Are There ‘Eerie Links’ Between ‘Harry Potter’ Films & Osama bin Laden?

Are There Eerie Links Between Harry Potter Films & Osama bin Laden?

Are you a Harry Potter fan? Looking forward to seeing the next installment, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ in July?Well, if you follow the news, you might have just gotten a preview without knowing it.

A report from Reuters says that there are “eerie” similarities between the Harry Potter series and fight against al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. The outlet explains:

It set up the ongoing conflict between Harry, the young, orphaned wizard, who gradually discovers his powers, and the malignant force of evil, Lord Voldemort, who is bent on destroying him. First referred to only as “He Who Must Not Be Named,” Voldemort is introduced as something of a formless boogie-man — not unlike the mysterious Osama — but then, over the course of the series, takes on more and more of a physical presence until in the last volume he and Harry go head-to-head in a final, cataclysmic battle.

For a generation of kids who grew up reading Rowling‘s books and watching Hollywood’s big-screen adaptations in the shadows of 9/11, there have been inevitable echoes of the real world in Harry’s sometimes reluctant quest to defeat Voldemort.

Back in 2004, a poster on mugglenet.com made some of it explicit, comparing the Death Eaters to Al Queda and noting of that “just as Voldemort was shaped by his mother‘s death and his father’s abandonment, Osama was shaped by his personal struggle between Western pleasures and Islamic discipline.”

And just as Harry is known in the books as “the anointed one,” a number of President Obama’s critics like Rush Limbaugh have frequently dismissed the president by disparagingly referring to him as “the anointed one” as well — though on Monday, even Limbaugh had praise for how Obama orchestrated Osama’s demise.

Mild spoiler ahead, so stop reading if you don’t know the outcome of the final book…

Meanwhile, in the wake of bin Laden’s death in a mansion near Islamabad, a meme has already popped up on the web, noting the weird coincidence that Osama and Voldemort both died on the same day, May 1. But true Potter fans have been quick to point out that’s not quite true: When Harry and Voldemort actually finally come face-to-face in the Battle of Hogwarts, in the books’ chronology the date is really May 2, 1998.

I thought Harry Potter was more of a WW II Nazi ref myself. You can almost see how Hitler and Vol de Morte took similar paths to power. Gathering followers with cult like charisma, especially in wealthy and political areas, then using them to infiltrate the government and then take it over from the inside.

I have always thought Harry Potter was a bit deeper than what some people want to make it out to be.

America is as murderous as Osama was.The american military is guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity and if their were true justice there would be tribunals for americans. What Osama did was evil but what america has done not only in Muslim countries but in other countries [viet nam] is also evil. His actions were not more evil then the americans policys of torture and mass murders abroad. Two wrongs don’t make a right but this fantasy of good versus evil is propaganda. What he did was evil but he did one good thing-he stood to the american terrorists and gave them a 9 year run for their money. and shook up the complacent americans who believd there would never be a cost for their murderous actions abroad. He changed that balance of power even if briefly.

Americans seem to believe as long as they use the word freedom or democracy in a sentence about dropping bombs on people it doesn’t matter how many arms and legs are blown off of men women and children.Osama undersood that about you murderous hypocrites and one day your chickens came home to roost. As Rev. Wright said [a great american] you never batted an eye when you were commiting mass murder .Osama changed that and forever will be remembered as the man who succeeded in letting you know what its like to be victims of war for once. Two wrongs don’t make a right but hey the world was sick of your committing mass murder in the world with impunity. The mellenium was ushered in by Osama ,the century of the people where all people can act and even being a superpower does not make you immune from reaping what you sow.Osama died valiently and lived a full life with women and children in his life.He was more authentic then these american mass murderers who now have to watch what they say in the media [you cannot call for genocide of Muslims even on Fox] but only on your blogs. You live a sccizophrenic existence-harboring genocidal hatred of Muslims but not being able to say it publicaly so saying everything else instead.Osama said what he meant and believed-that america was unjust towards Arabs and our policies toward Muslims was unjust. He was authentic -though he too was a mass murderer-which is something none of you are or dare to be.

As a Harry Potter fan, I find this to be ridiculous. Yeah, there might be some connection, but really?! Probably just a MAJOR coincidence, nothing else. This is really, really, low for The Blaze.

In most books people see connections between events in real-life and the time period it takes place in. It’s not uncommon. I wouldn’t be surprised if J.K. Rowling wrote in a few ties to Al-Queda, but this really is just a stupid article. Harry Potter and Bin Laden ties–it’s more hilarious than anything else–but stupid.
