Are You Ready? This Week Is Going to Be Huge in the World… And Here’s Why

As much of the country thaws out and heads into spring and, in some places, early summer, the temptation may be to think major news is packing its bags and headed for its vacation home. It’s not. And this upcoming week will blast you back to reality.
(Related: What are the Occupiers planning for tomorrow‘s massive ’May Day’ protest?)
Intrepid financial writer Joe Weisenthal over at Business Insider has put together a list of what’s happening this week and is calling it “one of the biggest weeks that anyone can remember.” That’s a bold statement, but he has the information to back it up. Here’s what he says:
Monday, April 30 is probably going to be the quietest day, but even that will be stacked. On the US economy front, we’ve got fresh data for Personal Income & Spending, the Chicago PMI Report, and the Dallas Fed Manufacturing Outlook Survey. There’s also a boatload of earnings that day, as there will be every other day next week.
Tuesday, May 1 is another big day for meaty data. In the US we get the ISM Manufacturing Index, Construction Spending, and auto sales. Auto sales are particularly important to us, as they make for a great barometer for employment (which we’ll find out a lot more about later in the week). ALSO on Tuesday we get the beginning of one of the most exciting days for the economy: Global PMI Day. That’s when all the countries have their April PMI reports released. It will really kick off with a bang, when the Chinese Manufacturing PMI comes out at 10:30 US time. Actually, Japanese and South Korean numbers come out a bit earlier in the evening, so that’s technically when things will kick off.
Wednesday, May 2 will see a continuation of the PMI releases. In the early hours of the US day, we’ll get fresh numbers for all of the European economies. Then in the US that day we get Factory Orders and the ADP jobs report, a key preview for Friday’s main-event Non-Farm Payrolls Report. And remember, there are tons of earnings throughout.
Thursday, May 3 will see the entrance of the central banks. The ECB is meeting in Barcelona, and will make its latest monetary policy decision at 7:45 AM ET. It is possible that we’ll get some movement, or a chance in policy. The Eurozone is clearly on the skids, economically, and a rate cut is called for. The Mario Draghi press conference at 8:30 AM ET will be scrutinized to see what, if anything, he says about the surge in rates in Spain and Italy and so forth. There‘s been a growing din about ’growth’ in Europe, and how to make it happen. We’ll see if Draghi moves the ball forward on this front. In the US on Thursday we get initial jobless claims (which have been uncomfortably high three weeks in a row), productivity data, and the ISM Services report.
Friday, May 4 brings the granddaddy of economic reports: The Jobs Report. The current estimate is for just 162K new jobs created… which would definitely signal a downshift from the recent trend. Of course, there’s tons of sub-data within the jobs report that will be picked over like crazy.
So that’s the end of the workweek, but the busy week doesn’t end there!
French Socialist candidate Francois Hollande, who is poised to win the country's election at the end of the week.
Sunday, May 6 is elections day! There’s the French election of course. Francois Hollande is the overwhelming favorite to replace conservative Nicolas Sarkozy, potentially throwing a huge monkeywrench into Europe’s plan to place every country into a fiscal straitjacket. Also there are Greek elections, and they’re arguably more important than the French ones. If the two main parties fail to secure a majority in Parliament, watch out! There’s also a chance we’ll see an upsurge in support for the nationalists. And even that’s not it. Italy has regional elections that go from May 6 to May 7, and that will prove to be a major test of Monti’s ability to push reforms. Between the three countries, it‘s possible we’ll see a major negative shift against the status quo.
Francois Hollande, who Weisenthal calls the “overwhelming favorite” to become France’s next president, isn’t just any candidate — he’s a socialist candidate. In fact, he’s throwing around the idea of a 75 percent tax on the country’s wealthy (he believes it’s “patriotic”). Add that to an already-shaky European economy, and our previous report that “Sarkozy and Germany‘s Chancellor Angela Merkel have been the main architects of Europe’s efforts to avoid a collapse of the region’s shared currency,” and this week could be one that the continent’s fragile economy will soon want to forget.
But if that isn’t enough cold water on your face, consider this: May 1 (Tuesday) is also the beginning of the Occupy movement’s “May Day” general strike, which is encouraging the masses to walk out of school and work and refrain from banking and commerce. You can count on seeing several stories about its developments (and antagonistic tactics) throughout the week. Officials in Seattle already fear violence, while New York City is dealing with threats from Occupiers to shut down bridges and tunnels.
Rest up. We have a long week ahead.
UPDATE:
We should also mention that May 2 is the one year anniversary of the killing of Osama bin Laden. An Associated Press piece notes that while Al Qaeda is severely hampered, it still hopes to avenge the death of its leader, and U.S. citizens abroad have been warned about possible retaliation on Wednesday.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 8:25amYes Obama and Romney are the pretty much the same people. There is only about a 10% difference between them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWDJEc92d38&feature=player_embedded
Problem is that we will have an economic collapse within the next 5 years that will make the last one look like nothing. Most likely we are seeing a currency issue when the FED is FORCED to stop printing to support our currency. This will be very very bad soon with interest rates in the 20% range and inflation completely robbing savers out of their money.
Important to note that both Obama and Romney policies are the same on these matters, the fed QE printing will be THE SAME. The spending cuts that Romeny will encact will amount to rounding errors and will make little difference.
So ask yourselves? Do you want the collapse to be on the watch of a “overt” socalist (Obama) or a “covert” socalist (Romney)? If we have the collapse that big under (Romney) the misinformed guise of “Capitalism”, the supid public will all say “see captalism doesn’t work we need more command, controls, regualtion etc. which will lead to total communism.
If we have the collapse under Obama it will be blamed on his policies completely this time. THere will be no more “Bush’s fault” It will be the death nail in socailism.
Unfortionately, I think we need a “major fail” to get us back to our founding roots. The risky thing is with economic collapses are that they can very quickly turn to tota

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 8:49amThe hugest difference between Obama and Romney is that Romney isn’t a Marxist/communist and Obama is. Romeny may flip-flop between being a moderate and a conservative depending on who he wants to vote for him, but at least he doesn’t want to destroy America. Even if you’re conspiracy minded and believe in the White Horse Prophecy of the Mormons, he would be out to SAVE the constitution, not destroy it. Obama wants to destroy America and the whole capitalist system. Why has he not come out and condemned violence on May 1st? His silence speaks volumns.

Not smoking anything. Quite frankly… you are wrong. Ending the FED can be done and should be done. The corruption stems from those that benift from the manipulated system as it is now. This system is what keeps the wealth in the hands of the few at the expense of purchasing power of the lower classes. I have been studying this for 30 years and know what I am talking about. You need to learn Austrian Economics and stop listening to the mainstream media hype.
The system is failing because of the FED manipulation not the otherway around.

There should not be a policy of “Bringing the FED in control” The only policy should be complete destruction of the FED. The market works great when it is allowed to. Hard money is the best regulator of the banks and keeps the wealth in the people that produce instead of manipulate the financial assets.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 9:37amMiami,
The problem with the FED is many….
Even thought they are directly stealing your purchasing power and giving it to the Government which is bad enough, there are many things the FED does which makes the market not function properly:
Here is one for thought:
Problem here is that the fed policies have completely skewed the necessary feedback mechanism that a market interest rate yield curve induces. How are the actors in the economic society supposed to know how to properly allocate their production over time if “ALL” of the interest rates are manipulated and skewed to some arbitrary number that the “all knowing” and almighty FED decrees.
Problem is that they can not.
Example:
A lower long term interest rate is supposed to imply more savings in the society, therefore indicating producers to take on long term projects that will satisfy the deferred consumption (savings) in the future. As opposed to a higher interest rate will indicate producers allocate the limited resources to the short term. These “interest rates” are not arbitrary numbers, but are necessary to society to produce goods efficiently over time. The fed has pushed all rates down! even though there is no savings and is printing to make up for this. To say that this economy is a free market with the FED and is not a bubble is naïve and laughable.
Please people learn economics… our future depends on informed individuals.

A couple of well placed spit balls would likely have them running for cover, back under the rocks from where they came. As for them eventually being thrown under the bus by their powers that be, that’s already happening. The media so wants something nasty to happen they can’t stand it and are doing everything they can to set the stage for it. The media want blood to flow, hoping a bunch of occupiers get snuffed so as to create a massive bloody confrontation. This occupy group is such a minority and made up of a bunch of loosers that it will take all of about 15 minutes to physically overthrow the movement. So, yeah…any business could refuse to serve Occupiers, in theory. In practice, not so much. When those malcontents have the courage of numbers, a collective attitude problem, and IQ’s to match their inseams, 86ing them might mean your store gets firebombed.

Posted on April 29, 2012 at 11:38pmHeavenly Father – did you see Captain Crunches post – he hopes that Iran kills a Christian Pastor because of another Pastor burned the Koran – Please allow me to answer Captain Crunch Post – you will have your shot at him on Judgement Day.
Crunch – The God above has already reserved the largest Mansion in Heaven for this Pastor and his family that has been persecuted and my lose his life just for doing Gods work. While it may be tragic, if Iran kills him – one moment in his after life will be for more peaceful and full of glory than all of your miserable 80 or so years on this earth.
Don’t think for a moment – that angels don’t encamp around and about this pastor and his family. Right now Crunch – is Satan’s Moment – and the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob is not leaning over the balconies of Heaven worried about Ahmadinejad and his threats. God has already given his answer – when the dust settles – Israel will still be standing. It gets even better, because Ahmadinejad, the Muslim Brother hood, and an anyone that supports them will be defeated and will stand before God on Judgement day!
As for as the Pastor burning the Koran – that’s his deal – I don’t know enough about his message – I know I don’t want anything to do with the Koran that is written by a Child Molester – who is still in his grave until Judgement day – when Mohammed and everyone that has come against Israel will answer for their every Word and Deed – they have done in their life!

“…he hopes that Iran kills a Christian Pastor because of another Pastor burned the Koran”
You need to read my post again. And you don’t sit on the Judgement Seat! Also everyone who is cheering on Terry Jones for burning a Koran on behalf of Pastor Youcef are just as responsible and complicit about his possible execution as the executioner. You can’t play head games with me. I know Who’s I am. And my judgements are sound based on the Word of God. There have been a lot of us who have been praying for this pastor and his family. His picture is my desktop background as a reminder to me to pray. It looks like the advisary has found a misguided brother to do his bidding in the person of Terry Jones. He has no common sense, no foresight, and I doubt he is in prayer about provoking the enemy. Terry Jones has now become eternally entwined with the fate of Pastor Youcef. Take caution on what side of the fence your feet land.
I apologize for this off topic thread….

This communist day plot will end up the same. It will be interesting to see how MSNBC spins it as a success. I can’t wait to hear Ed SHultz on this.

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 5:57pmI expect it to be a “yawner” also. Look at the Day of Rage (snore) this past November. And on a side note, I’ve been hearing from Beck (who I enjoy listening to) for the last 3 years of a possible financial collapse. If it’s going to happen, I wish it would happen already. I’m tired of preparing constantly.

Posted on April 29, 2012 at 9:23pmSo much fun in so little time. Just what will our regime do to sweep all the debris under the rug. Orwell was spot on with ‘1984’, his timing was off by 28 years. I have the movie TIVO’d and plan on viewing this week just to get into the mood. I have to admit, it is been a good run for our Republic. I hope to see the best of what is good and decent of our citizenry in the near future. It is truly time to stare evil in the face and call its’ bluff!

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 6:14pmOrwell’s title was simply the reverse of when he wrote the book — 1948 simply became 1984. Much like Glenn‘s statement that he doesn’t know the timing of things, forecasters like Orwell can’t know the future timing, but are usually pretty darned sure of just what is coming down the pike.
We don’t know exactly when, but can see what is coming.
Look out !!! Duck !!!

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 11:17pmEven better: “Brazil.” Came out in ‘85, and some consider it the best sci-fi movie ever made. It’s got a very strong anti-authoritarian vibe, and arguably one of the best endings of any movie in cinematic history (depending on what version you see).
Also has quite a few good quotes: “That is your receipt for your husband”; “Now they’ve got the whole country sectioned off, can’t make a move without a form”; “My complication had a little complication”; you get the idea. See it, and thank me later. Be warned, though: the final act is relentless, and doesn’t know when to quit.
