Just last Monday, Meredith Jessup posted this video in the blog section about a crazy new trend called ‘planking.‘
Mere days later the Planking page on Facebook had over 200,000 members, with photos and videos pouring in from all around the world.
And then came the bad news. The first recorded DWP. Someone actually died while planking. CNN covered the news (as they also added dozens of planking videos to their iReport pages online);
‘Australian man fell to his death last week while attempting to take part in the online fad.’
The sad story of the planking death did not stop the fad from spanning the globe, and may even be generating more interest in it. Here in America, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedyway, even the drivers have been seen planking – Champion Scott Dixon and others ‘plank’ in this report.

Turns out that “Planking” is simply the act of laying face down with your arms at your sides, essentially, “playing dead”. What is dangerous about that? Perhaps if one stays in the position for an extended period of time, the coroner may pay a visit, then upon finding that the victim isn’t dead, will produce a whopping bill for the services?
Why is this a fad? What could possibly be fun about laying face-down and having your picture taken? Perhaps the fact that Planking takes even less energy than playing video games or smoking weed is what attracts young people to do it…

This time though, you can put ALL the crazy and stupid fads and crazes together and this planking will beat all the other ones put together for stupidity. As far as I’m concerned anyone can do this if they want since it is their business BUT I do not see how anyone could/would willingly show the world the level of stupidity that they have. A number of people have lost their jobs because of them planking and I agree 100% with that because I would not want anyone trying to do a job especially if it could be dangerous or a very important job when they obviously do not have an IQ higher than a 2X4 if they have one that high.
