At Least 21 Treated For Burns After Attempting ‘Fire Walking’ at Tony Robbins Event

(The Blaze/AP) — Fire officials in California say at least 21 people were treated for burns after attendees of an event for motivational speaker Tony Robbins tried to walk on hot coals.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that at least three people went to a hospital and most suffered second- or third-degree burns.

Robbins was hosting a 4-day gathering called “Unleash the Power Within” at the San Jose Convention Center. Witnesses say on Thursday, a crowd went to a park where 12 lanes of hot coals were on the grass.

Robbins’ website promotes “The Firewalk Experience” in which people walk on super-heated coals.

Witness Jonathan Correll says he heard “screams of agony.” He explained it was hard to watch as one young woman appeared to be in so much pain.

“I heard wails of pain, screams of agony,” he said. “It was horrific.”

Correll continued: “It was people seriously hurting, like they were being tortured… First one person, then a couple minutes later another one, and there was just a line of people walking on that fire. It was just bizarre, man.”

Henry Guasch, 19, said that after walking across the hot coals while chanting his mantra, “cool moss,” he felt powerful.

“Overcoming something like that, it’s a breakthrough,” he said, explaining that he slowed his pace at one point and got a minor burn.

Another fire walker, Andrew Brenner said the keys to making it across the coals without getting burned are faith and deep concentration.

“I did it before, didn’t get into the right state and got burned,” said Brenner. “I knew I wasn’t at my peak state. I didn’t take it as serious.”

Fire Capt. Reggie Williams says organizers had an open fire permit and emergency personnel were on standby.

“We discourage people from walking over hot coals,” Williams said.

Myth Busters did an episode on this.
They found that you had to let the coals burn down a bit to get a nice layer of ash on top, which acts as an insulator. When they walked at a slow even pace they had no problem, when one tried to go fast, he got burned.

Sounds like the people running it didn’t let it burn long enough before the people walked on it. It is not mind over matter, it is just science.

      Hi Monk……

You want the really egregious thing about this ????

All those people that got burned, actually paid Tony Robbins money, to hospitalize themselves. And then they blamed themselves for not being worthy.

People that pay to go to these kinds of things… Self-help crap are addicted to them and they don’t usually find what they want they find small amounts of soul healing but never what they expected so they continue to go to them looking for that all embracing final self-help program. I have a friend that has attended so many of these and I have never seen a change in him other than thousands of dollars vanishing into the promoters pockets. But he continues to take these programs and feels happy for a few months. He always feels better and healed but then again he continues to go to them so is he really getting any cure I mean real think on that.

Now she’s spreading the “new age” way of life for $90.00 a pop. She can’t explain, how the rest of us took 6 years of school to get our Master’s, and she only 6 weeks. ” But it’s the same degree”. That’s exactly what it is. Group behavior can be very dangerous. Easy to lose your self in the guiding flow of the masses. Kind of sad really, but we’re all prone to this once we think we are a part of something grander than ourselves.

Matthew 6‘Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 ‘So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 3But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.*

You don’t need Robbins, a fistful of dollars, red hot coals, or feet afaire to praise Jesus in your private setting. Sheeple need to stop trusting all these imposters.

5 ‘And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 6But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.*

Tommy, Robbins isn’t even trying to promote Christianity. But it is a type of “religion” of sorts. It’s one in which people rely upon themselves and themselves alone–also known as “humanism.“ ”Humanism” merely comes under various names and guises, but it’s basically and totally “self-reliance.” Essentially they are their own gods, masters, saviors, etc. Oldest line in the Book: “I can do this myself.” And yes, just like cults, it has its goats!

hey just peachy, I know he’s not trying to support Christianity, why do you have to label it? Humanism? Where did you pull that from? in other words, you believe HUMANS, the same lowly life form who eat eachother in the name of profit to expell a religion which would, what… serve all in the name of what, conformism?? Talk to me junior. Talk to me about the corporate states of america which produces nothing now but pain now, can you say “batman”? Can you say “I lost my home?”….“my job”, my future? My family? I don’t want to be dependant on anyone, but I have found myself dependant on the corporate states of america. Of which, or whom, i have had to wake up at 0500 every morning to support. Can you honestly say “Thanks corporate america for all you’ve done “? Really? if you can then you’re part of the problem, brainwashed completely, or just rich off of the rest of us.

Jesus said, in so many words, to go into your private room to pray, not to be a hypocrit and shout
from the pulpit displaying your supposed powers. This is an example of brainwashed sheeple following some human brainwasher. How stupid, just stupid. Read the New Testament. Pry in private and from your heart, you don’t need some other human to validate your sincere relationship with Jesus.

      @B4B

I asked a fire-walker what the trick was. He said to wet the feet then let get a coating of grey, already burned, coal dust to coat the feet. Then walk very fast. The coating prevents the hot coals from touching the flesh before you are able to take the next step.

Sometimes the grey dust falls off….
