LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A member of a northern Arkansas school board, commenting on campaign to get people to wear purple to show support for bullied gay and lesbian youth, purportedly posted on Facebook that the only way he would wear purple is “if they all commit suicide.”
The Arkansas Department of Education on Wednesday condemned the alleged posting by Midland School Board member Clint McCance.
The Advocate, a magazine that reports about gay issues, first reported about the posting on its website. The Facebook page has been disabled, but The Advocate posted a screen grab of the purported postings that it says someone forwarded to it.
McCance’s alleged posting was in response to a Facebook campaign that asked supporters to wear purple last Wednesday to show solidarity after several gay and lesbian youths killed themselves, reportedly because of bullying.
“Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers killed themselves,” McCance allegedly wrote. “The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed thereselves because of their sin.”
McCance didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment Wednesday left on his voicemail. But he told the Arkansas Times that the issue had been “blown out of proportion” and he planned to issue a statement later Wednesday. Officials at the Midland School District said Superintendent Dean Stanley was out of the office and not available for comment.
The Human Rights Campaign, which seeks equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, has called for McCance’s resignation. A Facebook group, “Fire Clint McCance,” had more than 15,000 members by midday Wednesday.
The state Education Department said in a statement Wednesday that it had no jurisdiction over elected school officials but that it would investigate any reports of bullying that arise because of the incident.
“The Arkansas Department of Education strongly condemns remarks or attitudes of this kind and is dismayed to see that a school board official would post something of this insensitive nature on a public forum like Facebook,” the department said.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 2:19pmYou know what….Agree or disagree with homosexuality but, I know for one its not a choice and I always love how people use religion when its beneficial, take a look at yourself and clarify the bible, live it all or none but dont pick and choose to make yourself look all moral because if you are preeching hate YOU’RE NOT!! This guy should be fired he is there to help all kids get throught WHATEVER they need to, not pick and choose who should be safe, thats what he is paid to do. Think about your kids for a moment, now think of finding them dead, how would you feel them. Agree or disagree but do not condemn, because I think its very clear in the bible that, THAT is NOT your place

but science does not support your desire.Where is the scientific evidence to prove what you claim to

Richard Fitzgibbons and other seem to disagree with you?In my experience it is not those who cite the authority of Scripture that condemn the homosexual their choice of behavior condemns them.
read John Chapter 3: and tell me what it says about what the condemnation is. My son will either repent and turn from that chosen lifestyle– or he will die in his sins. IF I found him dead– I would mourn him-he is my son, But I would know he chose death rather than life-darkness rather than to

It is an abomination and sickening and we are tired of having it shoved down our throats. I do have compassion and feel sorry for those human beings of any orientation or sex, or race etc, being bullied. I remember being bullied in Australia when I was a child for being born in the United States. As for the all the going to hell not going to hell comments, I will leave that alone except for one comment; God cannot allow sin in the least degree in his presence! That is why he sent his Only Begotten Son to the earth to save man from sin (not in their sins), if they chose to give up their sins and follow Christ!

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 11:27amNot one person can live a life without sin. You surely can’t, even through are suggesting that you have given up your sins… I tell you the truth, you HAVE sinned today, whether you know it or not. John 3:16-18 states that ALL who believe in Christ will be saved and are not condemned, and this includes homosexuals who believe.
Many of you say that if homosexuals just prayed harder, and believed more then they wouldn’t be gay anymore. I have seen the work of Christ in someone’s life. I have seen Christ working in my own life, and I’m still gay. If God wants me to be gay, then there is nothing anyone on this earth can say to do to change that. I have accepted that God has created me as He wants me to be to do His will — as a gay man. Whether or not you want to believe that is no concern for me. I will follow where God leads me.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 7:23pm@Greyhound: Leaving religion out of the equation since it offends so many, let’s consider only the laws of Mother Nature … can homosexuals reproduce? Where would our progeny be if everyone were homosexual? I don’t approve of the lifestyle but like many others, if that is their choice, then that is their choice. Where my feathers get ruffled are those instances when we are “forced” to recognize or “accept” something that we don’t believe is natural (according to Mother Nature). Don‘t make me wear a purple shirt in honor of something that I don’t agree with (not speaking of the suicide which is sad to contemplate)! If you want to wear a purple shirt .. that’s your business. And definitely don’t teach my children and grandchildren to “accept” an alternative life style that contradicts what I believe. Am so tired of all this BS – what more do these alternative people want? To adopt children and confuse their minds? Wouldn’t you love to be a child of a same sex “union” being constantly placed in the position of explaining or condoning a lifestyle with which the majority of the population disagrees. Actions can be intrinsically evil…but persons cannot because they would have to desire to do evil which no one really does. We all desire the Good but because of original sin our perception of what is good is skewed. A homosexual desires a good (sexual pleasure, intimacy with another) but the seek that good in a perverse way (i.e. outside of marriage with a member of the same sex). Posted on October 27, 2010 at 11:01pm@The Blazers, my position on this tends to be skewed to one side on matters of homosexuality, so I will focus on this instead:
As a chaplain one thing I often find being called is some version of “demon; demonic; the devil” and whatever else you wish to attach to it. “Lucifer incarnate” was one of my favorites. So no suprise comes to myself with this. However, if it is true, that someone wishes others suicide for their sins is not teaching the true love of God and of Jesus; do not like the ACTIONS one does, including self, but DO NOT condemn the PERSON themselves.
To teach others that a person should suicide themselves is teaching of hate, bigotry, and ignorance deliberately made as truth.
Seperation of Person from their Actions is not easy, and I still have problems a lot of times, yet I honestly believe this is one of the core tenents of the Gospels, and of a true life of faith.
TruthTalker
Posted on October 27, 2010 at 11:20pmSnow, A demonic/demon trait is an intrinsic trait. It cannot be seperated from the individual who has committed the act, again because it is intrinsic. Molestation, is intrinsically evil. Therefore the person commiting a molestation is evil. Once again, it cannot be seperated from the individual. I just believe there are certain things that are done that cannot be seperated from those who do them.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 4:08amOk, I’m gay and understand not everyone agrees with my life style and THATS FINE but nothing irks me more than playing the religon card. I’m a baptised Methodist and I was taught that god loves all his children, and I refuse to beleive that God will punish me for living a happy successful life. And if I do go to hell for being gay? So be it… I’ll see all of you there (not loving all God’s children is a sin last time I checked). And you know what else? If I do a lot of good in my life but I‘m denied heaven because I’m gay then I‘m sorry I don’t want to be apart of such a hypocritical kingdom. Do you have to agree with me or be my friend? Hell no… But the way some people on this post think homosexuals are lower than the gum stuck to the botttom of their shoe is just discusting… Again, see you in hell.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 4:44am@CHUNKS I‘m a Christian and I don’t think you’ll go to hell for being gay. You might go for something else, or there might not even be such thing as a hell, so who knows. I crack jokes on every group imaginable, including gays, but the gay people I’ve known have been decent-hearted people. Total pervs, mind you, but decent people nonetheless. What the hell do I know? I’d say if you live a good life, God ain’t gonna care about the fudge packing. Just my opinion. I wouldn’t take to heart anything you read on the internet anyway.

My son just out of diapers. the local public high school was party to national sin of making schools gay friendly(2000) My son was encouraged by his counselor and by evil people who called themselves his friends to “try it-the gay lifestyle choice– and “Decide for himself. Now he thinks he‘s gay and can’t change and is doing the self destructive drug thing as well.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 10:42amChunks: I completely agree with you! Who are we to judge other people? If my neighbor is gay, it doesn’t infringe on my rights at all; therefore, it is none of my business. Live and let live people! STOP SPREADING THE HATE!!!! All of these nasty comments are the reason the left think we are all hate mongers! Respect yourself and respect other people.
If you believe that the gay lifestyle is wrong because of your religion (I can‘t imagine a God that doesn’t love all his children as he created us all), so be it, but that has nothing to do with the rights and freedoms granted by the our Constitution. If heterosexuals have the right to get legally married, those same rights should apply to gay couples because it is not the governments right or responsibility to choose who we marry. EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL; STOP SPREADING THE HATE!

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 10:48amSTONYBURK: If you think your sons “friends and counselors” talked him “into” being Gay, you have lost your mind. A person can’t just talk another person into being gay. You either are you aren’t. We are born either gay or straight, sweetie. I‘m sure if your son’s friends and counselors told him to try the gay lifestyle it was because he had indicated in some way that maybe he felt he was gay.
Just accept the fact that God made your son who he is, and he happens to be gay. Love him unconditionally and accept him for who he is.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 12:38pmIt is not ok to wish anyone especially children to kill themselves. IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE A DISCUSSION TO DECIDE THIS…. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU. I personally do not like homosexuality itself. I hate it being on TV for our kids to see. I hate that some teach it is an optional lifestyle. It should definatly be treated as a disorder / birth defect. But HOW STUPID WOULD YOU HAVE TO BE TO WISH DEATH UPON A CHILD?????? Or anyone else for that matter.

Posted on October 29, 2010 at 12:32amHa, I‘m the only conservative gay you’ll probably ever meet, and “limp wristed libs”? Excuse me I’m quite a gear head, I played many sports over the years, and I’m a student pilot. I‘m not the manliest guy around but I’m far from that typical stereotype, so please don’t stereotype me, it’s insulting and makes you look like an idiot, plus even if I fit that stereotype to the bone WHO THE F*** CARES?
Report Post »Too add, I, nor any homosexuals I know “push” kids to be gay, when a kid thinks he or she is gay I don’t say or imply “YES YOU ARE!” Instead I find its best just to talk to them about it, just like you would if your child was having problems with a bully at school. From personal experience this is an EXTREMELY hard time for young adults to deal with, and me saying “YES! You HAVE to be gay!“ is just as bad as you saying ”NO! You CAN’T be gay!” again, this just makes you look like a hypocritical idiot. Also, the same guys that say “homosexuality is a disease/disorder and it can be fixed!”
First: STFU
Second: you have NO idea what young adults have to go through when figuring out their sexuality, I know this from personal experience and since you’re obviously “Big tough straight guy” you have ZERO idea what I or other gay people go through… yeah… right, and you’re probably one of those 40 something arm chair quarterbacks who think they can be better then NFL athletes… yeah dude… YOU’RE cool…
Finally, I’ve said this a thousand times, you don’t have to agree with me or my life style but the hate is disgusting, I’m not trying to push “can’t we all just get along?” BS but come on, aren’t we past stereotypes and put downs? What are we, 12?
Side note: I’m glad I found The Blaze by the way; it’s so hard to have a mature intelligent debate now a day!
