Vid: Over 70 Killed in Violent Celebration Following Egyptian Soccer Match

Violence After Egyptian Soccer Match Leaves 40 Dead

(AP) — At least 40* Egyptians were killed Wednesday in violence following a soccer match in Port Said, when fans flooded the field seconds after a match against a rival team was over, Egypt’s Health ministry said.

It was one of the worst incidents of sports violence in Egypt in decades.

A security official and a medic said fans of the home team, Al-Masry, swarmed the field after a rare 3-1 win against Al-Ahly, Egypt’s top team. They threw stones, fireworks, and bottles at the fans and injured some players.

A medic at a morgue in Port Said, a city on the Mediterranean coast, said some of the dead were security officers. He was speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.

The causes of the deaths were not immediately known.

The ministry’s statement about 40 dead was carried on state TV.

The players were later taken to the locker room for protection, Sayed Hamdi, a player told state TV.

Soon after the violence, a soccer game in the Cairo Stadium between the Al-Ismailiya and Zamalek teams was called off in mourning for the violence in Port Said.

State TV showed video of sections of the Cairo stadium on fire. The announcer said angry fans of the Zamalek protested the cancellation and set some sections of the stadium on fire.

*UPDATE 3 p.m.:

CNN is now reporting that 73 have died, hundreds injured following the riot after the soccer game.

“It’s kind of a security vacuum in the football stadium. … It’s not unheard of to have organized violence between football clubs, but something on this scale has never been seen before,” said James Montague, a CNN contributor .

AP reports that State TV cited the Health Ministry and says 1,000 other people were injured in Wednesday’s melee.

It‘s a good thing that the event wasn’t in a Christian country or the violence might have REALLY gotten out of hand. Those Muslims REALLY know how to show restraint. They should all be so proud!

Here’s an Idea. Let’s leave the Middle East and let them ALL kill each other! Help to DEFEND, not promote OFFENSE. Let’s support Israel thru trading resources and strengthen OUR superiority of national defense. Let’s take care of OUR domestic problems and get OUR house inorder to oust the treasonists!

The disgusting comments that I have seen regarding this story is appalling. I am sure most of you call yourself Christians. These comments are repulsive. I am sure a lot of innocent people got caught up in this and died. My nephew could have been there, an innocent 12 year old who lives in Cairo. Shameful comments like these make the Blaze community look like the bunch of hateful ignorant hicks everyone says you are. I flock here….if birds of a feather flock together…then go find a different place to flock. Rejoicing at deaths of innocents…really? Now if this was a battle, or religious riot…OK fine chuckle it up…As a woman, I believe most practitioners of Islam are hateful bigoted monsters, but laughing at deaths at a sporting event? Unworthy of Christ, may God have mercy on us and Egypt.

Are you that stupid? This happens all the time and the people expect there to be a few deaths. It’s what they do and they go there willingly. Why do you want to stop them from having some fun?

Thats how Muslims celebrate,……..they kill people!

I understand your concern Redhead. I myself become too coarse sometimes. Maybe because this stuff is so commonplace anymore and a hardening of the heart toward Muslims. A little introspection is a good thing.

You let a 12 year old live in a place like that? Wow. Those people are so much like animals that they can’t even play a game without killing a few dozen people. How could any sane person even call that a country any more. It’s just chaos waiting to spread as soon as they figure out how to organize.

Oh, wait, these were soccer fans, rioting again, in the midst of riots, over some other ridiculous riotous riots that have lasted for a riotously ridiculous long time. Stoning each other in the process. I say pass out the sling shots and stock up on carbon credits.

Good Lord…now the number of dead has been moved up from 40 to 70….Pretty soon they will blame the ‘Jews’. A group of Israeli parachuters dropped down in the middle of the field and opened up with machine guns. It had to be this…because the religion of peace would not allow such a thing.

Sounds like we have 73 less Sand-Camels (Muslims)… Sounds like a good start. Now give them some more time, and they will keep killing themselves off…

But in truth, I wish they would just become civilized people, and decide to throw away their religion that teaches and endorses violence. The world would be MUCH better off with Islam and it sheeple..
