AP: Dems Steer Clear of ObamaCare

WASHINGTON – It happens so rarely, it makes news: A few Democratic candidates have started to run television ads daring to defend President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.
Most Democrats are trying to avoid campaigning on what should have been the party’s signature issue, but the lonely bunch who’ve stuck their necks out may finally be hitting on a message. Some are using constituents to vouch for specific benefits that only recently took effect, changes whose poll-tested popularity isn’t in question.
The argument won’t stop on Nov. 2. Democrats will have to keep defending the health care law in the next Congress and on into the 2012 presidential and congressional campaign. And they badly need to find their voice with a message that can connect with middle-class voters.
“One thing has helped them,” said Celinda Lake, a Democratic pollster. “On Sept. 23 a bunch of benefits went into effect, and Democrats had something real to talk about as opposed to theoretical. If they don’t talk about it, they’ll get attacked, so they might as well put out their own point of view.”
The law‘s big coverage expansion to more than 30 million uninsured people doesn’t come until 2014, along with a complete ban on insurers turning away those with medical problems. But people now renewing their plan for next year are already starting to see some benefits, including preventive services without copayments and coverage for young adults up to age 26 on a parent’s policy.
There’s no authoritative tally of the ads run by Democrats on health care, but a rough count suggests that those who voted against the law are advertising it more than those who supported its hard-fought passage. At least a dozen Democrats have taken pains in their ads to remind constituents that they voted “No.”
Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Miss., labeled the plan “Obamacare,” adopting the disparaging term Republicans are fond of. And Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark., has a new ad that says “he stood up to (Speaker Nancy) Pelosi and Washington insiders and voted against their health care overhaul.”
Still, at least seven Democrats have run ads in favor of the new law. Most are in competitive races, and more are cropping up.
They have common themes. Almost all attempt to link Republican opponents to the health insurance industry. They focus on benefits already in effect, such as protection for children against being denied coverage because of medical problems And some use constituents in cameo appearances.
A template of sorts is an ad by embattled Sen. Russell Feingold, D-Wis., first aired around the beginning of the month. It hits all the themes, and finishes with constituents telling his opponent businessman Ron Johnson: “Hands off my health care.”
Bring it on, say Republicans.
“I‘m all for letting Democrats spend their money defending a bill most people don’t want,” said Glen Bolger, a GOP pollster. “They are talking small-ball stuff, and the American people are looking at the big picture and not liking what they’re seeing.”
Bolger says Republicans don’t have to back off their “repeal and replace” slogan, even if Democrats are becoming bolder about the issue.
But Republicans may have to tweak the message. “You have to make it clear that there are certain elements of the bill that would be in the Republican plan as well,” said Bolger. Translation: Small-ball can win a close game, too.
It was eight months ago that Obama and his administration toasted passage of the health care bill — with champagne on the Truman balcony at the White House — and Democrats boasted that voters would hail the law. The party saw it as an achievement that had eluded scores of presidents, and perhaps cost Democrats control of Congress in President Bill Clinton’s first midterms.
Obama challenged GOP lawmakers to talk repeal.
“Go for it,” he said in Iowa in March. “If these congressmen in Washington want to come here in Iowa and tell small-business owners that they plan to take away their tax credits and essentially raise their taxes, be my guest.”
Republicans not only clamored for repeal, state attorneys general took the fight to the federal courts.
Last week, a judge in Florida allowed a lawsuit to advance, ruling that the constitutionality of the law’s requirement for most Americans to carry coverage deserves to be fully debated. Earlier, a judge in Michigan dismissed a similar challenge.
And controversy over the law’s ripple effects continues. In a letter obtained by The Associated Press on Monday, Boeing became the latest company to signal a potential downside for insured employees, citing the legislation as part of the reason it’s shifting more medical costs to workers next year.
Whether standing up for health care overhaul in their ads will help any Democratic candidates remains to be seen. But several in competitive races are gambling that it will. They include Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Reps. Dina Titus of Nevada, Earl Pomeroy of North Dakota and Scott Murphy of New York.
Murphy’s ad directly challenges the Republican call for repeal with a self-styled “reality check” that implies his opponent would bring back pre-existing condition denials, lifetime dollar limits on coverage and copayments for mammograms and colon screenings, while leaving the Medicare prescription coverage gap in place. The law begins to close the so-called doughnut hole next year.
Murphy rival Chris Gibson, a retired Army colonel, has run extensive ads calling for health care repeal.
“I wouldn’t say this ad is defensive,” responded Josh Schwerin, a Murphy spokesman. “It’s the other side of the argument. It’s very important for people to understand what repeal means.”

What I think is apparent to most Americans is that it wasn’t necessary to destroy the best health care system in the world to get these bunch of benefits. There were many proposals that Obama refused to consider that included benefits without socializing health care.
What they did is like hiring a gardening service to rid your lawn of crab grass and then finding out that they tore out the lawn and replaced it with green cement. You get the benefit of no crab grass but the lawn is gone.

Posted on October 19, 2010 at 9:10amI just got my benefits package from my employer and still am going through it to find out how bad OBAMACARE is. One issue is hidden taxes. There is a great one on Life Insurance. If you pay for more than $50k in Life Insurance from an Employer Benefit then the US Government will tax you based on how much you want in life insurance and how old you are. Basically you pay the Government to be covered – for someone 52 years old wanting $250k, the US Government taxes you $46/month and the rate will rise as you age. This is Age Discrimination as well as being taxed for no value received. OBAMACARE is a true strangle on the American Life.

Posted on October 19, 2010 at 8:46amOur President has a courageous plan to save both Social Security and Medicare – read on!
The Social Security Trust Fund is almost bankrupt and the Medicare trust fund is bankrupt. The problem has been apparent for years but until now no one has advanced a plan to save these popular programs.
At last, our President has the courage to propose a solution! It is so simple that one wonders why no one thought of it before. The solution?
Enact a “Health Care Reform Bill” the severely rations health care to the elderly. This will save the Medicare Trust Fund and allow it to be used to reward the Presidents political cronies and provide health care for “deserving Illegal Aliens.”
Deprived of medical care, the lifespan of the elderly will be reduced, depleting the number of recipients of the Social Security Trust Fund, saving that popular program.
Both problems solved! Why did it take so long to find such a simple solution?
Of course, the Congress and the President are exempted from the solution so they can perpetuate the problem.

Posted on October 19, 2010 at 8:57amNo doubt correct. I want to be proven wrong on this, honestly I do, but there’s something so odd about the utter smugness of the Left right now, even facing an entire nation risen up against them. The reason for this smugness is debatable; however there seem to be two strong alternate possibilities for its presence:
1). The election is going to be monkey-wrenched by the Left, full on blatant voter fraud, the kinds of which even the Dems would have blushed at ten years ago. Most or all of them “remain seated”. They assume a “we dare you to oppose this” attitude, violence will ensue, and we’re screwed.
2) The election goes the way we all know it will, the Right breaks the ability of Obama to govern the way he wants to. He responds by sending out the violent leftist troops to the streets, and the firebombing and looting begins in full order, meanwhile, the lame ducks pass every totalitarian wet dream they’ve ever dreamt of in a flurry of legislation. To “respond to the chaos” Obama signs executive orders enabling all kinds of new actions that we would have once called “martial law”. Violence is met by violence and we’re screwed. Well, technically they’re screwed, we outnumber and outgun them 100:1 if gun ownership numbers are to be believed, but ultimately a lot of pain and blood and horror.
Again, hoping I’m wrong. Maybe, just maybe, they‘re too fargin’ stupid to see the writing on the wall, too arrogant to even consider that the majority of the people oppose them on principle, and they will go down quietly. We’ll defund Nazicare for 2 years, vote Obama out and then have it fully repealed. That’s the perfect scenario, but given the dangerous snakes we’re dealing with, somewhat unlikely. We’ll see.

Posted on October 19, 2010 at 7:09amOur great country was founded by and for the citizens of the thirteen colonies. It was designed to insure that a central government was controlled and limited by representatives of those citizens. It was given a limited amount of power, with many checks and balances, to secure the rights and freedoms for its citizens. They were making sure that an American Government would and could not become as Britian had. England enacted laws and taxes on their American subjects, but without allowing the colonies a say in their government. Ignoring the will of the people of America, they bullied and took away what limited rights they had and tried to force them to comply. Sound familiar? Yes, we don’t have to look far across the Atlantic at a despotic leader, we have only to look at the Oval Office in Washington, D. C. and to those whom we had entrusted the liberties of the people and the country. Our representatives, Senate and the House, are there to represent the will of the people. Instead, they have consistently lied to their constituents, both during campaigns and when in office. They have consistently robbed the American people, not only of their money, but also by stealing their liberties, little by little. The incumbent office holders allow themselves to be above the law, they allow themselves to steal by back-room corrupt deals and the like. They ignore the very people who put them in office, they even resort to passing laws, under cover of darkness. They hide laws and corrupt deals in the midst of thousand of pages of laws. This has always been a trick of unethical lawyers. Their mindset is to bog down any opposition by inudating them with mountains of paperwork. Then, they laugh and call the people stupid and ignorant, or worse! No doubt, I could go on and on. Their lack of character, morals and ethics makes them unfit to be employed anywhere, let alone entrusted with the security, freedom, and economic growth of this great country. They have taken your freedom to worship, especially targeting Christianity. They have tried to rewrite the American history, to further their agendas, just like the Moslems continue to do with Israel.
Soon after deciding what sort of Government America was to become, that very question was asked of Benjamin Franklin. In reply Franklin said, “A Republic….if we can keep it”. This is a question that should be upon the lips of all true American patriots. If we can’t or more correctly, if we won’t, then we don’t deserve it. The choice is up to us, the American people, and the answer should be and must be yes we will!
You’re probably asking how do we insure that we will keep this nation a free Republic. Oh, we voted for only those who promised no more taxes, no more spending, etc., etc. Of course they all were proven to be liars again (or should I have said they were just not quite forthcoming or perhaps they were a little disingenuious?). Then we did the “best of the two evils” choice. This was no different than the “Magician’s Choice” trick! We now know that there is no difference between Republicans and the Democrats when it comes to which is telling the truth. Neither has the best interest of America at heart, probably not even in mind! Their goal is simply to acquire power, money, more power and more money while doing and saying anything to remain in office.
So what is the answer? They don’t listen when the people, overwhelmingly, protest and tries to voice their opposition. So the American people need to get their UNDIVIDED attention. How? WE THE PEOPLE, must vote any and all incumbents out of office. It doesn’t matter if they are better than most. If they haven’t been part of the solution, then they are part of the problem. THEY MUST KNOW AND WE MUST LET THEM KNOW THAT GOVERNMENT WILL NO LONGER BE RUN BY ROUGUE LAWYERS AND OPPORTUNISTS, PROGRESSIVES (AKA SOCIALISTS), ETC. THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN MODERN-DAY CARPETBAGGERS OR WANNA-BE DICTATORS. THEY MUST BE EDUCATED TO THE FACT THAT THEY WILL BE VOTED OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN, UNTIL THEY LEARN THAT OUR REPRESENTATIVES ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO RUN THEIR OWN VERISON OF CRIME, INC.
AND THOSE THAT ARE ELECTED TO OFFICE, BUT CONTINUE TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THEIR OWN BENEFIT WILL SOON LEARN THEY WILL HAVE ONLY ONE TERM IN OFFICE.
We, the people, need to lobby our newly elected representatives to enact new laws to insure ALL our freedoms, our security, etc. Enact laws that ethical or criminal behavior of representatives will be prosecuted swiftly and severly, with no possibility of any pardon…not by a state Governor nor by a President! Enact laws or amendments to limit a President to one term only, ensuring that any damage to our country will not be as damaging as is obvious with this Government. Further limit the terms of our Representatives, both in the Senate and the House. Imperative to limit the term of all Supreme Court Justices to no more than an eight year term and make an amendment that the justices can no longer re-interpret the Constitution, but uphold the laws as it was written and intended by the original framers.
So, the bottom line is this: unless the American people get the undivided attention of those in government…when you and your family members are homeless and hungry or at the very least jobless…remember, you have only yourselves to blame.
THE ONLY WAY TO INSURE THAT YOUR FUTURE REPRESENTATIVES WILL LISTEN TO ITS CONSTITUENTS IS VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS!!! FROM THAT POINT ON, EACH REPRESENTATIVE MUST KNOW WE WILL VOTE THEM OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTIL WE HAVE RESPONSIBLE REPRESENTATIVES THAT UNDERSTAND THEY ARE THERE FOR THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

They simply gave up any principles they might have once had to follow this cockroach President. They did it for their own gain and profit, they did it for power and like Obama (aka cockroach) they turned their backs on the very people who put them in office. America knows this and know its time for payback. Did they think that America would not be heard in November. These filthy traitors to America are going to pay a dear price, and even if they are able to retire with those life long annuities they voted for themselves, they have to know in their hearts they have betrayed this great country and their neighbors know it. They may enjoy their unjust enrichment for a while, but one day they will have to stand tall for what they did. Part of that standing tall starts in November. Get ready for your cockroach pink slips boys and girls. Your illustrious cockroach leader has taken you down the path to hell and now its time for payback from America. Sad really…

Each and every one of these guys either went on to make millions in the private sector because of their ‘congressional pedigree’, and they expect the American taxpayer to fund their pensions, yr after yr? Take for example Bill Clinton… how much money is he getting from hard working Americans, apart from the cost of Secret Service? Also, did these deadbeats actually contribute to their pension funds? Posted on October 19, 2010 at 1:16amI get so sick and tired of the Democrats touting children covered on their parents health care until the age of 26 as being a BIG, BIG improvement. The federal government mandated years ago that children had to be covered up to age 25 unless you had a self-insured plan (you were a large employer and wrote the coverage for your own employees). If you had a standard employer plan with Blue Cross, CIGNA, United Healthcare, etc. the coverage was already there until age 25. Also, all of this crap about people not being able to change jobs or lose their health care is bogus too. The federal government mandated COBRA coverage years ago. Yes, COBRA coverage is high, but most people changing jobs did not need COBRA. As long as the break in coverage was less than 63 days no one had to worry about pre-existing conditions, because they did not apply. And if the new company you were going to had a waiting period for your new coverage to start the waiting period did not count toward the 63 days. The pre-existing condition clause in the new employer coverage only applied for medical conditions for which you had gone to the doctor 3-6 months before going on the new employer insurance. And if the pre-existing condition did apply it was only for a 6 month period. (Years ago it used to be 12 months) So what Obamacare has done is once again take something that had some problems and made a disaster out of it.

I can see many claims coming from the Progressives alleging no end to voter frauds, miscounting of the ballots, not allowing the military overseas ballots (ones not sent) to count/not count, etc. and to tie it up so that the justice department or someone of the activist Progressive judges will cause the rightfully won seats to go unfulfilled.
It may even come to the point where Pelosi, Obama and/or a mix of the Progressives launch a modern political coup to grab power – even if just by denying newly appointed Represenatives and Senators their rightfully won seating.
Also Pelosi and the Obama admin probably will do a lame-duck session suicide pack to cram down our throats everything that is possible.
Pray america, the time is here for change ready or not, the storm is here; the destiny of this land, our home and the greatest in the world lies with us and the Almighty.
