AP‘s ’Fact Check’ Again Hammers Obama: Jobs Plan Makes ‘Giant Leaps’

WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s a startling statistic on the state of American schools: An estimated 280,000 teaching and other education jobs could be lost in the coming year, according to the White House.
As the Senate prepares for a showdown vote on the jobs bill Tuesday, President Barack Obama is promising to not only save the education jobs at risk, but to support a total of 400,000 education jobs by actions such as rehiring teachers already laid off.
In estimating the potential number of jobs that could be lost and how many his plan could save, the White House makes giant leaps. A look at the claims and how they compare with the facts:

OBAMA: “Now, this bill will prevent up to 280,000 teachers from losing their jobs. This bill will support almost 40,000 jobs right here in the great state of Texas. So here’s what I need you to do: Tell Congress to pass this bill and put teachers back in the classroom where they belong,” Obama said Oct. 4 at Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas.
THE FACTS: There’s no doubt that public schools, which rely heavily on state dollars, are hurting. Since 2008, when the economy collapsed, about 294,000 education jobs have been lost, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That figure includes not only public school teachers, but also administrative and support personnel and employees of colleges and universities. In desperation, school districts have not only laid off teachers and aides but taken measures such as eliminating pre-K programs, going to a four-day school week and cutting bus routes.
Obama is predicting that without his legislation, nearly as many jobs will be lost this school year as in the past three school years combined. In a report released this month titled “Teacher Jobs at Risk,“ the White House says ”as many as” 280,000 teacher jobs are at risk in the coming year. But to get to that number, the White House makes a lot of assumptions.
The administration says it started with projected state budget shortfalls in a report from the liberal Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. It then made a series of assumptions, including that spending cuts in each state would be applied proportionally across major budget categories, and that school salaries would be cut in proportion to their share of total spending for K-12 education. The spending cuts were then converted into numbers of jobs based on teacher pay in each state.
Even the group the White House relied on for its data says you can’t do that. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities said in another report that “it is not possible to calculate directly the additional loss of jobs resulting from state education budget cuts.”

WHITE HOUSE REPORT: Obama’s plan, which would invest $30 billion in preserving teacher jobs, “will provide support for nearly 400,000 education jobs, enough for states to avoid harmful layoffs, rehire tens of thousands of teachers who lost their jobs over the past three years, preserve or extend the regular school day and school year, and support important after-school activities.” It said funding would be targeted to districts most in need of support, especially those with a high share of students living in poverty.
THE FACTS: As the Obama administration learned in its first round of economic stimulus spending, it’s nearly impossible to quantify how many jobs are created or saved through infusions of federal dollars. In that $787 billion program two years ago, the White House eventually abandoned its controversial method to count jobs after numerous errors were found.

The national average teacher’s salary is roughly $40,000. Multiply that by 400,000 teachers, and you get a total cost of $14 billion. So where does the other $16 billion go? Does it cost $16 billion just to distribute the funds?
One could argue that the money will be used to keep teachers employed over next year as well — but that’s baloney. Anybody that’s worked in public schools knows that money given to schools will be spent in the same year it is received. School districts can’t afford to report a budget surplus at the end of the fiscal year because that will only mean fewer tax dollars for them next year.
So what happens to the other $16 billion, Barry? Care to comment on that?

On page 133 of President Obama’s “The American Job Act”, Sec.376. states;
“Abrogation of State Immunity- A State shall not be immune under the 11th Amendment to the
Constitution from a suit brought in a Federal court of competent jurisdiction for a violation of this Act.
A State’s receipt or use of Federal financial assistance for any program or activity of a State shall constitute a waiver of sovereign immunity, under the 11th Amendment to the Constitution or otherwise, to a suit brought by an employee or applicant of that program or activity under this Act for a remedy authorized under Section 375(c) of this Act.”
And;
Article. I. Section. 7.
Clause 1: All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.
So what gives the Attacker in Chief the power to introduce a Bill that raises revenues?

We all know that MSNBC is in the pocket of Obama, right? Today MSNBC reported that a Romney Adviser met with Obama 3 times about ObamaCare off of RomneyCare. The truth is that this is a recycled report, in order to destroy Romney’s campaign. The truth is Democrats have been using this guy as an adviser for years, even named the Democrat Parties ‘most influential health care expert.’ Truth is he met with Romney only once. I called the offices of Rubio, Canter and Boehner to let them know so they could counter Obama’s continuing barage of, “What don’t you like about my plan”? Haven’t seen any of them TV saying anything about it. Canter‘s assistant told me not to worry because it’s not going to be passed. I told him that’s not the point. The point was to let the voting public know about Obama’s tricks. I also sent this to Glenn‘s people and Glenn hasn’t mentioned one word about it. I’ll keep trying. Thanks.

I know what you mean. I’ve heard of this from almost the beginning…about states losing their soverignty (ok, rough day, however you spell that). I know how Glenn feels. People are just now saying things I said almost 3 years ago. Obama is not an idiot, he’s following a game plan. Cloward and Piven, destroy America. He couldn’t get the Tea Party to revolt and cause rampant violence, even with all the Democrats trying to say they were. So now he’s turning to those he can depend on to get violent. I said when he first got in office that he would do everything he could to suspend elections. A president can suspend elections in war (which Obama is trying to start in the Middle East) and when martial law is declared.

You could also go back even farther and it gets much worse than that like in the tens of thousands of jobs shipped to China and other countries. Does anyone really think this president is trying to improve the job market for Americans or is it more improving the jobs market for other countries? We are screwed it‘s over there is no way even if the Republican controlled Congress doesn’t pass his Bill he will sign it through executive order.

Posted on October 11, 2011 at 1:07pmOur school district hired two counselors at the Jr. High level to help kids decide where they want to go and what they want to do so they can take the right courses at the right time so they can get jobs. So, who helped them before? Our district supervisor said until now they had to wait until they got to high school to get counseled properly. Really? What about parents, friends, pastors? Of course the gov’t has to get involved. Also, they admitted that when the money ran out for these posts, they would just put it into the budget. Well, if we did without them before, now after bailout money, now we will be stuck with keeping them forever. This is what he means by saving jobs, just made up crap we didn‘t need then and don’t need now. And pre-K? Really? They just want to get them younger so they can start indoctrination sooner, the sooner the better. And leave us with the bill. Our property tax is 90% school district and 10% other city services like fire and police, roads, and parks. What a crock! Head start has been proven over and over, study, after study, that it is just a boondogle, it sounds good in theory, but in reality is a huge waste of money. I know parents that just sit on their ass at home, or in coffee shops drinking expensive lattes while their toddlers and newborns (yes, newborns!) go to head start. The parents are the one’s who should be doing the “head start” stuff, that’s what parents are for! Idiots! Wasters of money!
