Are Occupy Oakland Members in Favor of Sex Trafficking? Wait Until You See What They Did

On June 13, apparent members of Occupy Oakland staged a counter-protest at the H.E.A.T. (Human Exploitation and Trafficking) conference to end human exploitation and trafficking.

Why on earth would they do that?  While the Occupy movement has long struggled with having a cohesive message, some of the signs indicated that rescuing girls from lives of prostitution constitutes racism, and that the police and “patriarchy” shouldn’t have control over such matters.

A Facebook page dedicated to the event explains: “The H.EAT. conference is a conference of pigs and their nonprofit lackeys to increase the harassment, imprisonment, marginalization and criminalization of sex workers. Fronting as a conference against ‘child trafficking,’ this conference brings pigs and nonprofits together to develop policing strategies that line their pockets…”

Blogger Zombie, who wrote an article about the protests, explained that “The protesters mostly were members of Occupy Oakland Patriarchy, a group within the overall Occupy movement tasked with overthrowing our civilization’s “patriarchy.” He gives more details on what happened:

If there’s one issue that unites Americans of all political stripes, it’s the sexual enslavement of children. Whatever our opinions on other issues, we all agree that sex trafficking and the prostituting of children is an outrage and a tragedy. Thus, conference attendees included liberal, moderate and conservative politicians; progressive nonprofit organizations; law enforcement groups; religious leaders…In short: Everybody.

Everybody, that is, except Occupy Wall Street, who somehow found a way to oppose the abolition of child sexual slavery. In order to justify this seemingly incomprehensible and repugnant position, the Occupiers performed some of the most amazing moral gymnastics you’ll ever encounter.

An official statement that the protesters were handing out, according to PJ Media, partially read:

The official, police-sanctioned campaign to combat the commercial sex-trafficking of children is nothing more than a patronizing, patriarchal guise that is being used to support intensified repression of sex workers and the further empowerment of police agencies at their expense.

Ultimately, no form of work is truly consensual given the conditions of work under Capitalism.  We all have to sell our labor to survive.  But the conditions of sale are not equal for all of us.  For some people, sex work is just a better choice, given the poverty of viable alternatives.  It is only thanks to the power of religious institutions and their policing of morality that the spotlight gets shone onto those of us who labor physically in the bedroom.  We reject any moral policing of our bodies.  Clearly, human trafficking is a heinous practice, but the perpetual focus on sex is uncritically sensationalist, and its shock value is exploited by any anti-sex-trafficking groups present at the HEAT conference in pursuit of their own moralizing, often religious, agendas…[Emphasis added]

Watch video of how they disrupted the conference, chanting “f**k the police!” and mobbing the hotel, before pelting it with eggs and other liquids as security rapidly shut the doors, below:

PJ Media points out that the protesters seemed to espouse two contradictory opinions simultaneously:

1. We are sex workers and proud of it, and there is nothing wrong with prostitution, so stop oppressing us with your prudish laws; and
2. The only reason we are compelled to have this degrading and unpleasant profession is that capitalism forces people to exchange labor for money — only a total anti-capitalist revolution can put an end to prostitution.

Now, needless to say, one would go insane trying to maintain both these ideas at the same time, which is apparently what has happened to the members of Occupy Oakland Patriarchy.

And if the signs weren’t enough, a post-protest summary from the “Bay of Rage” Occupy site writes:

Wh*res get [revenge.]

On Wednesday, June 13th, 2012, queers and hookers and other bad b*tches f**ked up the H.E.A.T. Watch conference. H.E.A.T. Watch is an ongoing campaign facilitated by the Alameda County District Attorney, The City of Oakland, the OPD, and a few select piece-of-sh*t non-profits.

We set out with the intentions of shutting the f**ker down and started the event with the distribution of some dope literature, some inflammatory speeches, the harassment of mainstream media and of course, the all-out taunting of the police. It got taken a step further when the crowd attempted to enter the lobby of the Marriott Convention Center. This all resulted in a rumble with the pigs, the vandalized facade of the convention center entrance with eggs and paint, and a march to and from Oscar Grant Plaza. We would say that this was a nice way to spend an afternoon and, for a brief moment, fulfilled our goal of shutting the f**ker down.

To our enemies the DA Nancy O’Malley, the christian scum bag Linda Smith and all the pigs and other such trash attending the conference: this is only a small taste of what some pissed off h*es are capable of.       How is this any different from liberals keeping palistinians in refugee camps as tools to hurt Israel, pushing ethanol even if it drives up corn prices and makes food too expensive for the poor, or keeping minorities undereducated in poor schools so they can’t earn or think their way out of the ghettos? Liberals have agendas that need victims to promote. If confined to logic liberalism is a long-term loser every time.

      If there is one thing i feel is against my moral guidance its prostitution (sale of love/ sex/ w/e), however, their argument is correct. If i own the right to my body, if i have the freedom to engage in trade of services and goods, then i have the right to prostitute. And do not be mislead, banning prostitution outright only hurts everyone involved including society as it is one of the natural and universal developments of humankind, i would argue of a negative nature.
      But the base agreement presented here is correct and we should look at it realistically as it has real world impact and effect of force.

    They can only get away with this crap in liberal cities. In the rest of the real world we don’t stand for this method of disagreement. When you vandalize or attempt to over power people physically, we fight back. I remember as a teen purposefully crossing picket lines set up to block traffic or workers from reaching a plant or store. I still take pleasure today in crossing them when I see them. Where are our unemployed youths? You should be out there harassing the harassers, its great fun.

    Anarchists are like all Leftist groups; they take a legitimate victim’s rights issue and try to adopt it as if it was their own idea and suggest that the only reason would Conservatives be concerned is because on an ulterior motive. They’ve created a straw man argument, completely ignoring the epidemic of sex trafficking, which not only affects children, but the women who are kidnapped by traffickers. These women are forced to be prostitutes by organized crime syndicates and pimps, not Capitalism. Trying to rescue people from modern-day slavery has nothing to do with moral views on sex. But while we’re on that note, if prostitution is by consent and legal, that still doesn’t make it right. Infidelity isn’t against the law, but no one is going to say it’s right, especially if it happens to them. Likewise, if someone’s daughter, sister, or mother was a legal prostitute, I doubt that any sane person would accept that either. And by the way, it’s not liberating or empowering for women. Prostitution is not so you can become more philosophically enlightened. Let’s just put it that way.

    And just what does the exploytation of children have to do with these people? That just goes to show what kind of people they are. Hijack a conference on the problem of child exploytation and sex trafficing for their own agenda. Even the rape of little children don’t matter to them. FYI people, trafficing referrs to people who don’t want to be whores but are forced to be. If that does not apply to you then go away.

    And yet with the Occupy groups, not one womens rights band of radicals will speak out against them; they only continue to claim a ‘war on women’ from the Conservatives. This is beyond reproach and all levels of reprehensible behaviour. I hope someone in the law is watching them, and if any laws are broken, sweep the guilty up once and for all.

      This campaign, named “Bedsider” keeps playing “PSA’s” on my local talk radio station that has Limbaugh and Hannity, etc. The spot is ridiculously gratuitous in the lyrics, though humorous, if it wasn’t so sad. Here is the flagship of the gov “going into ppl’s bedrooms,” and it ain’t Conservatives doing it.

    I don‘t understand why these knuckleheads weren’t getting their butts kicked. Back in the 60′s when I was in the navy, a bunch of protesters gathered outside gate 4 at the Naval Base in Newport. A bunch of sailors off the ships waded into them and tore them up. It was freaking exhilirating.

    I have to agree with INDIVIDUALISM. If a woman has a product (her body) and she wishes to rent it (rent is a better word than sell because 1. she keeps ownership, 2. she expects it not to be damaged upon return), it is none of the governments business. Yes it is immoral from a few religious stand point, but it is not governments place to institute morals. That is the job of family and religion.

    I am a Christian by the way I just look at things logically. We fight all the time about government imposing their moral views on us; gun laws, the word God in public and welfare just to name a few. So then why do we insist that they impose our morals on others when it comes to prostitution?

      Wow Sargon, way to take a stand for light. You think government should be involved in matters of morality, and not Christians? I guess abortion is also okay with you since it‘s a moral issue and it is the woman’s body. Government says it’s okay so we Christians should go along with it? No! We are called to be light to help those in need. To use our system of elections to elect those that agree with us on matters of morality.

      FYI – this is nothing about a women “renting” her body for sex. This is about women (usually) being kidnapped, or deceived into a job opportunity, and then being forced in the sex trade against their will. This is a huge world wide problem and as a Christian it should make you sick and want to do something about it.

      While I see no difference between women who get paid for sex and the ones down at the bar giving it away. I will say this…the reason I am glad it is illegal is…I do not want a prostitution house next door to a school or my house! And I am tired of paying for peoples treatments for STDs and such. Keep your pants on, or pick up the tab for your choices.

    Don’t forget! Obama, Pigloski and Reid have ENDORSED the OWS movement and NEVER retracted that endorsement. The Unholy Trinity supports OWS and everything they do as they‘ve never said one negative thing about ANY of OWS’ activities.     It is so incredible, the amount of cognitive dissonance inside the heads of the Occupy types.       One must first have a will. Age of consent laws may be somewhat arbitrary but they are much better than the alternative. Or are you proposing we let 6-year-olds vote? The issue here isn’t about adults selling themselves into sex slavery, it’s about adults selling children into sex slavery.
