UPDATE III: BBC reports that more than 200 people have been arrested thus far at Occupy Wall Street while CBS reports that nearly 400 Occupiers have been arrested across the country during these November 17 marches.

NEW YORK (The Blaze/AP) — Police arrested protesters who sat on the ground and blocked traffic into New York’s financial district on Thursday, part of a day of mass gatherings in response to efforts to break up Occupy Wall Street camps nationwide.
Police in riot helmets hauled several protesters to their feet and handcuffed them one block from Wall Street.

“All day, all week, shut down Wall Street!” the crowd chanted.
After several arrests, most of the protesters retreated down the street. A line of riot police followed them.
“You do not have a parade permit! You are blocking the street!” a police officer told protesters through a bullhorn.
The congestion brought taxis and delivery trucks to a halt.

The protest had been planned before the city and park owners cracked down on the encampment in Zuccotti Park, but took on added importance to the protesters after tents, tarps and sleeping bags were cleared out early Tuesday and the granite plaza across the street from the World Trade Center site was cleaned for the first time since the group arrived more than two months ago.
“This is a critical moment for the movement given what happened the other night,” said Paul Knick, 44, a software engineer from Montclair, N.J. “It seems like there‘s a concerted effort to stop the movement and I’m here to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
The confrontations in New York followed early-morning arrests in Dallas, where police evicted dozens of protesters from their campsite near City Hall citing public safety and hygiene issues. They arrested 18 protesters who refused to leave.

Transit officials were preparing to deal with a crush of people as part of the protest billed as a national day of action. The group announced it would rally near the New York Stock Exchange, then fan out across Manhattan and head to subways, before gathering downtown and marching over the Brooklyn bridge.
Passer-by Gene Williams, a 57-year-old bond trader, joked that he was “one of the bad guys” but that he empathized with the demonstrators.
“They have a point in a lot of ways,” he said. “The fact of the matter is, there is a schism between the rich and the poor and it’s getting wider.”
Similar protests were planned around the county.
New York City officials said they had not spoken to demonstrators but were aware of the plans.
“The protesters are calling for a massive event aimed at disrupting major parts of the city,” Deputy Mayor Howard Wolfson said. “We will be prepared for that.”
The New York Daily News reports the protesters will try and disguise themselves as businesspeople:
The “day of action” is to begin early, with protesters converging on Wall Street camouflaged in business suits hoping to blend in with office workers trooping out of the subway.
“We will rise from beneath. They can’t stop all of us. It’s going to get crazy,” vowed one organizer. “They took the first shot Tuesday night. [Thursday] we return fire. We will be peaceful, but we will resist.”
The city said it was bracing for tens of thousands of people in the streets.

The New York Daily News is now reporting that over 100 have been arrested and that the occupiers are planning a march on City Hall and the Brooklyn Bridge. You can see pictures of the police preparing for the action here.

Pretty funny since they would rarely report anything regarding the TEA Party and only after the fact and numbers WAY low.

I was watching a live feed from one of the demonstrators today. He seemed to be reporting very accurately on what was happening and his own number estimate was between 400 and 1000 people were at Wall Street at 9:30am (Eastern Time). That would seem that the Fox report was accurate.

Since I do contract work, I don’t get any unemployment either (only got around 16 weeks unemployment back in 2010 before starting the on again off again contract work which don’t pay much). Just hang in there and before you support Newt, investigate his role is the passage of both NAFTA and GATT that directly caused your situation; mine too. I’m sticking with Mr. Cain. I am a baby boomer…I remember Vietnam…but I remember a lot of things that the “ME” or the “NOW” generation don’t know anything about. My husband served in Vietnam in the 60s and he said, he is the last of that generation that knew what fighting for freedom was. There is no way his generation of soldiers would have ever turned on the US citizens, but he’s not so sure of this generation of soldiers. He thinks it might be easier to have these soldiers turn on the American people..but hopes he’s wrong. He thinks it may be easier to take our gun rights away too once his generation is gone.

Actually, I wouldn’t consider that possible until after GenX is gone (the mid 30‘s through mid 40’s crowd right now). We’re pegged consistently as libertarian-conservative almost across the board. This is why you’re seeing a lot more stay at home moms, a rise in gun ownership and respect for gun rights, and lots of pushing to get back to the Constitution right now. Most tea party events that I attended were replete with GenX. We grew up under the non-watchful eyes of the baby boomers, most of whom were narcissistic idiots (not all, for example you and your husband sound decent). We learned the folly of abandoning tradition and liberty by watching our parents.
No, it will have to come after GenX is gone as well. GenY on the other hand, is by and large, a group of extremely scary, ignorant, entitlement minded gimps. Not all, surely, but a lot of them. I strongly worry for the future of this country once they start getting into power.

My son was over last nite who has served several tours in the east before stepping back into civilian life again, and he shared with me something that he and his combat buddies had noticed that was a real reality check. Wal-marts is the 3rd largest corp. in the world and for the longest time Wal-marts would not carry assault type rifles or ammo for such weapons. Now you can walk into Wal-marts and have a choice between an M-4 or a Ruger Mini 14 as well as buy all the ammo for them there. For him and those he served with this change is a major sign post for them to gear up and be prepared for what lay just ahead of us in 2012 and a collapsing economy. Glenn’s advise and what he clearly reports on actual events is the best found and is posted long before it hits main stream media, if it ever does. We are in a time where we so need to encourage one another as we go through these tough times and in preparing for what lay ahead. I, like your husband A_VT_PREPPER could not see in times past the military turning against us, however now with the gang infiltrations into every branch of the military along with other factors I wonder. I believe in our men and women who serve so faithfully in the military and I believe in our America. Thanks again.
