MARINETTE, Wis. (AP) — A student armed with a handgun held nearly two dozen students and a teacher hostage in a Wisconsin high school for about five hours before shooting himself when police broke into the classroom, authorities said Monday. No other injuries were reported.
Officers who were outside the Marinette High School classroom said they heard three gunshots shortly after 8 p.m. and busted through the door, said Police Chief Jeff Skorik. The 15-year-old male gunman then shot himself.
Skorik said the teen was taken to an area hospital and his condition was not immediately known Monday night.
Five of the 23 students who had been taken hostage about 3 p.m. had been released about 20 minutes before police entered the classroom because they told the gunman they had to use the bathroom, Skorik said.
The other 18 students and the female teacher, who had acted as a mediator between the male hostage-taker and authorities, were released unharmed once officers were inside.
Skorik said the gunman had refused to communicate with officials during the standoff, but allowed the teacher to speak with authorities by phone.

You were walking down that the hall, you avoided their eyes, still they saw you coming.
Maybe they ignored you, maybe they made a comment, just snickered something quietly only you would hear. You just kept on walking… do you remember?
I was there…
in that deep blue sea, those long halls… all those fishes you and me.
I was there…but they told you not to believe.
When you walk those halls, remember me.
I am here,
joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea,
joy to those who walk with me.

Unfortunately our 2nd amendment liberties are on the hit list to be stripped from the american people, and it is cases like this that will be used against law abiding citizens.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 9:59pmWhat does the “new” Governor being pro conceal and carry have to do with this ???
Report Post »One must be 21 years of age to purchase and receive a conceal/carry permit. So therefore, this law doesn’t apply to this student. FACT is, he broke the law bringing a gun on School Property and possessing a gun as a minor. No Conceal/Carry Law permits a gun to be carried on any Public School Property. So, whether this “right” existed or not, is irrelevant in this case.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 10:08pmThen they’d use a Crossbow … then a Knife … then an Axe … then a Hammer … then a Bat … then a Box Cutter … then a Crowbar … Should we begin proceedings to ban all those items as well ???
Should we ban the “Bic” Lighter because arsonists use them to start fires ???
What about matches, should the be banned too ???
How about banning alcohol ??? More Americans are killed by alcohol related deaths than guns.
Guns don’t jump off the walls or counters and kill people. People “use” guns to kill people. They also use knives, yet we don’t discuss banning them. People use rope to strangle people, yet we don’t discuss banning rope.
Liberals think that by removing guns, they will cure the problem. “Criminals” commit crimes, not lawful citizens that choose to own a gun. Ban guns and you disarm the lawful. All that does is increase the victims for the “Criminals” … The Key Word Here Is: CRIMINAL
Liberals think they can cure all and solve all problems by cowarding down.
Report Post »conservativeone
Posted on November 29, 2010 at 10:11pmI think ALL Liberals should put a sign on their Front Lawn stating their home is a “Gun Free” Home.
Report Post »If they hate the ownership of guns so much, go ahead and let the Criminals know that their home is not protected by a “lawful” gun owner.
FACT is, Liberals are protected by what’s called “Herd Protection” … The more homes criminals “think” have guns, the better. So, Liberals are provided an umbrella of protection from the very thing they despise.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 11:06pmanother misguided that think it was the guns that did this. will you outlaw baseball bats if that is what would have been used??
Report Post »silentwatcher
Posted on November 29, 2010 at 11:09pmcriminals commit crimes of opportunity. why take guns, knives, bats, etc away? weapons will always be used by the criminal. But hey, thinking on your level, why not just lock EVERYBODY up – there, you have no more crime.

Quick TIDES foundation give us another 7000 page bill banning every else that you haven’t banned allready.
Report Post »mrlogan3
Posted on November 30, 2010 at 11:56am@conservativeone The reason that those other items aren’t banned are because they have practical uses. A gun is only made to wound or kill. I don’t think that we can ban guns altogether now because yes, criminals would be able to get them.

Pretty sad. The education system deals with kids that are required to be medicated daily, to reduce aggressive behavior. These children are in the elementary grade levels. Posted on November 29, 2010 at 9:22pmkids are not allowed to deal with their emotions naturally nor are they taught how to deal with conflict. My kids attended a school where the boys all carried pocket knives, boys and girls were taught to shoot and if they had to slug it out, teachers stood back let them .After the fight they went to to the office and received their council and left alone for awhile to solve the conflict themselves in the manner of children or age group. No one shot anyone, stabbed anyone and bullies, usually got their nose bloodied and no cops were called or drugs given to make them behave in away as not to bug the teachers.
Report Post »In other words, kids learned to respect each other and their teachers and parents.Either that or they were afraid someone would beat the crap out of them.
silentwatcher
Posted on November 29, 2010 at 10:56pmNot many parents relate with their kids, not many even have much to do with them. Many, many kids are raised by neighborhood societies. Wrong, I know, but I didn’t raise my kids that way, I stays interested, involved, and showed them overwhelming attention.
We are living in a crumbling society.

Posted on November 30, 2010 at 7:04amMEAGANSMOM, that sounds like something out of the past – way past. It makes alot of sense but I don’t see it happening in places like LA where gangs are prevalent; they would probably love to be able to fight (of course they would draw guns and shoot each other) but the mediation part would be great. I wish there was more “conflict” training. If kids were getting a real education and were taught from an early age that it was important perhaps their future would look different. Prayers go out to the family of this young man.

If schools werent so scared of weapons maybe a teacher would have been armed and able to confront the kid and stop this. But no schools are in gun free zones which result in events like this leaving the innocent unable to defend themselves! The criminal element will break whatever law they want where the laws est only leave law abiding ppl to be future victims.
Lose the laws restricting law abiding citizens and add massive teeth to laws for crimes committed with a weapon.

I say lock him up if he is sick or lock him up for a criminal act, either way he needs to be put somewhere where he can’t hurt innocent people.
