Are You Ready For Sao Paulo‘s ’Heterosexual Pride Day?’

SAO PAULO (The Blaze/AP) — The city council of South America’s biggest city has adopted legislation calling for a Heterosexual Pride Day to be celebrated on the third Sunday of each December.
Poking fun at the city’s proposal, Gawker’s Jeff Neumann writes:
If anyone’s been put down by society for far too long — besides young white males — it’s the straights, of course. That’s precisely why members of Sao Paulo, Brazil’s city council have adopted legislation to create Heterosexual Pride Day.
Sao Paulo Mayor Gilberto Kassab must sign the legislation for it to become law and has said only that he is studying it. His office declined Wednesday to say whether he supports the proposal.
The legislation’s author, Carlos Apolinario, said the idea for a Heterosexual Pride Day is “not anti-gay but a protest against the privileges the gay community enjoys.”
As an example, he mentioned how Sao Paulo’s huge gay pride day parade is held every year on Paulista Avenue, one of the main thoroughfares in this city of 20 million people, while the March for Jesus organized by evangelical groups is not allowed on the same avenue.
“I respect gays and I am against any kind of aggression made against them,” Apolinario said. “I have no trouble coexisting with gays as long as their behavior is normal.”
Perhaps out of outrage for the current legislation, it appears the councilman’s web site has been compromised by a group called RedHack. Currently, text on the web site CarolsApolinario.com.br reads (translated):
In Brazil, a homosexual is killed every 36 hours, this type of crime has increased 113% over the past five years. In 2010, 260 were killed. Only the first three months of this year were 65 murders.
Councilman Carlos Apolinario insists propose laws that contribute to the spread of hatred and discrimination. From War to genocide the massacres of Oslo and Utoya, those who preach the superiority of one over another are responsible for the actions of the most damning history.
The Brazilian Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Association criticized the legislation, saying it could provoke homophobic violence.
“How many LGBTs will be attacked because of the message that only heterosexuality makes someone a moral person and a good citizen,” the association said in a statement.
“The celebration of heterosexual pride is inappropriate because it belittles the just cause of the LGBT community,” the statement added. “Unlike homosexuals, heterosexuals are not discriminated against simply for being heterosexuals.”
The Christian Science Monitor discusses just how serious related problems have become in the region:
While São Paulo is home to a vibrant gay scene, homophobia is a constant concern. The legislation comes just a few weeks after a conservative congressman in the capital Brasilia courted controversy by apparently calling blacks promiscuous, and then declaring himself proud to be prejudiced against gays. And last month a group of youths attacked and maimed a father they thought was gay because he hugged his teenage son.
In a recent report, the gay rights group Grupo Gay da Bahia corroborates RedHack’s claim that 260 gays were murdered last year in Brazil, up 113 percent from five years earlier.

I wonder if it has something to do with BLOWBACK where some tire of the in-your-face “pride” of a certain segments sexual preferences? Maybe if they stopped having their “pride” parades that would help. Keep your sex preferences in the bedroom.

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 10:19pmThe gay community in Brazil is 8.35% of the population, and each year about 50,000 Brazilians are murdered – the number should be much higher than 260. The issue is that Brazil doesn‘t have the concept of ’hate crime’, and as they start to refine the methods for identifying when a murder victim is LGBT the number will rise. Until the number exceeds 8.35% of all murders in Brazil there is nothing to talk about – except for the fact that every year some 50,000 Brazilians are killed, of course.
Every murder is tragic, but this holding up of gay murder victims makes no sense – their number is disproportional to the general population – they are dramatically under-represented. At 260/yr and with 50,000 murders a year, they represent about one half of 1% of all murders in Brazil, yet they are 8.35% of the population…

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 9:38pmSorry folks, gay people have always been here, no more now than ever. You can try to stop anyone from publicly acknowledging their gay, and you might have some small effect. But the history on this is already written. You can say it violates God’s law but Bible, if you take it literally prohibits a lot of things:
Exodus 20:4 ESV “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”
So no likeness of God, Jesus, or fish is allowed. “Likenesses” of God and Jesus are found in every Christian church in the United States. There a lot of “likenesses” of thing under the sea going around too.
This is all going away, and in a decade or two everyone, Christian or not, will view this as an aberration. The same as we do now about the objection to interdenominational marriage.
Sorry, you don’t live forever on Earth, and the next generation will decide for themselves what is Christian and what is not. Goodbye.

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 10:01pmYou did a fine job of taking the subject and turning it into a meaningless tangent. Exodos 20:4 has absolutely nothing to do with gay or straight people. You are trying to say that since God prohibits one particular type of sin that supposedly everyone commits, making graven images, that homosexuality should be excused. You aren’t making any sense. Besides you twisted the intent of the command to not make graven images. God wasn’t saying we cant make images. He was telling us not to worship them. Just like he tells us it is an abonination for men and women to lay with the same sex. Also what people say in the next decade or two has absolutely no bearing on what is right or wrong since God is the one who says what right and wrong is. Stop using scripture to make it contradict what God has said. You’ll be held accountable for that in severe fashion.

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 10:01pmThe point is, the Lord does not want us to WORSHIP them. Its alright to make statues. The Bible is not teaching against statues. But the 10 commandments are clear, do not bow down to graven images, etc. You need to read the Bible in proper context and understand what it is talking about, because it sure was not talking about not making statues of birds, people, or mountains, etc. Ridiculous to think that’s what God meant. LOL

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 10:03pmIf truth were relative, you would be correct. But truth (the Bible) is not relative, it is constant and never changes. So many years from now, many people will still view this as sin.
The other problem with your point is that you’re saying two wrongs DO make a right. Because you perceive a violation (the “likenesses” you reference) it somehow makes another violation (homosexuality, fornication) okay?
Either way, it sounds like you agree that homosexuality is wrong.

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 10:05pmGiven my academic background I would believe there are multiple reasons for people being gay.
-The confusion theory (unpopular & persecuted by intolerant gays)
-The reproductive skew theory (these people are really are gay)
-the Women cost too much theory (Saw this one at Economics website, the author is no homophobe) This one fits well with the prison theory of an 1850s German gay activist. I believe this one as well.
-Then there is the I am rich and/or bored theory.
Anyone from any side going to dispute this? I don’t think so!

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 10:23pmAh, misquoting the Bible to justify sin. Typical.
In context with Exodus 20:5, it can easily be seen that it says that one shall not make these images for the purpose of worshiping them. “For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God”, etc.
Furthermore, the point is that, as shown by the response here, “victims” like gay individuals get special privileges, such as having “Pride Parades” – signifying that you should be proud of being gay, but not if you are straight. Is it an accomplishment? Because, if so, that derails the whole “I was born this way” BS.

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 10:25pmJZS – You got it all wrong. God has no visible form. Exodus 20:4 is saying that any carved image to represent him is wrong and a sinful misrepresentation as well as any other gods. You are absolutely right about seeing a cross or images of Jesus in churches. He lived and was a actual being before he was crucified. Be sure to get your facts straight before you start posting.
The act of homosexuality has been around since the fall of man. However, since were on the subject of the Bible and the verses contained in it – lets move into the New Testament. Read Romans 1:26-27, Galatians 5:19-21. It can’t get any clearer than that. If any of the homosexuals truly consider themselves Christians then maybe – just maybe we wouldn’t be having this foolish debate.

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 11:09pmBesides very few people follow all ten commandments exactly as they were intended;
Exodus 20:8
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
The verse is talking about the Jewish Sabbath, or Saturday. It even repeats the story of Creation to clarify that it’s talking about saturday, not Sunday.
I’m sure alot of people break the “Covet your neigbhors things” or the “though shalt not steal” laws, or ya, socialists!
or the no adultry law! Lots of people break that one!

So keep your lectures to yourself. I know how many of the people in this place are towards gays. Muslims also. Not to mention Mormons and Catholics. The hatred they express is definitely not Christian, but who am I to judge? It is between them and God. I take Christ’s teachings seriously and I love everyone, though I can hold anger at people’s words or actions. But I forgive because we are all just human and we are all sinners.

I don’t think a bunch of heterosexuals going out and having a lewd or erotic sexual pride parade is going to hurt homosexuals at all.
It will look just as silly! Infact one might not be able to tell the difference between the two! Other than men won’t be kissing men, and women won’t be kissing other women.
Parades are pretty innocuous. If it turns violent, then something is wrong.

Homosexuality was removed as a diagnosable condition from the DSM in 1973 (although is was replaced with a more technical euphemism that was also discarded in 1986). I guess if your a homosexual and your homosexuality interferes with your ability to perform day to day activities, you could be diagnosed with an adjustment disorder or anxiety spectrum disorder or mood disorder… but never because of being “gay.” Funny how the APA is insisting specific labeling for video games and other electronic media addiction, but being “gay” is unquestionably normal (sic).
Report Post »I say discard all euphemisms and stop this semantic song and dance. But militant gays… er, homosexuals… excel at this game. It’s the only way they can claim marriage as a right. By rewriting history, forced social engineering and demanding that anomalous behavior is deemed “normal”.

People should take pride in all that they do. If you’re straight be proud of it, if you’re gay be proud of it. Just don’t try to force your beliefs on the other, or condemn the actions of the other.

I agree, but I believe most including myself are against IT if not for the obvious reasons (if brought up in a Christian-Judeo environment as 80 plus % of us in this country have) because of the indoctrination effort that goes on to bring in new recruits. And while the left scoff at that claim even gay authors have recently copped to this necessity to keep that community alive, otherwise it dies off a quick death by nature and lack of procreation..

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 8:46pmThis is ridiculous. Being heterosexual is nothing special. Why Wouk there be a holiday? My husband I have something special and until recently couldn’t marry in what was supposed to be a free nation. That’s why we have holidays for us. To make up for the scorn we have faced for years. This is utterly absurd

Report Post »“Nothing special”
This is what the problem is . You, think it is not anything special? That is exactly what a lot of folks think about your union. You and your people think what you have is special, and I am supposed to cater to that point of view? Seriously?? You said there is nothing special about a hetero relationship. You are hypocrite, and an agenda pusher.

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 9:33pmActually opposites attract thing is a relationship model (its nothing to do with any religion). Its weird how many marriages have one person who is liberal and one person who is a conservative, and they stay together pretty well! They might bicker and fight, but get pulled backtogether over romance!

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 9:40pmPeople should have good self esteems, and take pride in who they are as a person. It‘s sad how other groups try to belittle other groups because they have pride that’s different than another person’s pride. This goes for everyone.
Report Post »freedom_gurl35
Posted on August 4, 2011 at 11:39pmAnd so by your logic, you‘re more special than I am because you’re gay and I’m straight? How does that make you any more special? Being gay isn’t special, either, it’s a preference!
