Are Dems, Libs Really Less Likely to Believe in the Christian Bible?

Are Dems, Libs Really Less Likely to Believe in the Christian Bible? On Friday, some fascinating research emerged that focuses on Biblical Christianity in America. Among the findings, a plurality of Americans believe the Bible is the “inspired word of God,” and conservatives and Republicans are more likely to take the Bible literally.

Gallup concludes its research by writing that this most recent research reaffirms that fact that the “United States is a predominantly Christian nation and that Americans overwhelmingly believe in God.”

Overall, it was found that three in 10 Americans do, indeed, interpret the Bible literally. These individuals believe that the holy book’s words come from God directly. A plurality of Americans, though — 49 percent to be precise — claim that the Bible is the inspired word of God, but that it shouldn’t be taken literally. An additional 17 percent see the Bible as an ancient book of stories recorded by human beings.

Are Dems, Libs Really Less Likely to Believe in the Christian Bible?

The polling firm’s political findings are equally interesting. It’s no secret that religious affiliation often impacts political decisions among members of the American electorate. According to Gallup:

Given the strong link between religion and politics in the U.S., it is not surprising that views of the Bible vary by party identification and ideology. The poll finds 42% of Republicans, compared with 23% of independents and 27% of Democrats, saying the Bible is literally true.

Conservatives are much more likely than moderates and liberals to believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible. In fact, conservatives are as likely to believe the Bible is the actual word of God as to believe it is the inspired word of God.

Are Dems, Libs Really Less Likely to Believe in the Christian Bible?Conservatives are the least likely to believe that the Bible is simply a book of fables (7 percent). Moderates (20 percent) and liberals (31 percent), though, are much more likely to accept this notion. However, 48 percent of liberals and 55 percent of Moderates believe that the Bible is the “inspired word of God). Still, when it comes to the belief that the words actually come from God, Republicans (46 percent) trump both groups.

@mikenleeds…I have Christian friends who are Democrats and they abhor abortion. They‘re blue dogs who aren’t very political, and don’t realize the Dem Party has become so radically liberal. You are right on the mark there.
I abhor being called a Christian when you have dems, their supporters, those that stick up for them, politicians, and cults using that term.
The term Christians is found in the book of Acts where it was first used to describe the followers of Jesus as Christ like or little Christs.
The term has been perverted as badly as the the sign of God’s covenant with mankind that He would not destroy the earth by a flood again. The perverted and debase sexual deviates have now taken and used that as their symbol hoping that they will be protected from the flood of the lake of fire that they will swim in for all eternity.

We are called to be disciples of Jesus Christ our Creator and Lord and Savior.

Most critical thinkers come to logical conclusions. You don’t even have to be a critical thinker to come to the conclusion that a watch had a watch maker. Even you would might be able to discern that. How can you look at complexity and design far superior to a watch and say it came into existence with no intelligent design and no God?

Please spare us your anti-philosophical claptrap. Your energy would be better directed exploring the pretended autonomy of theoretical thought. Were you to actually examine your own beliefs, though you profess no belief in God/god, you would quickly discover that at the heart of your worldview you hold a belief in something as unconditionally nondependent, which is a religious belief!

When it comes to belief in something as the unconditionally, nondependent basis of realty, atheists are a lot like vegetarians. The term “vegetarian” tells you what a person doesn’t eat, in the same manner that the term “atheist” tells you what a person doesn’t believe. Neither term tells you what either eat or believe.

there’s no testable evidence, as you put it, that love exists. You belittle theists for compartmentalizing their illogical beliefs, when you do the very thing you belittle…if something cannot be proven within the compartmentalized scope of rules that YOU choose to believe in, then you consider it illogical and not worthy of belief. Even modern scientists, physicists and quantum theorists, no longer follow the static rules of Newtonian Physics as much anymore. They admit that there are things that happen that they cannot explain or “prove” with the static rules of science.

here are several arguments for the existence of God 1. From Desire. how come most humans have always desired to worship something beyone themselves. An example given by on Professor, imagine go to a world we the people all desired food but had no stomachs 2. the argument from cosmology, this is the Kalam 1. whatever begins to exist has cause. The universe began to exist 3. Therefore the universe had a cause. Then there is the argument from the “Fine-Tune for Life” 1. Tdhe fine-tuning of the universe is due to either physical necessity, chance, or design. 2 It is not due to physical necessity or chance. 3 Therefore, it is due to design. There is the moral argument. 1. If God does not exist, objective moral values and duties do not exist. 2 Objective moral values and duties do exist. 3 Therefore, God Exist. One other thing point to a creator DNA how does infromation come from non-life. We associate informantion with intelligence.

What is really shocking to me is that in none of the demographic groups do you have more than 6% left over when you add up the three choices. If there was ever a question to which “I don’t know” would be the best and smartest answer, this would be it. You get more than 6% don’t know if you conduct an election poll the night before the election. You would probably get more than 6% don’t know if you asked people “what color shoes are you wearing today?”

Two principles should be kept in mind:

    1. Liberals are by their nature skeptical of established authorities. That includes the church and the Bible. So they naturally believe in the Bible less than most conservatives. That does not mean they don’t believe at all, but their belief tends to be controlled by their own reason; what makes sense to them. Thus they are freer to dispence with those parts of the Bible they find hard top believe. they are inclined to see the Bible as needing the same adjustments as the Comnstitution.

    2. Never underestimate the capacity of men to believe inconsistently. thus, many Christians may believe in God and in the authority of his Word while supporting policies that any rational reading of the Word would condemn. They simply choose not to connect the dots, and any attempt to connect the dots for them they will interpret as a coersion of their conscience by a political ideology. What it will take to wake these people up is different from person to person, but often it will require the witness of someone they trust whose conservatism baffles them but who can present them a challenge to their mindset not easily brushed off.

Believing isn’t LIVING the WORD OF GOD. I can believe it is the divine, inspired word of GOD, but if I never open it to study its contents, what I believe about it doesn’t matter a hill of beans.

Most everyone believes in a god of sorts. Few believe in JESUS THE CHRIST THE LIVING SON OF GOD and follow HIS teachings and allow HIM to shape and to mold their lives. That is where we would find a huge dichotomy between the Conservatives (in both parties) and the liberals (ditto).

If the questions had been asked: Do you read the Bible? How often? Do you follow its precepts? Why or why not? The results would have been more accurate as to the division in AMERICA as to faith issues. IMHO

Democrats that subscribe to a political ideology of accepting abortion, homosexuality, social justice ideas of government redistribution of wealth and the expulsion of God from our schools and government are in direct conflict with the teachings of Christ.

Like a so called moderate Muslim. To be a true Muslim one must live and follow the trilogy of Mohammad. That is to follow every so called terrorist and jihadist fighting for world domination. Those who don’t are either lying and are infiltrating the enemy or are ignorant of the very religion they profess to follow.

Where one is ignorant of the teachings of Christ the other wishes to destroy Christ and replace it with Government dominating over all the people.

That’s the whole point, Ted. A liberal thinking Christian is more apt to believe only portions of the bible…but not the totality of it. They tend to feel that since there are some portions of the bible that are clearly illustrative and allegorical that they have the right to decide which parts of the bible are truth and which ones are not. Just like they get to decide which parts of the Constitution are really meant for today and which ones are not.

    Duh.

And I’d bet that of self-described liberals who accept the Bible, a solid percentage of those are Roman Catholics. For some reason, most Catholics tend to lean left — partly out of traditional Democratic Party loyalty, from a day when Democrats were not Red, and the influence of the American Council of Catholic Bishops, which is notoriously Leftish, aside from their one staunch position in opposition to prenatal infanticide.

Fortunately, Eastern Orthodoxy tends to the more conservative side of the aisle: further proof of its divine origin and continuing guidance from Christ.

If there be a great awakening then perhaps, just perhaps the ones who are bad but know goodness deep inside will come to join the right side of the fight, and the pure evil can go straight back to hell from whence they came. I am a believer in God but can’t reconcile the “Jesus” factor, I am a searcher however and I have a GoOD leader.

@ POVERTY.SUCKS – You said, “A note to parents, if your children disobey you by not doing what is told by you, what makes you think they’ll listen to God?” The bible says for this you should stone your child to death (Deuteronomy 21:18-21). Do you still believe that to be the word of god?

The Bible is divided into the old and new testament. If you study your Bible you will see that with the new testament came the new covenant through our Lord Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. That is why we are called Christians. I understand your desperate fight to justify the non-existence of God because deep in your soul you are terrified of this existence and therefore must fight it at all costs. You will have your day of terror when judgement comes.

The unbelief is a conscience choice to be decieved.

We shouldn’t be angry at skeptics, we should pray for them. All men and women know God exist, skeptics and atheists spend a great deal of time avoiding Him.

…”And they shall know, that I AM The Lord…” In the end, EVERY knee shall bow. Hallelujah!

I spend about as much time avoiding “him” as I do avoiding invisible pink unicorns.

      @Argumentum
LOOK OUT! There’s one behind the sofa!

Oh. No. I just performed a scientific experiment (I looked back there) and it’s gone.
