Developers behind the controversial Ground Zero Mosque are trying to secure $5 million from a federal fund dedicated to rebuilding Lower Manhattan after 9/11, the Daily Beast reports.

The fund contains taxpayer dollars, the report says, and those behind the mosque are trying to secure that money through a “community and cultural enhancement” grant.

The Lower Manhattan Redevelopment Corporation (LMDC), created after 9/11 to oversee rebuilding and fund distribution, is in charge of distributing the grant, designed for community development.

From the Daily Beast:

Park51’s developers clearly had a legal right to apply for the grant. A list of Frequently Asked Questions that accompanied the application specifically states that religious organizations can make funding requests for capital projects “as long as the request is for a facility or portion of a facility that is dedicated to non-religious activities or uses.” According to an individual familiar with the Park51 application, it requests funds to cover a number of cultural, educational and community development aspects of the proposed 13-story building—but the prayer room is excluded from the grant application.

But the question on whether they could have is trumped by the question of whether they should have. The stated aim of the Park51 developers is to provide a community center for lower Manhattan’s 4,000 Muslim residents. Their own website explained that they understood the need to “appeal to the undecided, and change the conversation about Muslims in America.” It’s pretty clear that this play for federal dollars will generate none of that, starting with the lack of disclosure or community consultation before developers submitted their application, which was due November 5th.

“If Imam Feisal and his retinue want know why they’re not trusted, here’s yet another reason,” Irshad Manji, author of The Trouble with Islam and Director of the Moral Courage Project at NYU, told the Daily Beast. “The New Yorkers I speak with have questions about Park51. Requesting money from public coffers without engaging the public shows a staggering lack of empathy—especially from a man who says he’s all about dialogue.”

oldasdirt: We are being played for fools by these muslims, and we don’t even realize that. I was wondering what they’d come up with next, and here it is folks. They want taxpayer monies to build this mosque at Ground Zero, so I guess if they succeed, we’ll be building the mosque for them.
I spent the last few days researching more about this muslim false religion, and what I found was very interesting. Mohammed’s whole family worshiped false gods and false goddesses, and many of them. To these they prayed three times a day, and one of the false gods they worshiped was the false god Allah and his female consort Allat which I have previously written about (in Phoenician/Canaanite language called a Baal). The reason that Mohammed picked this false god for his new religion was that it was a name used in his family as a family name, so he was most familiar with it.
The Quran was not begun until almost 20 years after Mohammed’s death, and it was not completed until about 150 years or so after his death. Mohammed did not write the Quran. It is based upon things that he told his followers, and things that were written on scraps of paper, rocks, or other items. The Quran was written by memory as his followers told what he said. The term Sharia Law is not found in the Quran.
In the Quran, Mohammed acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah, that he was born of a virgin, and that his mother was named Mary. Mohammed also acknowledged that the Torah and the Christian Bible were works that were guidance and light. These are things that the religious leaders of Islam do not want you to know. Mohammed also acknowledged that Moses received the law on Mt. Sinai, and it appears that he visited this sight in his merchant travels. He was also well acquained with the Torah and the Christian Bible, which had been in existence long before the Quran ever came to be. In Mohammed’s travels he learned the history of the Jews and the Christians from them, so was well aware of their history. Though Mohammed understood that Jesus was the Messiah, he did not preach that Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, although many historians wrote about the actual death and resurrection of Jesus, and those accounts would have been available at the time of Mohammed. It is doubtful that Mohammed wrote anything, actually, because he was illiterate. He also suffered from epileptic fits. There are many things about Mohammed and the Quran for anyone to read and study. It is important to study these sites in order to understand the enemy that has come against us. The internet opens up a world of knowledge for us. Practically everything we want to know is at our fingertips.

Mary… What do you think of the Baha’i Faith?

How do you think Baha’i fit into the grand scheme of what is clearly going on?.. namely the culturally suicidal migration of muslims into the West?

      ===

“Mohammed also acknowledged that the Torah and the Christian Bible were works that were guidance and light. These are things that the religious leaders of Islam do not want you to know. You get this wrong in a very important way… The Torah and Christian Bible are considered corrupt.. mohammad taught that jesus was muslim.. mary, moses, abraham are muslim… issac doesn’t exist in islam…

Many people here look to you for good info… make sure you get it right next time…

      005.111
YUSUFALI: “And behold! I inspired the disciples to have faith in Me and Mine Messenger: they said, ‘We have faith, and do thou bear witness that we bow to Allah as Muslims’”.
PICKTHAL: And when I inspired the disciples, (saying): Believe in Me and in My messenger, they said: We believe. Bear witness that we have surrendered (unto Thee) “we are muslims”.
SHAKIR: And when I revealed to the disciples, saying, Believe in Me and My messenger, they said: We believe and bear witness that we submit (ourselves).

vangrungy: I will have to study Baha’i Faith. I did not research that.
I understand that Mohammed believed in the Torah, and the Christian Bible, and that it was thought to be corrupt by muslims who later wrote the Quran, and that they connect them to Allah. In fact I read those passages in the Quran this morning. Yet I wanted to point out his mention of them in the Quran that in a way he verifies their existence. Though I said that the Quran was written long after Mohammed died. In his merchant travels he would have discussed this with the Jews and the Christians that he came in contact with as to their authenticity. I also read in a firsthand account that when the Jews came to Mohammed and asked what to do with an adulteress couple, Mohammed called for the Torah to be read, and judged the couple according to the laws of Moses.
I read that there were many different versions of the Quran written long after Mohammed’s death, and eventually there was one Quran compiled and the other copies destroyed, so who knows exactly what Mohammed actually believed, for that information I believe would be long lost. I will therefore stand by what I wrote this morning that Mohammed understood who Jesus was, yet did not equate him as the Son of God Almighty and said that He did not die on a cross, and that he understood that the Law came down to Moses on Mt. Sinai, etc.. One must understand that the Quran is full of contradictions, and that it did not exist during Mohammed’s day. It was redefined several times before it became the Quran that we have to study today.
I would never want to mislead people in any way. I hope this clarifies what I intended to say this morning. It was just a verification that Mohammed understood who these individuals were from history, seeing the Christian Bible came more than 550 + years before Mohammed, and the Jewish Torah came thousands of years before Mohammed.

Mary, if you want to read a scholarly article on the roots of Islam, read “Allah – the Moon god: The Archeology of The Middle East,” which was published in the Pakistan Christian Post. Fortunately, people are beginning to realize that Islam is a demonic religion and that Allah is not the true God of the Bible, as is definitively illustrated by the comparisons below:

–God cannot lie, nor tempt anyone with evil (Psalm 5:4-5; Habakkuk 1:13; Hebrews 6:18)
      –Allah prides himself on being a liar and is the author of evil (Qur’an 4:142; 3:54; 7:99; 8:30; 10:21; 13:42; 27:50)

–God is immutable (1 Samuel 15:29; Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8)
–Allah is the author of abrogation (Qur’an 2:106; 16:101)

–God is omniscient (Job 37:16; Psalm 147:5; 1 John 3:19-20)
      –Allah makes errors about history (Qur’an 17:1; 18:83-98; 4:157)

      –God is triune (Matthew 28:19)
–Allah says he is unitary and without equal (Qur’an 112: 1-4)

–God gave the world his Son as the sacrifice for the sins of mankind and for the salvation of those who believe in Him (Hebrews 10:10)
–Allah said he has no son and that he tricked the world into believing that Jesus was crucified (Qur’an 4:157; 4:48)

–God will be in Heaven when he judges men and those who are not saved through Christ will be cast into Hell (2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 20:11-15)
–Allah said people will come to him in Hell to be judged (Qur’an 19:66-71)

All Satan has to do is convince people that Jesus did not die for their sins. If he does that, they go to Hell. It seems like he figured out a way to achieve this goal with the religion of Islam, which has at its core the denial of Jesus as Savior.

Those words historically only appear in a personal letter written by Thomas Jefferson to James Madison (if I remember correctly). He he. There seems to be some disagreement here. If there are many loyal readers of The Blaze that suppor the separation of church and state, they sure don’t say so very often.

Clever point about the Massachusetts Constitution, which predates the Federal Constitution, as I am sure you know. Needless to say, the Massachusetts Constitution has no effect in New York, but that’s just a silly detail. Needless to say too that the money in question is specifically mentioned to be from a Federal fund, and therefore subject to federal law. Details, details.

But anyway, if you insist on bringing the MA Constitution up, you might want to note this particular Amendment from the beginning of the 20th century:

Article XVIII, Section 2: “… no such grant, appropriation or use of public money or property or loan of public credit shall be made or authorized for the purpose of founding, maintaining or aiding any church, religious denomination or society.”

      So, that’s all she wrote.

Bloomberg usually gets what he wants. After all he has already been paid for his support. He loves his Grand Cayman account. Or maybe it went into his secret Swiss account. The one that is not taxed.

No words for this? I can sum it up in one sentence.

These are muslims engaged in jihad in an effort to spread Islam in praise of their deity Allah following the methods described by their prophet Mohammed, Jihad.

Muslims, jihad, Islam, Allah, and Mohammed are a few words that come to mind.

      Jihad is real.

I own shares in Fox and other companies via mutual fund investments; they are a publicly traded company after all; as Sconnoly mentions.

      @Rogue

Lets get the pigs together, and I will even throw in a interesting tidbit; if one of the fallen on nine eleven can be proven to have been a muslum, according to some interpretations of the koran, they cannot build the mosque on top of a place where muslum slaughtered muslum.

If the current administration has it’s way, they will approve the funding as a sacrifice to political correctness for what is in their minds are the TRUE victims of 9/11: The terro… I mean freedom fighters. What better sacrifice to political correctness than acknowledgment that we are a despicable country guilty of the murder of billions of Muslims throughout the world through our intentionally murderous policies toward the victims in Palestine? Yeah right! I am sick of this administration bending over to apologize to the Muslim world as if they are the victims!

Did you patriots know that our international scholarship programs now give preferential consideration to blacks in third world countries, so they can be radicalized in and/or empowered by our commie bastions of higher education? That is how Obama senior got his foot in the door, and we know how that ended. As you know, preference is also being shown to Muslims through NASA, for example. We will help build Cordoba House, period. Obama will not be deterred via democratic channels.

      Snowleopard,
There’s a catch. Muslims DID die in the attack, but according to the Qur’an they are martyrs just like the jihadists. Thus jihadists never slaughter other innocent Muslims; only infidels, pigs, and those who commit apostasy.

You may have hit the solution square on the head. Were there any of those who died at 9/11 of the muslim faith? Shouldn’t be too difficult to find out, I wouldn’t think. That should end the controversy – period. In their own terms no less

Unbelievable balls on these people! Mayor Bloomberg may want to consider any comments he makes very closely, as he is thinking of running for president and he was/is in support of them building the mosque at Ground Zero. I know I wouldn’t vote for him because of his stance on this, and lots of times I like his actions. But that would be the straw that broke the camel’s back… get it? Middle Eastern reference?

There is no need for them to build here; it’s an excuse to build their victory mosque and rub it in our face; nothing less!

Is it just me or does it seem like they (Muslim’s) have chosen this ground zero mosque as their US battle ground? I say we give the damn thing to them! They will have to close 10 mosques around ground zero just to pay the rent on this one. If the declining property values don’t break them perhaps taking the wrong donation will. We close them down and we have a net loss of 11 mosques.

Sounds like the same math the Federal Reserve uses when monetizing the debt, I think. Hold on I have to sharpen my pencil. Yep same math!

There is a word for this and the word is “SHRINE”. The muslims want to build their shrine.

The level of Muslim tolerance in this country is so ass-backwards already. I‘m not talking about religious tolerance instead I’m talking about my personal rights being lost so that their rights can be allowed. What’s next .. oh yeah .. what they hope for .. we all become Muslims or else. Here’s my solution, build the damn mosque right next to the mexican border.

We CAN’T let this story get shoved to the back page in the paper. This mosque must be stopped. We CAN NOT allow Muslims to erect a Shrine marking this spot. They have already succeeded with an attacked on America, killing American, bringing about a beginning toward our financial crisis, taking away our rights in the name of protecting our lives, please please please people … USE YOUR VOICE … This MUST be stopped.
