Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Signs Executive Order Baring Benefits for Illegals

(TheBlaze/AP) — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Wednesday ordered state agencies to deny driver’s licenses and other public benefits to young illegal immigrants who obtain work authorizations under a new Obama administration policy.

In an executive order, Brewer said she was reaffirming the intent of current Arizona law denying taxpayer-funded public benefits and state identification to illegal immigrants.

Young illegal immigrants around the nation on Wednesday began the process of applying for federal work permits under the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

The federal policy defers deportations for that group if they meet certain criteria, including arrival in the United States before they turned 16 and no convictions for certain crimes.

After President Barack Obama announced the policy change in June, Brewer labeled it “backdoor amnesty” and political pandering by the Democratic president.

Arizona has been in the vanguard of states enacting laws against illegal immigration.

The U.S. Supreme Court in June overturned parts of the Arizona enforcement law known as SB1070 but ruled that a key provision on requiring police to ask people about their immigration status under certain circumstances can be implemented.

The Obama administration challenged that law in 2010 after Brewer signed it into law.

In the past decade, Arizona voters twice approved laws denying publicly funded services, such as in-state resident university tuition rates, to illegal immigrants unless mandated by the federal government.

Brewer‘s order said the policy’s federal paperwork doesn‘t confer lawful status on illegal immigrants and won’t entitle them to Arizona public benefits. Read the entire executive order here.

However, it said the policy change “could result in some unlawfully present aliens inappropriately gaining access to public benefits contrary to the intent of Arizona voters and lawmakers who enacted laws expressly restricting access to taxpayer funded benefits and state identification.”

Brewer directed state agencies to start any necessary emergency rule-making processes to implement her order.

State Rep. Catherine Miranda, who supports the federal program, called Brewer’s action mean-spirited.

“She just continues to put obstacles in front of young people in Arizona,” the Phoenix Democrat said.

Rep. Martin Quezada, D-Phoenix, said he questioned whether the order would have much practical effect under Arizona’s current laws. But he said it served to demonize good kids who should be allowed to get state-issued identification and enter the workforce.

      Jan Brewer obviously is the only governor out west that fully understands the problem and is doing something about it. She deserves much credit and our support for her actions.

      We are tired of having an out-of-control President and government telling us what to do. We have rights and so do the states. Wewill fight fto retain those rights.

      Jan Brewer isn’t what she seems to be! Citizens of Arizona remember when Brewer had the opportunity to keep obama off the ballot by signing a bill that would have required obama‘s physical birthcertificate but she reneged over a weekend and veto’d the bill. It was like she had either been bought off or threatened! If she had been threatened, all she would have had to do was go public, that would end that!!! Being bought off is another matter all together!
      She turned her back on Arizona and her oath of office!
      She is just another cog in the machine!!!

Why do illegals aliens get more government a$$istance than actual legal citizens of this country. Who says that crime doesn’t pay? Just compare what an illegal immigrant gets in food stamps, welfare, free lunches in school, free day care for the children of high school girls, clothing allowance, etc., etc., etc. And then they work for cash under the table and pay no taxes. They end up actually taking home more in benefits and monies than a person working legally earning $45,000.00 a year

      What is the point in becoming a citizen if it is going to cost you money and benefits? Maybe all of us should renounce our citizenship and stand in line with the rest of the illegals.

      Liberal commentators are in a frenzy about Gov. Brewer essentially countermanding Obama. Some even saying she is breaking the law (shows their depth of understanding on what a law is). An executive order is not a law and has NO effect on how States choose to operate. The rest of the governors should follow suit. If yours hasn’t, you should call or e-mail them. This will (no doubt part of the strategy) play havoc with attempts later to determine residency.

      Labelle – We’ve never had to have our SSN on our license. It was an option. I had one with my SSN when I first got my AZ license around 1998, but with the increasing risk of ID theft, I requested a new license that used a different number, and the difference is a bit obvious. The state generated number looks different from the SSN so knowing which number is used is easy to determine.

      …or are you referring to the application for the license?

      Sir or Madame — I would suggest that if you think The Honorable Governor Brewer appears old and tried or as you describe her a ‘hag’ it might be because of the battle she has been forced to wage to defend her State from the over whelming abuse of power of the Federal Government. I have not heard that she has been playing 100 plus golf games, untold pick up games, the numerous private concerts held in a taxpayer dwelling, and high end multi million dollar vacations during this period of time. All that relaxation can make one look more refreshed while those not so inclined to play are worn under the demands of work and upholding their oath of office.

      I suppose that one who identifies Gov Brewer as a ‘patriot’ is probably referring to their view that upholding the US Constitution, State Constitution, and the laws of the state makes them patriotic vs the scandals of Fast and Furious of illegal gun running from the USA into Mexico. Such people probably believe that the laws of the land are meant to help keep corruption at bay.

      Personally, I’d prefer someone who works and looks worn

And Brewer is still trying to get Janet to do her job of border security — one woman won‘t do her job to follow the laws of the land and won’t enforce them vs. one woman is fighting to honor her oath of office and honor the laws of the land and Constitution.

      When the Republicans were calling us for $$ contributions a while back — I told them we didn’t have any extra funds and any extra funds we were sending to the fund to defend Arizona ..against those who were unhappy living by the laws of the land.

    What an evil and vile woman, how dare she not give american money to people who break into this country. Don’t we all leave milk and cookies to a fat man that breaks into our homes every christmas, watch and know what our kids are doing, and threaten to leave fossil fuels in our homes if we are bad? Why wouldn’t we do the same thing with people breaking into our country.

    We need to just leave milk and cookies at the border, along with food stamps, guns and ammo. Be compasionate America, or Obama is coming to town.

      I thought we allready leave guns and ammo for them at the border. Holder and obama even ship guns across the border! As far as milk and cookies, I think the Drug cartels are taking care of that in the form of Drugs! LOL, if we would seriously fix the drug problem that would elieviate half our problems including Health Car, Poverty, Crime, Deaths, Gun Violence and all kinds of Family issues, but we don’t. Our worthless govt. seems to think throwing money at a problem is going to solve it! For once in our Lives if we F-ing Cracked some skulls, they would get the hint America’s not going to stand for it anymore! We can hire all the Doctors, Nurses, Detox people, and everyone else who deals with drug addicts and were throwing away money! Until we stop the drugs from coming here the problem will only get worse! If we need to Make a 30′cement law Build the D_m thing! But NO, we “our govt” keeps throwing money at it, instead of building the Wall! Israel had terrorists blowing themselves up! They saw the problem and built a Wall!       So if we add drones, add more border guards is this going to stop Mexicans and anyone else that wants to get across to the US? NO, We can keep throwing money at it and nothing will get solved! Like I said in my previous post! Build a 30′ high wall! Then all we need to worry about is Tunnels and border crossings! When we find someone who’s in the Drug Trade from Mexico or any other country, we take them, and ALL their family members and ship them back to whatever country their from! And Never let them ever come back! Instead our Govt. says, Since your here, you can stay and heres a court date. We’ll see you then! If it was an American trafficking drugs or guns to Mexico; how would Mexico deal with the Americans? Would they give them a court date? No WAY IN H_LL! You’d go straight to prison or a really Sh_ty jail! No questions asked!

      Good. Any forces that side with Obama to do that, which will happen with a midnight executive order also overturning the posse comatatus laws; will become targets as we defend our home. If they chose to try and take Phoenix, they will learn how many AZians still know how to shoot.

      I pray it does not come to that, but something is coming and quick down the line; I am hearing too many things that are beginning to become very ugly. Most of these are coming from family who are members of the armed forces, and high enough to know.

      Don’t worry, my effective range is 800 yards…I wear glasses now, it has gone down a bit. plus with my arsenal, if I have to go down to my Tommy Gun, we may have lost the battle, but at least it will keep them busy.

      I hope and I pray it never gets to that, and we may joke about it, but at least I do have hope that the Army or Police forces would never turn on it’s own people.

      But then again, look at Syria.

      The difference between here and Syria is we have people raised in freedom, especially with the military; while some will probably follow Obamas orders, lawful or not, I hope the majority will refuse any and all unlawful orders – the other problem is of Homeland Security.

      While most capitals of states are equipped with security to screen and even stop small bands of thugs, with a coordinated move on the part of TSA and other agencies loyal to Obama; infiltration and then a sudden attack from within with a sweep up of our Governor and legislatures could be done all too easily.

      Most places are secured to keep people out, not to stop those already on the inside.

      Also, I can see Obama arranging to use social media, say Twitter, to do a psy-op to generate an event for him to crash home on us. Imagine if one or more people all of a sudde, falsely tweeted that ‘something going on here’ or ‘there are bodies on the street below my office windows’ and the like.

      It’s not that difficult for amateurs to do and to have dome (look at the flash mob attacks), so with the right gear and agents, Obama can come up with a very realistic one that will be hard to disprove.

      I just wish I could figure out what is coming; I pray I am wrong, but too many things are going ugly too fast.

      Very glad for Jan doin all she can. We have supported the Arizona defense fund and the Fence fund and we have also contributed to Sherif Joe Arpaio.

      Joe needs more help and any contributions to his re elect fund will help Jan hold on to an extremely important part of her enforcement arm. They are a great team but they need each other. We don’t want to lose Joe to a politically correct do nothing. Lets all help Joe get re elected.
