Atheist Billboards Call Jesus a ‘Useless Savior,‘ Bash a ’Sadistic God’ & Mormon ‘Bigotry’

American Atheists (AA), a prominent secular group, is unleashing a contentious billboard campaign seemingly aimed at bashing presidential candidates’ — and the general populations’ religious beliefs. While attempting to boost its own standing, AA is using the two billboard as an opportunity to lambaste Christianity. CNN has more about the atheist-led campaign:
A prominent atheist group is using next month‘s Democratic National Convention to take aim at the presidential candidates’ religion, planning to put up billboards targeting Mormonism and Christianity in Charlotte, North Carolina, during the week of the convention there.
“Our political system is rife with religion and it depends too much on religion and not enough on substance,” said David Silverman, president of American Atheists, sponsor of the ads.
“Religion is silly and religion has components that are inherently divisive. … There is no place for any of that in the political system,” he said.
The first billboard comes with the header “Christianity.“ It goes on to call God ”sadistic“ and to dub Jesus Christ a ”useless” savior. The full text reads, “Sadistic God; Useless Savior, 30,000+ Version of ‘Truth.’ Promotes Hate, Calls it ‘Love.’” Clearly, believers are going to take issue with these characterizations.
Interestingly, AA decided to put out a separate billboard targeting Mormonism, presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s faith. The text, “God Is a Space Alien, Baptizes Dead People, Big Money, Big Bigotry” is present on the billboard.
It also shows a man wearing white underwear, an apparent reference to special undergarments that are worn by adherents:
Both of the billboards feature the line, ”Atheism: Simply Reasonable.” Originally, the atheist group wanted to place the messages in Tampa, Florida, to coincide with the Republican National Convention, but they were unable to find companies willing to rent space for them.
This isn’t the first time the group has taken this avenue of spreading its non-belief, as AA has become known for launching similar billboards across the nation. In the past they’ve reached out to Jews and Muslims and issued a controversial slave billboard, to name just two examples.

How far does the universe extend? What is beyond if it has a boundary? What keeps the sun from burning out quickly? There has to be a master mind behind it all; supreme being, creator, God, fill in the blank.

Posted on August 13, 2012 at 2:24pmAtheism is the positive affirmation and absolute negation that there is no God anywhere in the universe. The atheist argument self-destructs before it even begins. Unless the atheist has complete knowledge of the entire universe, it is impossible to prove that there is no God. A human being can not make an absolute negation based on the fact that no human being(s) have ever been to the utmost ends or reaches of the universe, and that it is impossible to see God, a spirit being.
On the other hand, when a theist makes the claim that there is a God, it is a claim based on faith and established with logic. If the atheist states that his/her belief is based on the fact that they have never seen God, or that God has simply not revealed enough of Himself for them to believe in Him, they are, in actuality, an agnostic! An agnostic bases their belief on the fact that they just don’t know. To not know is to refrain from making an affirmation regarding the existence of God.
For the most part, those today who claim to be atheists are either, in the truest sense, agnostics, or quite simply, bitter unbelievers who despise any rule, guideline, or judgement regarding how they should live their lives.
I find it interesting that the strongest surge of atheism in my lifetime has emerged under the governance of a far-left liberal administration, one that is historically founded on controlling the masses.
Just an observance.

How true, its interesting looking at his statement at the end…
“Religion is silly and religion has components that are inherently divisive. … There is no place for any of that in the political system,” he said.
Looking at the godless governments of Marxism, Communism, Socialism, are they not as divisive to the core as he claims of Christianity? Now a politcal system that madates the forced following or dominance of one faith or version of the faith is wrong, but the freedom to worship or even not to do so is not harmful in a political system, so long as the government does not seek to establish a state religion…thus the clause in the Constitution.

Common law liability recognizes incremental degrees of responsibility (7 years, 14 years and 21 years). Sadly there are countless stories where children who want to investigate other religions are demonized by their family and sometimes even kicked out of the house. Unfortunately a religious parent typically has a difficult time allowing their children to be open minded and look at what else is out there (other religions, no religion) for fear that the child may not wind up believing as they do.

Atheism/Agnosticism Plus Compassion Equals Humanism
Karen Armstrong, a religious thinker I can admire and support, has begun a project called the “Charter for Compassion.” The aim of the project, as far as I can tell while observing it in its initial stages, is to promote the golden rule. The golden rule appears in every religion, as Armstrong points out. But if I might summarize it in my own purely secular and Humanistic language, its message is that the very first thing we must do in order to be good people is learn to look inside ourselves, understand what we love and hate, and use this information when deciding how to treat others. The golden rule shows up in every religion simply because religion has thus far played a prominent role in just about every human society. But you can have a society that lacks Krishna, Jesus or Buddha and it will be fine. Eliminate multiple prayer sessions per day, gift-giving around the winter solstice, or candle-lighting every Friday night, and things will work themselves out.
Meanwhile, we non-religious people would do well to acknowledge that while we are at no moral disadvantage when it comes to following the golden rule, by leaving congregations behind we can miss out on mutual support networks that inspire and nurture compassion. That’s why my in my Humanist community at Ha

Posted on August 14, 2012 at 3:26pmGood points. I’m a scientist. ASKEGG is incorrect. The very first rule of science is that you cannot prove a negative. Personal beliefs may be based on science, but science is incapable of proving the non-existence of anything, including God. All life is scientifically inexplicable. LIfe, energetically, is an uphill gradient. Energy, without intervention, always flows downhill, thus making the chances of a random event that resulted in complex biological diversity infinitesimally small. Factually, the only evidence for traditional evolution is morphology-one organism shares characteristics of another, yet it is taught as scientific fact, while disparaging intelligent design, whether deity or alien. Atheists always insist that they are being harmed by exposure to the beliefs of others and seek governmental suppression as recompense, claiming the Constitution’s wording of “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” interprets to a prohibition against the mere mention of religion, while freedom of speech applies only to them. I despise AA’s beliefs but I would fight to the death for their right to speak out. The fact that they would fight to deny believers that same right speaks volumes of the right of their cause. Activist atheism is quasi liberal-ie-guns. If a conservative doesn’t like guns, they don’t buy one. If a liberal doesn’t like guns, they want to confiscate all guns. Atheists use the same appro

Posted on August 14, 2012 at 3:46pmActually, I would never allow a bigot to dictate my actions. Christians should fight for their rights, but we cannot take the tactic of the atheist because that method is unacceptable to a follower of Christ. In the face of mockery, hatred, accusations of hate speech, low IQ, etc, it is our responsibility to turn the other cheek. We SHOULD respond to hatred; but with positive affirmation of God’s love. Our faith should be manifest in service to all, including those who do not share our beliefs. Mockery, condemnation and hate are not Christian ideals, they are the realm of those who claim that the word Christian means naked hatred. AA’s actions are despicable. I choose to follow Christ’s methods and I do not fear that these pathetically hateful people could EVER thwart the will of God. His ways are not man’s ways. It is right to defend our constitutional right to believe as we do, but the hearts of God’s children will not beat in harmony with the tactics of Satan. We should render unsolicited acts of kindness and service in accordance with our beliefs. We should conform our actions such that we stand as witnesses of Him at all times, in all things, and in all places. I too feel anger at these unwarranted attacks, but to respond in kind is the path of the atheist-not Christians.

Posted on August 14, 2012 at 11:14amAll children arrive with an innate ability to respect their parents especially since the parents have physical power over them. The parents respond with love and discipline to empower their children to cope with a normal life. Consequently, there exists some fear over their prowess. Love to come before fear is not possible for maturity in Christ – try as one may, they will not. Even when the Saul was knocked off his high horse, he felt fear when he hit the ground. He was told to go see a Gentile ( us ) he obeyed ( disciplined ) was healed ( awakened ) found love and was imbued with knowledge of Christ. The same problem of respect, and fear both caused major problems with the Israelites in the wilderness of Sin. The Tribes of Israel saw Miracles beyond comprehension and still tempted God by saying that He was unable to provide for them. They , of course were spiritually blind , except for a few ( probably 10% ) . They rebelled ( like you ) , but, unlike you, they were punished by not being able to see their promise ( except for the newborn and a few others ) . Even Moses was whipped ( with a feather ) . But, I would wager you don‘t know what I’m taking about with Moses either. First, fear ( respect ) , then comes love. Israel got what they asked God for, but God didn’t get what he wanted except 10 % . I’ve even seen miracles and still fill failure – the main difference is , we, have a Mighty High Priest officiating for us that believe in Him – Good L

Not sure if you’re being serious here or just trying to be ironic. The Blaze has had several stories about atheist billboards and ads being blocked or torn down. Meanwhile, I pass by several billboards each day saying that non-believers will burn in Hell for all eternity. I suppose you might argue they aren’t anti-atheist, but rather anti-anyone-who-doesn’t-belong-to-our-church… but it’s not much of a difference.
Also, running a Google search for “anti-atheist billboard” reveals quite a number of billboards specifically targeting atheists.
