Artist Behind Famed Obama ‘Hope’ Poster Designs Party Invite for Occupy Wall Street

Remember this poster?
Well, the same “street artist” who designed the now-famed Obama “Hope” poster in the soviet-era propagandist style, has just released his latest piece. Shepard Fairey’s most recent creation is an invitation for the “Occupation Party,” which features an image of an afro-clad woman gazing off into the distance, in what is presumably meant to effuse a message of empowerment. The subject bears a striking resemblance to Black Panther and Communist Party activist Angela Davis.
As for the party itself, the festivities are set to kick off this Saturday evening, October 15th, in Times Square. The invitation, intended for the “Awake and Inspired,” reads:
Hundreds of cities across the country will host demonstrations in support of the #Occupy movement. In New York City, dozens of community groups, unions, student organizations and lots and lots of regular folk are taking to the streets in a mass protest that will culminate in Times Square at 5pm, then moving (by train party!) downtown.
Partygoers are instructed to wear dramatic white, because “in many cultures dressing in white is a symbol of hope and transition. Think: white suits, dresses, face-paint, glitter, balloons, banners, be inspired.”
The invitation also states that at sunset there will be a “moment that will light the night.“ One shudders to think what that ”moment” might be.
L.A. Weekly adds:
Right after receiving the victorious news from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg that Occupy Wall Street doesn’t have to move out of Zuccotti Park after all, protest organizers learned they’d been blessed with a Shepard Fairey original.
An East Coast art-blog editor who’s been keeping up with the artistic aspects of OWS (and oh, there are many – in L.A. too!) told WNYC radio of Fairey’s “Occupation Party” invite: “I think it’s really great that it’s an upward looking positive image, as well as it tries to tie together a little bit of the radicalism of the 60′s with today.”
Indeed — Fairey’s apparently still on his strong-black-person-gazing-majestically-into-the-heavens kick. But will his (very kind) contributions to the movement revive the Obama “Hope” curse?

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 3:20ambarber2, if I were your high school english teacher – and of course I don‘t know if you’re in high school or not – I’d say that starting every sentence with the word “so” shows a lack a creative thought. You may normally start every sentence with “Like” (as in “Like, I was thinking that…) but changing to “so” (as in “so, I was thinking that…) isn’t much of an improvement. If I were your teacher I’d suggest that you add more variety to the language you use when you write. Maybe read some books.
And if I were your art teacher I’d wonder how you got the idea that anyone who likes this image wants to call police “pigs.” I agree that art means different things to different people, but the idea that this image projects hatred of police is, as I would says as your art teacher, “unique.” Art says what it says to the individual, I would say to you as your art teacher.
If you can be proud of anything, it‘s that you haven’t been “brainwashed” by a bunch of college professors. But still, as your high school teacher, I do hope you go to college one day.

What I find, in real life — in true interaction with all types of people is that liberals talk a good game about hating corporations and corporate America, but they are quick to snatch up the goods produced by those corporations. They are even quicker to latch onto slogans or themes than are conservatives. I find that conservatives are far more skeptical of corporations and their products than liberals. Conservatives are for more likely to actually purchase locally produced goods and much less likely to strut around preaching to everyone else about why they should do it, too. Conservatives are less likely to watch “Cops” — I know it’s convenient for you to think that they do — and more likely to quietly reach out to the community and to the incarcerated and to the poor and to the troubled.
Conservatives quietly do the right things; liberals loudly don’t.

If he looses the election, …..riots. If Obama enforces Martial law, …. riots When the OWS get out of hand, ….riots .If God forbid something happens to him, …….RIOTS!…………………….! The progressives will make sure it happens. If we get into office I am afraid it will snowball into insanity. Getting America back on her feet will cause riots because these programed robots won‘t get their freebiesand we know that they won’t be happy with cuts. We will have tough times ahead regardless. It won’t be easy. Hopefully the good will out weigh the bad in the longrun.

However, I have to paint the basement floor and, anyway, several postings wouldn’t do the book justice.
Hayek had three doctorates–in law, social sciences, and economics.
In his jacket notes for the first edition, he wrote…. “In a planned system we cannot confine collective action to the tasks on which we agree, but are forced to produce agreement on everything in order that any action can be taken at all.”
Think about that statement!

You look with clouded eyes, and cannot see the repeating of past mistakes. If you have come this far and cannot see the patterns and actions, and cannot correlate them to past blunders, then I cannot help you.
