Are ‘Modern-Day Grinches‘ Stepping Up the ’War on Christmas?’ (Take the Poll)

Are modern-day Grinches intensifying their efforts to crack down on the Christmas spirit? Well — that depends on who you ask. While many believe wholeheartedly that atheists, among others, have waged a full-out war on the holiday season, others contend that the “War on Christmas” is a manufactured controversy.
Regardless of what one thinks, though, it’s hard to deny that bizarre instances seem to keep popping up all over the country. Yesterday, the Blaze brought you a report about Christmas carolers who were booted from a U.S. Post Office branch. And we’ve covered a number of incidents surrounding attacks by atheists on nativities (here’s one in Texas and another in California).

Here’s another example of anti-Christmas sentiment, as described by CBN News:
In the nation’s heartland, the city of Tulsa, Okla., referred to by some as “the buckle of the Bible belt,” recently took the word ‘Christmas’ out of it’s annual holiday parade.
In response, several churches organized their own Christmas parade and scheduled it at the exact same time as the city-sponsored event.
“People were singing because they were talking about Christmas and how great it was and it was pretty fun to watch,” parade watcher Chloe Tunnell said.
Considering these events, many, including CBN, are contending that the War on Christmas is worsening and that “modern grinches” are, indeed, intensifying their “efforts to take Christ out of the holiday.” Fox News‘ Bill O’Reilly has joined the chorus (as he does every year) of those speaking out this Christmas season against attacks on the religious nature of the holiday.
Below, see a special report that provides an overview on this year’s “War on Christmas”:
In the video, one atheist can be heard saying, “I think it‘s about time personally that people who don’t have any religion and don’t believe in God get a little bit of a voice.” While many would argue that everyone has a right to be heard at Christmas, some claim that atheists are more intent in stripping the season of references to Christ than ensuring they have an equal playing field for self-expression.
What do you think? Based on what you’ve seen so far this year, has the War on Christmas intensified? Take the poll:

I don’t say a mean thing to non-believers, in fact, when they make their feelings clear to me I do not speak of my faith again. I figure they will find out soon enough who is correct.

Posted on December 13, 2011 at 11:21pmOnre of my favorite banter replies have to be, “God still loves you” It drives them CRAZY. Then I tell them MERRY CHRISTMAS!! God bless them and smile! The fact that they can’t take my Christmas spirit from me gets them so upset and frustrated. As far as the Christmas decorations during this time of year, well, that is a statement of celebration. I don‘t understand why they feel so offended and I don’t care why. I don’t get offended when the Jewish put up their Manora and the decorations associated with Hanaka (I hope I spelled that correctly). I respect that they have their traditions and symbols just as any other religion. IN my opinion you can not be offended by inatimate objects.
I have a freind that is still messed up really bad from the action he saw in the military that was approached by one of those athiest. The Athiest was calling him a stupid fool for being indoctrinated into believing in a God. The athiest got in his face trying to antaganize a response. My buddy, after being physically pushed, pulled out his knife and offered to arrange a meeting between him and is afterlife, saying, “How about I send you to find out if there is a God”. I later asked him why he did that and he told me that they will not consider the real possibility of the existance of the almighty until it is a distinct possability they are going to have a “face to face” with GOD himself. That’s a little extreme but it is the truth.

Posted on December 14, 2011 at 10:31am@ jungle J – 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Matthew 7:16-20
So, what are these people producing? Are they light in a dark world or are they trying to spread darkness? I think we can absolutely know what is in their heart. Darkness cannot tolerate the light, and so they will always be at war. Only those with darkness firmly rooted in their heart would do some of the things these people are attempting, and these verses also say what will happen to those people. They will be thrown into the fire. It is not something to joke and make happy comments about like some others here though. I know some people I’m close to who could fit that mold, and I am anguished to think they might have to endure that if they don’t change.

It’s very interesting that you believe Nativity Scenes are on display to “entice” you. “Entice” you to do what?
Please don’t feel rejected, Libertarian, but, Nativity Scenes aren’t about you.
It’s like, if I was driving a 15 year old 4×4 pick-up and even tho it ran good, it was showing it’s miles and years and you drove by in a hot off the show-room floor 4×4 pickup. I would admire your truck, but I certainly wouldn’t be “enticed” to throw mud all over it and run it off the road because it was yours and not mine.
Before posting, I read thru the other comments. There are Atheists posting here who enjoy and have fun with some things about Christmas and just aren’t bothered by the things about Christmas, ie: Nativity Scenes, etc, that don’t apply to them.
Maybe the “insecure” folks are those who can‘t function when they are faced by issues that they don’t agree with. Secure folks are able to walk their walk without being so needy for approval. Secure folks have the courage of their convictions and are able to walk confidently in their convictions no matter what others think or are doing.
May I suggest, Libertarian, that you take a hard look at what “entices” you when you see Nativity Scenes. Therein might be the Key To You Living a Happy and Secure and Full Life Walking In Truth.
Even tho you don’t agree, Jesus Loves You! You not agreeing won’t change His Love For You. Talk About Being Secure! : -) M

No We Don’t!
No one knows a persons last thought, as they breathe their last, and what might transpire between that person and God in that final moment. As long as a person is on this side of eternity, that person can make that eternal decision.
The criminal crucified next to Jesus, very simply, said to Jesus: ” … Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.’ ” ~ Luke 23:42,43

When anyone says that they do not believe or that they do not think that Christ is part of the fabric of the entire world just ask them what year this is. When they reply 2011 then ask if they have a clue where the year that every inhabitant of this planet gauges time by comes from. The birth day of Christ of course. Posted on December 16, 2011 at 12:30amAs far as Christmas goes… This is AMERICA and if you want to celebrate it, you have the freedom to do so and should not be screwed with. I am not offended by people saying Merry Christmas and hope they are not offended by my responce of Happy Hanukka. I live in CHRISTMAS, FL and there is a year round Christmas tree right on the main street. I don’t have a problem with this as it neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. My views will be unpopular here but… I used to do the x-mas thing but found out it “really is” a pagan holiday. All manmade gods’ birthdays are on Dec. 25th. The son of the GOD of Abraham was not and could not have been born on this day. We are not to learn the ways of the heathen and worship GOD in this way. We have inherited lies from our ancestors and continue to keep these traditions. I have to be honest about. I have never wanted my way, just the absolute truth. Even the Sabbath was changed by man. GOD does not change and neither did the Sabbath. I would urge all Christians to question with boldness. Oh yeah, I am not a JW, I am a Messianic Hebrew. I hope nobody here is offended by this as this is not my intention. I have searched long and hard about x-mas, the Sabbath, food laws and GODS’ feasts. Even the REAL name of GOD has been hidden from us. The things I have found blew my mind. I just want to obey our creator, no matter what he says to do, I will do it. I know this is not the place to get on this soap box but I felt compelled.

I’m seeing a lot of attacks on Christmas from where I stand, and I think those atheists are being stupid. I’ve never once been offended by a Christmas tree, or people telling me “Merry Christmas”. I get offended when someone starts telling me that Christianity is a stupid religion. It’s not. (I was raised a Roman Catholic) Americans have the right to follow whatever religion we want to. Christians took a buffet style selection process to what other religions and myths were already celebrating and formed them into Christmas.
If you want to have a nativity scene on your property, or on your church? Fine. Just don‘t put them up on public property and don’t expect your Government or companies to endorse your beliefs.
Christianity has done a great job putting people into political office, who then go and add stuff like “In God We Trust” to paper currency in 1950, “under God” in the pledge in the 50s and same with the motto in the 50s. These things become commonplace, so much so that people don’t realize how new they actually are and just assume “oh USA is a Christian nation” when it’s not. When pointed out with these things people will say “who cares, those are harmless” when it is very harmful to the TRUTH about our country
You then have hardcore Christians who want prayer and scripture to be consulted on matters of public policy(already is) and then you have yourself a mini-theocracy. One that doesn’t force you to believe in their faith, but one that forces you to conform your actions around those beliefs.
Beck has talked about “nudging” but only when it comes to progressives. He should show the great job Christianity has done in “nudging” our society into this false sense o

However ugly it may be, calling a spade a,well, spade at one time was protected speech. I am 52 years old , am 5′ 6″ tall, have been called “sawed off”, a “stump” “Munchkin”, you name it , and have never been offended. What did offend me was a complete stranger take up my side when a friend of mine called me “Shorty” , and this cretin took issue with it and informed my friend that the correct term was “impaired stature”. What I would like to know is since when is being short an impairment. That is akin to telling a pregnant woman that she is il, or burdened just because she is about to give birth. Christmas is Christmas, not “Xmas”, winter break, or any of the other “PC” labels. Try calling Kwanza anything but and see what happens -It was created by Maulana Karenga and was first celebrated in 1966–1967. During the early years of Kwanzaa, Karenga said that it was meant to be an alternative to Christmas, that Jesus was psychotic, and that Christianity was a white religion that black people should shun. Disrespect anything Muslim , well, remember Salman Rushdie. Any and every thing on the planet should be reviered with the exception of Christianity. The only argument I have heard is that it expresses the thought of Hell to people who don’t believe in Hell and that is somehow offensive. I think if you don’t believe in Hell or all of this other stuff then there is no possible way to be offended by it. These arguments seem to be a facade for people who want to remove any religious aspect in our society whatsoever. They want to change the precedent that we have set that we have strongly religious people here and we have expressed this, yes even in government. Remember it is freedom of religion not freedom from religion. No requirement to have a certain faith dictated by the government, but this does not mean that our society is to be free of all religious expression.

Posted on December 13, 2011 at 6:59pmI always thought Jon Stewart was funny, until now. Now I don’t think I will ever watch him again, after his attack on Christmas ( http://url2it.com/klqs ) First it was Pam Anderson as the Virgin Mary now Jon Stewart, and the left wants to claim there is no war on Christmas and Christianity.

An athiest would have been the only one to have lost their special day feeling.

The anti-Christian bigotry growing in America is sickening and tragically ironic considering that the freedoms we have were guaranteed by rights founded on Judeo-Christian values.
