‘Are You Clueless…?‘ Florida Reporter Stuns GOP Governor With ’Insulting’ Questions

Are You Clueless...? Florida Reporter Stuns GOP Governor With Insulting QuestionsMichael Putney has been a fixture in Miami media for over thirty years. With so many years of experience one wonders if Putney should have expected his questions sent to Florida Governor Rick Scott before an upcoming interview to be rejected for being “insulting.”

It‘s fair to say Putney’s questions are not as civil as one would usually expect to see in an interview between a state governor and a seasoned journalist. They include words such as “clueless.” So, should the governor be willing to roll with the punches? Did Putney intend to be taken seriously, or purely look get a rise out of the new governor? Let’s look before you decide.

Putney’s comments on the matter in the Miami Herald:

“Gov. Rick Scott, a regular on Fox News and lately a chatterbox on friendly AM radio stations in Florida, finally agreed to sit down with me for an interview, for which I was grateful, what with my suspect ‘lamestream’ media credentials. To kick start the conversation I even broke with journalistic tradition and sent the governor the questions in writing. Ordinarily, this is a no-no, but he’s still relatively new to doing interviews. I had hoped he wouldn’t get into that 700,000-jobs-in-seven-years riff. As Politifact noted the other day, he’s done OK with job creation though his claims are a bit exaggerated.

Maybe I was a bit too direct in my questions. On Tuesday, the governor’s communications director Steve McNamara cancelled the interview, calling some of my questions ‘insulting.’”

In the interest of transparency Putney posted in his column six of the questions he presented to the governor’s communications staff. Each question took up a small paragraph of page space, but some of Putney’s most aggressive lines can be found in his first question to Scott:Are You Clueless...? Florida Reporter Stuns GOP Governor With Insulting Questions

“Are you clueless when it comes to accepting money from Washington? You turned down $2.4 billion for that high-speed rail line from Tampa to Orlando and $19 million more to lay the groundwork in Florida for healthcare reform. Yes, I know you think President Obama’s a European-style socialist (or worse) who never met a payroll, but the money you’re telling Washington to keep is just going to other states. Like Texas with your buddy, Gov. Rick Perry, who evidently has no qualms about accepting it. Those federal dollars are largely tax money that Floridians sent to Washington. A lot of us want it back for useful, productive programs. What’s your idea of a productive government program?”

Putney further pressed Scott on his choice of who to let in to a budget signing ceremony:

“What were you thinking when you signed the new state budget at a ceremony sponsored and staged by the Republican Party of Florida where only tea partiers and other true believers were let in and nonbelievers were kicked out? You later said you just showed up at the Villages and didn’t know demonstrators had been ordered to leave, but that’s a lame excuse. Are you the governor of all Floridians or just for Republicans and the Tea Party? That 29 percent approval rating tells me that most Floridians don’t think you’re on their side. Whose side are you on?”

The media is expected by many to act as the “Fourth Estate,” holding the three branches of government accountable for their actions. That said, do you think Putney’s questions were appropriate? Putney writes his questions were not aimed at insulting the governor, just “tough questions during tough times.”

But where’s the line between tough and disrespectful?

Rick Scott was elected, immediatly cut taxes for corporations, then proceeded to eliminate public service jobs and cut programs for the poor. Reduce revenue by giving the rich more money, and taketh away from the poor.

Florida gets it now. The next governor will be a Democrat, that much is for certain.

I love it when these clueless lamestream media hacks get so worked up and reveal their truly biased (and IGNORANT) “progressive” mindset. They absolutely HATE to see any conservative solutions to real problems, ESPECIALLY when it involves cutting the cost to TAXPAYING WORKERS at the “expense” of their beloved government union and welfare leaches.

I think it would be appropriate if the Governor’s office made it official… this decrepit old liberal (and his TV station) shouldNEVER be given another chance to directly address ANY questions to the Governor. Period. He’s nothing more than a bitter, old partisan hack !!

No kidding! They can sure throw the “hardball” questions at a Republican or Conservative, but give ODumber a pass on everything he does. Remember when one lone reporter had the gall to stand up and ask ODumber if he and his family planned to sign up for the Obamacare health plan when it was available? All that reporter got was the “imperial stare” and no answer.

Those gutless reporters should have asked that question at EVERY press conference until the lying SOB answered it–and admitted to the whole wolrd that he and his “royal family” had no intention of going on Obamacare–that was just for the peasants, not for royalty like him! At LEAST they could have insisted that he admit that, instead of giving him a “pass” on that and every other hard question they SHOULD have asked him.

A better informed statement would have been Thank You for turning down $2.4 billion for that high-speed rail line from Tampa to Orlando, (because it would have cost Florida residents 5 times that in subsidies over an 8 year span to keep it running) and $19 million more to lay the groundwork in Florida for Obamacare healthcare reform which will eventually ruin the U.S. healthcare system.

Rick Scott approval rating is just 29% and his dissaproval rating is almost 60% of registered voters in Florida after only five months in office. And his approval is likely to get worse as he pursues the same policies: those helping the rich at the expense of the poor. People are catching on, just like they are in Wisconsin. And when you realize that the Republicans are taking money out of your pocket to subsidize corporate jets and otherwise help the most profitable and wealthiest companies in the world (who aren’t hiring by the way), then you’ll get it too.

Yes, the lamestream reporters clearly have their agenda. They are mindless followers of other peoples asses. Their minds are like concrete… mixed up and set. Their questions aren’t asked in order to gain answers. They are crafted and asked for the purpose of proving their own points. “Reporter” is a ridiculously inaccurate title for them to have. “Agent” is more suitable. They are merely agents for the furthering of their causes.

If Putney were given an interview with Obama, there would be no such questions (although there is far more reason to be asking them), but merely tossing one easy pitch after another for the sole purpose of serving up progressive talking points to His Highness to hit out of the park. No doubt that he’d be drooling, starry eyed and maybe even have thrills running up and own his leg while doing it.

Basically, by taking the money, he is agreeing to spend 3x that in the future. ALSO, that money isn’t money largely ent by Floridians to Washington, it’s money we BORROWED from CHINA, and rather than being thrown away in another government boondoggle project that will cost taxpayers more in the end, should be applied to the debt.

Absolutely! If we had been “blessed” with alex sink (I shudder to think of it), Florida would be sunk. Rick Scott has made some tough unpopular choices using business principles; that stupid statewide rapid rail system that he rejected would have saddled Florida with billions of operating costs in the future when rosy ridership projections flopped. The demonrats can’t see past that big tempting pile of “free” cash from Washington for the initial cost coverage. Sadly, there are toooooo damned many demonrats in Florida.

Please NOTE that the high speed rail is a scam…. Especially between Tampa and O-Town… it takes less time and trouble to just go on and drive and you will have your own car when you get there!
You guys realize that GE, yes that is it, GE is the benificiary of high speed rail…
they build the rail cars! Just google GE Transportation.
      Hay! Who guessed that any of 0-bunglers friends and hangers-on would P R O F I T . . .

The Dems must have their knickers really in a knot. Just think how it looks, when a vast majority of Rep. Governors are bringing the fiscal house in order. Likes of Scott, McDonald and Christee. Those who mentioned the high speed rail line…yepper the Fed Grants only cover a small chunk of change…the rest is borne by the State, PLUS any over budgets and operation costs. Nothing from the Feds is FREE.

Not “tough questions”, but I would call them condescending for sure. It would be great to see the same treatment of Democrats who stack the crowd at all their events, including the town halls where kids somehow ask college level questions and receive an answer that is obviously prepared. Yes, Mr. Putney…you ARE “lamestream”. I remember when the media at least TRIED to sound impartial…those days are long gone.

The Gov missed a primo opportunity to address every one of the issues that were presented. I’d say that the reporter got the best of the Gov this time. His advisers dropped the ball because the best course of action would have been for the Gov to give clear, well organized thoughts that articulated his views on the issues. He ends up looking just as petty as the journalist in this matter. IMHO…

Sounds to me like Florida has one hella of a smart Governor.
The states that grab at these Obama handouts wind up creating government jobs that become an ongoing liability after the Fed money is gone.

In fact, I agree that the media is the “Fourth Estate”. They should hold the three branches of government accountable for their actions. They certainly have shown an enormous capability to do that with everyone right of center. How about they begin trying that with the Annoited One? His Majesty, The Barrack-ness of the Obama – keeper of all things that are good.

Probably is, but then again it is interesting to note the bar of decency and respect candidates demonstrate in their campaign ads. I am reminded of the “pole dancing” commercial run by the Tea Party candidate run in CA. Some of his choice of words were disrespectful, but the response was a dodge of the questions. Seeing how some individuals here refer to office holders on both side of the isle, I don’t see how they will find the phraseology disrespectful. But alas the ideological chest thumping will prevail.

You’re crazy, no one wants to throw a person, let alone an old person, over a cliff. That was over the top. Ryan’s plan does change for anyone 55 or older.
And what “lie” did Palin tell about death panels? Haven’t we already heard about recommendations that women need no breast exams until they are 50? I knew several women, younger than 45, who have died from breast cancer.
How about all the exact same wording of reports from different liberal media outlets?

@Anonymous T. Irrelevant Agreed did not mean to claim either side is more ethical or of higher integrity with regard to ads. My choice was related to the insulting reference used in the report. While the wheelchair, similar to death panels is an abuse of the facts and misleading, it is not personally insulting as was the ad that depicted the opponent as a stripper who worked for a drug gang. If your honest you will admit that ad was a new low.

The initial buying of computer chips came from the gov because there still wasn’t a market for it but they had NASA. You cannot measure profits of highways, rail, amtrak in terms of their singular profitability but must think about them in terms of enabling the populuce to effeciently conduct business – US infrastructure as a whole is terrible and is even worse when left to the states. Just look at L.A, Ca where their infrastructure measuably detracts from the city’s revenue. This seems very obvious but to people who blindly say the government should be a passive entity it’s blasphamy. Get out from under your rock

That was in the past, now the money comes with strings attached. Why are we sending our money to Wash. and then have to beg for it back? Should’t all states pay a certain percentage and get a certain percentage back based on population numbers? I don’t like the fact that you have to make a deal with someone to get your own money back.
