A Joplin, Missouri, couple survived one of the worst tornadoes in decades by hunkering down inside of a truck. The powerful twister literally tossed their vehicle in the air. Miraculously, William Lynch and his girlfriend escaped the incident with only a few scratches.
FOX & Friends interviewed Lynch about his amazing tale of survival (interview starts around 1:18):

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 2:54pmHad a friend that came home to his seemingly intact mobile home, walk in and find the roof missing. He thought he had been looted because of the nature of the missing things. The next morning a mile up the road he found his intact entertainment system and components in the road in perfect condition. Try that in the city..

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 3:53pmI am so glad the couple was ok, how scary for them, a moment in their lives they won‘t soon forget I’m sure! I just got a phone call from my son who is at Fort Sill, OK going through basic training, and Tuesday night they were out on night maneuvers with laser lights attached to their guns, when it started to pour, and then hail, they were told to get their rain gear on and put their packs back on and “hunker down”, they did so just as a tornado was forming over them, my son said the wind and lightening and debris were incredible, as they all crouched in a field and saw this tornado pass over them. Only a nineteen year old would say, “It was AWESOME!” My heart is still pounding from hearing the story. Yes the white hair is creeping in.

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 2:08pmIf everyone would just take a few minutes of there time to look in the closet for clothing, blankets, pillows etc and donate them to the local charitites that are affiliated with organizations in the affected area’s so they can be distributed. Me and my daughter collected donations ourselves from co-workers and friends and made a trip to Tuscaloosa AL and spent a couple of days with clean-up and delivering food to the families that were affected. It’s our way of giving back….

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 1:31amState of grace or dumb luck, they’re just lucky to be alive. From what I saw of the Joplin tornado, the ONLY smart thing to do was to go subterranean. Obviously, they didn’t, but don‘t expect the same results if you’re in a truck and get swatted by a tornado.
Report Post »YOU WILL DIE.
Too many years of chasing those silly things on the ground, and staying as far away as possible in the air gave me lifelong respect for those disgusting things. After having kids, I drive away from them.

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 1:02amThere are tornado safe rooms you can purchase even for an existing home. When we bought the home we are in now it was the first home I’d lived in without a good basement so I started researching. It’s not too terribly expensive for a small one. Ours was from FamilySafe. They put it in our garage but it can be outside too. lots of sizes, obviously the larger the size the more expensive the shelter. It was worth it. we’ve not had a direct hit but a home 2 doors down had the back half taken off by a tree. The folks that came and installed it were very nice and professional and it did not take long at all.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 11:04pmChevy DOES make one tough truck!! I’ll bet it still runs. GM oughta grab it and use it for advertising, they could say it’s “tornado tough”!!

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 11:02pmThe complete devastation is hard to comprehend for those of us who have never experienced something like this, and hope we never have to.
God bless those who have to go through something like this. We are praying for you all.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 10:36pmI’ve heard that if you stay in a vehicle, make sure the ignition switch is “on” so the air bags can still deploy.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 10:29pmA good friend of mine and his girlfriend were run over by the tornado that hit here in St. Louis on Good Friday. Same basic story – they were on Hwy 70 where it crossed over into the airport and he said it picked up their car and moved them off the side of the road. All the windows blew out and the car was pelted with debris. When that happens and you DON’T actually die, I believe that is the grace of God. For whatever reason, it wasn‘t my friend or his girlfriend’s time to go. For those in Joplin who have lost loved ones, I am praying for you. We don’t know why in these kinds of tragedies some people live and others die. It is God’s will and we just need to hold onto our faith and know that they have simply been called home by their loving Father. I will be sending some supplies and food to Joplin this week. I heard one report state they are still looking for around 1500 people. The death toll could be over a thousand, folks. Please send them prayers and donations if you can.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 9:28pmToday, the radio stations my husband works for put on the air they were taking donations for the people in Joplin. Prime Trucking was donating the semis, 53′ trailers. By 1:00 the first one was full; by 2:00 the second one was full and when he left at 5:00 the third one was two thirds full, and people were still waiting in line to bring food, water, and clothing. And even dog supplies as Joplin has set up a pet shelter trying to match them with their owners A man told Bob his son just got home from Iraq a few days ago and had 2,500.00 and told his day let’s go buy items for the people in Joplin, he spent all of his money.
This was handled through person to person, not politically. A former employee who now lives in Joplin working with his church, and a current employee of Midwest Family Broadcasting whose husband works for Prime Trucking is doing this great necessity. My husband said he was so emotional today he broke down and cried.
This is what the people in the Ozarks are like..we take care of our neighbors. I’m so proud today!

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 11:28pmThank you for sharing this with us. Just shows that “We the People” will have to do what needs to be done to help the survivors of these storms. Waiting on the government is like believing in the tooth fairy! Since I am so far from MO, am sending more money to Salvation Army and will see what else I can do to help them. May God grant them comfort and his grace to get through this.

“Waiting on the government is like believing in the tooth fairy!”
But, the Dear Leader said he was with the Joplin folks all the way from London!
Yeah, Red Cross is good. Just make sure that your donation is designated for the Joplin relief effort. I need to send a check as well. It could have just as easily been me after spending 50 years in that part of the country. As to government aid, I wouldn’t stake my life on a make work program like FEMA.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 9:21pmAmericans, need to look inward to themselves. This will make them apperciate what they have, and realize the gift of helping those less fortunate around them. People Americans acroos this nation have been stricken by many natural disasters, as of late, We need to help each other, as We surely cannot count on the government, or other nations to come to Our aid.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 11:33pmNo basements in Florida .. I believe the water table and type of bedrock (or lack there of ) is the reason … some are making the master closets into safe rooms … I have an open floor plan .. basically no where to go ..one closet that is “interior” but does not have a “sturdy” door .. bi folds.
