AP: Bachmann Uses Holocaust to Illustrate Tax Point

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann on Saturday described the loss of “economic liberty” that young Americans face today as a “flash point of history” in which the younger generation will ask what their elders did to stop it.
In a speech to New Hampshire Republicans, Bachmann recounted learning about a horrific time in history as a child — the Holocaust — and wondering if her mother did anything to stop it. She said she was shocked to hear that many Americans weren’t aware that millions of Jews had died until after World War II ended.
Bachmann said the next generation will ask similar questions about what their elders did to prevent them from facing a huge tax burden.
“I tell you this story because I think in our day and time, there is no analogy to that horrific action,” she said, referring to the Holocaust. “But only to say, we are seeing eclipsed in front of our eyes a similar death and a similar taking away. It is this disenfranchisement that I think we have to answer to.”
The generation of Americans just entering the work force now could eventually see 75 percent of their earnings sucked up by income taxes, Social Security and Medicare, Bachmann said. Those young workers are going to wonder what people were doing while “watching quite literally our economic liberty pulled out from under us.”
“The question comes down to this: what will you say to that next generation about what you did to make sure that wouldn’t be their fate?” she said.
Bachmann, along with fellow potential presidential hopefuls Rick Santorum and Tim Pawlenty, spoke at a forum organized by “We the People,” a conservative organization created by former congressional candidate Jennifer Horn.

Posted on April 30, 2011 at 2:52pmmy 1st thought was, why do you make statements like this, cause the left will eat you alive. My 2nd thought is, what a great comparison. Cause this is not a game, this is real. We better start standing up for what is right and do something about it.
Actually I think my 1st thought was about the maturity of someone that gets excited about being FIRST…

By the way, I have a progressive here in my apartment complex who is going on a tear about how President Lincoln was as bad as Hitler for – in his words: “Instigating a campaign of genocide and mass social reformation upon a liberated people who only desired to live their lives in peace and harmony with all of their fellow mankind.”
When directed to the single fact of the Confederates firing the first shots, he said it “did not matter the facts of a fictional history that needs to be rewritten for the modern day.”
His exact words.

If I get what Bachmann is trying to get across is the point of Accountability and Responsibility.
The American people stood by while the reports came out of the holocaust during the war; and in some cases before we even got involved. So it is with this economy and our failure to reign in the government and its out of control spending and debt. Those who are not doing anything about it will be accountable to explain why they chose to do nothing.

Posted on April 30, 2011 at 2:44pmBachmann is right on this point though, there will come a time when the next generation will ask why we did nothing, if indeed nothing gets done, to reign in the government, the deficit and the debt. What excuse will be given to the destruction of the economy and the future of generations for the expense of one right now?
The holocaust was reported in the nation while it was ongoing; it is amazing the silence met by the people of this nation, just as many Germans claimed not to know what their own government was in the process of doing.
A lesson for everyone to learn…again.

Posted on April 30, 2011 at 2:37pmHer analogy is not that far off. Millions will die due to a destroyed standard of living and a destroyed health care system. Starvation will abound due to the dollar being worthless. Millions more will turn to drugs and alcohol to numb their existence, as they did in the old soviet union. We are living in the last great days unless there is a drastic awakening. Currently, I see little chance of that happening with our elected officials.

Posted on April 30, 2011 at 2:36pmEntering the workforce to get a job? Better start bringing jobs back to the USA. Or there is going to be a problem in 5-6 years. The biggest problem is going to be just finding a job. Take a step back before just assuming that there will be a job just waiting.

Report Post »Mgindi26
Posted on April 30, 2011 at 9:44pmOk let’s be clear she did not compare the holocaust to the economy or taxes.what she is comparing is the inaction of people when shown evidence of an impending break in history. How when people have a chance to do something to prevent a problem in the future and don’t take that action future generations will and do ask why was nothing done when it could have been prevented.
Report Post »As a jew I find nothing offensive I’m her remarks. And she made it clear that she wasn’t computing taxes to the death of millions.

Posted on April 30, 2011 at 11:14pmNot a one of you understand….. the Constitution DOES give Us a way to rid ourselves of “despots/usurpers”…. The sad thing is that our “Justice” branch does not have any “UNITS”.
The media, our “representatives” and our justice sections have been co-opted and now we have a usurper in the Executive Branch. HIS “Birth Certificate” IDENTIFIES Him as a DUAL-CITIZEN (Through His Father) thus NOT QUALIFIED FOR THE OFFICE that he currently holds……
The ONLY reason why he’s in “power” is because people like Nazi Pelosi AND Whorehouse Harry Reid (among others……) FREAKIN’ ALLOWED Herr Dipstick to get as far as he did…… They ARE complicit[sic] and Should be charged with TREASON. I even wonder why McCain didn’t challenge the situation considering how much “swamp water” he had to wade through in order to be declared “Natural Born” by the Senate….. A Congressional Resolution that obozo SPONSORED AND SIGNED OFF ON….. (hello kettle, this is pot.)
I don’t know about you lot…… when my kids ask Me; “What Did You Do?…….” I’ll be able to tell them about how I Questioned the “Usurper” from the beginning…. and “tweaked” some last nerves along the way.
