67 borders before peace can be negotiated. There is more from this administration but I’ve fed the troll enough.

    Do not think for one minute that obama and holder are not inadvertently behind all of this unrest and racism. Since the Kenyan arrived, we have seen many more cases of racist attacks by blacks on whites. It is not a lie…look up the numbers and percentages and see. Their signal to begin was the refusal of holder’s DOJ to prosecute the black panthers who stood with night sticks at a voting terminal/booth which is in clear violation of the law. Now, the Jews are getting attacked. Obama spouts a lot of rhetoric but this all is his making.. All he has left is to try and destroy as much of the country as he can.

      We must not allow fear and hate toward Jews and around the world or here in the United States to take control of our country “Under God” for it is obvious that Christianity played an important part in our own nation history, and heritage for our foundation is based upon “Faith in God” today and tomorrow.
      If hate and fear are allowed too destroy and to kill innocent Jews, do you seriously doubt that Christians will not be far behind, or that democracy will not threaten. Our own American Values and way of life is today at risk, for if the American people will not stand up and fight for our own values, how can you ever expect others too respect the United States of America.
      As a Conservative Christian and proud of it, I honor and respect the Holy Scriptures as the true inspired Holy words of our Heavenly Father, for they are black and white with no gray issues. Our responsibilities as a Christian nation is very clear to me, that is to honor and to respect the commandments and the Nation of Israel, the land of our Heavenly Father’s chosen people.

    Good thing the great and powerful Obama is in office to unify us all !!!!!!

    You see, you all fail to see the impact he’s actually made to bring all races together, because if Obama wasn’t in office, we would have lost more ground on race relations and things would be alot worse off. You see like Obama’s jobs bill, we are counting a race relation “saved” as a “new” positive race relation in America.

    Now of course, like Obama’s previous job endeavors, there will be no way to actually describe what formula we use to guage how many actual race relations are infact saved or made better, so he’ll allow his fawning media to handle that for him by either downplaying, distracting, or flat out omitting it.

    As a Jewish person setting here typing a reply to this article. I’m reminded of the history of the Jewish people. The Jews believe we’re the Suffering Servant(s) of G-d. No greater proof then the suffrage of Jews from the past to today. Jews need to unite and support other Jews. Divided we fall, Untied we stand.
