‘Arizona’s Shock Doctrine’: Progressives Use Singing, Costumed Little Kids to Protest Immigration Bills

Young children dressed in doctors’ coats, hard hats and police uniforms posed as political props Wednesday as progressive groups protested proposed immigration legislation at the Arizona Capitol.

The Repeal Coalition, an organization known for its work advocating the repeal of SB 1070, the state’s controversial illegal immigration crackdown law, led the protest. Cassandra Brown, a community organizer for the group, told State Press that the kids‘ costumes were meant to symbolize how the bills would harm the future of the state’s children.

“We want to wedge a space in the immigration debate for youth so they can stand up to the hateful legislation that affects them and their families,” Belson said.

“What do we want?” a young girl chanted into a megaphone held to her mouth by Belson as the crowd responded, “Freedom!”  The children participated in a “sit-in” and reportedly sang songs, including “This Little Light of Mine.”

Jeff Biggers, a liberal blogger for Alternet, praised the unorthodox protest Thursday. “Call it Arizona’s Shock Doctrine. And the children are the shock troops,” he wrote. “On the heels of an unforgiving year of outrageous state rebellion, children in Arizona have had to create their own book of humanity — if only to defend their state’s diverse heritage and basic human rights.”

The liberal group was also hailed for fighting what Arizona Republic columnist E.J. Montini called a legislative “war on children.”

Among other bills being considered by the state legislature, the Repeal Coalition protested SB 1611, a bill that would require parents or guardians to provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency to enroll a child in public school. The bill would also require proof of citizenship for students applying to attend a community college or university.

“We want the Arizona State Legislature to see face-to-face whose future they are damaging with these hateful laws,” the group said in its event announcement.  “Please mobilize the youth in your communities to attend this important event! Ask them to dress up in a costume of what they would like to do when they grow up to show the Legislature that their laws will destroy Arizona’s future.”

Maria Amaral’s two uncles were deported two weeks ago and the 13-year-old middle school student said she traveled from Flagstaff with other youngsters to protest the bills’ potential impacts on families. “I want to do something that is good for the cause,” she said. “I don’t want to lose more of my family than I already have.”

Professor Gerald Wood attended the protest against SB 1611 because it would deny many illegal residents access to college. “These laws make it really hard and cut off all avenues for people to better themselves,” Wood said. “It’s important for young people to come to these types of protests because they can see other people fighting and feel empowered to say what is happening to them.”

Nine-year-old Malcolm Olson spoke to the crowd about his plans to become a baseball player one day, but admitted he was afraid many of his classmates would be deported. “My friends are endangered and threatened and I don’t want them to go to Mexico and live on the streets,” he said. “I want them to stay here and have a good education.”

On Thursday, the Arizona Senate voted down the measures, but many legislators are predicting the battle over immigration law will continue.

“These bills will be back again next year,” one state senator predicted.

    those in congress that do not demand our borders be protected
    and all laws be followed should be charged with murder

    2 thoughts…

    1) I guess illegals are re-defining all those “Jobs that Americans don’t want to do” from picking lettuce/washing cars, to now include police, firefighters,teachers, and (dare I say it??) President.

    2) They seem to believe that since they screwed up their own country they’re now fully qualified and therefore should have the right to screw up ours. Apparently the Mexican motto..“spread the misery”, is still held close to the heart.

    One law urgently needed…for every 1 illegal registered in a State funded school, the per student payment is reduced by 2 students. It’s the socialists running most public schools that are allowing these kids in, and they should pay for their irresponsibilities.

    The left has been using the children of illegals’ as pawns for years – while one hand is displaying the poor deprived child, their other hand is oppressing the same child. They Say they want the children to learn equally, while they keep them oppressed and contain them in their non-English speaking world. Most of us know that you can‘t move ahead in a culture if you can’t speak the language. Since they continue to prohibit them from learning in English, they must know that they are impeding their ability to have an equal education. By the time the children learn to speak English, they are quite old and have lost many years. Meanwhile, there aren’t enough teachers to teach the multiple languages in this country, so other non-english speaking kids Must learn in English. They are mingling with English speaking kids at recess and during the school day. Following one year of my kids (with six different languages in one class) through to high school – this is how it played out: The kids who learned in their own language continued to stay in their little world even in high school. Two ended up in a gang. The other language kids, who were not taught in their own language mingled with the English speaking children. They succeeded in high school and continued to higher education at the same % as the rest of the kids their age. So, while these people think they are showing the world what is being withheld from the illegal children, they are neglecting to tell the public that they (themselves) are the group of adults withholding the biggest opportunity for these kids.

    It is now undisputable that the very weapons used to kill Border Patrol agent Brian Terry on December 14, 2010, were sold to cartels by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms to fabricate fraudulent ‘evidence’ that would allow the Obama Administration to push for more strict gun control laws and regulations.

    According to whistleblowers working for both the ATFE and Border Patrol, an “unofficial” operation was created in 2010 in which the ATFE would provide weaponry to proxy purchasers in the US, who would trasnport the weaponss across the US/Mexican border and sell them to members of the Mexican drug cartels for the purpose of manufacturing evidence – “evidence,” that would reward the ATFE with increased power and resources to initiate greater gun control mechanisms instigated the very problem they were facilitating, and inflate support for more strict gun control. Regardless of the fact that the most recent conclusionary reports show that over 90% of all weapons used by the Mexican cartels come from South America, or Mexico’s very own police and military force, the ATFE continued with the project, unbeknownst to even the Mexican authorities.

    Surveillance footage of the weapon sales can be viewed in the CBS segment below. Early federal statements denied that such an incident ever took place.

    Assurances were granted that the ATFE and BP informants would come under the whistleblower protections offered by Senator Grassley of Iowa, ranking member of the Judiciary Committee. Rather than assist Mr. Grassley, Phoenix, AZ ATF began to implement retaliatory punishments against whistleblower agents.

    4 of 5 cartel members were caught just 2 to 3 miles from the shooting scene, hours after the incident, carrying the very weapons sold to them by the ATFE. An extended manhunt was initiated for a suspected fifth person who fled the scene, and has yet to be found; the FBI now claims that there was never a fifth suspect. Of the 4 suspects arrested, 3 have been cleared, being charged only with illegal entry into the United States – a misdemeanor, in which they will simply be deported. While one might think that it appears that this string of actions indicates that law enforcement just might have their murder suspect dead to rights, you would be mistaken. The fourth suspect is simply being charged with illegal re-entry into the US, as the man has an arrest record for previous instances of illegal entry, and will, thusly, require additional time in court.

    Why not? any time a US citizen enrolls their children – in any school – in the USA – ALL birth records are required….and more.

    Besides, Arizona needs to balance its state budget – so why not address the ILLEGAL ALIEN issue. Enough is enough.

    No one should be given Special Treatment – to not produce their birth records – to prove their citizenship – including an acornseiuvoterigged president.

    As a naturalized citizen (i was born in Canada) I am thoroughly offended by the attitude of the illegals and their assumed rights. My parents immigrated to Canada after WWII because the quotas for immigration from Europe were quite restricted. Their goal was US citizenship, they learned english, studied the constitution, waited their 7 years and proudly took their test to become Americans. The flags they received on that day (small desktop flags on poles) were proudly on display on my father’s desk till the day he died.
    I’m a USN vet and am proud to have served my country. These illegals should be shown the door and made to return to their countries of origin. No ifs ands or buts, period.

    I submit it tis time to send in our armed forces to protect the southern border, anyone crossing our border illegally should be sent to a Mexican type prison for life, the big difference these prisoners will be forced into labor which will enable this country’s infrastructure to be improved. Should the offending person be bringing in illicit drugs, weapons or other illegal products they get to make gravel from hot lava for the roads which need repairing.

    Is there precedent for child-pornography or intimidation of a minor, that would put these !@#$% groups in check. They are using, (not unlike Hitler and Goebbels), children for a political message. I know this somehow infringes on their rights as a child. But just as whackjobs use kids for gross sexual gain, imo, this is the same, but causing mental anguish.
    What next? A newborn fresh from the womb doing commercial spots.
    Being a proud citizen of AZ and the USA, I find this whole argument disgusting, illegal and extremely immoral. But hey, I don‘t come from a country that won’t provide for it’s citizens. Ask an immigrant who did it the legal way how they feel.

      NO MORE FREE MONEY!!! For anyone. The poor, the banks, the car companies, the unions, etc. If someone wants government money they must give something in return. Their time, their mind, their services, etc… There would be no volunteer shortage for charities if we made poor people get off their couches and from behind their cable tv and clean highways or peel potatoes at soup kitchens or clean graffiti.       In other news, Gov Klan Brewer is doing her best to destroy the state of Arizona.

      300,000 people are going to *die* without transplants or medical because Brewer wants to save money and hand the difference over to her rich compadres later on.

      Is it any *surprise* how the Republican Party views human life?
      To them, we’re just cattle: Not worth their time, compassion, or even money.

      So we’re left out to fend for ourselves and then die needlessly because nobody on that side of the coin gives a rat’s a$$.

      Foreign National Illegal Aliens and their Socialist labor movement supporters are using children too young to know what they are being used for. These children do not bring tears, bleeding hearts, or sympathy but a resolve to ensure that our politicians, businesses and owners that live in the USA obey the laws of the land and most of all “We the People”.

      This shall include the Constitution, its amendments and the RULE by the majority of citizens as prescribed by the laws of this land, which shall exclude international law. We are a free and sovereign nation (RINOS best listen) and are subject to ourselves and to nothing or no one else.

      These unwelcomed parasites proclaim Americans are bad people that want laws of OUR nation and states fulfilled. They realize the party is over for them and the children they freely submitted, as shields in this war is by their hand not ours. The war they have undertaken is with the support of those radical and dangerous anti-Americans who think that an “international workers government” is the answer to their dream. They do not have the right to OUR dream. It was not lying on the ground for a passerby to pick up; WE had to build it with our blood-sweat and tears. We dang sure did not make it for them or anyone else in this world. Selfish, yes, we have the right it is OURs.

      We made doctors, scientist, engineers, police and such long before they crossed THE line of legal separation of sovereign nations. We do not need China, India or Mexico to be the leader of the free world as we have done it for centuries without them. While they were herding goats, we went to the moon and they have been on earth almost as long as we have, what did they do nothing!

      Foreign Nationals have done something to us not for us they broke our economy. The thanks for us helping them is a war against OUR laws and sovereignty.

      We maintain OUR civility and obey the laws and they do not by choice. The ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONALS bring children into this world to USE them for personal gain and a sympathetic-wedge. There is no sympathy for such action because they did it with full knowledge of the consequences and the weight of their actions is upon them not Americans.

      The Socialist have tried since the mid 1800s and have never succeeded, nor has the Fascist or Communist. Socialism was created in France in the 1800s, Fascism in Italy, and Communism in Russian states. None of them were ever implemented or practiced not one.

      Hitler played the words for a time with Mussolini but abandoned it along with Mussolini. Adolf went into his invention of the National Socialist German Workers Party and it was never implemented as well. Do not call Hitler a Fascist; he was not that is an Italian thing.

      Those parties simply had tyrannical dictators just as it would be here in this present time if we allow it.

      Funny, you had no immigration laws or borders much less horses or tomahawks. You were nomads and followed the herds like the Egyptions and other tribes. You warred and killed among the other tribes and never let Mexicians in any native tribal land. The never made it past the Mexico valley until near 1800. The Spanish was here before them.       It won’t until the kill the golden goose that laid their golden egg. When states and the feds are completely broke it won’t matter if they are legal or not things will just get bad for everybody. Then no one will be able to get a “College” education because there will be no more colleges except for the progressive elites like it was in the 18th century. Progressives complain that Conservatives want to take the country backwards to the 1950′s well I say that Progressives want to take us back to the days of Noah, the Stone age, when there were no cars or horse drawn carriages and you had to hunt with a spear because there were no guns yet invented… And at least the Unions might survive because they would create wars to steal food from those that they felt owed them food.

      That is when the insanity will stop, maybe not.

      According to your statement, I had assumed you were proclaiming to be native to America aka Indian. If everyone was native to a continent and no migration occurred, how did the accidental appearance of man happen all over the world? It did not that is why ALL migrated from one place to many.

      To continue my previous litany, the so called native tribes of North America MIGRATED from the Chinese Mongolia area and had to wait for the “ICE AGE TO END” before leaving Alaska where the were hold up for about a thousand yrs or so.

      Many went on to South America and later yet rejoined in Peru before their trek to the valley of Mexico as Incas, Aztecs, Mayas and that other heathen tribe that were beat by the Spanish Inquisition in 1521 or 31.

      As far as Malcolm Olson’s concern about his friends being deported, why doesn’t he ask them to come in “throught the front door”, then they wouldn’t be deported! This is pathetic! Using kids to protest the respect of established law. Illegals shouldn’t get anything but a one-way ticket back to their point of origin. Why don’t these illegals go back to their countries of origin and fight for reform there, instead of trying to change this country to fit them?

      Why so upset about transplants? Here I know how to make you feel better, just think of it as late term abortions. The number you plucked out of the air is about half of the abortions Planned Parenthood will perform this year. BTW are these all illegal aliens getting transplants on the taxpayer dime? Maybe they should go back to Mexico for some of that wonderful socialized health care.

      There should be a law against using and abusing children in this way. Of course the one in charge for now support this abuse so there won’t be much we can do about it now. However, using these children in this way has brought these wackos to a new low that will stick with them for the rest of their lives. Especially since as Jesus said about hurting a child, these wackos will be judged according to Him.
