Atheist Lobbyists Launch Massive Effort to Organize for Political Power in All 50 States

The Secular Coalition for America (SCA), a national group representing atheists and secularists, is continuing its plans to politically organize on a massive scale. Back in March, The Blaze reported about the group’s intensive lobbying of Congress. Now, the SCA has announced a schedule that will lead to the creation of state chapters throughout the United States.

This announcement, which will bolster atheists’ power across the nation, comes just weeks after the lobbying group announced the hiring of Edwina Rogers, a prominent Republican strategist, as the group’s executive director. According to a press release announcing the 501(c)(4)’s growth, new chapters will be launching in 48 states and in Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico by the end of 2012. There are already chapters in Arizona and Alabama.

In June, the SCA claims that it will begin holding organizing calls for individual states. These trainings, which will continue through August, will provide the framework needed to assist chapters in their formation. This preparatory period will also include assistance with web sites and educational materials, as well as other support services.

The purpose of the organizational model is to very clearly magnify the SCA’s impact so that non-believers can continue their campaign for ideological dominance and equality — specifically at the state level.

(Related: Surprise! Atheist Lobbying Group Hires Prominent Republican Strategist to Serve as Executive Director)

“Some of the most egregious violations of church state separation are being promoted and passed at the state level, and we absolutely must act to stop it,” Rogers proclaimed. “There are 40 million Americans who don’t identify with any religion, but our political influence has been limited because we have not been organized. This year, that changes.”

Secular Coalition for America Launches State Organizational Plan

The SCA, according to its statement, has traditionally focused upon federal efforts throughout its 10-year history. But this new effort — to bring efforts into effect at the state-level — represents a major shift in strategy. Here is the schedule the group presents in terms of how it will reach out to U.S. states:

  • Phase 1 (June  1 – June 22) – Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia
  • Phase 2 (June 25 – July 13) – Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Montana, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas
  • Phase 3 (July 16 – August 3) – Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Washington
  • Phase 4 (August 6 – August 17) -  Alaska, Delaware, District of Columbia, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin
  • Phase 5 (August 20 – August 31) – Indiana, Nebraska, New Hampshire,  Puerto Rico, West Virginia, Wyoming

The SCA will use this opportunity to stop legislation that it sees as reprehensible. This will likely include bills that allegedly blur the lines between church and state. Additionally, atheists will use the opportunity to train and work with local and state officials before they make their way to Congress and other federal posts — yet another method that helps put secularists’ issues to the forefront.

“The Secular Coalition for America holds that freedom of conscience, including religious freedom, is a fundamental American value as evidenced by the fact that this is the first freedom protected in the Bill of Rights. Freedom of conscience is best guaranteed by protecting and strengthening the secular character of our government. Religious tolerance, a necessary product of this freedom, must be extended to people of all religions and to those without religious beliefs.

The Secular Coalition for America is committed to promoting reason and science as the most reliable methods for understanding the universe and improving the human condition. Informed by experience and inspired by compassion, we encourage the pursuit of knowledge, meaning, and responsible ethical codes without reference to supernatural forces. We affirm the secular form of government as a necessary condition for the interdependent rights of religious freedom and religious dissent. We come together as national freethought organizations to cooperate in areas of mutual interest and to support each other in our efforts to uphold separation between government and religion for the benefit of all within the nontheistic community. As resources allow, we will actively cooperate in projects that support our position, with priority given to political action initiatives and public relations opportunities.”

Taken directly from there site. Seems to me they are defenders of freedom.

Funny, “freedom of conscience”? In the First Amendment? That’s odd, I don’t see that in my copy of the Constitution. I see “freedom of religion”. Yep, it’s right there, in the First Amendment. Make no mistake, atheism is a religion, so by all means, I support their right to practice their religion. But the goal of these people is to REMOVE all other religion from the national conscience and THAT is against what this country was founded on. They want everyone to denounce their faith and accept that everything is as “scientists” tell us it is. Throughout history, “science” hasn’t always been the best route to take, and, fortunately, there have been people of faith to keep “science” in check, otherwise we would have destroyed ourselves long, long ago. Unfortunately, today we seek to push God further and further away, and I fear that all too soon, it will prove to be our undoing.

So, all I’m hearing from the SCA is that they are going to go nation wide with soulless bigotry. They hate religion so much that they have unknowingly created their own. They still think there is a separation of church and state, but they fail to show me where it resides in the constitution. Traditional American Religion is under attack….time to go back to church and re-establish a footing.

Not a single example. You can make up all the lies you want. But you cannot point to a single fact. If you could, you would post a link to a website.

I think everyone has a right to believe what they want to, or to not believe, as the case may be.

Some groups find religious symbols offensive and want them removed, and that’s were the problem lies.

At what point does removing religious symbols from public places become erasing our history?

Do we include trees, zodiacs, angels, cherubs, etc? At what point do we live under the ‘theocracy’ of atheism?

I think the key is respect. I try hard not be offensive, but mostly I try not to be offended. I see too many people that are easily offended by seemingly trivial matters.

I have no problem with someone questioning God and seeing if there is another explanation other than the supernatural.

For example, it would is foolish to say that people are homosexual simply because the ‘devil made them do it’. If there is a gene responsible, that in no way affects my religious beliefs.

I would love to know how the universe was created, it in no way affects my belief in God.

We have reason and intellect for a purpose, to figure things out. There are no boundaries on what is acceptable to study, nothing is off limits.

You believe what you want, all that I ask is the same privilege. Certainly a reasonable man would agree with that.

“Then explain why you atheists sue to try to eradicate religious symbols from being displayed on government property.”

You mean removing unconstitutional endorsements of religion from government land? Probably because they’ve been ruled unconstitutional. Just a hunch.

Come on man. I worship Christ, but I’m also not about to throw out THAT old strawman. Learn about what place the Supreme Court has in deciding constitutionality before you go throwing stones.

“I don’t even complain about Jewish symbols being displayed on government property while you atheists do.”

Just curious, what Jewish symbols are displayed on government property? Only thing that comes to mind are menorahs during the winter months; but that’s constitutionally fine as long as other faiths can share their views as well. Hence why manger scenes are ok too, as long as there’s also space for other views if they want to contribute.

Government is not a place to hold your church gathering. That is what your church is for. Government is supposed to be based on objective laws not subjective laws that bend to the whims of religious zealots. Laws that protect and uphold individual rights to his/her own life to do with it as he/she chooses.

It’s funny how people forget their history about the dark ages. Oh, yeah! Christianity is a religion of LOVE! I wonder how many human lives have been slaughtered in the name of God or Allah?! You can try, but you can’t hide a contradiction when you see it.

Militant atheism is a foe of religion worldwide. Militant atheists are determined to remove the world of any vestige of religion and God. To do so, some atheistic organizations are adopting an evangelical approach meant to proselytize and convert because their agenda is so wholly rejected otherwise. These organizations are well funded and well organized but poorly thought out. Though they hide their true evil intents behind a veneer of seemingly honorable aims, such as defending human rights, their final intentions are far from honorable and innocuous.

Will any atheist answer me this? I have asked several times but no one seems to reply. If our Founding Fathers original intentions were to keep religion and state separate and it‘s unconstitutional to have anything mentioning a religion on public lands then why isn’t anyone asking for the Liberty Bell to be taken down? It is inscribed after all with a Bible verse, “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the inhabitants thereof” (Leviticus 25:10). It was used publicly back then and is on public grounds now. So why isn’t the Liberty Bell moved to private lands?

Trying to take a country that was clearly founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and morals and drive all vestiges of religion or G-d from the public square/view is narrow-minded and ignorant to say the least. Just because you can‘t touch something doesn’t mean it isn’t real. No one is saying Atheists “have” to believe, but let those who do believe enjoy their beliefs without denigrating or insulting them. Atheists, please re-read the 1st Amendment. It is intended(if you’d care to read the Federalist Papers) to prevent a “Theocracy” in this country. It does not prohibit the religious expression thereof. I also do not see anything that says anything of a “religious” nature cannot be in a public square if the public in question wants it there.

He is transforming from a goofy sobbing rodeo clown to a dangerous Jim Jones style religious end times nutter. Maybe he’s trying to force Obama into arresting him? Whatever his game is, he’s up to no good. Beck’s bogus “Restor Love” Amway style rally this summer is tied into this as well. BTW, Beck promised us riots and blood in the streets this summer. @ Pontiac
As we say in Texas, you couldn’t pour water out of a boot with instructions
      printed on the heel.
Communists leaders were motivated by a strong desire to impose an ideological package over the whole world. The package included the eradication of Religion, defined by arch-atheist, Karl Marx, as “The opium of the people.” According to Marx, religion helped keep the masses passive before the abuse of the wealthy and powerful, and the only way to free them from the stupor, God and religion had to be eradicated. Lenin embraced Marx’s views and so did Stalin up to the Second World war. The enforcement of Atheism was a “critical” requirement for Communism’s success, and thus it had to be implemented at all costs. This meant oppressive measures, such as brainwashing in state schools, the closing of houses of worship and arresting countless religious leaders.
Kinda sounds familiar to what you and your ilk are doing today.

How many people were killed in the name of communism, millions.
How many people were killed in the name of atheism, zero.

You cannot fault atheism for your own failings. No student is being told there is no god in school by government, no houses of worship are being closed by government, no religious leaders are being arrested by government for being too religious. No, people are finally waking up, growing tired of organized religion, and preachers are being arrested for tax evasion and child molestation. You simply can no longer get away with abusing the law and using government as a propaganda tool for your bronze age mythology. Cry me a river if you can no longer use government force to condition people into being a christian zombie.

I am an Atheist but I don’t get all butt-hurt over crosses, Christmas, or any thing religious that doesn’t cause physical harm to someone! In fact my family is religious and I respectively celebrate Christmas with them. I do however want to state my issues with Atheists attacking the whole separation of church and state thing by explaining the definition of religion and how Atheism Is in fact a Religion! Religion is defined as an organized group with a belief in a god or entity. pretty obvious. Atheism is defined as an organized group with a belief that there is no god! The keyword here is ‘belief’. So the fact that Atheism is a belief ( and it is, because there is no absolute proof there is or isn’t a god) in itself categorizes it as a religion. This being known, I can’t figure out why no one is doing the same to keep atheism separate from state. Also, I would like to point out that they have major issues with crosses or religious symbols on public land. So why isn’t anyone putting up giant crosses or statues on privately owned land? I myself would applaud something like that!

Technically your statement is false. There is only proof with evidence. If there is no evidence then there is nothing. Just because you say you cannot not prove it that it makes it proof that it exists. That logic is a fallacy. Proof requires only evidence. Only evidence can prove something and without any form of evidence it is based on nothing.

You see whether you know it or not, life is not that simplistic….I believe people have unalienable rights given to us by God but we live in a world where unfortunately there is evil.
We have to make certain judgements based on morals unfortunately and if we hadn‘t done it the past 200 years we probably wouldn’t even be here right now. People make judgements 100′s of times a day. But now some people want to break down all those morals putting us in grave danger for extinction. You see God is NOT mocked…whatever a man sows, he WILL reap. So some would want to abolish God from society. Now why would people want to erase Christians and squash Christianity?? Christians have done more good for society than any other group on the planet. Really ask yourself why you are so mad about Christianity???
Here is one example of a Christian organization who has helped feed, clothe, and minister to millions of children all over the globe. Can you imagine being a child whose parents died of aids in a 3rd world country with little food or shelter to survive? Well millions and millions are being cared for every day in Jesus name…(I know, really awful ha?)

CARLINPA — can you tell us what this quote refers to?

“It was impossible to look upon the vast numbers of the slain without horror; everywhere lay fragments of human bodies, and the very ground was covered with the blood of the slain. It was not alone the spectacle of headless bodies and mutilated limbs strewn in all directions that roused the horror of all who looked upon them. Still more dreadful was it to gaze upon the victors themselves, dripping with blood from head to foot, an ominous sight which brought terror to all who met them. It is reported that within the Temple enclosure alone about ten thousand infidels perished.”

“If men are so wicked as we now see them with religion what would they be if without it? – Benjamin Franklin

Communism and tyranny cannot exist when the people have a firm belief that their liberty is the gift of God. This is why all tyrannical governments must first remove God from the public arena. When God is taken from the minds of men, evil can truly flourish. Every time there has been a push for Communism or Socialism in the world there has been an equivalent push for religion to be suppressed. Make no mistake about it………..Atheism and Liberty mix as well as oil and water. Atheism has it’s place in a country that values freedom and liberty. However, a country that values atheism will loose both liberty and freedom in the end.

Here’s some stuff for you … freedom is the right to do what is right, and true freedom is found in Christ. The further we get from Him (sinful) the more the government will need/does pass laws to “maintain” order. I know this truth does not suit you’re beliefs; it doesn’t suit mine either for that matter … it is simply what happens and IS happening. The more we want freedom from Christ, the more bound up we become. So, the “idea” of America cannot exist without God at the helm, and our founding fathers attest to this by their own statements

Not true. Separating the church from the state is the goal every time in every court case. The reason that Atheists win in court is because they are right on the constitution. The courts cannot rule any other way than they have been, and the reasons have been very eloquently explained on these forums. Refusing to understand is going to leave many people who read these forums very upset in the coming years as the courts continue to uphold the constitution.

Arnaud-Amaury, the Abbot of Citeaux, as “Neca eos omnes. Deus suos agnoscet.” (”Kill them all. God will know his own.” ) So the Crusaders followed his advice and killed everybody they could find in Beziers, including the “good Catholics”.

‘and taxpayers don’t pay for abortions. it’s against the law.’

A blatant lie, and I quote…”Nothing in federal law prohibits individual states from using their own tax dollars to pay for elective abortions or to pay into health plans that cover elective abortions. Currently, 17 states pay for elective abortions.”

“continue their campaign for ideological dominance and equality”

dominance and equality? which is it.

look, i think all we are looking for is a level playing field. as currently configured, Atheists have no voice to counter the Religious fanaticism that is prevalent in today’s US. this is a good thing and i for one will whole heartedly support the Secular Coalition for America. secularism should be the default position for a government that represents people of a multitude of religious faiths.

My guess is that equality means in general, such as equal justice, or the equality that would be obtained when the force of government is no longer giving preference to one religion. Once that equality is obtained, there can be an ideological dominance simply through rational discussion.

What are you talking about? Atheist do not believe in God, therefore do not worship a deity. Atheism means “without theist” which means disbelief in God. Atheist do not believe in Baal anymore than they believe in Jesus or Thor.

Following up on the question to you by chameleonx about Atheists not believing in Baal…. the BIBLE is quite clear that we are either “for GOD” or “against GOD”. There is no “middle ground” (remember HE said HE would rather that we be hot or cold than lukewarm, for if we are lukewarm, HE WILL vomit us out of HIS mouth).

CASSANDRA and KICKAGRANDMA — Ba’al is not the name of a god. It is an ancient Semitic word for “Lord,” used for deities and mortal-rulers alike. The ancient Israelites used the word “Ba’al” in referring to the god of the Bible. So you two are, in fact, Ba’al worshipers.

Anonymouse: I believe that. That is what the bible says:

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”.
      Ephesians 6:12

There is good and evil here in this world. Have you not read the news? What do you think of a man who eats another alive mans face off and growls with his bloody face?
What do you think of babies being burned and ripped out of their mothers womb day in and day out?
I could go on of course….

Yes there is a heavenly “realm” and there are dark forces all around us…if you are not for God, you’re against him. Whether you know it or not, you are being used. Have you ever had a loved one die? Where are they now? Did they cease to exsist? You go ahead and believe that if you want and I will fight to the death for you to have a right to your belief. But why can’t we have our belief??
Okay, are you ready? Be totally HONEST here…It’s because you want to continue in your sin without anyone saying it is sin, right? If you are honest, you know Im right. Isn’t it funny how the bible is over 2000 years old and the problems are the same today: sin, rebellion, and men wanting all the power and glory..on and on it goes..

Girlnurse, you are superstitious and delusional. Bad things will always happen. That proves nothing, especially that evil spirits exist. You’re sounding more and more ridiculous. You must have been brought up by some real nutters. I don‘t believe in the supernatural because science doesn’t support the nonsense written by ancient ignorant men who thought spirits made their food go bad and the earth was flat. That’s all the reason anyone needs to disregard religion and the supernatural. Your paranoid theories are wrong. You’re a very disturbed person. Get some medical attention before you hurt someone.

Organization should be encouraged for all of these fringe groups like the occupiers, the anarchists, the communists, and the jihadists to make identification, isolation, internment and if necessary executioin much easier. Nice to have them all on videotape for future use!
