‘At Least the Democrats Believe in Evolution’: Chris Matthews Defends Obama’s Gay Marriage Comments

Ever since Vice President Joe Biden made his statements endorsing gay marriage, President Obama’s incoherence on the subject has been slowly mounting. And while more cynical observers might look at this and suggest that the President is laying the groundwork for a publicly contrived “change of heart” that will demonstrate his true beliefs once the election is over, some people have apparently bought his current defense hook, line and sinker.

I refer, of course, to Chris Matthews. In a segment on his show today, Matthews, who is famous for crediting President Obama with sending a proverbial thrill up his leg, appeared to accept the President’s line that his thinking is “evolving” on the issue as a genuine statement. And, not being able to resist a dig at Republicans, Matthews quipped, “At least the Democrats believe in evolution. Some Republicans don‘t believe in evolution and don’t evolve themselves.”

Watch the full segment and the isolated clip, courtesy of Hot Air, below:

Leaving aside the issue of whether the President’s “evolution” on this issue is genuine, or simply an “about-face,” let‘s note an obvious problem with Matthews’ joke: The President might believe in the theory of evolution, but he may to have real problems with the guy who came up with it. Remember when he called the Ryan Plan “Thinly veiled Social Darwinism,” for instance? This would seem to suggest that, in actuality, it is Republicans who are becoming the party of evolution.

I challenge Chris Matthews to put down the evolution book and pick up one on physiology. It may benefit pro-gay advocates like him, Joe Biden, and the President to understand the physiological function of the sexual organs and how they “evolved” to reproduce. In other words, even “evolution” would have deemed man-woman relationships over same-sex relationships. Simply put, men cannot impregnate men via their partner’s excretory system and women have no ability to impregnate anyone.

@Wilma: that’s because natural selection and social Darwinism are not the same thing.

why not? in both cases the best are going on and the others are going behind. capitialism and our priginal govt system is the closest thing to natural selection as you can get. the dems and matthews want to have us believe that ‘fair’ is the successful supporting the failed, and it dosent work. all it does is promote MORE failure. We see this in crony capitialism aka the same stuff that matthews and obama wants to promote. they want class warfare in a society without the class system. the only reason for that is to garner power, because there has NEVER been a case where the stuff they want ever created success or even worked at all. all it does is collapse countries and create rulers and the ruled. I think wilma is spot on

He’s really using evolution to defend gay marriage? It seems too simple to point out the screaming contradiction: Ain’t no “evolving” gonna happen in a gay marriage anyways. Now that I think about it, maybe we should start supporting gay marriage; it just might be a good way to “thin the herd.”

Humans don’t evolve, we are created in the image of God. Humans who don’t grow into true spirit, are devolving. There is no static existence on this earth. We are constantly and perpetually forced to build upon our identities and images as well as our intelligence and moral convictions. Everything is a “slippery slope”, and the only secure footing is found in upright position and condition. Righteousness will not be a reality for a nation that sanctions the sacrifice of the most vulnerable. How can systematic murder be an advance in our condition? de-evolution….********

Clearly Obama’s laughable “evolving” position on homosexual marriage has become a liability (thanks to Plugs Biden and his clown act) and in good enemedia style Chrissie Tingles and Thrills has to cover to do some damage control.
Chrissie‘s position makes no sense and is utterly out of context to Obama’s shameless attempt to pander to conservative democrat voters until after the election but smear is the object for Chrissie..not sense.

Belief or disbelief in evolution is not the sole realm of either political party. It has more to do with understanding (or misunderstanding) scientific theory than with political affiliation; those who refuse to learn how science operates and explains our world are found in both parties.
