Doughherty Siblings Spotted in Colorado

UPDATE: Colorado State Patrol says that the Dougherty siblings, who are accused of crimes in Florida and Georgia, were caught after a 100-mph car chase near Walsenburg, Colorado. CBS Denver reports that the trio appeared to be captured after a car chase ended a mile north of Walsenburg Wednesday morning. Two were quickly arrested, the third was arrested on foot. Authorities said Tuesday they received “credible information” that people matching the description of three siblings connected to the crimes were spotted in Colorado.

The siblings– 21-year-old Ryan Edward Dougherty, 26-year-old Dylan Dougherty Stanley and 29-year-old Lee Grace Dougherty, are believed to be armed and dangerous and heading to a campground or rural area to escape detection, said Dave Joly, spokesman for the FBI’s Denver office.

ABC News reports on the Colorado sighting:

A nationwide manhunt for the Dougherty siblings began Aug. 2. The three are suspected of firing at least 20 shots at a Florida officer who tried to pull them over for speeding in a chase at speeds up to 100 mph. The officer was unharmed.

Hours later, three people wearing masks robbed a bank in Valdosta, Ga., about 210 miles north. One robber brandished an AK-47 assault rifle while another was photographed by a security camera waving a machine pistol, the FBI said.

“We believe they pose an imminent threat to the community we serve,” Joly said.

The possible sighting near Interstate 25 north of downtown Colorado Springs was reported around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Colorado Springs police said.

Sgt. Steven Noblitt said it hasn’t been confirmed that the siblings are in the area, but the FBI said the people spotted Tuesday were in a small white Subaru Impreza with the stolen Texas license plate LCS 909. The crime suspects were last seen in a 2006 white Impreza.

“We don’t have 100 percent identification, but it sure appears they were here with the information we have at this time,” Noblitt said.

Authorities released few other details, but Joly said the people who were spotted made a cash purchase at an outdoors store, suggesting they may be trying to camp. He didn’t know what they bought.

The mother of the two boys and girl told the Associated Press Tuesday that she urges her children to turn themselves in.

“You made some bad mistakes, but so far no one has been physically harmed,” said the group’s mother Barbara Bell. “The only safe thing, the only right thing, the only good thing– possible thing to do is for you to turn yourselves in.”

Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco said one of the suspects had sent a text message to their mother that said “…we all have to die,” local station WTVT reported.

Billboards of the siblings had gone up across the southeastern United States.

All three siblings already have criminal records.

Ryan is a registered sex offender who was convicted of sending sexually explicit messages to an 11-year-old girl. He had been registered as a sex offender Monday, and issued an ankle monitoring bracelet. The device was found cut off near the scene of the car chase.

Lee-Grace worked as an exotic dancer at a Florida srtip club and was charged earlier in the year for a hit-and-run crash and battery. Big brother Dylan had previously been charged with marijuana possession.

ABC News reports that Ryan feared that his sex offender status would prevent him from seeing his soon to be born child.

    Why did they charge this kid with a sexting offence and not Anthony Weiner? Weiner was a congressman and should have been held to a higher standard, even the people of NY thought Weiners actions were okay…If it was okay for the Weiner why not this kid??? Looks to me like they were tired of being skewed over by the government…none of you can tell me that you aren’t tired of it…I doubt if the kid knew he was sexting an 11 yr. old, if he did, burn him…

    We just keep making more and more actions and words into crimes thus creating more and more criminals who once found guilty of some small issue (where they probably haven‘t violated another person’s freedom, privacy or property) then take it to another level where they eventually go to jail and then learn how to become a professional criminal and we just keep paying and paying for them to have another and another and another chance. All criminals should have to work to pay their debt to society. They should have no rights in prison, just work, eat, sleep and do it all over again and again and again until they think and know nothing else.

    Aww…they didn’t last too long. It was good to have some whites shooting up the place for a change.Gives me hope that not all whites have believed the lib propaganda about guns. Of course….they were criminals and it is good that they did not hurt any innocent people. Just wish they had lasted longer on the run…..call it racial pride.

    At least they tried. I give them credit for that. Everything else is going to hell and greed has won. In Colorado you got wilderness galore and they should of went deep into the back-country without the car. Have some back-country knowledge and you can escape until you screw up by going back to the city.

    Again youth is wasted on the young. What a shame. Probably a broken marriage. They never mentioned a Father in the story. Lack of family discipline. Same thing as goes on in the inner city. If you were a decent Father would you let your Daughter strip? I don’t think so. These kids, if lucky, will be jumped and arrested before any shots are fired. Otherwise, it looks like they want to go out like Bonnie and Clyde. Too bad. Very sad.
