Are These the 20 Signs That Point to a Global Food Crisis?

On Sunday we heard the head of the World Bank say that he’s “concerned” about food prices, and that we’re “one shock away from a full-grown crisis.” Heavy stuff. But get ready, it’s about to get cinder-block-around-your-feet-in-a-lake heavy.
“In case you haven’t noticed, the world is on the verge of a horrific global food crisis,” writes Michael Snyder over at Zero Hedge. “At some point, this crisis will affect you and your family. It may not be today, and it may not be tomorrow, but it is going to happen.”
In order to prove his case, Snyder provides “20 signs that a horrific global food crisis is coming.” The first seven are below:
#1 According to the World Bank, 44 million people around the globe have been pushed into extreme poverty since last June because of rising food prices.
#2 The world is losing topsoil at an astounding rate. In fact, according to Lester Brown, “one third of the world’s cropland is losing topsoil faster than new soil is forming through natural processes”.
#3 Due to U.S. ethanol subsidies, almost a third of all corn grown in the United States is now used for fuel. This is putting a lot of stress on the price of corn.
#4 Due to a lack of water, some countries in the Middle East find themselves forced to almost totally rely on other nations for basic food staples. For example, it is being projected that there will be no more wheat production in Saudi Arabia by the year 2012.
#5 Water tables all over the globe are being depleted at an alarming rate due to “overpumping”. According to the World Bank, there are 130 million people in China and 175 million people in India that are being fed with grain with water that is being pumped out of aquifers faster than it can be replaced. So what happens once all of that water is gone?
#6 In the United States, the systematic depletion of the Ogallala Aquifercould eventually turn “America’s Breadbasket“ back into the ”Dust Bowl”.
#7 Diseases such as UG99 wheat rust are wiping out increasingly large segments of the world food supply.
You can read the next 13 here.
And just in case those facts aren’t heavy enough, CNBC opens its story on a potential U.S. “tipping point” like this:
The combination of rising gasoline prices and the steepest increase in the cost of food in a generation is threatening to push the US economy into a recession, according to Craig Johnson, president of Customer Growth Partners.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 8:46amWhy is there no mention of grain being used to produce meat for people in China and India? With those folks eating more and more meat, almost a US levels, this has to impact grain supplies.
US meat consumption (like oil consumption) is a drop in the global ocean. China and India with much larger populations, have to impact the supply of grain in a really BIG way through meat consumption.
Why is it blame America first?

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 8:43amI seem to recall that American farmers could not get fair prices for their crops in recent years due to global production. So, where is all the food going?
Food prices are not always related to food production. The ability to afford food is not always related to the quantity available.
Is global food inflation due to the policies of the Federal Reserve that cause inflation and a declining dollar?
As the dollar declines, does it cause food prices to go up around the globe?

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 11:57pmThe rising prices of EVERYTHING is because of QE2.
It’s s chain reaction:
- The dollar is devalued by the FED
Report Post »- The wealthy investors(speculators) realize their money is worth less and “attack” the commodities markets, driving prices up
- commodities are necessary in the production of everything, thus everything goes up in price
- the problem is complicated by the distribution system(transportation costs)
- the people who get hurt are the poor and the middle class– “the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer”…………….. the middle class just goes away.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 8:33amIn an odd twist, I‘ve read that Mexican farmers have complained for decades they can’t grow corn because they can’t compete with price from US farmers. So, Mexican farmers should be benefiting from these higher corn prices.
With oil rising out of control, I imagine rising oil prices will push food prices higher (equipment and fertilizer).
Why no mention of rising fuel prices.
Has the production of food lessened? American farmers got better money for their ethanol corn then the corn grown for food.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 7:47amMatthew 24:4-7 and Mark 13-5-8
In these passages, Jesus tells us what to look for. He says Many will come in his name and try to deceive you saying they are him, that there will be wars and rumors of wars, and there will be famine, pestilence, and earthquakes in various places. These warnings are very similar to the 4 horsemen in Revelations 6:1-7. The 1st horsemen is someone coming in His name saying he is Him. 2nd horsemen is take peace from earth which is wars and rumors of wars. 3rd horsemen is famine and the 4th horsemen is death from war, famine, plagues and beasts of the earth (pestilence).
I see alot of these unfolding today. We in America have been sheilded from many of these hardships so far, but they are coming. How sad that people do not see nor heed the warnings.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 8:33amThinking the same thing myself. After seeing the photos of the smog over London and Manchester, I am left wondering what good all the clean air regulations have done anyway? I don’t remember seeing smog like that over London in the seventies (and that was before a massive clean-up, when the white stone of the buildings was black with soot, my gloves got black from touching handrails on in the tube station, and our mothers had to fetch the washing off the line if there was a light rain because the smog would dirty the clothes). I’m glad London cleaned up. I don’t believe for one minute that it makes one iota of a difference to our climate one way or another, just to our enjoyment of our surroundings.
Ethanol was awfully useful in those days, too, to supplement short oil supplies in a politically incorrect country of the era that was thriving under world sanctions. Not wise on a global scale or on a long-term basis. And one wonders why the citizens of the former breadbasket of Africa are now starving (in addition to the obvious political and social strikes against her).
Oh! It’s the same bunch in office in America again today! Funny how that goes. No wonder Rush coined the name “Ogabe”.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 7:45amDuring a Sunday School class several years ago, my fellow students discussed the benefits of ethanol. They went on about how it would end the United States’ dependence upon foreign oil and that it would clean the air, etc. It was as if they were talking about a wonder drug, a panacea.
After quizzing them a little, I realized they knew almost nothing about the process by which it is made and even less about growing corn. I’m not a farmer, but I do know many farmers, who grow and trade corn on a massive scale (they’re not evil corporate farmers, either).
After listening to my students and equating their enthusiasm with what my farmer friends had told me I had a sort of revelation. I told my students that this cannot end well for the United States. I asked them this simple question: In a world in need of food do you think it is pleasing to God that a nation spread with fertile soil starts converting food into fuel?
I think I might know the answer.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 1:02pmI use to believe we would be taken out before it gets bad, but there are several scriptures in Revelation that say the Saints will be here, now these may be those who come to the saving knowledge after the initial rapture, but it is clear, that “some” Saints will see very bad times.
Rev 6: 9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,[e] were killed just as they had been.
Rev 9 talks about a great multitude in heaven that came out of the great tribulation, this occurs after seals 1-6. These are Saints that came out of the tribulation.
Rev 12:17 talks about the dragon waging war against those who keep God’s testimony, meaning Saints will be on earth at this time.
Rev 13:7 It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8 All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.[b]
Rev 20:4 4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They[a] had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
These are a few examples showing Saints will be on earth during the tribulation. It may be us or not, it may be those who come to Christ after the rapture and the Anti-Christ is revealed and takes authority. But be prepared in case it is us, your best prep is your foundation in Christ.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 8:47amREAL CAUSE of high oil prices. The dollar was severely devalued by the QE. The bond purchases aimed at stimulating the economy — a policy known as quantitative easing — will total up to $900 billion and be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2011. Oil prices go up, as suppliers (Saudi, etc.) simply raise the price to offset the devalued dollar. It’s a win win for obama, since he wants to crash our economy and raise the price of oil. High fuel=high food costs. This leads to inflation across the board.
Combine this with the fanning of the flames obama is doing in the middle east, and clearly this is a crisis he is playing a huge role in bringing it about. No one is talking about this!!

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 2:00pmwe have noticed the price of all foods up about 20% price of gas and heating oil has doubled, state taxes just voted up, property taxes up, spending up and our wages down. The media will not report the failed Obama economic strategy, but everybody is talking about it. No vacation, no needed new car tires, generic only foods, can’t afford heat now(thankfully for global warming we don’t need it-wrong still in the 20‘s and 30’s at night and morning in new england). Obama and the progressives are killing us, very worried that we wont be able to afford heat next year with obama’s skyrocketing energy policy

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 3:55pmIf so many of you are so very confident that we are headed for a catastrophe, I would love to set up some free-market agreements with you. I see numerous people here claiming that we will see near cataclysmic times before the end of this year. I’ll let you pick the catastrophe:
Report Post »You think MASSIVE food shortages are coming? I’ll bet you can still buy a loaf of bread in America for less than one hour of minimum wage work throughout this year.
Weimar hyperinflation headed our way? I’ll bet inflation stays below 20% this year.
Day of Judgment? Let’s make a contract that says you will give me all of your net worth on Jan. 1st 2012. If you are so confident about these being the end days, you shouldn’t balk at that.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 4:44pmOifvet…is the sand nice and cool on your head. When you have organized labor planning on economic terroism by attacking Chase Bank and encouraging people not to pay their obligations, when organized labor is making weekly visist to the White House to organize against capitalism/America. When you have nearly five dollar a gallon gas, that is not going to feeding your family. When you have Cotton at never before seen prices, When your dollar is not worth what it was. I guess I would want to put my head in the sand too.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 5:52pmConsider this:
When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come and see.” Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword. (Rev 6:3-4)
What is Red the color of? Communism, among other things…. Who is behind so much of the increasing conflict in the world today? Communists, among others… Just an observation.
When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” (Rev 6:5-6)
I’ve been told that comes out to “a day‘s food for a day’s wages,” while luxury items such as wines and olive oil don’t increase.
It‘s a strong possibility that’s worth strongly considering.
Our world will never be the same.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 9:00pmBTW,,,,in 2008,,,,,they played with the price of oil as we were entering a problem period with the housing bubble. The combination of the two sent the U.S. into a spiral. Now in 2011, the same thing is happening with the price of oil. I recently heard that there may be another bubble with housing, and food, and clothing, and gold, and etc etc…..point is,,,,,this playing with the oil prices, in conjunction with our deep, deep debt, the oncoming hyper-inflation (oh yes, it’s coming) will not only ‘return’ us to the recession (I say we never left it) but could, in all probability sink us even deeper into a 10 year ‘depression.’ But,,,,,those that have stripped the wealth of the nation won’t be poor,,,,,but shouldn‘t show their face in public due to a ’reckoning.’
Many label crap like this as a conspiracy and those like me as a ‘conspiracy nut.’ Whatever,,,,I guess time will tell,,,,but I won‘t say ’I told you so,‘ I’ll just keep tending to my flock and garden. What will you do?
