At CPAC: Conservative Columnist Cal Thomas Says Rachel Maddow Is ‘Best Argument’ for Contraception

During a CPAC panel discussion on the Obama administration’s controversial contraception mandate, The Heritage Foundation’s Genevieve Wood played a clip of Rachel Maddow saying that “the Republican Party was waging war on contraception.”
Turning to columnist Cal Thomas, Wood asked:
“Cal, let’s talk about this religious–this is serious, we laugh about it, but this is serious in terms of, if they get away with this, what would happen in a second term? If that outrage doesn’t turn to action in November, what are we looking at here?”
To which he pointedly responded:
“I’m really glad, Genevieve, that you played the Rachel Maddow clip. I think that she is the best argument in favor of her parent’s using contraception. I would be all for that! And all of the rest of the crowd at MSNBC, too, for that matter.”
Watch the exchange below as it aired on CSPAN, courtesy of Mediaite:
You may also recall similar comments made back in April 2011, when Keith Olbermann said that Blaze contributor S.E. Cupp should have never been born and that her existence proved the need for Planned Parenthood.

Posted on February 9, 2012 at 9:15pmWell, Rick Santorum has said he would support states banning birth control.
Seriously, how many of you would support a ban of birth control? How many people of any state, how many people in the United States would support that?
Let’s elect a true conservative, one who will get Government the heck out of our lives!!! Except, of course, when it comes to sex in an couple’s bedroom, where the government has the right, according to Santorum, to tell them what they can and cannot do to prevent pregnancy. Let‘s bring Santorum’s religious beliefs into your bedroom. Rick Santorum for President!

You post contained a little intellectual dishonesty. However, I think I was unintentional.
Concerning if the state had the right to ban contraceptives Rick said,
“The state has a right to do that, I have never questioned that the state has a right to do that. It is not a constitutional right, the state has the right to pass whatever statues they have. That is the thing I have said about the activism of the Supreme Court, they are creating rights, and they should be left up to the people to decide,”
But specifically concerning banning contraceptives he said,
“You shouldn’t create constitutional rights when states do dumb things. Let the people decide if the states are doing dumb things get rid of the legislature and replace them as opposed to creating constitutional laws that have consequences that were before them.”
He did agree the states had the right to, granted a majority vote in that state, but followed it up refernecing that idea as “dumb.”
Hope I could clear it up for you.

The CPAC convention should be about fighting and winning the war of ideas, not ridiculous personal attacks. And at the risk of sounding “holier than thou”, all the people with the “Good Job” comments should remember that we are suppose to be the good guys, not just the other guys.
Oh crap, I just defended Rachael Maddow… I am going to go take a shower now.

Posted on February 9, 2012 at 10:47pm@JZS – As POTUS his support of a state ban is really nothing more than a personal opinion.
For a ban on birth control to be in place in a given state, the majority of the people, their elected officials AND likely the Supreme Court would all have to approve the measure before it went into effect.
Once it was in effect, the President can not squash standing state laws on his own, he can work with Congress to amend the Constitution, but that whole ‘enumerated powers’ tenth amendment precludes him from sticking his big bazoo in state affairs.

I know you’re a lib and idealistically opposed to our candidates, and that fine, but lately you have been insinuating that our candidates are not suited for the job based on some of their MANY flaws. I doubt I am the only one that feels this way but I feel like I’m on the episode of South Park where the kids have to vote for a new school mascot. If you haven’t seen it, there choices are between a giant douche and a turd sandwich. The moral of the story is most the time you’re picking the lesser to the two evils.
Was Bush the greatest president ever? No. Do I believe he was head and shoulders over Gore or Kerry? Yes. Do I believe whoever gets the nomination will be a better choice that Obama? Yes.
As it stands right now, I believe Santorum is the best choice of the group, doubt he gets it, but that’s my opinion. I’m leaning towards writing in Hank Williams Sr. but haven’t decided for sure.

Watch this video about FDR… You know I hate to toot my own harm but I was able to figure out on my own about 10 years ago that FDR was the number 1 culprit in the destruction of our Consitution and especially the attack upon Christianity in America.. That‘s because you don’t realize that every red blooded American worth his salt that was in the Democrat party which rammed desegregation down our throats back in the 60s left and joined the Republican party.. It’s really not that complicated. Back then desegregation was a big issue and many didn’t support it.. As a matter of fact most didn’t. Much like immigration today.. Many don’t support it but within 20 years the Jewish media will have spewed so much propaganda through their Media that so called Patriots will be begging all 3rd world immigrants to come to America and live with me!!! They will probably be travelling to pick them up after they put the spell on everyone. lol
My point is back then it was ok to not appreicate and not approve of desegregation because it was an evil. Today if you say that it is evil then you are a racist. Think about it.
Furthermore remember when most Republicans wouldn’t accept MLK as a National holiday and rightfully so.. Today if you dissaprove of MLK holiday then you are a racist even though he was a whoremonger and a commie.

Sarcasm seems to be a foreign concept to liberals.
“Not only is sarcasm not the lowest form of wit, but scientific proof has emerged in the past few years that understanding sarcasm requires social intelligence lacking in people who’ve suffered damage to a section of the right brain known as the parahippocampal gyrus. Using videotaped exchanges and MRIs of the brain, Katherine P. Rankin, a neuropsychologist and assistant professor in the Memory and Aging Center at the University of California, San Francisco, conducted an Awareness of Social Inference Test to measure the brain reactions of people responding to words that are straightforward on paper but delivered sarcastically. She found that people suffering from a progressive brain disease known as semantic dementia failed to perceive sarcasm.”

Posted on February 9, 2012 at 7:15pmThis birth control issue was brought up on purpose. It will be used as: “Republicans are against contraception”.
I believe Obama gives the green light to the people in the background. They scheme and deceive the citizen on a daily basis. Making new laws and regulations.
Running THIS campaign was started the day Obama entered the White House in 2009. Every decision they have made over the last 3 years was weighed and measured on how it can also be used for his re-election.
Obama cannot do this by himself. I don’t think he is smart enough. He wants power and his minions make sure he gets it. Obama does not love this beautiful country.
Remember when Romney was asked about state controlled contraception. That was done on purpose to bring this issue into the campaign. Now with the Catholic Church fighting against the over-reach of government into religious issues, Republicans are coming out to stand with them.
The Democrats and Obama will bring a message like: “Republicans are against birth control”. That message will motivate mainly young people. So they hope anyways. Obama has lost their enthusiasm and will use this as a tool to get it back.. The young want to get all the free contraception devices they can get. Sex with no responsibility is very appealing to the young and not only the young.
Now it is not about RELIGIOUS FREEDOM anymore, but will be about; ‘Republicans are refusing birth control.” Just wait and see.

Report Post »I meant that in a sarcastic response to the sarcasm of the speaker. And you are right that this debate is primarily about where the government’s power to regulate workplace relations begins and ends–I simply disagree with you both on historical precedent as well as normative grounds, which I find (and undoubtedly you disagree) that the government is fully within its rights to prohibit employers from declining to pay their share of their employee’s contractually obligated healthcare insurance benefit.
@KOMPONIST-ZAH
Forcing them to pay for free bacon for their employees is not analogous to this law–this law doesn‘t force them to pay for anyone’s birth control or abortificants. It forces them to pay for the healthcare plan their employee chooses, which they are legally, and contractually obligated, to pay for anyway. Using your analogy, it would be like the government requiring them to pay the wages of their employees, even those ones who they knew might/would use their wages to buy bacon, anyway, and refusing them the option to not pay their employees wages because they find what they might buy with them objectionable.

Posted on February 9, 2012 at 8:33pmHey MOD,
For Maddow you say……”I don’t agree with everything she says, but she seems nice
Then after the “Anti-thesis” to Hannity comment you say…..“Vehemently disagree with the person”
Was the word Vehemently meant for Hannity only?
If so, your needle swings way to the left on the Moderation gauge.
If it was meant for both of them, well then that does not make sense because the definition of the word “vehemently” does not really jibe with the spirit of your second sentence.

Posted on February 9, 2012 at 10:39pmIf a man and woman are married, or in a relantionship, then both should have a say. You see, my point was that a relationship between a man and women could result in a pregnancy. With a homosexual relationship then the possibility is zero.
My point was that homosexuals should stay out of this debate because it does not concern them. They can’t procreate amongst themselves.

What else do you suppose that he did? Why, he started his very own apartheid supporting fiefdom….Rhodesia. The left truly hated Rhodesia and how successful it was and how it was the bread basket of Africa. Now look at it. The UN has to fly in food to keep only some of their residents from starving.
