Are You Ready for This Massive Bible Museum Being Planned for Washington, D.C.?

Green Family to Open Bible Museum in Washington, D.C.Fans of history — and theology — will be delighted to know that a massive Bible museum is slated to open in the nation’s capitol. Planners of the large-scale undertaking claim that the project will be complete and ready for Washington, D.C. residents and visitors, alike, within a four-year time frame.

The group behind the project, The Museum of the Bible, is a non-profit that represents the collection owned by the billionaire Green family, writes Religion News Service (RNS). The Greens, as we’ve previously reported, are well-known Christians who own a craft store chain called Hobby Lobby. While the location of the actual museum hasn’t been leaked — and an official name is yet to be released — some details are known.

To begin, let’s look at some of the elements that visitors can expect to encounter while at the museum. RNS has more:

A sampling of the Bible museum’s offerings — from the collection of more than 40,000 artifacts — have been displayed in the Passages Exhibit at the Vatican and in Oklahoma City and Atlanta and will soon appear in Charlotte, N.C.

Summers said the traveling exhibit recreates at 80 percent scale the chamber of London’s Westminster Abbey where the King James Version of the Bible was written. A full-scale recreation is planned for the museum.

Steve Green, president of the Hobby Lobby arts and crafts chain and a Southern Baptist, said the museum will feature the history, contents and influence of the Bible but will leave it up to visitors to decide whether to believe the holy book.

The museum’s planners initially sought out other cities for its location as well, including Dallas and New York, but Washington was inevitably strategically chosen. Organizers conducted research and found that people with interest in the museum were more likely to travel to D.C. than to other cities.

“In reality, the population base within that eight-to-10 hour drive of D.C. represents half of the U.S. or two-thirds and there’s a lot of Christians in that group,” explained Cary Summers, chief operating officer of The Museum of the Bible.

Here‘s more about the family’s collection:

While the experience will very clearly have Christian influence, it will be interesting to see how it facilitates an environment in which people make their own determinations about the holy book’s authenticity. Once completed, the Bible museum will charge an admission.

While I agree that if there is any place where the white marble of what was once freedom now covers the black slime of corruption, it is Washington DC, I would argue that a museum relegates the Bible to a relic, rather than the living Word of God. Relics belong in museums. The living Word belongs in our hearts and on our lips. To show those who do not know the Bible examples from the Word of God, or recreate those events and people which molded our faith and our world, however, is sorely needed and a wonderful undertaking. I wish them all success.

Until the turn of the century, the Congress used to print at government expense, and hand out to members, the Jefferson Bible.

And Jefferson edited out all of Paul, and most of everything else in the Christian Bible, and said it was a “Dunghill’.

A follower of Jesus, but hated Paul and wasn’t impressed by the Old Testament.

Jefferson never referred to his work as a Bible. He took the words of Jesus from the New Testament, creating a gospel harmony. You are either uninformed or disingenuous.

      NOT, Mass..Mormon.

The Jefferson Bible and what Jefferson thought of the rest of the Christian Bible isn’t exactly exotic knowledge….

In extracting the pure principles which he taught, we should have to strip off the artificial vestments in which they have been muffled by priests, who have travestied them into various forms, as instruments of riches and power to themselves. We must dismiss the Platonists and Plotinists, the Stagyrites and Gamalielites, the Eclectics, the Gnostics and Scholastics, their essences and emanations, their logos and demiurges, aeons and daemons, male and female, with a long train of … or, shall I say at once, of nonsense. We must reduce our volume to the simple evangelists, select, even from them, the very words only of Jesus, paring off the amphibologisms into which they have been led, by forgetting often, or not understanding, what had fallen from him, by giving their own misconceptions as his dicta, and expressing unintelligibly for others what they had not understood themselves. There will be found remaining the most sublime and benevolent code of morals which has ever been offered to man. I have performed this operation for my own use, by cutting verse by verse out of the printed book, and arranging the matter which is evidently his, and which is as easily distinguishable as diamonds in a dunghill. The result is an octavo of forty-six pages, of pure and unsophisticated doctrines.[5]

Why do the public call Catholics Christian? Christians embraced Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
Catholics say Jesus Christ is not enough and they have to work their way to Salvation. Catholic teaching makes Jesus Christ to weak to save with His own payment in death on the cross. Catholics are not real Christians. Real Christians accept Jesus Christ as the sole payment for our sins if we accept His gift.

      Dear Prosecute…
You seem to imply that you are Christian so most likely hold the belief that the bible is the sole authority on the Christian faith. With that in mind, your scriptural knowledge is lacking. In 2Timothy4:7, Paul writes “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;” Sounds like work to me. And how about James2:14-17? “What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” My knowledge of scripture is adequate, but could be better. Apparently I am more knowledgeable than you. Ironically, I AM Catholic!!! And Catholics do NOT believe that we have to “work” our way to heaven. We believe that faith and good works are 2 sides of the same coin; Neither has value apart from the other. Again; someone spreading ignorance. Sigh.

      Pur,

I agree with you that good works are EVIDENCE of a person’s having been saved by the sacrifice of Jesus. Where I cannot agree with you is on the Catholic Church’s pernicious insistence that only Catholic Christians go directly to Heaven. There is NOTHING Scriptural about that. It’s just an unbiblical doctrine invented by your leaders in the past to keep Catholics in line. Very destructive and very heretical.

      January 24.
Actually, the Catholic Church does not teach that only Catholics go straight to heaven. In fact, it doesn’t teach that anyone, Catholic or otherwise, is guaranteed of going straight to heaven or even going to heaven at all. Look around; how many “Catholics in name only” can you name? Virtually every politician who calls him or herself “Catholic”. If you do not believe in the tenets of any faith, how can you consider yourself a member? Keep in mind that the tenets of the Catholic faith have been in place for centuries, well before the protestant schism. Who do you think compiled the bible, preserved it, copied it BY HAND for centuries? The Catholic Church! Who decided what books would be included? The Magisterium of the Church at the time, about 1700 years ago. Then after 1200 years had gone by, Martin Luther, ALL BY HIMSELF, decided that 7 of the books were not “inspired” and threw them out and compiled his own version of the bible. I leave final judgement of heaven or hell to God the Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit. So does my Church. If the Catholic Church is in error, then it has been so for 2000 years and Christ is a liar, “for He has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you”,” in Hebrews 13:5. Would He leave his children without the truth for 1500 years until Luther? Think. Where in scripture does it say that the bible itself is the sole authority? You won’t find it. The bible cannot translate itself, so under who’s authority can any

Read, “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist,” by Brant Pitre and learn something!

The Catholic church, originally called “The Church” or “The Way,” was originally made of of Jews who believe in the diety, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Only several years into its development, did the Church become “overrun” by Gentiles!

If properly educated in both Covenants, Christian, especially Catholics should be “Baptized” Israelites generally, understand and following the Laws (Ten Commandments as explained using two Commandments by Jesus), with those Laws written no on stone but on their hearts!

I live in Oklahoma City and my wife is an archival librarian. Her take on the ‘artifacts’ in the exhibit is that they are more like ‘souvenirs’. They aren’t archeologically significant, but cheap stuff like aAunt Edna can purchase on a guided tour of the holylands.

Our family is Christian, and I applaud the idea of showing exhibits that give evidence of the Bible’s historical accuracy. Take for instance the panels in the British Museum that state the name of King Sennacherib, a king mentioned in the Bible but long thought by scholars to be an invention by the writer of Daniel. These carved relief panels proved there was such a king.

But the exhibits gathered here are cartoonish in comparison. They are not David Barton quality, more like walmart made in china replicas. Stuff you could buy at Hobby Lobby. The video presentations even star members of the family instead of paid profession actors.

It is like some Christian music. Why does it have to be so cheesy? Why can’t the stuff presented by our side be relevent and cool. We have to take the culture fight to them.

I stinking tired of being mocked.

Clearly, you’ve never been to DC. Almost all the museums there are dedicated to the fairy tale of evolution, the biggest fraud in human history. Even Darwin said, if you can’t find millions of transitional fossils, then my theory is bunk. Well, not only have we not found millions of transitional fossils, we haven’t found ONE! I know, I know, you guys only recently changed your minds and now say we’re all transitional forms…well how convenient.
